One Dozen Down

pring is definitely in the air…some days anyway. We have certainly had some crazy weather so far this year. One day, it’s shorts and flip flops, and the next, it’s sweaters and jackets. Recently, I celebrated my 12th year in business. Independence Day Publishing was founded in March of 2006. Since then, my life has been full of surprises. Things change, kind of like the weather. Twelve years ago was a scary time for me…but scary in a good way. I was determined to open this business, no matter what it took. But, I was apprehensive in some ways. I mean, I was leaving a job with great pay and benefits, to follow a Julie Hales, PUBLISHER dream. It was a huge risk, but one I was willing to take. When I think of how this year has started, not always knowing what to expect from day to day, it sums up the entire reality of my job as owner of this magazine. I never know what’s going to happen from one day to the next…that is one of the most beautiful parts of being in this business. There is never a dull moment. There are many variables in this crazy occupation of mine…one day I may be in meetings all day, the next day I may be selling an ad, the next day I may be on a photo shoot or writing a story or working with a freelance photographer…you just never know where I will be or what I will be doing. But, there is always one common denominator, I love what I do. The past dozen years has been very rewarding to me. I never dreamed when I opened this business that my journey would take me down so many different paths. Each path has led me to another adventure. But the best adventure of all is that I get to share each and every experience with you, throughout the pages of Pooler Magazine. All of the wonderful people I have met along this journey are outlined on the pages you have seen over the last 12 years. And, the good news is, the pages of my journey will continue to be shared with you, our readers, for a long time to come. Here’s to my next dozen!

An American Dream Come True Laukik Patel

story by Kathryn Vandenhouten

photos by Miranda Osborn

L

aukik Patel has big plans for the future of childcare. The entrepreneur is the owner of Angel Learning Center in Pooler. The daycare and tutoring center is equipped for children ages six weeks to five years, and boasts state of the art features in safety and hands-on learning. What’s even more impressive is that Patel built this business from the ground up when he was just twenty years old. Now, at twenty-three, he is well on his way to building a childcare franchise that he hopes will continue to expand throughout the nation. The young entrepreneur is projected to open his third learning center this year. And though he has created a name for himself and found his niche in the childcare industry-make no mistake-his success didn’t come easily, and it didn’t come cheap. Patel’s parents were born in India, and though they lived comfortably there, their beginnings in America were humble, to say the least. His father came to America in his twenties, with very little money,to make a better life for himself. “He used to work sixty hours a week-two jobs-cleaning, sweeping, mopping,” Patel says. Unfortunately, when Patel was a baby, his family’s living situation in New York was not ideal, so he moved back to India. “When I was born, my parents were broke. They were struggling,” he explains. “They dropped me off when I was eleven months old, and I didn’t come back to this country until I was five and a half.” Patel’s parents had become successful business owners by the time he started college. Little did they know he would have other ideas for their family business. He’d started college at Armstrong as a Biology major in hopes of becoming a doctor, but he began to doubt his career path. He was failing and on academic probation when a school counselor advised him to write down where he wanted to be in two years, five years and ten years. “I didn’t fill out two and five,” he recalls. “ I just put ‘I want to retire in ten years.’” He knew what he wanted; he just didn’t know how to get there at the time. So, later, when his cousin’s daughter needed tutoring with first grade reading, Patel offered to tutor her. He was so successful as her tutor that her friends wanted him to tutor them as well, and a business was born. Angel Tutoring started by word of mouth. Though Patel had college credits in Biology, he had no degree. “You don’t

need someone with a degree to do it,” he explains. “you don’t really need to have experience teaching children. You just need to understand where they’re stuck and help them get through that process.” And help them, he did. In fact, Angel Tutoring began growing so much that he had to rent an office and hire more tutors to keep up with the demand. When one of the tutors explained her major in Early Childhood Education and the prospects of opening a daycare center, he got the idea to build a daycare center and tutoring center in one. “You have to be business oriented to make it successful,” says Patel. “My parents had a history of building stuff and starting new businesses, so they ended up saying, ‘Okay. Let’s look at this deeper.” His parents believed in him, and they got an architect and designed a building for his first learning center. But reality set in when he realized it would cost 4.5 million dollars to build. He couldn’t afford the down payment, so his parents let him sell their store to help fund the project. “I was twenty years old,” he recalls. “Not

