or anyone that chooses some type of print product to be a part of their path, they know what it's like to have "ink in their blood." I was told early in my career that once that ink gets in your blood, it never goes away. I guess that's true. I think it is what we do with that ink that is important. For me, this path started 22 years ago...or did it? Perhaps it started quite a bit earlier and I just chose other directions, only to find my way back to my passion. Back in my high school years, I was on the school newspaper staff, along with being in a couple of journalism classes. I now realize that is where it all started for me. Fast forward years later, too many years, I started Julie Hales, PUBLISHER my career in print. As most of you know, I spent 10 years in the newspaper business working for a local publication. Then, 12 years ago, I decided to make a move...a move that created a completely different love for what I do. The "birth" of Pooler Magazine in 2006 was such an exciting time for me. It gave me an opportunity bring the residents of Pooler, Georgia their very first community magazine. Pooler Magazine was created to feature the wonderful people in our community...to tell the stories of these unique individuals...and to share those stories for all of you to enjoy. We have been able to feature a lot of wonderful people along the way. Nothing makes me happier than to see a person's reaction when they see their face in print for the first time. Like I said, it's what we do with the ink that is important. And, this issue is a very special one for me. It marks our 12 years of bringing you a quality magazine, one where you can read about your neighbors and what’s going on in your home town. Just like any business, I cannot do this alone. I have a wonderful staff that is like my family. There are no words to describe what they mean to me...along with all of our contributing writers and photographers. And, as a family, we will continue do what’s important with the ink…bring you Pooler Magazine for many years to come.

W
hat if you were told you had two or three years to live? Would you be scared, angry or would you be at peace? At 45 years old, Gateway Church senior pastor, Matt Hearn, knows what it feels like to hear those words. This summer he learned that he has a 10 percent chance of surviving the next two to three years. If you have the pleasure of meeting him personally, you’ll immediately notice that Matt, despite his fate, is at peace. He is a motivator, an inspiration and living proof that faith can carry you as far as you will allow it. Something Wasn’t Right Matt, who has always had good health, started suffering painful migraines in July and knew something wasn’t right. At first, doctors thought he had shingles and after additional testing, they discovered a 15-pound tumor in his abdomen. Within a week of doctors finding it, Matt was sent to Piedmont Atlanta Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia, to have it removed. It was a dangerous surgery that doctors in Savannah did not wish to perform. What was first thought to be kidney cancer, turned out to be something much more serious. Matt was diagnosed with spindle cell sarcoma. With more than 50 types of sarcoma, Matt’s type is called synovial, a soft-tissue sarcoma. As one of the rarest forms, only one in three million
people are diagnosed with it. No oncologist in Savannah has ever seen it and Matt was referred to the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida, to see Dr. Steven Attia, the leading authority on sarcomas. “You hear about people dealing with cancer, but when it’s you, it just feels so unreal,” says Matt. “I thought, ‘How can this be happening to me?’ I wept, grieved for myself and then I prayed. I asked God to help me understand what He was doing and what this means for me.” A Faithful Foundation As a pastor, Matt understands what it means to have faith. In 2006, with the help of a devoted staff and remarkable volunteers, he started Gateway. It was a humble beginning for the church and Matt poured all he could into building it up. Services began at the West Chatham YMCA and when attendance outgrew that space, services were moved to Godley Station School. In October 2017, Gateway’s new building opened with enough space to seat 650 people in one service. In large part, it was Matt’s faith that served as an inspiration for the tremendous growth the church has witnessed. It is also his relatable stories and his funny (serious when he needs to be) personality that draws an engaged crowd. Coming back to faith, it’s what Matt is relying on during his time of sickness. If he says it once, he says it 50 times, faith will get him through. Others recognize
his tremendous trust in God, too. “People are encouraged by his faith,” says Sam Martin, executive pastor, Gateway Church. “We see he is going through this really hard time, but his faith hasn’t changed. His consistency has a big impact on those around him and serves as a powerful example for others going through their own battles.” It’s easy to expect people with cancer to feel like it’s the worst possible thing to happen to them, and undoubtedly it is for so many; however, Matt looks at his diagnosis from a different perspective. “People say that I’m going through the worst time of my life, but I’m not,” says Matt. He then jokes and says that was middle school. “Don’t get me wrong, this is really hard, but it’s actually the best time of my life. To see so many people supporting me and saying things to me that they may only say at my funeral and being closer to my friends and family makes this really a blessing.” The support from Matt’s friends and family and the church has truly been remarkable. In late August, the church set up a GoFundMe page to help Matt with the financial burden of treatment and travel. The goal was to raise $8,000. By October, the donations topped more than $17,800. “I’m truly humbled. When it comes to faith, how can I day after day, month after month, receive so many good things from God and abandon my faith when something bad comes,” asks Matt. “God
www.PoolerMagazine.com | November/December 2018 11
has never been so near me. In this season, I sense his presence and I’ve seen him working. God is near the broken-hearted.” Matt says years of practicing faith has prepared him for this moment. He offers advice for others who may be fighting a battle. “Whatever mountain you may be facing, it’s hard to have faith if you didn’t have it when you come up to the mountain. When the wind is at your back and everything is going good you really need to build up your faith that way your heart is prepared,” says Matt. He also recommends borrowing the faith of others when yours isn’t strong enough. “Surround yourself with people who believe and know that God hasn’t forgotten about you.” Time Not Wasted Aside from a strong faith, Matt says God has blessed him with time. When you know when your life may end, Matt says you don’t take the time you do have for granted. “When you’re told you only have two to three years to live, you have a greater awareness of every moment and it’s meaning. You don’t think you can do something another time, you go ahead and do it.” He is doing as much as he can with those he loves, especially his wife Lori and his two children, Emma,15, and Jack, 12. His diagnosis has given him the chance to do something for his family; writing each of them letters related to moments in their lives. “The first one was to my daughter on her 18th birthday. I’ll also write one for her wedding day,” smiles Matt. “Whether I’m living or not, she will have those words. I’m thankful that I’m able to put into words what my family may want to hear from me.” Matt gets choked up when he talks about this. He recalls a recent conversation
he had with his daughter who told him she wanted him to walk her down the aisle. He told her he wanted to, but if that’s not what God has in mind, be thankful for the time we did have together. It’s that attitude that makes you admire Matt. “People ask me why I’m not angry. My response is that I’m so blessed. My life has been extraordinary. God has given me everything I could have wanted or hoped for. I have a beautiful wife and a wonderful family and I get to be the pastor of Gateway,” says Matt. He has also come to understand cancer in his own way. “The only way cancer makes sense is that it’s an opportunity to point people closer to God.” What the Future Holds After learning of his diagnosis, Matt decided to move forward with chemotherapy in hopes of prolonging his life. His first round was in October and he will undergo a total of four rounds. Matt says the treatments are excruciating, both physically and mentally. “When you’re sick, you’re lonely because with chemotherapy, you can’t be around people,” Matt admits. “It’s easy to isolate yourself, but you really have to reach out to people and ask for help.” At Matt’s house, they have plenty of hand sanitizer and face masks for when people do come to visit. The chemotherapy forced Matt to make a very tough decision. He has taken a leave of absence from Gateway at least through January. “This is what I’ve given my whole life for and to not be able to do what you love most is hard,” says Matt. He knows, though, the church will continue to thrive. “Leadership is how the organization functions in your absence and on that score, I feel really good about the people I’ve poured in to. God has led me to put the
12 November/December 2018 | www.PoolerMagazine.com
right people in place.” Matt laughs when he says church attendance has gone up in his absence. His sense of humor hasn’t changed. After Matt completes chemotherapy, the next step will be to participate in a clinical trial. If there’s one thing you learn about Matt it’s that he isn’t ready to give up and he won’t give up. He’s applying for a grant that would afford him the opportunity to travel and attend leadership training next year. When asked about the work he’s done so far, Matt believes he has accomplished all that God has set out for him; however, he feels he has a lot more left to do. “I do believe He can heal in spite of my diagnosis. In Isiah 38, God adds 15 years to Hezekiah’s life.” Matt smiles when he says, “I’m trusting God will give me another 15 years.”

