HALLYU: Please introduce yourself to our readers! LEEN: Hello. I am Leen. My father used to like actress, Linda Carter from wonder woman. And in hope of him wishing that I will grow up to be like wonder woman, he named me Leen. And to keep up to the expectations, I have been learning all sorts of martial arts since I was five years old utill now. I have a bachelor’s degree in martial arts and have a graduate degree in physical education. Now, I have developed a new form of exercise called ‘Martial Beauty’ which is a combination between martial arts and diet exercises. I became a trainer and an actress. You will see me acting in martial art films. HALLYU: Could you let us know what you are currently working on in Korea? LEEN: This early 2015 I am preparing for the publication of ‘Lynn Diet’. Also, this summer, I will be launching the ‘Lynn bar’ which is an exercise tool which I developed and designed. And also, I have managed to be the main actress in the music video of Brown Eyed Soul and Urban ZAPAKA’s project song ‘Let’s meet again’. HALLYU: Right, HALLYU team was honored to watch you at the set filming for this Music Video. You are very talented! LEEN: It is set to be in released starting February 10th!

HALLYU: You are known to be on top Japanese news, even beating Girls Generation, how do you feel about that? LEEN: No one expected that I will be top of the news. It was a completely unpredictable result. And so it was very surprising and unbelievable for me. Even on top of AKB 48 and Girl’s Generation, it felt like a miracle that I became the top and I remember dully staring at the television screen in disbelief. I felt a mixture of surprise, happiness, thankfulness and fear at the same time as I have been top of the chart for more than six weeks straight. I was very happy but I had many things running through my mind. I am thinking I will do my best in order to show the audience my best. Korean Entertainment & Culture Magazine

HALLYU: Could you provide some insight into your Japanese career? LEEN: In 2014 I was on 2 episodes of a Japanese show called No Plan from the Nikoniko Broadcasting Company where I started letting the world know about myself. Currently in South Korea there is a Japan’s Sankei sports news site which features my pictures and diary, as well as, some advices as a weekly issue, and it will be published as a book in Japan this May. The book will be about my long sports career and a training program which I made. It is called “Martial Beauty’. HALLYU: What are some of the differences between Korean and Japanese industries that you have experienced? LEEN: I have not yet done many activities in Japan yet, I cannot say for sure, but there are a lot of celebrities in Japan who work in sailor uniforms and maid costumes, in a form of Cosplay. As in Korea a cosplay industry is not widely spread. This is one major difference. As I am myself a fan of cosplaying I often wear them in Japan. In Korea such holidays as Halloween are not very popular so I do not get the chance to dress up a lot here. HALLYU: What has made you want to climb only higher and higher in your career? Any inspirations? LEEN: I think I have met my turning point when I saw TOP on a Japanese news. After he became famous, I wanted to be able to do much more than before. HALLYU: What were some of the struggles that you had to face in Japan? LEEN: As I am not yet fluent in Japanese, I often make mistakes. For example instead of the word interesting (omosiroi) I said tasty(oisi-), this encouraged a laugh quite a few times. My wish is to make my Japanese perfect. HALLYU: Was being Korean a problem for your career in Japan or was it helpful? LEEN: I don’t think there is are any problems for Koreans to be active in Japan. Due to the fact that we are not quite good in Japanese, they take better care of us and treat us kindly.