even legally able to drink, and I finessed a deal with a guy to buy the convenience store, and I used that money for the down payment here.” And even though the business has been a huge success, Patel will never forget the pressure and uncertainty in the beginning. “I realized I had leveraged everything my parents had ever owned. I put a lien on my house to keep this going,” he says. “Everything my parents had ever worked for could’ve been washed away.” Luckily, the reward was worth the risk. He opened Angel Learning Center in 2016 when he was just twenty one years old. Since then, he has poured all his time and energy into making the business profitable. Most of that time was spent doing research and asking lots of questions. He asked his friends with children what they were looking for in a daycare, and he made a list of their responses. After comparing notes, he discovered their top three concerns: safety, transparency and curriculum. “Safety is our number one concern,” says Patel. He built the school after the

Sandy Hook school shooting, and he wanted to make sure visitors could not easily enter his school without permission. As far as transparency, Patel’s school has cameras in every classroom. “You can stream live video of your child from your phone at all times,” he says. He has worked with the Department of Justice for Georgia to insist that every childcare center needs to have cameras. “I am so vocal about this because it’s inexpensive...and there’s no reason for you not to have cameras unless you’re trying to hide something from the parents,” he adds. Though Patel put his Biology degree on hold to create his dream business, it hasn’t hindered him at all. He is constantly doing internet research, and he’s not afraid to get help from expert consultants in education

12 May/June 2018 | www.PoolerMagazine.com

when he needs it. And even though he has had success without it, he plans to finish the courses to complete his college degree within the year. “You know where my Biology helps me out? Evolution,” he says. “ Evolution says you need to change with the time or you’re going to be extinct, and businesses run the same way.” He has a visited multiple daycares in various states, and he is confident that he can improve modern daycare and learning facilities. “ I made childcare for this century,” says Patel. “Daycares can be advanced.” Later this year Patel will introduce Owlet socks for the infants in the facility. The socks have a sensor that tracks the baby’s heart rate and oxygen level, which the par-

ents can see from their phones. “I’ve been working with this company for six months now to put one sock on every child’s foot,” he says. One of the reasons Patel’s ideas have been so successful is that he is creating childcare for millennial parents who are used to new technology. They don’t want letters home and an old fashioned report card; they want everything available at the touch of a button on their phones. Times have changed, and childcare must change with it. Even though the learning center only goes up to Pre-K, Patel is adamant about having the most up-to-date technology readily available for his students. Most four and five year olds aren’t using microscopes like his students are, for example, but he wants his students to be the exception to the rule. “I have the best intent for children. I want them to succeed so much,” he says. “I want to leave a legacy behind.” With his ultimate goal to open twenty to thirty more schools under the Angel brand, that dream may become a reality. Patel is truly living the American dream. “This country allowed me at a young age to do what I wanted to fulfill my dreams, and take care of my parents, because they worked their butts off to give me a good head start,” he says. He credits his father, Thakor, with being the biggest role model of his life- not just for making the decision to make a new life for his family in America, but for his drive, his business sense, and his work ethic. He believed in his son’s vision, and now that vision is coming to life. The ultimate goal is to open an Angel Learning Center franchise, with twenty to thirty schools nationwide. But his first students in Pooler will always be special to him. “I’m young enough where I’ll see these kids get into college,” he says. “I’ll still be alive and I’ll go to these kids’ high school graduations.” When the children succeed, his business succeeds. Laukik Patel has created his business from the ground up, a feat which most people won’t accomplish in a lifetime, let alone by the age of 23. His vision is to modernize the childcare industry with updated technology and safety features and bring daycares into the twenty-first century. He is living proof that anyone can achieve their dreams with perseverance and a good work ethic, despite their background or financial situation. The young entrepreneur knows this first-hand. “The American Dream is not dead,” he says. “I promise you that.”

A Weekend Whim...

