Remembering the Future is a solo exhibition by Mariam Tariq that highlights the impact of climate change and natural degradation by painting a future dystopian experience. In a world where mankind has managed to send the environment into ruin, where carbon footprint takes a distant future. A new reality awaits where the plants of the earth are a relic of the past, where the memory of blooming spring becomes a fantasy. Disturbing the balance of the human condition and its relationship to nature we are set on a path into a void where we lose that which matters most. Only then that the beautiful world we once knew and took for granted, lives on in nothing but faint memories.

The experience creates a future dystopia immersing the observer in a world propelled into exaggeration, amplifying the current status quo into a dismal yet familiar place. It aims to highlight the consequences of climate change by raising awareness about the true impact of environmental degradation. The work interacts with the observer through creating a portal to another realm where we can glimpse into a future memory.

The room transports the observer into a desolate world taking them on a tour through a life cycle. The life cycle of plants represents nature’s aging process. The space simulates an accelerated aging process exaggerating the current status quo. Through the artworks the stepwise motion of the cyclical growth cycle of plants is displayed in harmony with technology. The contrast between the organic and inorganic creates a synergy that fuses together to form a biotech. The biotech is a biome that combines technology and nature, in a future where they are indivisible. The observer will be able to witness what the future holds through the exhibition raising their awareness of pertinent topics on global warming. The exhibition is a multi sensory experience where visual and auditory elements are present through an intricate maze of Audio Visual instruments that convey the story telling aspect of the project. By combining 3d printed sculptures, LED lights and tubes, Fiber Optic Controlled lights, Recyclable Polystyrene production with metal support, organic material, LED screens, projections, Sound System, and interactive sensors the biotech presents its sections and parts revealing each stage of the hand the future in the present moment.

the College of Architecture and Design - Program of Visual and Digital Production. The birth of her own print; “The Golden Ratio” in 2020 kicked started her “lighting and 3D mapping” career. Maryam lit up multiple music festivals and shows with her use of technology, and with her personal touch, has collaborated with several DJs and Producers bringing their vision to life while sharing her energy with the audience.