erry Bogus, owner of Jerry A. Bogus Insurance Agency – Country Financial, is a native of Birmingham, AL. He is the proud husband of Garnasia Bogus of 36 years, and together they have four children. Jerry is a confident and incredibly warm man who makes his clients feel instantly welcomed, comfortable, and as if they have been a friend of Jerry’s for many years. He is extremely proud of his beautiful family, and exudes great love, admiration, and respect when speaking about his wife, who like Jerry, is also a retired US Marine. As he explained that his wife was a drill sergeant in the US Marines, he immediately acknowledged how she leads their family with grace, elegance, and a very similar style of dedication and pride. The way to keep Jerry smiling is to speak of their four children - two they raised from birth, and all four raised in unconditional love. Their eldest son, Jerry II, served our country as a US Marine, and served 3 tours of combat duty during the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Their youngest son, Nicholas, is taking his final course to become a Graduate of Morehouse College with a degree in Business Management. Their two newest children further enriched their lives in 2012. Briana (Brii), who is currently serving on active duty with the US Army, and Corey (CJ), who is a senior in High School and will be serving as a US Marine upon graduation. After retiring from the US Marine Corps as a (E-7) Gunnery Sergeant, Jerry struggled to find his new career outside of the service. While applying for a job at a local retail establishment, a patron quickly recognized Jerry’s sharp dress and captivating presence and ended up hiring Jerry before the business owner could even interview him. This man recognized the warmth, talent and incredible potential in Jerry immediately. Thus, launching Jerry’s new career and passion for Insurance in 1999. Jerry’s training and experience in insurance has spanned over 12 Major
Insurance Providers throughout the years. All paths leading him home to Country Financial where he is honored to once again serve his community. “One of the first things that is imbedded in you as a Marine is to take care of your fellow Marine in all ways and matters as in a father or mother raising their children. This profession enables me to continue to protect, serve, and take care of others,” explains Jerry. When you ask Jerry what makes him different from other experts in his field, he jokes, “I’m the only Bogus One!” He continued by expressing his gratitude and appreciation for his team, explaining that they are what separates them from the rest. “We have a professional, knowledgeable, and extremely courteous staff. It’s important for me and my staff to share our knowledge of the insurance industry and allow individuals to make informed decisions concerning their future
and their financial security,” explains Jerry. In addition to serving his neighbors and helping them navigate their insurance needs, Jerry has also served as Chairman of the Port Wentworth Chamber of Commerce for 2 years and is currently serving his 16th year on the Port Wentworth Planning Commission Board. He is a member of the Pooler Lions Club, Kiwanis Club of Pooler, West Chatham Marine Corps League and Chamber of Commerce Memberships with Pooler, Savannah and Urban Chamber of Commerce. POOLER VETERINARY HOSPITAL
Offering Custom, Personal Care For Your Pets
P
ooler Veterinary Hospital is a family-owned veterinary practice managed by husband and wife veterinarians, Dr. Michael Ammermon and Dr. Myra Burnsed Ammermon. They provide wellness, medicine and surgical services to pets in Pooler, Bloomingdale and the Greater Savannah area. Dr. Mike Ammermon became a veterinarian after experiencing the bond families develop with their pets at a very young age and enjoyed having pets throughout his entire life. As he started to consider a career, he developed a strong interest in medicine and surgery. After considering human practice, he came to the conclusion that becoming a Veterinarian seemed to be a more natural path. Dr. Myra Burnsed Ammermon, always knew that she wanted to be a veterinarian. She loves telling everyone that she knew this would be her career around the age of five. Dr. Myra grew up on a small farm in Pembroke, GA, where she was in constant contact with animals of all kinds. Both of her grandfathers, Melvin Speir and Hannie Burnsed, helped to foster this love for animals. They encouraged her to seek a higher education and to attend veterinary school. Pooler Veterinary Hospital was an idea that began one night when Dr. Mike and Dr. Myra knew they wanted to do something different. “Once the idea was born, we rolled with it, but met several obstacles along the way. The first was that we couldn’t find anyone to believe in our idea, so we couldn’t get a business loan,” said Dr. Myra. She continued to explain that the second issue they faced was location, as Pooler Veterinary Hospital ended up being established in Bloomingdale. This, however, became a blessing in disguise, as they used their own money and time to turn a house in Bloomingdale into a veterinary hospital. It was a combined effort with Dr. Mike and his family and friends performing the demolition and remodel, while Dr. Myra handled the interior design. It has since become “home” to them, their staff, clients and patients. Pooler Veterinary Hospital offers
customized care for their patients and clients. “We love to get an involved medical or surgical case that requires us to dig deep, think outside of the box, and come up with a medical or surgical plan to diagnose and treat the patient in our facility,” says Dr. Myra. They offer advanced in-house laboratory equipment for immediate analysis of blood, urine
16 November/December 2018 | www.PoolerMagazine.com
and fecal samples, digital radiology, diagnostic ultrasound, dental equipment with dental radiology, and advanced surgical equipment such as a surgical laser, orthopedic implants and instrumentation. The veterinarians and staff at Pooler Veterinary Hospital are very attentive to each patient and client that comes through their doors, and they provide the
personal care that each desire. “Our theme from the beginning has been our family caring for yours, and I will tell you that that statement courses through my mind each time I work up a case or speak with a client. I often find myself thinking, what would I do if this were Rudy, Coal, Sheba, or Bobo? I use this approach to offer the best advice to my clients and then extend this same care to their pets,” explains Dr. Myra. “Our staff is the very best! Each one is unique and genuine and they each have specific interests,” adds Dr. Myra. “They all have a true love for animals and people which is shown in the way they interact with our clients and patients. Our veterinary technicians, receptionists, and kennel staff are very observant and offer a one on one approach to each animal and person that they meet.” Dr. Myra explained that the veterinary profession, as a whole, has been criticized recently for being uncaring and she said that this could not be further from the truth for any veterinarian. “It takes a special person to do this job. It’s a career that is chosen out of a love for animals, a love for people, and a love for medicine,” says Dr. Myra. She explained that the days can often be stressful, strenuous, or just downright sad. On many occasions, the cases travel home with Dr. Mike and Dr. Myra as they discuss the cases with one another after the kids have gone to bed. Their clients and patients are like family, and they want the very best result for them. “We like to know that we have done our very best at the end of each day,” explains Dr. Myra.
In September 2018, they celebrated five years of business, and because of the overwhelming support from the community, they now need to expand. They have plans underway to break ground on a new facility that will be more functional and will help to better meet the needs of their clients and business. “We love serving the Pooler area because we have the most amazing clients,” remarks Dr. Myra. They see a variety of clients from all areas, including Pooler and Bloomingdale, Savannah, Statesboro, Pembroke, Claxton, Glennville, Midway, Brunswick, Richmond Hill and Beaufort. “Our clients, especially those who have followed us from the beginning, are so thoughtful, respectful, and just truly appreciate the service we offer,” explains Dr. Myra. “They have become friends and family to us.” Patients at Pooler Veterinary Hospital understand that on occasion, they may wait a while before they are seen, but they know it means the team has obviously had to dedicate more time with some patients seen that day and never rush a visit. “We are randomly adorned with doughnuts, lunches, and sweet gifts. Our clients always go above and beyond when we have a need or are collecting donations for a group or charitable event. This area has the very best people and we enjoy serving them,” says Dr. Myra. Pooler Veterinary Hospital supports the local community in a variety of ways. From visiting local schools for career day to tell the children about being a veterinarian, to sponsoring the publication of citizenship books that were distributed throughout elementary schools in the Pooler area. They also sponsor local events and recreation teams, as well as, work with local 4-H clubs to host Rabies Clinics for the community. Most recently, they gathered donations of food, water, and bedding for hurricane Michael victims and
animals in the Florida panhandle. “I would have to say that our favorite community event is Santa Paws,” says Dr. Myra. The Santa Paws event, which began in 2013, is held on the second Saturday of December each year. This year’s event will be held on Saturday, December 8, 2018. During this wonderful event, Pooler Veterinary Hospital hosts a special visit from Santa Claus himself at their hospital, and guests, both pets and children, are able to have their picture taken with Santa Claus. They have refreshments and offer a behind the scenes tour of the hospital. There is no cost for the event. Instead, they simply ask for donations of pet food and bedding that will be distributed to animal shelters and rescue groups in the area. Pooler Veterinary Hospital is located at 608 US-80 in Bloomingdale, GA. You can visit them online at www.PoolerVet.com. ll to make an appointment for your fury family members today at 912-748-0709.