Taking Sanctuary at Kiawah Island story and photos by Miranda Osborn

Publisher’s Note: Welcome to the newest addition of Pooler Magazine. Weekend Whims will be a new feature for our publication, giving our readers some fabulous and exciting weekend adventure spots to consider. We all need a good weekend get-a-away sometimes. Let Pooler Magazine share some places close to home and full of beauty and fun. Our very Own Miranda Osborn will be enticing you to kick back and enjoy a nice weekend away.

T

here’s a nice ring to a place called Sanctuary, and that’s exactly what visitors are immersed in when they hand their keys over to the pantaloon-and-argyle socked valets upon arrival at one of the country’s most beautiful Forbes Five-Star resorts. That is, of course, after a breathtakingly scenic drive along oak tree canopied roads wending around the iconic and resplendently green Ocean Course; home of the 1991 Ryder Cup Tournament, 2012 and upcoming 2021 PGA

Championships. Water calmly laps the shore of the ten miles of private beach of this barrier island off the Atlantic coast, just over 20 miles southwest of Charleston at an idyllic location many have heard of yet few venture to. Let there be no doubt, however, the journey is worth every minute of the drive amongst the miles of red wildflowers ushering guests down a floral-carpeted byway. Massive floor-to-ceiling painted marsh vistas by local artist Karen Larson grace the walls of Sanctuary behind sprawling opulent staircases to the left and right of the grand foyer, rivaling the equally magnificent views of jasmine bushes, bicycling adventurers and windswept sand licking at the legs of those taking a stroll just beyond the resplendent high-paned windows. Opened in 1996, the 250-room resort and its 1,300 full time employees is housed on an island home to the largest population of bobcats in the United States as well as five pairs of nesting bald eagles and over 700 alligators. Kiawah Island is also one of only three places on earth that one can

experience strand fishing – where fish are “pushed” up on shore. Dolphins circle, make a current, find a school of fish and rush the fish towards the shore where the mammals will then enjoy the fruits of their labors. Bronzes of hunting dogs and gold framed artwork adorn walls and sideboards of Sanctuary, and opulent, yet inviting couches and reticent tables can be found tucked invitingly away in corners. Incidentally, the floor of the relatively new hotel had spacers put into it so that it would creak like the floors of yesteryear. A crackling blaze beckons on blustery days within a hearth big enough to disappear in, replete with its life-size portrait of Sanctuary’s fictional Scottish earl, monsieur Dalhousie. With cleft-hand and long nose he resides as “master of the house,” resident over the one-story-tall mantle. This is all discoverable of course, if patrons venture away from the culinary masterpieces served whilst lounging in polished wood chairs during the midday respite or into the evening at the aptly

named Jasmine Porch restaurant nestled in one of Sanctuary’s corridors. One of the hotels’ dining spaces, the Porch is known for Lowcountry cuisine at its finest. Don’t pass over the incredible Pear Mignonette, Benne Seed Hickory Hill Buttermilk and Sorghum oysters, and make sure to save room to indulge in cornmeal crusted tofu, delightful pimento adornments or outstanding She Crab bisque with curry and nutmeg; to name just a few of the delicious offerings. And for those with a hankering for big, bold and rich wines – even if it’s faux pas to pair a red with the salmon and a most incredible lemon Beurre-Blanc – ask for Bin number 446 and prepare to be greeted with a delectable Napa Valley flagship cabernet – “Anthology” from Conn Creek vineyards. The resort hotel spa – one of only 52 Forbes five-star spas in the world – is of course, as grand as one would envision at such a spectacular seaside mansion; the sounds of the beckoning ocean natural relaxation unto itself. Come hungry, eat oysters, sip Prosecco, stare long into the fire or make up

a prolific story of your very own about Dalhousie. Try your swing on the rolling lush greens of one of 90 holes of championship golf before delighting in sunset at the Ryder Cup Bar; enjoy a friendly game on the Har-Tru tennis courts, or dip your toes into the ocean or into one of the spa’s signature services. Whatever your fancy, at Kiawah Island, one is bound to indeed find sanctuary.

