MESSAGE It is with great pride and joy that I convey my heartfelt and warmest greetings to all members BATCH and officers of the BNHS Batch 2004 on the occasion of their first ten years Grand Reunion.
‘04 PAMUROKAY
It's been ten years! Great excitement is vividly etched on your faces, raring to come home as a manifestation to express sincere service, unfading love and loyalty to your dear Alma Mater. The homecoming will be a wonderful opportunity to get together after so many years. This is a chance for you to share some fun memories and get a glimpse of each other, as how you look now and what you turned out to be after 10 years. The joy of high school reunion lay in the significance and emotional impact of the reminiscences behind every event brought to the fore. I already see in your mind’s eye the shrieks of excitement, embraces and kisses, laughter and tears will fill every meeting of friends and classmates of long ago.

MESSAGE
BATCH It is with great pleasure that I extend my warmest greetings to the officers and members of
‘04 PAMUROKAY
the BNHS Class 2004 on the occasion of their 10th year homecoming.
After your laborious toils of college education, some of you may already have landed a highpaying job, others opted to become young entrepreneurs, some may have started family of their own and some still others are already working abroad. Ten years had passed and now you will be gearing up for your grand reunion. It was so much gratifying and full of excitement to see your former classmates and friends over the years--some still easily recognizable, others bearing the strains of time with shining pates and wrinkled brows. The old warmth, smiles and friendliness were still there deeply etched on each one.
BATCH
‘04 PAMUROKAY
As you visit your Alma Mater, please remember to look back at your former mentors who served as your light and inspiration in school. The teachers who painstakingly taught you and guide you hope to endure life’s battles and challenges. Good luck and I look forward to a successful and productive class homecoming.

BATCH Mabuhay Batch 2004!
‘04 PAMUROKAY
It's hard to believe that it has been ten years since our graduation from Banton National High School. Our years at BNHS were indeed a special period in our lives, which we will always remember and cherish. Along the way, we established friendships and developed relationships, which in some instances, has lasted for a lifetime. We all can appreciate the value of our youthful experience and the importance of education received from our alma mater.
BATCH Time flies, so much have changed. Our looks, our receding hairlines, our waist-lines, our addresses.
‘04 PAMUROKAY
Our reunion is one of those events in which we could bring each other up to date on what was happened since we went our separate ways after graduation. It’s kind of a milestone for a lot of us, a checkpoint of sorts to see where we are in our lives compared to where we thought we’d be. Maybe some have been wondering things like, where has everyone lived? What have they been doing with their lives? What do they look like? Who are they with? It is a great opportunity to get answers to many of these questions as to what happened in the last ten years. To briefly share on few things, some members of our class have already been married for the last ten years and still others are keeping a hopeful eye for their partners. Some of our batchmate have as many as three kids while others still waiting for the blessings. Amongst us are God's servant, employee, teacher, nurse, engineer, accountant, seaman, professor and entrepreneur. So as a class, we should all be very proud.
BATCH
‘04 PAMUROKAY
As you can see we’ve done pretty well for ourselves in the last decade. You know ten years ago when I thought about our high school reunion, I wondered how my life would compare with the rest of the class most especially as president of Batch 2004. When I left my home country, I realized that it doesn’t really matter. Comparing ourselves to each other is at most an exercise in futility. I mean, how can you really measure success or happiness? There is no single correct path to follow, but there certainly are many to choose from. Maybe you made millions, maybe you just made good friends or maybe you set sail for the other side of the world. I guess what I’m getting at is that no matter where you’ve gone or what you’ve done, my hope is that each of you have lived your life in your own way, and that over the past ten years, living that life makes you feel happy and successful.

I couldn’t refuse to write this article about him. Most of my batch mates were requesting to allot a portion in this souvenir to pay tribute to him. Though he passed away early, we were happy for the good and unforgettable memories he left with us.

