C A R T D R A W I N G This project included a top, side and front view of a cart viewed in class. A section, perspective and wheel detail were also added.

P E R S P E C T I V E S & R E N D E R I N G S Various perspectives include views from around my dorm,a kitchen view from an original floor plan and two drawn from in class examples. Various renderings have been completed with ink and colored pencil.

V I S U A L N A R R A T I V E - B I R T H C I T Y By using home town images, the intention of this assignment was to romanticize the city your grew up in. I choose to put emphasis on the images I used by raising them above th them behind the base, instead of just meerly placing the images on the board. I incorporated black, grey and white paint chips to create a sense of rythm and to lead the eye els were added to the Embassy sign and light in the baseball stadium to ephasize and compare the two details; the Embassy sign represents the history of my home town while t we’re advancing into our future.

N E W S D E S K D E S I G N This news desk was created as a redesign for NBC News. The goal was to provide a clean, sleek, updated design that effectively portrayed NBC News. The iconic peacock was choosen to front the desk, featuring backlight colored glass feathers. The desk also includes metal legs and a floating glass top. 17

C H A I R D E T A I L S Given a chair in class, the intention was to create front, back, side and top elevetions as well as two details and an isometric view. 18

O N E P E R S P E C T I V E : T H R E E R E N D E R I N G S To practice rendering, the assignment was to trace a perspective and render it 3 different ways.

S I T T I N G O N T H E E D G E After designing a unique chair, we were to combine our ideas with those of a partner to create a new chair. From that design, a side, top and front view were drawn to scale and placed on top of one another.

V O L U M E T R I C M O D E L Given a basic floor plan, this task involved building a model of a bedroom, choosing materials and finishes and creating a program for them.

22

23

While the basic floor plan was given for this loft, our task was to divide the space with 24

N E W Y O R K L O F T h a partner to create 2 separate apartments, and then to design our particular apartment. This design includes two bedrooms, an office loft, a laundry room and a movie room. 25

M U S I C P O I E S I S This project demonstrates the ability to recognize or construct generative geometry and to use them as visual representations. The exercise was particularly created to embody a song. The horizontal rectangles deptict the progression of the music while the diagonal traingle shows the progression of the lyrics. This song, I WIll Follow You Into The Dark by Death Cab For Cutie, is about someone following another, so the squares are inside the circles for this representation, following them to the end - or darkness. The lines and shapes on the right hand side show light at the bottom of the page and darkness at the top.

27

A L L E G R E A N D S I M P S O N L O UN G E This project required taking measurements of the actual spaces and creating plans and elevations. From t

R E C E P T I O N P O D I U M A N D S E A T I N G : A L L E G R E After redesigning the restaurant Allegre, the next task was to create a new, unique podium for the restaurant hostess and to show the details of the banquette seating. d vertical rectangles on the front surface of the podium. An extension was added to the front for privacy for the hostess, as well as shelves for storage of menus and other items.

S P A C E T H E F I N A L This Photoshop collage was created to visually represent the song Such Great Heights, originally sung by the band The Postal Service. For this piece, the later Iron and Wine version of the song was chosen. This version of the song is much slower and conveys an almost vintage feel. Because of this, the collage adopts this feel through the use of the vintage car and radio. A playful look is brought about by the mountains and curving hills. The song Such Great Heights talks about people trying to bring a couple back down to where they are but “everything looks perfect from far away”. To show this,a smaller hand is seen on the brighter side of the collage behind the mountain up high on the larger hill. A larger hand is seen on the darker side behind the radio calling the couple back down from the mountain onto the smaller hill. The vintage car is headed up to the “great heights” while the radio plays the song leading it there. While the photo collage visually represents the song it also uses the design elements such as balance, repetition and scale to enhance the design. The text on the right side of the image balances the high mountain on the left. The hill is repeated but at different scales along the bottom of the photo. Finally, the size of the mountain against the radio shows that the heights are much more inportant to the couple than what people say.

S U P E R M O D E L Given a group to work with, and an inspiration flower, the Allium Gigantic, the goal was to design an abstract three dimensional representation of the flower using AutoCAD and the laser cutter. 34

A U T O C A D P L A N S A ND E L E V A T I O N S The aim for this project was to take measurements of a roomand create the plans and elevations in AutoCAD, including annotations and line thicknesses. 35

A U T O C A D S E C T I O N D R A W I N G Previously given a picture of a cashier counter section, the objective was to copy the information into AutoCAD being mindful of measurements and lineweights.

36

S U P E R M O D E L 2 This project required a previously designed space of 500 square feet to create elevations and laser cut to build the model. This particular area included a bedroom, laundry room, kitchen and dining room. The ceiling was created to be removeable so the ceiling features can be more easily seen.

37

O N C E T H E R E W A S This project was based off of the Grimm fairy tale Rumpelstiltskin. After reading the story, the task was to analyze it and create a vignette that portrayed the spatial grammar and feel of the space. The developed space was designed to be like the prison the girl is trapped inside. The horizontal windows on the left wall and the clear projections above the table show the hope that the girl has while trapped. The lower ceiling on the right side and step down to the table represent her sense of aloneness and fear.

R E B U I L D T H E S T O R Y “ Dream catchers trap your bad dreams in their web while your good dreams pass through the web and the feathers and slide down onto you. “ This is the concept this model was based off of. The conceptual space is entered on the side of the wall, which is jagged to portray bad dreams. Walking around the spiral to enter the center of the “dream catcher”, the “string” of the dream catcher is seen overhead as well as the clear “feather” paths.

41

42

Y E A R S F R O M N O W Using the plan from another project, the concept of this assignment was to choose one space and “fururize” it. To do so, there have been suspended ceilings added to the living room as well as a suspended sofa that appears to be “hoovering”.

C O M M U N I T Y C O M P L E X Given a particular race of people, (the Lumins), a community complex was needed to be built featuring a game center, gathering space and food prep area and a community ritual space. This design idea includes a sustainable water feature that powers the building, a pond and green house for food sources, a lofted gathering space, kitchen, ritual recharging center and large open game and training space with a suspended training loft.