BROOKLYN HOWELLS BROOK 4 ANIMALS

any feel that the heart of an individual is often revealed in the compassion they have for other people and also for animals. That said, Brooklyn Howells is quite a notable and impressive girl. The eleven-year-old Pooler native lives with her mom, Rowena and dad, Henry. Brooklyn or “Brook” is a sixth-grader at Godley Station School and will soon be celebrating her twelfth birthday on November 20th. She is undeniably well-rounded and talented. Actually, Brook is an active member of Girl Scouts of America, FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America), plays the trombone in the school band and has enjoyed playing soccer and basketball over the years. Brook has long had a tender and loving heart for animals, with dogs being her favorite of all. She feels that they deserve as much love and attention that can be given to them. “I love animals. They’re so sweet and cute. My favorite animal is a dog, and that’s what I have,” Brook said. She adores her dog Polish, a sevenyear-old, black and tan German Shepherd. And, as a math and science enthusiast,
the aspiring veterinarian is well on her way. Interestingly enough, when she was only about seven herself, Brook decided to turn her love for animals into something incredibly rewarding and beneficial. Even then, she understood that many dogs are not cared for and supported. Actually, many of them are often mistreated. This is especially true of bigger or older dogs. She wanted to offer a service that would help all dogs in need. Brook, having such an enormous and sincere heart, was determined that she would not sit idly around and do nothing; that was not okay with her. That is when the idea “Brook 4 Animals” was first conceived. “Because I love animals, I really wanted to support them. Big animals don’t get as much love, so I wanted to speak for those animals and help them out,” Brook stated. After enlisting her mom’s assistance, Brook began to gather information and learn how to service her furry friends in the best way possible. She combined all of her resources and began to spread awareness of her initiative. Having a great work ethic, Brook did not mind putting in the work needed to make her dream a success. Actually, she was very excited about it all. She initially began her service
by providing aid to puppies and smaller dogs. Brook often searched out local venues and organizations that cared for deprived animals to determine what they were in most need of. There was no place too big or too small, as Brook’s main goal was to help as many dogs as possible live longer, healthier and happier lives. Brook started off by hosting Puppy Blanket Drives, where she collected new and used blankets, new toys and food for the little guys; some drives were held at school, outside of class hours, and even at a local puppy boutique. It was all a big success. There are many generous donors who also share in Brook’s passion; they, too, appreciate Brook’s heart for such a great cause. Brook is co-hosting the Farm to Table Festival & Bonfire at Ottawa Farm in Bloomingdale on November 17th from 2 p.m.-6 p.m. She is responsible for assisting with the booths and setup along with helping to attain vendors and promote the festival. Parents with children ages 13 and under are encouraged to bring them out to the event, as it is expected to be a boatload of fun for everyone. There will be a variety of “games, southern field day activities, line dancing, music, s’mores, a pizza-
www.PoolerMagazine.com | November/December 2018 19
eating contest and more.” Brook is really looking forward to it all, as a “portion of the ticket proceeds will benefit the vet care for neglected, large animals.” Brook received a scholarship this past summer to go to a “veterinary and agricultural camp at Auburn University.” Brook had already proven to be a model young person with a truly noteworthy character. Much of this was exemplified over the years through her hard work, diligence and determination through her efforts in supporting animal welfare. Even more astounding was Brook’s journey to obtaining the scholarship. At only age eight, Brook expressed genuine interest in finding out about various engaging opportunities, particularly interactive camps, that would coincide with her vision and cause. Though she found several, many were costly and had minimum age requirements, including Auburn, whose minimum age was 11. Brook remained hopeful; she would not be discouraged. Though Brook knew that she had her parents’ complete, unwavering support, she was long-inspired by their words: “Always be willing to invest in yourself.” Over time, she focused on achieving her goal. Even at her young age, she could bake mouth-watering, homemade cupcakes, so she decided to hold bake sales in the community to raise money. Whether outside of Tanger Outlets, Publix, her mom’s workplace or even her own neighborhood, Brook could sometimes be found selling the sweet treats. Brook set her sights on the Auburn University camp opportunity. The tenacious go-getter did earn a partial scholarship but also had her very own earnings to supplement some of the costs of the endeavor. How extraordinary! All of the young attendees at the camp were given valuable information about both animal life and plant life at the weeklong camp; many of the principles and lessons that were discussed are sure to last a lifetime. The kids also had a lot of fun in the process. Brook felt that the experience proved to be a tremendously memorable one. She, too, felt very privileged and grateful to be chosen to attend, and she certainly hopes to attend again in the future. “It was very amazing. We learned a lot of things about animals and plants. I would love to go back,” Brook commented. It is obvious how Brook feels about her cause; however, her genuine concern and tender compassion for ‘man’s best friend’ is absolutely remarkable. Brook is also insightful and knows that none
of her efforts are in vain; she plans to do whatever she can to make an extraordinary difference in the lives of as many dogs and other animals as possible. “I just want to contribute what I can. When I get older and I’m a veterinarian, I want to see that I’ve helped them, and it will be better for the community of veterinarians,” she stated. That said, even in this case, ‘it takes a village’ to come together and make a real difference. Going forward, Brook would like to continue to participate in service events that cater to helping neglected dogs and promoting awareness about the entire situation; she would like to host more of those beneficial events throughout the year. “I would like to do more service projects during the school year; I want to do more for the animals,” she said. Young Brook is pleased to give credit where it is due. She is happy to call

