Established in Denmark back in 2003, the company was originally called NOR-LEG and was led by the Skifter family.

In 2019, they sold the majority share to an investor group who had a background in the play equipment industry. The company was renamed to NORNA PLAYGROUNDS.

Why do we use Robinia?

Robinia wood has a number of unique properties. Robinia posts from NORNA PLAYGROUNDS consist only of core wood, which is the innermost part of the trunk.

Robina wood is the preferred material because it:

• Lasts a lifetime

• Is resistant to rot

• Has a low CO2 footprint – produced in plantations

• Ranks high on pressure strength

• Has a high resistance to ‘crushing’ pressure

• Has a natural look

Did you know?

A natural Robinia tree has its own natural defence which guards against rot.

This means that toxic treatment can be avoided.

Built to last

Many types of wood have a limited lifetime upon contact with soil.

This is where Robinia wood is different, it has a lifetime of up to 32 years upon contact with soil.

Steel feet on all our ARC range

This range comes with steel feet, giving you a product that is long lasting.

The steel feet holds the wood above the ground and assembles the playground equipment together as a whole.

• Protects from rotting on contact with the ground.

• Prevents the wood from getting damaged by grass cutting machines.

Two materials can do more together

Steel and Robinia wood are both highstrength materials that can last a lifetime.

The different properties of the two materials make them an ideal combination in a single structure while making it aesthetically pleasing. It will sit perfectly in an urban or natural play setting.

The handcrafted natural Robinia wood together with the grey stainless steel, results in a rustic modern industrial style that is appealing to architects and landscape designers.

NORNA PLAYGROUNDS spent several years developing the SMART ROBINIA® pre-drilled system.

The only company on the market that has a unique modular pre-drilled system for ROBINIA® wood.

The SMART ROBINIA® system:

• Has all holes pre-drilled and brackets fitted - ensures correct and secure mounting every time.

• Has every post marked for easy identification - minimises the time required to handle the equipment during installation.

• SMART ROBINIA + Steel feet = easy replacement without going into the ground. Also allows for easy replacement of ropes.

• New pre-drilled posts can be delivered in 4 weeks.

The origins of NORNA ARC

NORNA PLAYGROUNDS entered into a partnership with architect John Hansen, to develop a completely new series of playground equipment.

After several years spent designing and developing the series, the NORNA ARC range was born. The vision behind NORNA ARC playground equipment was:

• To have a simple design that is elegant and strong

• To be easy to install onto the surface

• To create a detailed design aimed at providing many play values and varying levels of challenge

• To incorporate many entry points so that it can be used by children of varying ages
