FLOWS AND COMMUTER CONTEXT

INTERIOR: MAIN LOUNGE SITE PLAN 1:400

VOLUME ANALYSIS

TRANSPARENCY AND FUNCTIONALITY IS FACILITATING TRANSPORT IN A NEW AND INNOVATIVE WAY AND THE ACTIVITY CENTER SHOWS OFF THE BEST THE CITY HAS TO OFFER. THE BUILDING IS BASED ON A VISIBLE WOODEN STRUCTURE COMBINED WITH AUTOMATIC SHADING IN THE FACADE.

UNDERGROUND

MOVEMENT IS PLAYING A CENTRAL ROLE ON THE SITE AS WELL AS IN THE STATION CONCEPT.

URBAN CONTEXT

For the transfering long distance commuter and the local citizens, finding your connecting tram or bus is easy.

The circulation of flows remains as they are today apart from new connections with the mezzanine plan.

A horizontal volume would allow several access locations around the site.

BUILDING CONCEPT

TARGET USERS The visiting family

A vertical volume on the site would complicate communcation and accessibility.

To allow access from the corner, the volume is adapted

2

The footprint of the building is projected to the plan of the site

6

The shape is softened to further simplify access

3

The footprint is inverted creating a sheltered space

7

Interior function volumes are allowed to penetrate the roof

4

A single story volume fills the new footprint

8

The important connection to the mezzanine is emphasized by a large gesture

benfits from the new station and city showroom by: being presented on arrival with what Göteborg has to offer.

finding their way easily from the platform to their next transportation.

an easy and safe way of making the transition to a more carbon neutral life.

The upper floor houses a space dedicated to the göteborg show room, which can exhibit temporary installations, with the main goal to inform the citizens of Göteborg and its tourists whats going on in the city. Universeum gets a permanent installation, a fish tank, that creates a border between the restroom and the main lounge.

The center of the lounge can be reached from all directions and is well connected to the exterior staircase, a symbol for the integration with the underground levels. The traffic control room is visually connected to the interior and exterior.