HALLYU: Are there any specific projects you would like to try in Korea? LEEN: As a martial artist I would like to challenge more movies and dramas. I also wish that i would be able to participate in a project such as Tom Raider. HALLYU: Is there any artist that you wish to work with? LEEN: I haven’t yet given much thought about whom I would like to work with, however Korea’s biggest action director Jung Doo-Hong, Japanese action star Shinichi Chiba, and as for China the best action star Jackie Chan would be amazing to work with. HALLYU: Where do you think you find your passion? LEEN: I am very passionate when I get to do what I love. While doing sport, martial arts or acting is when I feel the most passionate. HALLYU: What are your plans for 2015? LEEN: Firstly I wish that this music video shooting will turn out really well. After this I plan to concentrate on my book release. After this I will start promotional activities of my Leen Diet in Korea and Japan. After that I will be participating in Chinese drama and Japanese game OST. So please do look forward to it. HALLYU: Could you please give a final message for HALLYU readers! LEEN: I am very delighted that HALLYU Magazine has decided to introduce me. I will try to live up to everyone’s expectations and beyond. I will also put a lot of effort into my sports actives as well as acting to improve further. Please give me your support! Magazine was honoured to be the only media outlet to be on the set of Brown Eyed Soul and Urban ZAPAKA’s project song Let’s Meet Again Music Video filming at a studio in Seoul. Our team has met the adorable, rising actress Leen, whose interview are featured in our first pages of this issue. HALLYU also was able to witness the handsome actors in action as they took on each scene. Sporting fashion brand FEGGY MIN the three main actors looked dashing. Although, it was difficult, with a team of professionals, and a funny poodle named Mickey, everyone was busy and keeping up the tight schedule of the day.

Starting from 6AM, for the makeup and hair, the team first filmed in the cold morning of January outside scenes. Switching locations to an indoor studio after a small break and set up the team proceeded to film indoor scenes. Producer, Yoori Choi, enthusiastically jumped and exclaimed, “Oh! That’s very cute! Just like that! One more time!” Lets Meet Again filming wrapped up late into the wee hours of the night. Everyone worked very hard and with smiles on their faces cheered. A Night of

Concert Review

Rock with

FT ISLAND The lights faded to black and then a spot light showed member, and FT Island leader, Choi JongHoon sitting in front of an electric piano. The theatre began to fill with the sounds of a piano melody as the other members walked out on stage. Lead singer, Lee HongKi’s voice then began to fill the theatre before the rest of the members joined in on the performance of their song, “Last Love Song”. On January 30, 2015, FT Island filled Club Nokia, a venue located in Downtown Los Angeles with their Primadonnas, some who had begun to line up as early as 6am that morning, and even the night before. With glow sticks and yellow flags in hand, their fans made sure to show the five member band a good time in the City of Angeles. This concert marked their first solo show in LA as well as the end of their FTHX tour. Having been about three years since their last show in the States, Primadonnas were excited to see their favorite group rock out on stage to some of their biggest hits. Not being fluent in English, Lee HongKi invited his friend, Jamil, a local artist, to come translate during the duration of the show. Jamil, though not fluent in Korean, was fluent in Japanese. When speaking in Korean, fellow member Lee JaeJin, would translate in Japanese to Jamil who would then translate to the audience in English. Time and again, the playfull Lee HongKi would speak in jibberish making Jamil, make up his own translations to go along with the fun and games.

Nearly halfway through the show, all of the bands members (Lee HongKi, Choi JongHoon, Lee Jaejin, Choi MinHwan, and Song SeungHyun) gathered near the front of the stage to do their acoustic set. Playing some of my own personal favorites like “I Wish” and “I Hope”, Lee HongKi got the crowd involved by having them sing along with him or for him. What’s always amazing at these shows is seeing people, many non-native Koreans, singing along to their favorite songs with these artists. What else could make you feel more warm and fuzzy as an artist then by having people sing along with you, when they don’t essentially know the language? The night continued as FT Island rocked out to other hits like “Falling Star”, “Shining On” and “Freedom”, and over the entire duration of the concert, thanked all the fans that came out and supported them. At one point Jamil translated that the band did not essentially know how each and every fan came to know of and follow the band, but he thanked us all for all the support over the years. Always wanting to feel closer to the audience, they got their fans involved with each of their performances whether it be dancing or singing along to the music, or squatting down to the floor and jumping up and rocking out when the beat picked up. The two times that I have seen FT Island live on stage were an experience to remember. With Lee HongKi’s amazing vocals, the mad drum skills of Choi MinHwan, Song SeungHyun and Choi Lee jongHoon shredding away on their guitars and Lee JaeJin being a master on the bass, it’s hard to not want to dance and sing along with the band. Never a dull moment in the name of rock.
