tAttoOS Tattoo shops in Korea are illegal, however, that doesn’t stop the youthful generation of flowerboys and sexy ladies from decorating their bodies in a bold, fashionable tattoos.

Hugo Tattooer Seoul @hugotattooer

Tattoos are currently a fashion statement that defines who you are and what kind of style group you belong to. They are no longer with a meaning of true love or friendship, they don’t help with coping a loss or state your jail time reminder. No, in the modern society tattoos are simply to enhance your own beauty and show off to the world your style. Perhaps a few do hold a meaning but not as deep as you would think. Now more visible location are preferred. Arms covered in arrangement of tattoos, not a sleeve but an arrangement. Collar bone is another favorite amongst men and females. It’s just enough sexy and hint of playful. It can be easily hidden or proudly worn at the club. Another hot tattoo trend are lettering or sentences that will glide across your skin in not a perfect symmetrical alignment. Make sure to head over to Sinsa area to spot some beautifully worn tattoos!

On May 29th, I left for South Korea after my study abroad trip in Japan. I was more excited about Korea than anything!! Of course when you are a KPOP and KDrama fan, the only thing you can think of is seeing celebrities! Not only have I been dreaming about this trip since forever, but I also would be finally meeting Hope Nadezhda from Hallyu Magazine!! I was supposed to stay with a friend for the 2 weeks of my duration and that did not happen. I only stayed for one week because of differences. The one person who made me feel welcomed to the country and turned my whole experience around was because of Hope. She made my small dreams and goals of Korea a reality.

I was able to experience going to SBS and attending “The Show.” I was not only a few rows away from Zhoumi and Jiyeon, but I was also able to see FIESTAR walk right by me when they were going into the studio! The artists who performed that evening were: Jonghyun from SHINee, FIESTAR, Road Boyz, April, Oh My Girl, DANA, M.A.P6, Big Brain, B.I.G., Heyne, and Lim Dohyeok. After attending “The Show,” Hope and I went to Gangnam and we met keyboardist Flash Finger from Beat Burger for dinner! It was an amazing time! The following night Hope introduced me to Hongdae!! I immediately fell in love! It is such an artistic and musically driven area! I was also introduced to choreographer JongIn Yun who is known as Sammy. He is a dancer for many KPOP groups that even include Block B and currently XIA!

The last week of my stay Hope had left for Russia, but I was introduced to more incredible people by her friends and Flash Finger. I experienced the Han River, the Joseon Dynasty Tombs, clubs in: Gangnam, Jamsil, and Hongdae; amazing restaurants, Lotte World, amazing underground shopping, Insadong, hiking, museums and galleries. Thank you again Hope for turning my unpleasing beginning experience of Korea to the most extraordinary and unforgettable memories!! I know for a fact I will be going back to Korea soon!!

By now, everyone has heard of the Descendants of the Sun phenomena. The posters are littered everywhere on the internet, parodies have been done, and even an elderly couple from China has replicated the famous poster scene. So, how did this one K-Drama become the next big thing? A bigger question is how could it not? The drama stars Song Joong Ki, an Alpha team military captain who has the face of an angel and Song Hye Kyo, the tough but caring doctor who falls for him. What set this drama apart from the others, is that it wasn’t the conventional lead woman falls in

love with lead male then fights with mother type drama. This K-Drama had plenty of eyecandy for both the men and women watching, had the most amazing soundtrack known to man, plenty of cameos including Yoo Ah In and Lee Kwang-Soo, an unforgettable bromance, and of course SHINee’s Onew. Because of this combination, the drama became a huge hit amongst Koreans, and even was a huge hit in China. It was in fact so big in China, it launched a third Hallyu wave. If that’s not enough of a reason to be called the best, then I don’t know what is.

With the music industry booming around the world, many artists have had to become more creative with how they express themselves. A new line of work that has been emerging is the concept of celebrity DJ. What is a celebrity DJ you ask? This line of work consists of spinning disks, creating mixes, and keeping the party alive through the night and into the early morning hours. These DJ’s have started making names for themselves around the world for their unique style and sound, but now we’re starting to see them appear in KPOP videos and in their own produced music videos. With KPOP expanding vastly into different regions and countries, the competition to be the best and most unique sounding is continuously growing. Companies are having to find new ways to market their materials, and the artist have a never ending battle with new groups debuting every month or so. With DJing in style and in high demand right now, a new pathway could be carved into what consumers watch on their latest music videos. Mega pop group BIGBANG has started turning to DJing at their own concerts in an attempt to bring a new sound to their own music. We usually can see G-Dragon up top spinning records as the other four members perform below. As KPOP continues to grow, fans could only expect to see more of this as time continues. Lets turn and take a look at famous Korean DJ Soda. She has been blowing roofs off ceilings all over Seoul and has now branched out to making her own music videos. Her most recent video has already tallied over 21,000 views in just 5 days. DJ Soda’s music features unique beats which draws in many fans to her concerts and events. Her beauty also drags in the men from around the country. It’s easy to say that she’s made a name for herself, and is proving that women can stand behind turntables. With the ability to dance, produce music, and be beautiful, it’s easy to see how a video could come from this. DJ Soda is one of the most popular DJs in every city’s top club from Seoul, Tokyo, London, New York, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, and Singapore.