her mom and dad her real mentors, as she is utterly appreciative for both of them. Brook is grateful that they have supported her dreams for as long as she can remember. She is thankful for all of the help and support that they have given her, consistently making her interests their own. With a big smile, Brook stated, “My biggest role models are my mom and dad. They’ve helped me host events; they’ve contributed a lot. They’re the best parents that I could have,” she asserted. In her spare time, Brook enjoys spending time with her family, playing with Polish and participating in all of the extra-curricular activities that she is a part of. Brooklyn Howells shows everyone that a heart of compassion and kindness is priceless and truly goes a long way. The future is bright for this young role model, as she is determined to be the difference that is needed in this world.
Miller's Coins and Currency: Built On A Solid Reputation
M
iller’s Coins and Currency’s owner, Joey Ashley, helped to open over 20 store locations for a company based out of Texas. He was forced to leave the company at the same time he learned that his father had become very ill. It was shortly after his father’s passing when Joey and his wife welcomed their first child into their family. When learning of a coin and currency business that was for sale in Pooler, GA, Joey and his new family sold everything they owned in Tennessee and took a leap of faith. A leap that would prove to be worth its weight in gold! Joey purchased Miller’s Coin and Currency and quickly grew the business with his reputation of paying more than the competition. Today, Miller’s operates in a new location and they plan to expand yet again next year with the addition of Miller’s PQ Guns, a premium gun store.
Miller’s specializes in buying and selling coins, collections, silver and gold jewelry, and sterling flatware. With over 23 years of experience, Joey is an expert in his field. But what sets Joey and Miller’s apart from the rest is their customer service. “I am a firm believer in taking care of people, because I was in their situation at one time too,” explains Joey. " We take care of everyone that comes through our doors, and we guarantee to pay more than anyone else locally.” Joey is proud to be a local business owner in Pooler, saying, “I love how Pooler has maintained that smalltown feel even through the incredible growth over the past several
years!” Miller’s Coin and Currency is located at 502 US 80 W, Pooler, GA. You can visit them online at www.millerscoins.net. You may also reach Joey and his team by calling 912-330-9919.

POOLER CHAMBER OF COMMERCE and Visitor's Bureau
T
he Pooler Chamber of Commerce and Visitor’s Bureau is an organization of community focused leaders whose mission is to promote Pooler as a tourist destination and to promote a positive business environment by supporting economic development through networking, teamwork, and innovative thinking. The organization is dedicated to aggressively marketing Pooler’s assets, maximizing economic impact while providing excellent visitors services. Pam Southard is The Pooler Chamber of Commerce’s Executive Director. Pam and her husband settled in the Pooler area ten years ago after living in Maryland for many years. When looking for a new home that would offer both warmer temperatures and smiling faces, they knew right away that Pooler, GA was the perfect location. It didn’t take Pam very long to get involved in her new community. She started working for the Chamber at a part-time position as an office assistant for the previous executive director. She quickly began taking on more and more responsibilities becoming a fulltime employee with the Chamber, and eventually accepting the position of Executive Director. Since taking the role of Executive Director, Pam has seen incredible growth in Pooler and attributes the growth to the support and encouragement from Pooler City Officials and the Pooler Chamber of Commerce. At one time, Pooler was often marketed as a town close to Historic Savannah, Shopping and Tybee Island. “Now with an endless supply of magnificent restaurants, shopping, and attractions, Pooler has become a destination city itself,” says Pam. “Pooler really does have it all!” The Chamber is focused on supporting businesses, regardless of size. “There are platforms that businesses can use to network their business such as business after hours, lunch and learns, and more,” explains Pam. “Businesses know we are
here to support them, and to help them grow. We assist them with all their needs from finding locations, obtaining permits, and networking, to participating in ribbon cutting ceremonies and helping with promotion of their businesses,” continued Pam. Additional benefits to businesses and members of the Pooler Chamber of Commerce include cost savings for events, member to member discount programs, listing on the Chamber’s websites and social media sites, and access to their complete membership list. Assisting Pam daily at the Pooler Chamber of Commerce is an incredible team that includes Sue Maxwell, Director of Community Relations; Donna Lippens, Coordinator/Member Partnerships; and Susan Eiseman, Office Manager, and Jessica Lockard, Office Assistant. Pam beams with pride as she speaks of her team and their dedication to the Pooler community. “We all work as a team here,” says Pam. “I could not do anything without the incredible women I work with here at the Chamber! They work tirelessly to support our businesses and I am so proud to be a part of such an amazing team!”
Supporting Pam and her staff are The Pooler Chamber of Commerce’s Board of Directors. The board is comprised of a diverse group of highly skilled and experienced professionals working together to improve the business environment in the Pooler area. Board members serve as advisors to local businesses, are focused on member recruitment and retention, assist in the financing of Chamber operations, and attend events. In addition to the Board of Directors, Pam also expressed her sincere gratitude towards the City Pooler officials for the support the Chamber receives from Mayor Mike Lamb, City Manager, Robbie Byrd, city council and staff. “I cannot say enough about our officials and the support they offer the Chamber and our businesses,” explains Pam. WINSTON WRIGHT

