FLOOR FINISHES CERAMIC MARBLE CONCRETE


FLOOR FINISHES DEFINITION  Floor finishes is a term to generically describe any finish material applied over a floor structure to provide a walking surface.

CERAMIC TILES

 Ceramic tiles are flat, thin items made of

clay, silica, fluxes, colouring and other raw materials.

 Generally used to pave the floors, wall

and façade covering.

 Glazed and unglazed tiles.  Homogeneous and non homogeneous

tiles.

Advantages:  Variety of colours, tones and textures  Inexpensive  Solid surface-high aesthetic value and practical  Low maintenance  Durable  Hygienic


CERAMIC TILES

Disadvantages:  Difficult and delicate to install  Need skilled workers  Hard and cold underfoot

Application:  Living  Kitchen  Bathroom  Balconies  Terrace


 Marble is limestone which was

formed under pressure.

 Natural stone widely used in

homes and structures.

 Marble cut into tile sizes twelve

(12) inches squares or less. Several types of finishes are made, polished, honed, split faced, etc.

 Imported mostly from China, Spain

and Italy

Advantages:  Although expensive, marble is functional and durable  Aesthetic elegance  Available in wide choice of designs, patterns and colours


MARBLE

Disadvantages:  Need proper care  Need skilled workers  High maintenance  Expensive Application:  Entrance foyer  Living/Dining  Bathroom  Counter top  Staircase  Wall finishes


CONCRETE (coloured concrete)

 proven for its strength, durability, and

cost effectiveness for a variety of applications including floors, walkways, patios and driveways.

 For interior and exterior floor

surfaces.

 An alternative to other finishes.  Decorative concrete surfaces include

coloured concrete, chemical staining, concrete stamping , etc

Advantages:  Durable  Affordable/viable  Practical  Low maintenance  Versatile


CONCRETE (chemical staining)

Disadvantages:  Hard and cold underfoot  Requires professional installation  Needs regular cleaning and re-sealing  Conducts heat, cold and sound Application:  Patios  Driveways  Porches and Entries  Pool decks  Stairs and Steps


CONCRETE (stamped concrete)


CONCRETE (stamped concrete)  Concrete that is patterned

or textured to resemble brick, slate, stone and various other patterns and textures. It requires pouring of concrete into an allotted space and then stamping down a design or pattern before the concrete cures. 

Advantages:  Durable  Affordable/viable – easiest method to achieve complex and intricate designs  Practical  Low maintenance  Versatile - allows to replicate the look of other expansive materials Disadvantages:  Prone to scratching and discoloration  Concrete surface can easily cracks  Uneven colours  Need skilled workers Application:  Patios  Driveways  Pool decks  Interior flooring
