Popular Culture Institute Program
Analogous Color Palette
The colors blue, purple, and pink will be seen most predominately throughout the space, and though not reflected in the following 3D drawings, hot pink will be used in spaces such as the main exhibit and women's bathroom to bring an element of fun and youthfulness to the museum.
These colors were chosen as a method of creating an equally feminine and masculine space without deterring to more gender-neutral colors such as orange or green. Pink and blue, in this case, are meant to disassociate the common notions of color-gender relations. The Popular Culture Institute will encourage playfulness and creativity.

Bubble Diagram
Depicts the relationship of rooms to one another in a more general form through circles that mark the area in which they will be placed. The block diagram is a more solidified version of this diagram while the bubble diagram is more of an initial idea planner.

Floor Plan Popular Culture Institute
Shows the general floorplan of the museum, which is essentially a 54', 36' block with minor adjustments. Periodic measurements are taken in order to gain a firm understanding of the space's dimensions. This floor plan gives a starting point for room planning and initial design.

Meeting Room
A bright, calm space where employees of the Popular Culture Institute can meet to discuss business matters or simply take a break. A moody blue was chosen for the walls the provide a "safe" and relaxed space, while the floors were changed from concrete (entry, main exhibit, bathrooms) to a mid-tone hardwood that effectively warms the meeting room.
Brown leathers for the meeting chairs, wood wall accents/shelving, and a collection of green floor plants create a sense of cohesiveness and cohesiveness.

Entry
A moody, luxurious space defined primarily by the west and east accent walls. The museum is meant to start right as you walk in - the entry designed to encapture the attention of the museum-goer as soon as they enter the building. Concrete floors and warm beige/gray walls were selected as neutrals as means of drawing the eye toward the waiting area. A rich blue velvet was selected for the couch while the accent chair is of brushed silver steel. The east accent wall is made entirely of mirror (minus the windows) and greatly opens up the relatively small space. A smoked glass shields the eye from the main exhibit lying on the other side, thus providing a sense of excitement as one walks between the two spaces.

Curator's Office
Designed for the purpose of function rather than glamour, the curator's office is a small space defined primarily by the black brick accent wall and natural lighting provided by the two windows placed on the east wall. The curator's office was fashioned similarly to the meeting room as means of creating a relaxed, workcentric space where the inhabitant can effectively focus and speak with invited individuals.

Paloma St.Compact Residential Project
Designed to house 2-3 individuals, high demand for land has caused smaller, two-story homes with attached garages to become very popular in areas such as Venice and Long Beach. To accommodate for parking, such a home can be built where the garages are built on the grade level to maintain a compact footprint.
The following space is a 25' W by 90' D two-story home that amounts to 2,000 square feet, including the garage. The clients wish to have the convenience and security of an enclosed garage at grade level which can also be used as a workshop. They also desire a flex space with a bathroom at grade level which could be used as a home office, guest room, or extra bedroom. The hallway on grade level should cause minimal disturbance when passing through.
Pages 15-22 are my personal interpretation of this space and covers a floor plan, a selected color palette and mood board, elevation drawings, and lighting plans.

12 Part Color Wheel
For this residential project, we were challenged to hand paint our very own 12-part color wheel. We were to first identify our primary colors of red, yellow, and blue, and then mix these accordingly to create paint chips that correspond with the secondary colors of orange, green, and purrple.
These colors were then mixed to make tertiary colors, with the result being 36 paint chips effectively showing a range of hues across the color wheel.
Pure color
Hue
The color palette of yellow, yellowgreen, green-yellow, and green will dominate this residential space and lend a hand in providing a warm-but-cheery atmosphere.
Pops of complementary purple and blue-purple will be used as accents (ex. couch cushions or rugs) while simultaneously completing a secondary analogous color palette beginning from green.

Kitchen 3D Elevation
The kitchen possesses a U-shaped floor plan that is divided by a moving wooden island. The color palette and themes are well-exemplified by the kitchen - green tile backsplash is placed behind the sink and wooden skin cabinets maintain the warm, homey feeling this space is meant to provide.
Though the depicted drawing shows a solid west wall, a gap between the stove and the ceiling was intended in order to provide a peekaboo into the dining area, thus opening up the space rather than closing it off to the rest of the living area.
Wall cabinets and shelving clear off counter space and cause the ceiling to appear taller than it's 9', while the wooden floors that continue into both the dining room and the living area allow for increased flow within the space.

Guest Bathroom 3D Elevation
A simple rectangular 14' , 5' space, the lower level guest bathroom houses a bathtub on the east side of the room and a toilet on the west. The vanity is placed on the north wall and is the first thing a person sees when they walk into the restroom. Hiding the toilet gives the space a cleaner feel, which is further amplified by the selection of white ceramic for appliances and matte black countertops.

The Ambiance of Home:
Our final assignment regarding this residential project was to create a Reflecting Ceiling Plan (RCP) that allowed readers to understand how lighting was to be used throughout the space. Drafted in 1/4 scale, we were instructed to locate lighting sources throughout the house and use common lighting symbols to reflect their locations. A key was drafted once these symbols were selected which tells the readers the particularities of each symbol.
Lower Level Lighting Plan
As a personal touch, I drafted a secondary lighting floor place that blocked out my lighting choices throughout the home and effectively shows viewers my approach to creating a warm and homey ambiance. In most situations, I chose either halogen or incandescent lighting, which is of a lower kelvin and produces warmer light. Light of this type was placed in spaces such as the suite, upper living area, and dining area. Cooler, though far from truly, blue fluorescents were used in spaces where one may need brighter lights such as the garage and lower level level bathroom.