T
he boys of fall capture the Friday nights of high school football fans throughout the country as the gridiron gladiators suit up their armor for the battle field. It’s more than just a weekly football game; it becomes religion for a few short months for the spectators and converts into the only air the players breathe. Meet one of Memorial Day’s gladiators and wide receiver, Winston Wright. This high school senior’s passion for football began brewing at an early age. “I just loved to watch it on TV and I used to pretend I was in the NFL in the yard; then when I started playing, I just loved it more,” Winston shared. He began playing at seven years old and has not stopped. The Pooler Recreation Department nurtured his appetite for sports. “I loved the whole Pooler Rec and organization. It’s all family. I created a lot of memories there and my coach Marvin Cooper was a big part of that; he was my coach in basketball and football and we won a lot of championships. I will always love the community because it’s what made me the person I am today,” Winston reminisced. His experience with the recreation department gave Winston a hunger for winning, teamwork and doing his absolute best on and off the field. He continued, “I won a state championship in basketball and football both my last year of 12 and under. It was a good accomplishment for the city of Pooler. We made a big name for ourselves.” Memorial Day School has developed a reputation over the last several years of a fierce competitor on the football field. They have won state titles in 2008- 2009, 2013-15 and 2017 in GISA Class 2A, with Class A state runner-up finishes in 2010 and 2011.They will also have competed for the region championship on November 2, 2018. With a healthy structural beginning in sports, Winston carried his skills onto the Blue Thunder field in full force. He confidently shared he is trained and comfortable playing multiple positions on the field. The skilled offense player is whole heartily invested in doing what it takes to be the superlative team player. “I love to spend my time working out and getting better. Because there’s always someone out there working when you’re not, so I try my best to get the most work as possible,” the competitor commented. Although the physical aspects of football would appear to be the chief force that runs the team, the mentality of the squad is what gives it life. Baltimore Raven’s quarterback and Heisman trophy winner,
Robert Griffin III (RGIII) once said, “Football is football and talent is talent. But the mindset of your team makes all the difference.” Blue Thunder makes the difference. Winston humbly shared, “My coaches and teammates are my family. Football is a team sport so without them, I’m nothing. We just do the little things, like bond with each other; it’s more than football for us.” An incredible team requires a great leader. “It’s been a blessing playing for Coach Michael Thompson. He has taught me a lot on and off the field. He has showed me what it takes to become successful in life. He’s taught me to be respectful, humble, and always remember where you came from,” the wide receiver appreciatively said. Winston chose his football jersey number during his freshman season. Favorite number or setting a huge goal for his not too distant future? “My high school number is number 4. I wanted that number because I set a goal for myself that I had four years to make that number special and I did it,” the athlete
proudly commentated. During his high school football career, Winston had his sight on something bigger than where he was; he wanted a thriving future and recognized football was his pathway. “I’ve went to a lot of camps and I made a name for myself in the recruiting world. And, as I continue to grind and keep God first, I’ve been blessed.” This high school footballer has had a whopping number of opportunities come in his direction. “I have been blessed to have had 40 plus full scholarship offers to continue my football career and education,” he meekly explained. Schools and teams such as Duke University, University of Central Florida, Temple in Philadelphia, Boston College and Kansas State were just a few that sought after the gifted player. But after much consideration, Winston made his decision. “I’m committed to West Virginia University, so after my high school career and graduation, I will be off to continue my athletic career and education. I just loved the atmosphere, you're just not playing for the school there, you are playing for the whole state. When I made my visit, it just
www.PoolerMagazine.com | November/December 2018 27
checked all the boxes in what I was looking for in a school.” He plans to graduate with a degree in business from the West Virginia school. At just seventeen, Winston Wright is on a fast pace to success. This high school senior has an impressive record on the Blue Thunder field and is sure to only expand his skills on the WVU Mountainteer gridiron as well. Just during his last season as a high school player, he has wowed the crowds with his flair; his statistics are off the charts with 15 catches, for 520 yards and 700 rushing yards. Winston is a force to be reckoned with. He works hard and pushes himself past the limits to lock in victory. The sound of triumph rings much sweeter with the support of loved ones, family, also known as Winston’s biggest cheerleaders. “My family is very supportive. I wouldn’t have gotten where I am today without my mom and dad Latrice and Travis Wright.” The sport is his life and his family is first on his heart. “I just love the game! I want to be the best I can be in it. You can always get better and that’s what I want to do. I just want to change my family’s life with doing something I love to do.” “Football is a great deal like life in that it teaches that work, sacrifice, perseverance, competitive drive, selflessness and respect for authority is the price that each and every one of us must pay to achieve any goal that is worthwhile”, Coach Vince Lombardi.

im Marshlick started working for a local crane company when he was only 15 years old. From that moment, Tim’s love for cranes and machinery really took off. H
oward Family Dental is proud to announce it will host the company’s 10th annual Free Day of Dentistry on Friday, November 16, 2018 at the Pooler office located at 91 Brighton Woods Drive. In spirit of the season of giving, over 100 volunteers from Howard Family Dental, Oral & Facial Surgery and Kid’s Dentistree will come together to provide each child or adult with one free service of their choice – a free cleaning, filling or extraction. The event is first come, first serve and is limited to the first 200 people. Over the last few years, the event has grown to include many community partners. New this year, the company has partnered with the St. Joseph's/ Candler Mobile Mammography to provide free mammograms. Those interested in receiving a mammogram are not required to have a primary care doctor. A representative from the Howard Hand in Hand program at St. Joseph’s/Candler will also be present to provide support and information for anyone in need of
the program’s assistance. The Howard Hand in Hand program provides support, education and guidance to children and teens with a family member facing a lifethreatening disease. Returning this year, America’s Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia will provide food for individuals and families that are suffering from food insecurity, and local Walgreen’s pharmacist, Jim Brown, will be onsite to offer free flu shots and blood pressure checks. Strickland’s Funeral Home and Calvary Assembly of God will once again generously donate their parking lots for attendees, and several local restaurants plan to donate food and refreshments for the volunteers. “We intentionally host our Free Day of Dentistry on the Friday before Thanksgiving each year,” said Dr. Julie Howard, a dentist at the Midtown location and co-founder/chair of the Howard Family Dental Charitable Foundation. “It is our way to give thanks and appreciation to our community in partnership with other like minded, local businesses who care about breaking down the barriers many people face when it comes to access to care.” Numbers will be handed out starting at 6:30 a.m. on November 16. The event
will officially kick off at 7 a.m. and wrap up around 4 p.m. Last year, Howard Family Dental Free Dental Day served over 150 people and completed an estimated $55,000 worth of services. HOSPICE SAVANNAH – MUCH MORE THAN END OF LIFE CARE!
W
hen you think about Hospice Savannah you probably think about dying. That’s natural. But it’s also kind of sad. Because Hospice Savannah is really about living, and about providing care to Pooler families long before they ever need to think about the end of life. The Edel Caregiver Institute is a free community resource if you are caring for a family member with a serious illness or disability, whether it’s a slow progression of dementia, a sudden cancer diagnosis or a gradual decline in health because of CHF or pulmonary disease. The Institute’s Tonya Hillis offers family caregiving classes to address and individualize everything from long-term care/financial planning, to hands-on practical patient skills and wellness services. Perhaps the most difficult and frightening diagnosis to deal with is dementia. Tonya helps caregivers explore its probable progression, treatment and prognosis and offers practical coaching and volunteer help. Reach her at 912.629.1331. The Steward Center for Palliative Care helps patients dealing with serious illnesses – again, long before end-of-life hospice care needs to be considered. Dr. Laura Farless and her nurse practitioners work with your personal doctor to help both you and your family cope with making treatment decisions, pain and symptom management. Palliative Care is paid for by Meidcare and private insurance. You can see Dr. Farless in her outpatient clinic at Candler by calling 912.354.8014. Full Circle Grief and Loss bereavement counselors help any child, teen or adult in our community at no charge. If you’d like some help on your grief journey, you can meet privately or in a
support group by calling 912.303.9442. For more information on these programs or on our community’s original hospice please visit HospiceSavannah.org. And don’t’ forget to support the Hospice Savannah Thrift Shoppe in Pooler’s Fortune Plaza at 331 East Highway 80!