His name is Jaypee Familara, but he was best known for his nickname “Ace King”. He is the eldest son of Hon. Ricardo Familara and Marychelle Familara. He spent his grade school at Libtong Elementary School where he became my classmate and a good friend. I remember him most in his spectacular ability in sports especially in baseball. He had been to Cavite, Palawan, Mindoro and made it to the STRAA Meet because of his dexterity in the said sports. I was one of the spectators who had been yelling with glee as we watch him hit the ball and made it to the homebase. Like Pacquiao’s fight, Jaypee’s team is a game you shouldn’t miss to watch. According to his former coach, he was not just quick but he was also clever with cunning techniques to confuse the opponents.

When we were in high school, things had changed. We were not classmates anymore. We were not small kids. We were already teenagers. We seldom talked and we shyly smiled at each other when we met in school or in any other places. During “baylehan”, a dance party organized in school and barangay fiestas, I was one of the girls who felt “kilig” tickled pink when he picked me up to dance. While during intramurals, I was also one of his loudest cheerers.

I found out that he was not just a star player but also a kind and obedient child. He was helping his father in their bread business. One Friday afternoon, we were walking back home from Poblacion, he stopped before us to give us several “balot” of bread. He was about to deliver those breads to various stores. He said, “Meryenda anay kamo, kapilay et baktas.” And he immediately left in a hurry. My friends and I were very much delighted that we couldn’t forget it.
He was a true friend to his peer group called “Weird”. A proof that he was greatly missed is their unity to gather together during special holidays or Holy Week as they visit his family in Sibay and his tomb in the cemetery. Until now, this became their list of itineraries every time they went home. Twenty days after graduation, everybody was shocked to hear the bad news. He died in a motor BATCH

accident last April 26, 2004. Batch mates and friends grieved for his loss. However, his spirit reunited the batch 2004. “Kings Cuatro”, a title that has been branding us originated from his nickname. “Ace King” was truly loved and missed by all.

Life of Being an OFW (KSA)
‘04 PAMUROKAY By: Happy Faigao Fiecas
Oh really!! He's working abroad? “ADO PA SIDA NAK ASA ABROAD”. --Everybody's expressions are like this when they hear and find out that their classmate, neighbor and friends are working abroad. It seems that if you are working out of our country is so nice but many of us don't know what the real life miles away from home is.
BATCH
‘04 PAMUROKAY
Many Filipinos are dreaming of working abroad. They have different reasons why they choose to work in foreign countries rather than staying in the Philippines. One of those reasons are to help their families and to have a good life. But what is really the truth behind their smiles and their success? Do they have an easy life? Does every OFW meet their goals and dreams? Here are some experiences that I've heard and personally encountered during my two years of stay and work in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Actually, being an OFW is not a piece of cake. Some experience, an easy life and easy job but most suffer a tough life. Many of them experienced hard times not only in physical but also emotional, social and spiritual. Emptiness and homesickness are what every OFW's feel and the hardest feeling to fight for. Stress from the job, financial problems, family problems are the major causes which lead to depression. Physical abuse, verbal abuse, rape are the common tragedy which happens especially in the Middle East. Because of this, some workers especially domestic helpers escape from their employers who are harsh and heartless. Many of our “kababayan's” are also put into jail or sentenced to death even though they are innocent. And some got stock in accommodation areas (housing in embassy) because of a slow process of their documents going back to the Philippines. On that situation some of our” kababayans” suffered from psychological problem and some of them committed suicide to finish their agony......Controlled “Success is not by chance and social life and discrimination of spiritual beliefs are the in every success everyone expeexperiences that I've been encountered for the first few riences pain, loneliness, trials and failures” months. Good attitude, understanding and respecting their beliefs and most of all prayers are my weapons why I gained trust and respect from them. Dedication and hard work help me also to soften their hearts and change their minds about their bad impressions toward Filipinos. Yet, some Arabians and foreigners still have bad impression towards Filipinos especially to women. Adultery and having a second family are the worst comments I've ever heard from a foreign doctor. It breaks my heart but that is the reality...In spite of all this, a lot of Filipinos still work with dignity, gain respect and admirations from their employers. They continue giving success for the family and pride to our country.