It’s Not Just Coaching, It’s Making A Difference

POOLER RECREATION SPOTLIGHT

C

Christopher Harrelson

story by Stephanie Cardozo

hristopher is an eighteenyear-old senior in high school. He attends early college and by the time he reaches his senior year in high school, he will be a semester away from being a college junior. He sets a high example for high school students as he fills his days with school, work, and volunteering at the Pooler recreation department. Christopher plans on attending Georgia Southern University in the Fall, majoring in early childhood education. His passion for education and children go a long way in both his academics and home life. When he was just three-years-old, he began playing t-ball. He played baseball until he was about twelve-years-old and decided, at that time, that he wanted to move on to something different. Baseball lives within the Harrelson family as Christopher’s younger brother played ball as well. This allowed Christopher to fall into a different position. He assisted with his brother’s travel team, working on the books, keeping the dugout in order, and all that entails in keeping the team running successfully. About the time Christopher’s youngest brother was four-years-old, his father, Powell Harrelson, asked him if he was interested in helping him coach six and under teams. “And I said, sure! I have no problem with that,: Christopher responds with ease and enthusiasm. His father had complete confidence and trust in Christopher taking on the role of head coach for the younger children. This allowed him to focus on his middle son, Jesse’s, team, who was fifteen-years-old at the time. Christo-

photos by Nelson LaPorte

pher continued coaching the six and under team, moving with them to the next grade level, eight and under, truly living the baseball vision the Harrelsons have in volunteering for the Pooler Recreation Department. “I’m not going to lie, we haven’t won yet, but the kids are smiling and that is all that matters.” As a volunteer coach, Christopher’s objective is to be sure the kids are having fun while learning the strategy of the game. “I’m going to be an elementary school teacher; I just want to teach kids—whether I’m teaching them math in the classroom or baseball on the field.” Spending most of his days at the Pooler recreation fields, Christopher keeps all the necessary parts moving; working the concession stands, keeping

the scoreboard, maintenance, etc. He is a force to be reckoned with at the recreation department and has made it perfectly clear that he is there to stay. “Oh, they couldn't get rid of me if they wanted to,” he says jokingly. When asked how he manages to keep his grades up, volunteer, and work, he laughingly says, “Like a chicken with its head cut off” This proves that with hard work and dedication, anything is possible as long as you want it bad enough. Who has inspired you on your journey to becoming a teacher? “I don’t really know who inspired me to become a teacher, if I am being honest.” Christopher attended a private school from an early age until about six grade, later moving along

to a small church school. He expressed how the teachers impacted him in such a positive way that stayed with him over the years. “Having that one on one time with the teachers, they felt more like aunts and uncles and it was then that I knew that’s what I wanted to do with my life.” Those teachers provided the time and attention a child needs in order to feel they can do anything they put their minds to, and he pays it forward by providing that to the children he coaches. “Til this day, I still go back to that school and spend time there just to see them.” It is moments such as those that are pivotal in a child’s life. Educators spend so much time with children and Christopher is the perfect example of a wonderful outcome in providing a student with the proper care, nurturing, discipline, and education needed in order to move forward successfully. These elements are taken with him on the field and keep him engaged with each one of the kids. “I want to be one of those teachers—one of those coaches that you see in public and run up to and say, you taught me ten years ago and I still remember you.” As Christopher continues with the Pooler Recreation Department, he consistently asks the important questions when

coaching his team. “Are these kids having fun?” He goes on to explain that winning is not the priority in that age group, having fun and keeping the kids’ spirits high is his number one priority. However, while he would like to get his hard-working team a win, his concern is to make sure his kids are being just that, kids. Having fun and playing the game to the best of their ability. “My age has been a big challenge,” Christopher explains. It is difficult to prove to parents. as well as fellow coach-

POOLER

P

es, that he is up to the task of coaching. “I explain to the parents that there will be a change, and I will have to be a little harder on the kids if we want to win some games. But, it is not just about the win. The most important thing to me is that they are enjoying the game, they have a love for playing, and they learn something.” Christopher is grateful for his time at the rec department and sees himself coaching for a long time to come. Sometimes, home base is where the heart is, and Christopher is here to stay.