Jennifer Taylor-Pack Pooler's Community Library Manager
story by Katrice Williams photos by Shelia Scott

M
ost will agree that “knowledge is power.” That said, why not make sure that all cities, large and small, are filled with public libraries? Interestingly enough, Pooler Library has been a diamond in the rough for a long time now. As it first opened its doors in 1982, it has been faithfully servicing the local community ever since. Pooler Library is part of Live Oak Public Libraries, which is under the leadership of Tom Sloan, Executive Director, along with a regional board of trustees. Live Oak Public Libraries encompass an array of libraries across Georgia, including 12 Chatham County libraries, two Effingham County libraries and two Liberty County libraries. Pooler Library certainly stands firmly behind the Live Oak Public Libraries’ mission to its customers: “to provide excellent, responsive services to enrich people’s lives, support life-long learning, and build and enhance our communities.” Jennifer Taylor-Pack recently assumed the position of Community Library Manager. The Waycross native spent over 17 years in Tallahassee, Florida, where she was the department manager for a central library. Though not long at Pooler Library, Jennifer feels that she has found a second family and has fell in love with the local area. “It’s such a warm, caring environment; they have welcomed me. It’s more of a family. I’m so excited to be here. I just love the community,” she said. Having over 15 years of library experience under her belt, Jennifer is utterly knowledgeable about schoolwide standards, academic demands,
reading initiatives and a myriad of other beneficial information, as she was a high school teacher following her college career. Hence, Jennifer understands the extraordinary benefits of attainable information and resources. “As a child, I always wanted to be a librarian. I always wanted to help people answer questions. I’ve been on both sides of the equation—as a student and as a teacher. Life-long learning is so important; we are always changing, and we are always growing,” Jennifer stated. Jennifer feels privileged to have a “terrific team to serve the community as the face of the library,” able to give each customer a “warm and friendly greeting” and assist them as much as possible. “Whatever each user needs, we try to
do whatever we can to meet those needs. We just try to meet them where they are and get them to where they want to be. We want everyone to receive timely, attentive service whenever they walk in the door,” she added. Beatrice Saba, Director of Library Services, completely agrees with Jennifer. With 23 years of library experience, Beatrice feels that customer service is always non-compromising. Therefore, she strives to “deliver quality library services to the community.” “Customer service is real important; it’s key. We’re achieving and trying to be a ‘Publix’ or a ‘Chick-fil-A’ because we truly believe the community is why we’re here; we’re here to serve the community,” Beatrice said. Live Oak Public Libraries have a new face, as it “became a ‘PINES Library’ this year,” which is “the overall ILS (Integrated Library System)” that is used for library services, including “circulation, check-outs, processing and purchasing materials,” along with other system functions. It is offered through “Georgia Public Library Service, which is very responsive to user needs;” therefore, any problems faced while implementing the PINES System are immediately addressed. “PINES (Public Information Network for Electronic Services) is a Georgia system that allows card holders free access to books and other materials in 300 libraries and affiliated service locations throughout the state. PINES has access to more than 10 million books and materials that can be checked out and returned to any participating library free of charge.” Jennifer sees this as a great benefit. Beatrice, too, feels that the
www.PoolerMagazine.com | November/December 2018 35
system is an enormous improvement. “Not only are patrons able to checkout from our three-county areas, they can get things from Statesboro…they can get things from Athens. The items can be returned at any PINES Library; that, in itself, is a plus for us,” Beatrice mentioned. That said, “the collection has totally increased,” though there has been a limit placed on individual check-outs; this allows for better “control over the collection.” Customers can “navigate the catalog online or through an application,” whether they are at a branch or on the go. Understanding the various changes that the new system implementation would cause, Live Oak Public Libraries forgave all patrons’ fines and fees—a very generous gesture. The team at the Pooler Library knows that a big part of how valuable a library is to the community lies with the services and programs that are provided. In addition to customary library activities including resource check-outs and returns, providing Internet services, printing and copying and a host of other internal services, the library has a calendar filled with notable events each month. “We offer so many services. There is something for everyone when they walk through the door. We want to provide services that library users are interested in—altering programs to meet their needs and desires,” Jennifer said. Actually, during each month, all kids over five-years-old can enjoy LEGO Club every Saturday morning. Additionally, young children can participate in story time each Wednesday morning or even “Cool and Crazy Crafts,” or a “Music and Movement” class later that day. Some customers may be interested in films and
games on Tuesdays or the library’s “Read, Sing and Play” program on Mondays, designed especially with young ones in mind. The tutorial services have also been a big hit. Online tutoring is available in nearly every subject. Individuals can “connect with a live tutor;” assistance is given by qualified individuals with in-depth expertise in the subject matter at hand. Jennifer values the library’s involvement in literacy nights at local schools, where students can see how reading can become tons of fun for everyone. “It’s important that we are in tune with what the schools are looking for. It’s important that they know that we’re here,” she stated. Jennifer understands the importance of outreach activities. She was grateful to recently participate, alongside Live Oak Public Libraries’ Outreach Director Rita Harris, in The Savannah Quill Sweets, Treats & Reads Fall Festival. Jennifer was happy for the opportunity to interact with potential customers and even hand out new library cards to many of them. The Pooler Library is truly serious about customer service and satisfaction. Thus far, this year has been busy and successful. In fact, some 2018 fun facts (and still counting) include approximately: 68,450 customer visits, 132,400 checkedout items, 39,650 reference transactions and 290 programs attended by 9,800 attendees. Regarding the impressive statistics, Jennifer smiled and said, “We’re wellloved.” Looking ahead, Jennifer would love to have a bit more space for customers to enjoy (especially considering Pooler’s phenomenal growth), as the current space
36 November/December 2018 | www.PoolerMagazine.com
does have its challenges at times; limited parking space, too, can be an obstacle, especially during busy times. “It would be nice for us to have a bigger building. Having the support of Chatham County and the City of Pooler would be incredible for that,” she said. Jennifer wants to encourage all customers to feel free to visit the library so that the staff can learn firsthand what their various interests and needs are; hence, the library team will be able to spearhead additional value-added initiatives for the community while incorporating even more desirable services, activities and programs for the public to enjoy. Jennifer Taylor-Pack, alongside the entire Pooler Library Team, is determined to keep community first. “Come in and tell us what you want… what you want more of…what you want to see different. We’re definitely open to that. This is your library, so come and enjoy it.”