MY HIGH SCHOOL JOURNEY
‘04 PAMUROKAY
I never imagined that I would be spending my high school days in my parent’s hometown, Banton, Romblon. It was not even in my wildest dreams because I was fortunately settled in a Manila school where I found my cherished buddies, classmates and persevering teachers who took pains in teaching us despite our shortcomings. Thanks anyway, to my dear “Kuya”, who was the culprit of our “hometown exile.” My first year at Banton National High School (BNHS) was sort of a baptism of fire. On my first day, I was quite hesitant to go to school because I am not familiar to anyone except my neighbours and playmates. I was also pondering what’s in store for me in that school. As I entered the school campus, quivers run down my spine. I felt a mixed feeling of shame and fright as I see everybody staring at me. I can read from their eyes as if they were saying “Sio ara kali?”. Days passed and I still felt unwelcome by some of my classmates and even some students from other sections. Some of them begrudged me, while others made faces at me whenever I see them eye to eye. It was the friendliness of Sheryll, Miafel, eventually of Harold and others who made me feel comfortable in our school, including also those teachers who were congenial enough to approach me just to say “Kilaya nako kag imo mama ag papa nene. Maghali pa ra kita” or “Kasadya dile Nene, maado’y dile ka maiskuweyla. Antihon ey yaki nimo ako”, others said, “Dile yang kita nene, kabali dile”, some even told me “Maghali pa kita kada kung inggwa ka it problema ay aya gi kahuda sa ako”. Some of those teachers were our beloved principal, Mrs. Imelda Fietas and Mrs. Merlina Gabayno, who was my Science teacher. Those words from them made me felt that somehow, I still belong and connected. It gave me hope that time will come, I will be fully recognized and accepted. It also made me realize that Bantoanons are truly sweet and loving. Thanks to my teachers who assured me that my life in BNHS will be one of my memorable experiences.

Organizing candidates and nominees for Student Body Organization (SBO) started. One day, as I was walking towards our canteen, a guy who was a candidate for SBO president asked me, "Nhe, puyde ka baga namong maging muse?”. Honestly, I never knew what he really meant. All I wanted that moment was to end our conversation because I suddenly got shy. So, I just nodded. It was too late for me to realize that I made a wrong response. I should’ve just answered him “Inde ako Manong, sorry po” and besides, it was not really what I wanted to do. Anyway, I luckily won as the campus muse. I never expected that I will be elected because I was new in our school, a total stranger to most of them. I thanked all my "Kapartido" and friends who were so eager and helpful to campaign for me that moment. It was all because of their support and cooperation. This life experience became one of the highlights of my stay as a student in BNHS. I am considering this happening as one of the memorable parts not just because I was elected to be the muse of the said organization, but because I have gained more friends which I had always wished and been longing for as a transferee from the moment I was enrolled. It was after that event when several students started to make close conversations with me. They expressed their appreciation towards me. Some students even told me how much they liked how I sing and dance during the “Meeting De Avance", a gesture which made me a little bit known. Others told me they started liking me because they finally realized that I am kind enough because I always wear a smiling face despite being felt rejected by other students. Though I gained some more friends, there were still students who were just being so rude to me and I don't know their possible reasons for their behaviour knowing that I never had encountered them before. Sometimes, they made me think to go back from where I was fully accepted and loved --- My previous school.

