Library Staff The Library is designed to assist you with all areas of your study. Our staff are trained in many areas of literacy and literature, as well as research skills. We all have our own ‘favourite’ areas of the curriculum and parts of our role that we specialise in. Our job is to assist you to find resources that you require, and these resources can come from a variety of sources. Don’t just think ‘books’! Our staff are also trained in finding and using online resources, search engines, blogs etc. Mrs Hayes is here to help you discover effective ways of using the internet to find quality resources. If you get stuck during your Research Project and need some help to find some really good sources of information, come and see Mrs Hayes. Miss Adderley specialises in all of our AV equipment and resources. If you need to borrow a camera or an MP3 recorder, find a ClickView video or a newspaper article, please see Miss Adderley. Miss Patching is our cataloguing guru, so if you are looking for a resource on the shelf and need some help, she is bound to know where it is. Miss Patching is also a bit of a history buff, and can track down some great resources on the web. Ms Haskey is here to assist you with your senior textbooks and can also find some very useful information on the Internet and amongst all of our resources. She will also let you know if you have anything overdue! Of course, you can come and see any of us for all of these things, and for any other help you may need during your time in Year 12. We are always happy to help and if we cannot help you, we will find someone who can!
Role of the Library The Library is a place that you can come and work in during your study lessons or during your break times. The Library is also a nice place to sit when you feel like you need a break from all the study and stress. Come and have a chat to the staff, or sit and relax with a good book or magazine. If we can help in any way, please ask. There have been times in the past where the Library has become too noisy for senior students to study effectively. If this is the case, please let us know, as we are committed to ensuring that you have a Library that provides a positive and effective place within which to study.

Can I borrow AV Equipment? Yes, you can! You have access to things like Digital Cameras, MP3 Recorders, FlipCams etc. These resources are costly; therefore some basic rules apply when borrowing. You MUST have your Student ID Card with you when borrowing. Without this, you will not be able to borrow. There is a very strict time limit on this equipment. This is because we have limited supplies and the resources must be shared equitably. Please see Library Staff to enquire about time limits on the equipment you would like to borrow.
Referencing Referencing can be tricky and with the access that you have to such a wide variety of resources, it is impossible to learn the correct referencing for each type of resource. Fortunately we have access to a great Bibliography Tool called ‘Online Referencing Generator’ or ORG for short. To access the ORG, click on the link on our Library Website or got to www.slasa.asn.au/org/ There is no user name required for access to the ORG, but the password is ‘index’. The ORG will give you examples of in-text citations, as well as providing you with a correct Harvard reference list for your bibliography.

The website can be found at www.blackfriarslibraries.edublogs.org or there is a link on the Blackfriars website at www.bps.sa.edu.au. Just click on our logo The site includes links to a range of online resources and databases as well as a page called ‘Ask a Librarian’. On this page, you can complete an online form if you have a query about a resource or need some assistance and cannot make it into the Library to ask us in person. The form is emailed to Library Staff and one of us will reply as soon as we can. You can also access ‘Oliver’ from the website, which is our Library catalogue.