Sam Snead’s Oak Grill and Tavern

I

story by Marsha Stewart

f you are looking to feed your passion for great food, then come into Sam Snead’s Tavern! Sam Snead’s Oak Grill and Tavern is a truly unique restaurant named after the legendary golfer Sam Snead (a.k.a. “Slammin Sammy).” In keeping with the spirit of golf, guests can enjoy the club house feel with rich mahogany wood décor and golf memorabilia collected by Sam Snead himself as he made his way into golf history with the most PGA Tour victories. Diners can choose from a wide selection of foods grilled over an oak wood fire, creating a unique flavor that compliments our Certified Angus Beef © steaks, seafood, pork chops, or our juicy fall off the bone ribs. And if you like fish, you can’t beat Sam Snead’s, as the fish is delivered daily and prepared to perfection by our amazing chefs. Sam Snead’s offers a variety of exceptional dishes prepared fresh in house, so there’s no doubt that anyone can satisfy their hunger for great food. Pooler’s Sam Snead’s Oak Grill and Tavern, one of a small chain of restaurants, is managed by operating partner and general manager Lori Taylor. She has been with the company for over eleven years and oversees the daily operations of the restaurant. Lori is very proud of her tremendous staff and management

team, William Strouse and Kareta Mobley. They always strive to make each diner’s experience a “hole in one.” Lori states, “Most of our staff members have been here for several years and are more like family members than employees. We offer our guests the best in fresh, made from scratch cuisine. Combine the food with the service, throw in the ambiance, and we give you the total package in your dining experience.” Even though Snead’s is part of a chain, it does not have that chain feel. Lori is very proud of the local flair her establishment has to offer. Her chefs also

take great pride in offering local nightly specials like prime rib, tender lamb shanks and a fresh catch of the day. Whether you join them for lunch or dinner, you will find the atmosphere warm and inviting. And if you think the atmosphere is fantastic, just wait until you taste the delicious food! Sam Snead’s certainly is one of a kind. Sam Snead’s doesn’t forget about the salad lovers either. They have a wide array of tasty salads which are complimented by their very own house made salad dressings. Of course, all of these delicious meals should only be followed by the one of a kind house made desserts that are available at Sam Snead’s as well. Sam Snead’s Oak Grill and Tavern features an outdoor patio that overlooks the lagoon and golf course of the Crosswind Golf Club. The patio is also pet friendly! If you are planning any holiday parties or business meetings, Sam Snead’s is the perfect place. They have a banquet room that accommodates up to 50 people. Call Lori and speak to her about the catering menu or visit the website for menus and information at www.samsneads.com. Regardless of what drink you prefer, be sure to stop by the tavern that is like no other in town. The rich colors of the Mahogany wood bar and built-in wine racks, along with the low-lit pendant lamps induce a warm, inviting atmosphere. They www.PoolerMagazine.com | May/June 2018 23

offer 24 craft beers on tap every day. Even the well drinks offered at Sam Snead’s are top notch, with brand names like Bacardi, Jim Beam, Beefeaters, Seagram 7 and Jose Cuervo. They also have quite a selection of top shelf scotches and tequilas. Sam Snead’s also offers an extensive wine list to which no one else in Pooler can compare. From their wine display case, one can choose from some very rare and unique varieties of wine. They also feature several wines from famous pro golfers such as Greg Norman, Jack Nicklaus and Ernie Els to name a few. If they don’t carry your favorite beverage, just ask and they soon will! And don’t forget their Happy Hour that is Monday through Friday from 4:30 to 6:30 in the bar. The tavern and restaurant are truly a unique and pleasurable experience unmatched by any other establishment in the area. They are definitely the hidden jewel of the Pooler area! Sam Snead’s Oak Grill and Tavern is located at 7 Sylvester C. Formey Drive just before the entrance to the airport, and sits snuggly between Crosswinds Golf Course and Hyatt Place. Whether you contact a Realtor first or a Mortgage Lender, it is crucial to shop with confidence. That means getting a pre-qualification letter. I take the detailed steps to get to know you on a personal level and figure out the best way to get you financed. There are many programs available for various financial situations, that’s why my job is to help simplify the process. Find a lender you trust who is going to educate you throughout the mortgage journey and work well with everyone involved in your home purchase.

