Double Exposure COMPOSITION
Photographic manipulation
BRING IT ON! What you need to do is take two photos to combine in Photoshop; and what you’ll end up with is a double exposure.Mr. Byers will provide you with tutorials on how to combine your images. The tutorials will be posted to the Bert Church Media Arts YouTube channel, and you can watch those anytime anywhere and see how the double exposure works. When you take photos for this assignment, think about what you’re combining. Will you use the same subject? Or different subjects? If you’re combining the same subject, are you going to be choosing the same background? The same lighting conditions? The same angle or focal length? Take all of these things into consideration before you come up with your final project. You may take and combine as many photos as you like, however; you may only submit one final photograph for grading. You will be graded on: Composition, Clarity, Exposure, Subject choice, Use of Photoshop tools and your participation in the workshop critique.

USING LIGHT AS YOUR SUBJECT
For this assignment you’re going to be using light as the source of your inspiration for your compositions. The assignment is Shadows, so, you will need to take photos of shadows. That sounds pretty easy but we want them to be interesting and compelling. Take some time to research this, look at other examples, flickr is a good start point. For example: http://blog.flickr.net/en/2013/01/17/in-theshadows/ Your compositions may be colour or Black and White. Again, you may take as many photos as you like for the critique. However, you may only submit one final photograph for grading. You will be graded on: Composition, Clarity, Exposure, Subject choice and your participation in the workshop critique.

Day for Night BURN AND DODGE
Changing the time of day
Daylight Savings For this assignment you’re going to take a daytime photo, and it can be of anything that you like. Then we’re going to turn into a nighttime photo. So we’re going manipulate some the elements to darken it up and to give the impression that it is actually taken at night. My suggestion for this assignment is to keep it simple, take a pretty clear composition of something outside. Clouds definitely help with this assignment, so if you can have it on a day with partial cloud cover that will work well. The video tutorials will walk you through the process of creating this project. You may take and combine as many photos as you like, however; you may only submit one final photograph for grading. You will be graded on: Composition, Clarity, Exposure, Subject choice, Use of Photoshop tools and your participation in the workshop critique.

You may take and use as many photos as you like, however; you may only submit one final photograph for grading. You will be graded on: Composition, Clarity, Exposure, Subject choice, Use of Photoshop tools and your participation in the workshop critique.