Despite of those bullying and misbehaviour towards me, I still agreed to continue my studies as a sophomore in BNHS as a sign of my gratitude to my parents. It was my parent’s decision that I cannot defy. Besides, I couldn't deny anymore the fact that I have already started to love this place with beautiful beaches where I could swim with my friends anytime. (Inasiling pa ako it kag mga maguyang it kato it “Pakarangoy nene, indi ey ka makilaya it kag imo mama ag papa it kina nak mata yangiy ra kag nagpuputi sa imo”. We always spend our school break in Manila so we could be with our mom. Months passed by and our vacation ended. We need to go back again to Banton to continue our studies. I, as a sophomore while my brother as a junior student.
My life as a sophomore student in BNHS started like I was going to a nether world. I am sorry to say this but this was really what I felt when my name was being called to be part of the Second Year -Star Section. I was completely surprised yet disappointed that time because majority of my haters were on that section. A group of boys acted as if they were born to bully me and make my high school life miserable. Every day they made annoying things and sometimes I felt I can’t just ignore them anymore that pushed me to verbally fight back. One time, it came to me as a big surprise when suddenly by a change of luck, one of them showed respect and concern for me. - It was "Harold" .He was the one who never mistreated me at the campus. Well, he was certainly a good guy, I guess. He gave me the strength to show who really I am and he absolutely became my best friend even until now. I suppose that he was the reason why those haters were somehow apprehended that I deserve to be treated with their kindness since most of them were his friends. I also thank my friend “Miah” for giving me reasons to smile and laugh at times when those bully classmates cannot be contained.
BATCH
Little by little, those haters became more friendly and kinder to me. In fact, someone even asked for my forgiveness. It was from someone whom I never expected nor thought that he will ask for absolution which was so easy for me to accept with grateful heart because believe me or not, I was annoyed back then but I never hated them, especially this guy who took time to confessed the reason of his wrathful acts. He admitted he was wrong and he realized that I wasn’t bad at all. It was then when my life in BNHS became happier as the day passes by. Ultimate haters became my friends. My new found friends were always there to help me in many ways, accompanying me to a leisurely stroll around the town and even gave me a helping hand whenever I see difficulty in performing my assignments and projects. (Mabulinigon talaga ka mga Bantoanon).

Teachers and students recognized and appreciated my participation in several school programs and events. That was when Mr. Liberato was still a mentor in our school. I was always assigned to perform in different school celebrations together with some selected students. We learned to get along well and we had fun together.

In my junior days, I was a bit disappointed because the holding of the Junior-Senior Prom was curtailed by the constant clamour of the PTAs in the exorbitant school fees being asked from the students. For me, it was an event to look forward to, but even if the Junior and Senior Prom was cancelled, I still got to enjoy my first dance in our school’s “Dance Ball” especially when my "crush" asked me to dance with him. Mind you, I felt nervous but then deep inside, I was so “kilig.”.(Pagkabali pa kapag inahator pa pa-pauli, ugaing pag batok rabuno it kag iro it amo kayungot ay nagpapang yinasihas raw kag iba sa ak mga naging mangug-hator. Kahihilak raw nak pay kaguguya gihapon.) Living in Banton is like embracing how to cope up with life in the island. Life in here was mundane and laid back, unlike in the city where we were born and grew up. During my stay in Banton, I never missed the hustle and bustle tempo of living in Manila – its noise, lively evenings, different kinds and types of cars on the streets and even the hanging out on the cool malls. All I missed were my parents, friends and our time together while enjoying sumptuous food in a restaurant. Oh! How I wished Manila is just a stone’s throw away from Banton so we could visit our mom on weekends or vice versa. I may sometimes feel this loneliness when I was bounded to study at BNHS but it does not mean that I did not had a great time.

Truly, our coming to Banton was the commencement of “first things” in our lives. It was the first time that we would be separated from our parents, the first time that we will be staying much longer in Banton, and the first time that we would be with our maternal Lolo and Lola. Luckily enough, we were pampered so much by our grandparents and friends, seeing to it that any sign of loneliness would not hinder us from enjoying their company. It was during my stay in Banton wherein I experienced mountain hiking with my friends and classmates. It was very much distinct from our educational trips in Manila wherein it was confined to city tours and mall tours only. In Banton, we got to appreciate the beauty of nature and the lush green fields of the island. More ‘bingkomer’ and ‘bukado-an’ with “Truth or Consequence” game also spiced up our BNHS life. (Nagkakanda-ayaman kasi minsan kung sio kag mga namumut-an ag ing kukuno-kuno sa mga ka-iskuweyla) .We used to play “hide and seek” too when moonlit sky was so inviting.

