A Celebration of Philanthropy: A Message from the Chair
It was with immense pride that I joined fellow benefactors, scholars and board members for the Haileybury Foundation’s inaugural ‘Thank You’ event, a night dedicated to celebrating the generosity that is transforming Haileybury.
Held in our stunning new Langford pavilion, the event brought together those whose support is making a profound impact on our School and its students.
As I stood before the crowd, I could not help but reflect on how far we have come since the Foundation’s establishment in 2010. Our goal was simple but ambitious: to provide scholarships and enhance Haileybury’s financial future. This evening was more than just a milestone for the Foundation - it was a chance for us to connect directly with the students who have benefitted from the generosity of our community. For us, as volunteer Foundation board members, this event was a true “payday,” a moment to witness firsthand the bright futures we are helping to shape.
Philanthropy, as I shared in my remarks, is deeply personal. Supporting education is an investment in the long term and the joy of seeing these young scholars filled with enthusiasm was an early reward for everyone who has contributed to Haileybury’s mission. We are building on the strong foundations of Haileybury’s rich history, ensuring that philanthropy becomes a central part of our future.
The work of the Haileybury Foundation is vital for our School. While Haileybury
has long been a leader in education, the lack of an endowment from its origins as a family-owned institution means that the Foundation’s role is critical. Through prudent investment and a focus on helping the most deserving students, we are ensuring that Haileybury continues to thrive for generations to come.
The evening was not only about celebrating what we have collectively accomplished - it was a launch pad for our future success. Having laid the groundwork, the next decade promises to be even more transformative. Together, with the continued support of the Haileybury community, we believe the best is yet to come.
This inaugural ‘Thank You’ event marked the beginning of an exciting journey, and I look forward to all we will achieve together in the years ahead.

The Impact of Including Haileybury in Your Will
Planning for the future is a responsibility we all share, and part of that planning often involves creating a Will. While many people naturally consider their family and loved ones in their estate planning, a few special Haileyburians think about the lasting impact they can make by including their School in their Will. By designating a portion of your estate to Haileybury, you can create a lasting legacy that supports education for generations to come. This is a powerful opportunity.
Honouring Your Legacy
Including Haileybury in your Will is a powerful way to honour your legacy. Whether you are an Old Haileyburian who wants to give back to the institution that shaped your life, or a member of the Haileybury Society – staff and parents –who recognises the value of education, your bequest can reflect your values and priorities. It’s a meaningful way to leave a mark on the world and ensure that your passion for education lives on. Haileybury is proud to acknowledge such contributions through named scholarships, plaques, or other forms of recognition, providing a lasting tribute to your generosity.
Tax Benefits
In addition to the emotional and societal benefits, there are also potential financial advantages to including a school in your Will. Charitable bequests are typically exempt from estate taxes, which means that the full amount of your donation can go directly to the School. This can also reduce the overall tax burden on your estate, potentially increasing the amount left to other beneficiaries. It’s advisable to consult with a financial advisor or estate
planner to understand the specific tax benefits that apply to your situation.
A Simple Process
Including Haileybury in your Will is a straightforward process. It can be done by specifying a particular amount, a percentage of your estate, or even a specific asset, such as property or stocks. Haileybury has dedicated staff who can assist with the process, ensuring that your gift is used in a way that aligns with your intentions.
If you have already made a Will, adding a bequest to the School is simple. Your solicitor can prepare a codicil form, or you can obtain one from the Haileybury Foundation office. If you have not yet made a Will, your legal adviser can assist.
