RAMPS
Definition • A sloping floor, walkway or roadway connecting two levels. • Provides a smooth transition for the access of cars, pedestrians and disabled people.
Requirements SLOPE RATIO Vehicles – Ratio 1:7 Pedestrians – Ratio 1:10 Disabled – Ratio 1:12 LANDINGS - Landing shall be at least as wide as ramp leading to it - landing length shall be minimum of 1500 mm clear - To be provided at top and bottom of each ramp and at changes in direction - if ramps change direction at landings, minimum landing size shall be 1500 x 1500 mm.
Requirements
WIDTH OF RAMP - Width of ramp shall not be less than width of corridors - Minimum clear width between handrails, if provided is 915 mm SURFACE -Ramp surface should be stable and slip resistant HANDRAILS - If ramp run has arise greater than 150mm or a horizontal projection greater than 1800 mm, shall have handrails on both sides - Handrails requirements are the same as for staircases - Handrails must be 860 to 960 mm above ramp surface
