Located in Caithness, Scotland, the Castle of Mey was the much loved holiday home of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother. She was especially fond of and dedicated to the Castle’s shell garden and its flowers. Halcyon Days have collaborated with The Castle of Mey & Gardens Trust to form delightful, English handmade collections inspired by the Castle and its grounds.

The Shell Garden Floral Collection An abundance of floral features inspired by The Queen Mother’s favourite flowers: roses, pansies, primulas, nasturtiums, and thistles, decorate the English fine bone china pieces within this charming collection.

Shells Collection The collection is inspired by an original mosaic that was presented to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother, by the Gordon family in 1980. The artwork was created using groatie buckies and other shells from the nearby shore (see below) to depict The Queen Mother’s cypher surrounded by shells emulating floral patterns. The collection features the design against a soft pink background.

The Castle of Mey by John Gubbins collection Our own reproduction of this exquisite watercolour, the collection shows the charming Castle painted in an idyllic Spring setting surrounded by elements of the Castle and its grounds, including the favourite flowers of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother. The range includes a 100% silk scarf, a hand-painted enamel box in an edition limited to 101 (both featured on opposite page) and a smaller enamel box (featured above).
