is an ideal representation of identity. It’s like the picture is carving out the person’s identity; for example, the performer, Stormzy, is holding the mic and the expression on his face is bringing his identity to life as he’s rapping. It is clear that performing is a large factor of his identity and the cup in his hand displays the more social side to his identity. Finally, I love the way the photo is taken on a film camera creating a more grainy vintage effect so therefore I will shoot some photos using film and explore various people’s identity the way Vicky Grout has here. I
chose this picture as it is simple yet also very powerful. Identity is shown in the persons clothing and surroundings, however, it is in black and white. I like this because the effect removes the colour aspect and still there remains a strong sense of identity. I also like the perspective it’s shot from and would like to explore these angles. In addition, I would like to explore style as a feature of identity.

picture because the person’s identity is very clear because of the background and what she is wearing. Clothes are a large part of identity so I wanted to explore this idea and take pictures of people in the way they dress. I also like the angle of the picture and the sharpness of the focus; this inspired me to shoot in this kind of way.
o
verall, I am pleased with the
outcome of my pictures because they represent the look I wanted to achieve using film and digital. Although some pictures weren’t perfect I think they show a good concept of identity. The first pictures in the digital section and analogue are inspired by fashion and how fashion affects people’s identity. These pictures were taken in very minimalistic areas with the two models wearing matching and contrasting clothes that they like to wear.
The second lot of pictures are inspired by Vicky Grout and these pictures show rapping and singing in a way that it is part of the artist’s identity. These pictures were fun to take because you can see the picture coming to life and you can feel what it was like to be there. The emotion of the words the model is rapping comes out in the picture through her facial features.

TASNEEM.17 “Rapping is a passion of mine I discovered not too long ago. I like to rap about what is the injustice of the world and what I believe to be right and wrong. One of my main inspirations is Kendrick Lamar and I have even done a few lyrics over his beats previously. For 2 years I have been given the opportunity to rap at rapademic at the junction in Cambridge. I hope to be a rapper when I’m older as it’s all I think about

IMPROVEMENTS
My main improvement was finding my pictures on other
Resources other than Instagram Therefore, for my second shoot I found all my inspirations on Pinterest.
INSPIRATION Found: Pinterest I am very interested in these pictures as I like the colours and simplicity in them. I also like the use of double exposures in the first picture and all these elements I’d like to explore in the studio. I would like to use a digital camera like in these pictures as I haven’t really explored many uses of digital camera; mainly film. These pictures link nicely with identity as well because they are very simple with their facial features very prominent. The photographers used a small depth of field (f5.6) to create a nice portrait photo.
INSPIRATION New Black and White Surrealist SelfPortraits by Noell Osvaldo Found: Pinterest
I
chose this first
photo because it is very contrasting to the first shoot I did and it is almost ‘stripping’ the identity away. This idea adds a different layer to my project and is seen as a deeper identity to a person without being
Glamorised. I like the black and white filter as it strips the identity and also, sharpens the look of the photo, yet, grainy effect really brings out the photo and I would like to incorporate this into my second shoot. There is an intermediate depth of field as her whole body is in focus and a fast shutter speed; this creates an effective, sharp image. I also like the three pictures how they are different yet link between each other and would like to explore this.
TATE
TATE & SOUTH BANK I decided to add these photographs to my project because the Tate pictures represent identity in a location as these are pictures of people doing what they love to do in their locations. For example the skater above travelled on the tube every day the Southbank so he could skate there because that’s what he loves to do and he loved that location. I felt like my project didn’t have enough hobby based identities so this fitted in perfectly.

JESSIE.17 “I am quite confident in myself, and feel comfortable with my individuality. I don't like to conform with highstreet fashion as I prefer to wear what I feel represents my personality, so I wear a lot of vintage clothing. I think you should always be comfortable in what you are wearing and it is important to be yourself as opposed to fitting in with everyone else. If I want to, I'll wear tracksuits because they're comfortable, not necessarily because they look nice. I think that's

much more important.
TOM.17 “When I dress myself I chose clothes that give me a lot of comfort, being comfortable in your clothes is important to me because it’s not only about physical comfort but also about mental comfort as such, you should feel confident in what you’re wearing and not worry about other people’s opinions, wear whatever you like because you want to, not to please others. I try to stay away from end brands because I don’t want to be classed as a “hypebeast”, my favourite fit would be just a pair of Nikes, AF1s or TNs, black trousers with white socks always, stone island crew neck and then my northie because for me that’s a cosy and subtle look, nothing too in your face and “flexing”, it’s low-key and just looks good in my opinion.
”
MOLLY.16 “I
like to go on depop where I gather inspiration from independent clothing shops. I also enjoy charity shop shopping as you can find unique items which you know no one else will have. My style is constantly changing and influenced by the people around me but I strongly believe in comfort over class. If I’m not going out the house you will find me

in trackies.

“Style is a way I express myself. I go for a balance between comfort and trends. I’m starting to wear a lot more red because it’s bold, ambitious and I wear too much monochromatic clothing. I like the statement it creates and the pop of colour. I am probably more of a grey person really, but I aspire to be red.
”
How did you get into fashion?
“I am inspired by large brands, and current trends. I just pick up what’s around and what I am drawn to.

“I guess it’s hard to describe my identity, because it’s an amalgamation of everyone I’m around. I’ve grown into the person I am today from Everyone I’ve met and the situations I’ve been in. I would say I’m quite outgoing and up for anything, so I’ve ended up with traits from all over the place. My friends would describe me as living in the moment, loud and (I’d hope) dunny, whereas someone I’d just met would think of me as shy and probably posh. Overall, I am just a cut and paste bits of whoever

DARCEY.15 “My inspiration is to be a successful dancer, to be confident and comfortable with my physical, mental and financial state and more importantly to be happy. I’d say my fashion sense is comfy and a little edgy, I like clothing that is comfortable and not too over the top. My night-time fashion is well dressed and smart, I like to look well-presented which is more of an opposite of my day time fashion. In the day I’m less girly but when I go out my fashion is more feminine. These pictures are of me in Shoreditch before performing with my dance company at the Richmix at an event called “keep it moving”. In the top left I got distracted by the art along Shoreditch as it was very pretty and nothing like we