Jimmy John's: Gourmet Sandwiches Made With Top Quality Products
immy John’s Gourmet Sandwiches in Pooler, GA is owned by Timothy Sutton. Tim relocated from Michigan to the Lowcountry to open his own location for Jimmy John’s. He had spent several months searching for the perfect location before settling on Pooler, GA. Pooler has become the perfect fit for Tim. “I'm a northerner, and as a northerner, was raised to be efficient, protect myself and not to worry about the pleasantries as they simply get in the way. Pooler and the Lowcountry communities have changed my behavior for the better,” explains Tim. “I have learned and am proud to say Yes Ma’am and Yes Sir!” Tim moved back to Michigan after marrying his beautiful wife, Becky, but is still an active part of the Pooler community. He wanted to express his appreciation of the store’s General Manager, Alyssa Brinson. The ability to travel between Michigan and Pooler is thanks to the dedication and hard work of Alyssa, who manages the daily operations of their Pooler location. Alyssa graduated from Effingham County High School in 2017 and started working for Tim at Jimmy John’s as a member of the Inshop Crew, responsible for greeting customers and making top quality sandwiches. Alyssa then became a driver for the team at the age of 18 and quickly worked her way up to General Manager. Since taking over the role of General Manager, she has produced corporate audit scores high enough to allow them to open more Jimmy John’s stores. “She is producing higher numbers and scores than when I was the General Manager,” says Tim with great pride and
enthusiasm. “I have so much confidence in her that I have offered her Ownership as the Managing Partner.” Tim explained what he loves most about Jimmy John’s is that those who work hard go far with the company. “If you give 100%, you will be rewarded for your effort, regardless of where you are from, how you got here, race, wealth, education, religion,” explains Tim. “I believe my job as an Owner is to provide opportunity for ANYBODY that wants it.” He went on to explain that Jimmy John’s has top quality products, delicious gourmet sandwiches, and, of course is known for their speed and consistency, but what makes them truly unique is their hard work and dedication to quality. “We bust our butts. Always. Period,” says Tim. Tim, Alyssa, and the entire Jimmy John’s Pooler Team believe in giving back to the Pooler community. Tim, having served in the US Marine Corps himself, offers a 10% discount to all active and retired military personnel at his Jimmy
John’s location as his way of saying thank you for serving. In addition, they also offer a 10% discount to all first responders and a 5% discount to all teachers. “My wife, who is a teacher, asked me if I offer discounts to teachers. So, we now offer a discount to our hard-working teachers,” explains Tim. Last year they gave away over $17,000.00 in free food, discounts, and promotion material to the Pooler community and surrounding areas and are tracking to do the same in 2018. “We are a huge supporter of the Pooler Recreation Department through donations to the sports teams,” says Tim. Jimmy John’s of Pooler was a major sponsor of Pooler’s Fall Festival this year where they handed out a large supply of sandwich samples. “We feel honored to be a part of such an amazing community,” says Tim. Stop by their Jimmy John’s location in Pooler, GA at 155 Traders Way to visit Tim, Alyssa and their entire team of smiling faces.

RINCON CHEVROLET: Thinkin' Rincon
T
hinkin’ Rincon” is more than a motto, it means Rincon Chevrolet is thinking about the well-being of the community. So, when customers buy a vehicle it benefits many community initiatives supported by Rincon. According to Jesse Greathouse, executive manager, giving back to the community is a priority. “We consider Rincon Chevrolet first and foremost a business that is here to serve the residents of Effingham County,” he said. “If there is a project or organization that needs support in our area, we are all in,” added Mr. Greathouse.
“IF THERE IS A PROJECT OR ORGANIZATION THAT NEEDS SUPPORT IN OUR AREA, WE ARE ALL IN.” – Jesse Greathouse, Executive Manager Of Rincon Chevrolet
This philosophy is why Rincon Chevrolet created their “Partners Program.” This is an initiative dedicated to supporting various community charities and organizations.
“Simply put, we support what is important to our customers. When you buy a new vehicle from us, we take the approach that you have invested in our business, so to reinvest with you, we will contribute $150.00 back to any civic, religious, academic or youth organization of your choice,” said Mr. Greathouse. This includes supporting Breast Cancer Awareness Month with their “Join the Fight” campaign. Throughout October, Rincon Chevrolet donated a portion of every sale to Susan G. Komen Foundation to help support patients and survivors. Rincon Chevrolet has also taken a fun approach to supporting local school athletics. They donated $3 to the Athletic Department for every point scored by the high school football teams of South Effingham, Effingham County and New
Hampstead. In addition, every time a fan buys a new Chevrolet, Rincon will donate $150 to the department. Since the inception of their “Partners Program,” Rincon Chevrolet has contributed thousands of dollars to benefit high schools, a variety of civic organizations and youth organizations. These include the Cub Scouts and their Pinewood Derby, gymnastic clubs, FFA and Treutlen House, just to name a few.

heresa Palmer began her career with Edward Jones in Wisconsin in 1998. She and her family relocated to the Pooler area around 2008, where Theresa opened her new office at the corner of Highway 80 and Rogers Street in Pooler, GA. Theresa is mother to two wonderful children and is the grandmother of a beautiful grandson. After leaving family and friends in Wisconsin to move to Georgia, Theresa quickly learned the importance of making genuine connections with others. “I didn’t know a soul when I moved down here. My clients have become my family over the years,” explains Theresa. This understanding and drive to make personal connections with people is what Theresa is known for in the Pooler and surrounding areas, along with her ability to relate to her clients. Knowing that each client has unique needs, she tailors each portfolio to match what is best for her clients. But what makes Theresa truly unique goes well beyond each client’s portfolio. Theresa often meets with her clients outside of the office to discuss their goals. Sometimes over lunch, other times while bowling, or even while fishing with her clients! She meets them wherever they feel most comfortable and truly enjoys getting to know each of her clients. “I believe it’s important to invest my time to understand what you’re working toward before you invest your money,” explains Theresa. Pooler has since become “home” and has become the perfect fit for Theresa. “I feel absolutely fortunate to live in and to serve this community,” says Theresa. ENT Associates of Savannah: Serving Patients In Pooler
F
or the past forty years, when patients in the Coastal Empire have experienced any type of head and neck disorders, they usually found their way to offices of ENT Associates of Savannah. Since starting the practice four decades ago, Dr. Zoller and his colleagues have seen many technological advancements in the medical field, but one thing remains constant with him and his staff: a dedication to giving the best possible care to every patient that comes into their offices. Their locations include Savannah, Rincon, Pooler, Statesboro, Bluffton and Richmond Hill, in addition to the ENT Surgical Center located on the Armstrong State University campus. Dr. Zoller recently reflected on the enormous growth of his practice over the years. “Having trained in Boston, I started in 1977 in Savannah. Seven years later I was joined by Dr. Fred Daniel, who trained in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Twenty-two years ago, Dr. Stephen Rashleigh joined the practice, having trained in Chicago, and Dr. William Moretz III joined us ten