When my brother graduated from high school, my mom took us again to Manila after Holy week. It was there that I pondered where I would finish my fourth year. Things have to be considered for the big decision: I don’t want to be away from “Kuya” and mom because I would surely miss them every day. It was after a long searching of myself and prayers that I dogged to stay again in Manila. Then the problem where I should finish my fourth year hindered my mind. Things were different again in fourth year in Caloocan High School – new campus environment, new friends and classmates and new mentors, and we are to abide by the new school’s policies and regulations.

When I transferred back to Manila, a lot of my friends and former classmates from BNHS took time to write letters for me. I was so touched and I felt so special because of their efforts. Truly they missed me that much as what they say on their letters. I missed them too, so I was compelled to write back. Sometimes, I surprisingly received messages and calls from some of them. They would tell me their particular activities for the day and how they wish I was there with them. Sometimes, they would tell me also that they went to Sibay or near seawall just to contact me as they were struggling to catch stable cellphone network signal. Oh! How good it is to reminisce! Those were the sweetest gestures shown to me by some of my batchmates that I will surely treasure forever. It was so priceless.

My life in BNHS caused me to experience pains and disappointments and yet, this life caused me also to live my life to the fullest, taught me to become a better person, helped me to learn Bantoanon's culture and made my High school life more memorable and brilliant. There were times, even after college days that I remember BNHS. And now, ten years had lapsed, I will be seeing them again-- my Batchmates and the BNHS. I may not be in the list of graduates of BNHS 2004 but I considered myself one. The tenacity of my former classmates to adopt me as their co-alumni gave me the inspiration and the desire to look back at my Alma Mater. To all members of Batch 2004, I thank you all for the friendship that you had given me and for making my high school life at BNHS a significant one. One thing I can assure you guys, I will always treasure all the golden memories that we had ------ our friendship, laughter and tears. To our amiable principal, Mrs. Imelda Fietas, and to our dear mentors, thank you for helping us to be what we are now. You equally loved us despite of our imperfections. We owe it a lot from you. Thanks to our parents who tried to make both ends meet just to be able to give us good education. And most of all, I thank our Almighty Father for the guidance , for giving me good friends, for letting me experience the goodness of high school life and for the unconditional love that He has showed to all of us.

Batchmates, may we continue to dream big, and soar high. Don’t be easily discouraged by petty failures and challenges. Always remember that success is the ability to go from one failure to another with no loss of enthusiasm. May our Lord God bless us always through Christ His son.

REUNION SCENE
BATCH To My Alma Mater
‘04 PAMUROKAY Ten years have gone as dreams rebuilt,
A decade arrives at last,
Appears past us like the wind.
The excitement you gave the first day we met,
It’s coming is marked with lines
Afraid of tomorrow, how dreams will be true,
Tattooed on our faces by time.
BATCH
The anguish in mind that once occurred,
Survivors as we are of squalls in life,
‘04 PAMUROKAY
Yet you promised me to be secured.
We splinter into smaller groups. Then each of us recites a litany Of mysteries that go with age.
Seeking wisdom, finding the bright sun, At the corner, under the shades
In the midst of longing away from home,
Of “bangar” tree whose twigs
Hardships in life or catastrophe within,
Dance at the beat of Habagat, Tables stand, heavily loaded
You’re comforting me with a loving embrace,
With good stuff ready to cure
BATCH
In a chant fit for the humble praise.
‘04 PAMUROKAY The pangs of our melancholic hunger.
The murmur of the waves kissing
My dear Alma Mater, root of my dreams,
The shore sounds like our raucous
Disobedience when our teacher ordered us
Truly a temple of righteous beams,
To memorize the lessons and
Foundation of hopes in realms,
some mathematical solutions.
In the mid of town, stands strong and still,
Stinky dusts reverberate