After your lender gets you pre-qualified, hire a Realtor like me. Don’t worry, I work off the commission provided by the seller’s side so there is no out of pocket expenses from the buyer. As your Realtor, I will provide you with the tools and knowledge to find you the best home that fits your needs within your budget. I will handle EVERYTHING from contract to close. A Realtor carries his client through the entire transaction from ensuring you get in touch with the right mortgage provider to picking out the perfect house and negotiating the purchase price to educating you and helping you schedule the inspector and setting you up with the right closing Attorney. My job is to ensure your best interest in the transaction. Need to sell your home first? I can do that too and provide a competitive rate!

It’s a professional evaluation of the current condition of a home that you are looking to buy or sell! The results of my report help you to make an educated home purchase. As a certified Inspector, I bring valuable knowledge to the table to help you feel secure in moving forward with the offer. I’ll send a detailed report to you and your Realtor. He or she can negotiate getting defects fixed or even renegotiating the price! Let’s get that house Capwell Approved! Remember...“walls can’t talk”

We provide legal guidance to individuals relating to the purchase or sale of real property. We prepare and review documents relating to real estate transactions such as purchase agreements, lien documents, title insurance policies and other closing documents. Georgia Forestry Mulching

eorgia Forestry Mulching is a Land Management Company owned and operated by Effingham County resident, Alice Hurst. The company was formed in 2016 but the learning and research of clearing land via the mulching process was started well before then. Alice and her husband Clint’s love for the outdoors and finding a way to provide people with an affordable way to enjoy their land is what prompted them to start researching the land clearing process of mulching in 2014. Both Clint and Alice are land owners and natives of Effingham County and have one son, Carson. Mulching is done by using a high powered machine equipped with rotational drum style cutters to grind vegetation into mulch without the need for additional machinery. In other words, the machine drives around and eats trees and underbrush, selectively reducing unwanted vegetation and woody debris into a bed of nutritive, soil stabilizing mulch. This process is not right for all land clearing needs but can meet the needs of small residential tracts of land from small lots .25 acres in size up to large tracts of land

100+ acres and everything in between. We can transform underbrush, stumps and trees up to 8” in diameter into mulch with mobile machinery in a single step while strategically avoiding keeper trees and erosion problems. We can also create trail systems to get around on large tracts or hunting land and help owners trying to sale land by cutting paths to provide potential buyers a way to see what the land has to offer without spending a fortune to have someone bring several pieces of equipment in to clear. I enjoy seeing the aftermath of the mulching job and seeing the owners face when they see my operator make the first pass! It’s a fascinating machine and does an amazing job. It’s more than just about the machine though. I can run the Skid Steer myself with the bucket and grapple and love to get in it with Carson and piddle but the forestry cutter head is a whole different ballgame. It’s no game! It takes someone that knows how to work the cutter head to mulch down the trees and not just “knock” them down per say. It’s definitely a gift and a skill that my operator, Jamie Aldrich has! Jamie is a native of Brooklet and grew up operating a variety

of equipment on his family farm. He now works with me and he enjoys the work and meeting the people just as much as we do. It’s a true blessing and joy to be able to meet different people and provide them with an affordable service to help them reclaim their overgrown property or just to help them clean up property to sale, farm or hunt. We’ve cleared food plots, land for owners to sale, pine tree farms, residential lots for homeowners and contractors, commercial property for surveying and several other scenarios. There is nothing like seeing the excitement of people when Jamie gets done! He has people trying to tip him all the time and he doesn’t understand why! I can tell you why…it’s hard to find people to do what they say they are going to do and together that is just what we do!

Selling Land? Make It More Accessible

We can selectively transform underbrush, stumps and trees into mulch with mobile machinery in a single step while strategically avoiding keeper trees and erosion problems.

ALICE HURST

Mulching the trees and underbrush provides a natural erosion barrier and nutrient builder for the soil underneath and you are left with nothing to haul off or burn!