years ago after being trained in Augusta. Dr. Brad Rawlings joined six years after his training in Norfolk, Virginia. Our most recent addition, Dr. Diane Davis, was in practice for over thirty years in Dublin, Georgia before joining ENT Associates two years ago" States Dr. Zoller. "We've had to add physicians over the years as well as our physician's assistant, in order to handle the volume of patients at the various satellite offices,” Zoller says. Now, with the newest location in Pooler, they offer in house CT scans, audiology services including a hearing booth. and allergy testing and treatment. In addition to the physicians, ENT Associates of Savannah has five doctors of audiology on staff who are experts in the newest hearing aid technology. The Audiology Department works both independently and in conjunction with the physicians to provide a wide range of hearing services, both diagnostic and rehabilitative. Additionally, there is an allergy clinic for testing and treatment. Residents in Pooler
WE BRING THE LAB TO YOU!
n today’s society, we all tend to live a little faster than we did 10 years ago, or 20 years ago. Times have changed, and the majority of people just don’t seem to have as much free time as before. So, we are always looking for ways to save time... even when it comes to our health. Well, thankfully there are resources available now that can help us with that, without losing any quality in service. LeTarsha Mack-Brown has done her homework, and this new business owner has an excellent service to offer our community. Mobile Stick, a mobile phlebotomy concierge, is under full swing. “I researched it and built Mobile Stick from scratch. I wanted to offer Savannah and surrounding communities something useful, while at the same time doing something I love,” stated LeTarsha. LeTarsha has over 20 years of
experience as a Phlebotomist, collecting blood samples from all age groups. She also has over 20 years of experience as a Certified Patient Care Technician. Patrick Whitledge is a partner in the business. He brings over 10 years of medical experience to the team. He has a past history as a Registered Nurse and currently holds a Masters In Physician Assistant Studies. “Patrick and I have worked together for a little over five years. We have a close bond and work well together...it’s been a good fit,” shares LeTarsha. Mobile Stick offers the convenience of bringing the lab to you. “We have customers who have to be to work before lab opens. We have customers who need blood work, but when they get off work, the lab is closed. We have customers

can now benefit from the services that ENT Associates have been offering to Savannah residents for forty years. “The population in Pooler grew so much that we eventually made the decision to move there. "They had been going to Pooler for over twenty years. There was definitely a need for their services enabling their patient not to have to drive into Savannah.” Dr. Zoller adds, “It's really nice to be part of the Pooler community, which has grown significantly. Many of our patients who have moved there from Savannah can now receive the same top notch service from our satellite office there.”
who have transportation issues. We have customers who have elderly parents and it’s hard to get them dressed and to the lab. We have customers who, just plain and simple, don't want to go sit in a lab and wait. That’s where we come in. We bring the lab to them, wherever they want me to come.” It’s a pretty simple process. If you have lab orders from your doctor, you call Mobile Stick. They will come and draw your blood, process it, and send the results to your physician. Mobile Stick also offers blood work to those who have no insurance. No doctors order needed! They also offer wellness kits to be drawn for a in-depth health screen of your blood. Medicaid pays 100% for these kits! Medicare pays a big portion and so does all other insurances. You can call them at (912)4179568 for more information. Call them and save some time. “One Stick… That’s It”

Thompson originally owned the funeral home since 1944, beginning a tradition of caring funeral service for Effingham County. The West Chatham Chapel, completed in August of 1999, was a culmination of Tommy's dream to serve friends and family on the westside. Ricky Eilerman Ricky Sells Georgia
R
icky Eilerman is a true man of service, first serving his country and the people of Effingham County as a soldier in the United States Army for 5 years as an MP and Sergeant. He is extremely proud of his military career and is a huge supporter of his brothers and sisters still serving in the military today, as well as those who have served in years past. Ricky continues to serve his community today as both a full-time firefighter in Savannah and as a licensed REALTOR® in Effingham County. Ricky found real estate through the guiding hand of his lovely wife, Ivy Eilerman, who is the Area Manager for On Q Financial in Savannah, GA. Through encouragement from Ivy and a fellow firefighting real estate agent in Florida, Ricky decided to take the leap of faith and begin his career in real estate. He attended Real Estate School through the Georgia Real Estate Commission and passed on his first attempt. Shortly thereafter, Ricky earned the Rookie of the Year Coldwell Banker Award in 2017. “I love helping people pick out their homes,” says Ricky. “Real estate has been the perfect fit for me.” When Ricky and Ivy started their family, they relocated from Florida back to Ivy’s hometown in Effingham County. “There's no place I would rather raise a family than right here in Effingham County. I absolutely love the connection and the small-town family feel of Effingham,” explains Ricky. Ricky is a man of service to his community and country as a firefighter and Army Veteran, but it is obvious his family is what he finds the most pride in each and every day. “I love my wife,” said Ricky passionately. “I love singing and playing guitar with her, and it is something we love to do together quite often.” The value Ricky places on family is also evident in his approach to real estate. Being a family guy, Ricky knows what is most important to young families looking to buy and sell in Effingham County. “I know what it’s like to have to make those big decisions as a parent while worrying about how they will affect your family. I know because I have been there! I want people to rest at ease, knowing I understand, being a Dad myself,” explains Ricky. Working with Ricky is stress-free, as he is not focused on rushing the deals to make a commission. He is able to support his family through his full-time job in service allowing the process of buying a home take direction from his client’s timeline and not his own. “I don’t care if we close in 30 days or 100 days. I want what is best for YOU,” explains Ricky. Ricky is honored to have the opportunity to work with the people of Effingham County. “I love serving Effingham County and bringing people into Effingham County. If I get to help pick out our future neighbors, what a true blessing that is,” explains Ricky. “I am proud of what I do, and I am proud to continue to serve.” Ricky Eilerman is a licensed REALTOR® through Coldwell Banker Intercoastal Realty, located at 5805 Hwy 21, South, RINCON, GA.