Business as Usual at Wiley’s Home Center

E

ffingham County is experiencing more new construction now than we have seen since 2008. The market is good. And, the change in the market is a blessing to many. As the real estate market affects many businesses in our community, it has a major effect on the furniture business. New houses are sure to equal new furniture, and the people of Wiley’s have seen the impact. Although Wiley’s has been a well-known name in our community for over 31 years, the amount of new clientele has increased dramatically over the last several months. “New people are walking in our store daily and being pleasantly surprised at the selection and quality we have to offer,” Says Detra Thomas, CEO of Wiley’s Home Center. Wiley’s is experiencing a more frequent turnover of inventory due to the residential growth. Detra adds, “You can walk in our showroom on a weekly basis and see something different. We are constantly getting in new shipments and changing our displays.” “We are happy to welcome the new people into our community. It is very refreshing to see new faces walking through our doors, but just as equally rewarding to grab a hug or a kiss from those who have been loyal to us for many years. We are all a big happy family,” adds Detra. And, family is important to this local business. It has been family owned and operated since inception. In April 1987, Wiley and Rosalyn Thomas opened the doors and welcomed the people of Effingham County and nearby communities in. Their daughter, Detra, joined a year later. When you walk in the door at Wiley’s, you immediately see a vast display of furnishings. Most furnishing are set in a “room” atmosphere, giving you an idea of

what it will look like in your home. Don’t forget about the 35,000 square foot warehouse, full of additional inventory. Wiley’s carries over 150 brands of furniture, appliances, bedding and floor coverings, there is something for every taste. At Wiley’s Home Center, they understand the importance of great customer service and do not underestimate the power of trust and loyalty. Whether you are a new customer or a repeat one, you will be treated like family. Wiley’s Home Center is proud to serve their customers with integ-

rity, honesty, and customer satisfaction When you come to Wiley’s you are always greeted with a friendly, smiling face. “We often hear customers say that there is not a store like this anywhere in the area that carries the quality of furniture for the price,” Detra states. “Our goal is to provide excellent customer service and same day delivery.” So, if you are looking for quality furniture at a reputable store, look no further. Wiley’s Home Center is the expert at “Helping to Make Your House a Home.”

Testimonials "I shop at Wiley’s Home Center because I am treated like I am the most important customer. The staff continues to give quality customer service and is willing to assist you in whatever way necessary. The kindness and concern expressed by all makes you want to return." - Stacey Weston

“I have been shopping at Wiley’s for many years. Detra always has plenty to choose from and makes sure that I am well taken care of… from my purchase to the delivery” -Audrey Hales

“Being fairly new to Effingham County, I had no idea what to expect when I walked through the door at Wiley’s my first time. Boy, was I impressed. The selection is unbelievable and the quality speaks for itself. It is by far better than any of the furniture stores I have visited in Savannah. -Marsha Stewart

iAnna Jenkins and Kimberly Stalnaker make up a dynamic real estate team. These ladies are both licensed with Coldwell Banker Intercoastal Realty in Rincon. They are only a “team” in the name of real estate, but they don’t call themselves a team. They are equal partners. And, this partnership gives their clients a phenomenal “two for one” deal. Recently, these ladies have become affiliates with the “Homes For Heroes” program. Homes for Heroes’ mission is to provide savings to heroes who provide services to our nation and its communities. Heroes include: firefighters, law enforcement, military (active, reserves and veterans), healthcare workers, EMS and teachers. Participating sellers receive reduced listing commissions and participating buyers will receive a check about two weeks after their closing in appreciation for their service. The amount of reward is based on the sales price of the home. Both Kim and DiAnna are very excited about their new affiliation with this program. “It is a wonderful way for us to serve our community. We have helped so many military families and law enforcement find their dream homes. Now, we can do this as a way of giving back to those who serve us,” states DiAnna. “My dad was a proud veteran. He served in both the Marines

and the Army. In this last election, my father had me get him an absentee ballot, so he could fill it out from his death bed. He felt it was that important to vote,” says Kim, “He died five days before the presidential election, but his vote was in.” Kim and DiAnna both live in Effingham County. They have both been licensed since 2003. DiAnna states, we are licensed to sell all over the state, but Effingham is the area we love.” These ladies start every day with prayer together. They pray for their buyers and sellers, and for their families and friends. Kim says, “We feel this is important to us. It is first and foremost that we give thanks to God for our business.” If you are looking to buy or sell, give this team…no…give this partnership a call. From backroads to beaches, and everywhere in between, DiAnna and Kim will get you home!
