Interview: Siva Group has brought many Korean artist into the states for vaires of shows such as Epik High, CL of 2ne1, AOMG, Dean and Illionaire to name off a few. SIVA Group just passed their year mark in March and held an anniversary party and special guest such as Palaolto and YUNB from Hi-Lite Record label were special guests to kick off the the 3 year anniversary party. SIVA Group has come along way and has progress greatly. I had the honor to sit down an interview Steve Hyun CEO SIVA Group. Questions relating to who is CEO of Siva Group HALLYU Magazine: In one word, describe who is STEVE? Steve: Leader HM: What do you enjoy doing in your free time? Steve: During my free time I enjoy reading, working out, and spending time by the beach. It gives me a sense of freedom. HM: What was your journey like to get where you are? Steve: My journey starting out my career was hard at first because I was new to the industry. However, I always learn that failure is the pillars to success. I understand that failure didn’t mean that I have wasted my time but it was a chance to rebuild something the correct way. I knew I had to network more and build relationships to open up more doors and opportunities for myself and my company. At the end of the day it’s not what you know but who you know. HM: What is your biggest dream in life? Steve: My biggest dream is complete financial freedom as well as helping thousands of others around me have success. HM: Why did you choose the field of kpop/khiphop artists? Steve: I have always loved hip hop music in general while growing up and saw K-HIPHOP music was growing more and more in the states and wanted to expand it into the States.

Steve Hyun SIVA Group CEO Interviewed by Youa Lauj Image&Photo SIVA Group

Questions relating to the company HM: What does SIVA mean/stand for? Steve: SIVA stands for: Solutions Information Value Accessibility HM: What inspired you to start up SIVA Group? Steve: I have been employed for a many years by other companies, till one day I realized that the only thing I was doing was actually building dreams for others instead of my own. I had a steady fixed income each month, that’s great when you start a career, but I’m a dreamer and a visionary. I always knew I was destined for something great. I halted for a second to understand how the world works and it was time for reversing the equation. In the Real World you either be an entrepreneur, or you work for one. My secret recipe of success is: All what I need is discipline, keep daydreaming, thinking outside the box and reading between the lines. I’m not smarter than the rest of the world, but I put much more effort everyday to become a better version of myself. But for every success there is a price, you need to sacrifice something and I did. HM: How did the first project go about? Steve: My first project was a big mess but one of the best learning experiences that I learn. With that I learn from from my first project to make sure not to repeat same mistakes with future events held by SIVA Group HM: What risk were you willing to take when you decided to bring Hallyu wave in a country where it is unfamiliar? Steve: I knew there were going to be risks involved but also knew that someone had to be innovative and lead the movement for K-HIPHOP. I was willing to take risks and knew in the 21st century the greatest risk of all is not taking one.

HM: Korean music is slowly growing in the Western music scene. What would you give any korean music artist who is trying to break into the music scene? Steve: My advice to any Korean artist that would like out there that want to break into the western music scene first get as much exposure as possible, learn from mentors and coaches, improve their social media accounts because in today’s world every big company looks at social media presence and numbers. HM: Did you have any doubts as to how far the company would go? Steve: Never thought it would beas big from the start but all I know is we have so much more to go. We are where we are today because of hard work and dedication but this is just the beginning. HM: What’s the most important thing you’re working on right now, and how are you making it happen? Steve: As we speak I am currently working on a few major projects and also developing the people in my company to better themselves because we represent SIVA group. HM: Where do you see SIVA Group in 5 years? Steve: My dreams and goals for SIVA Group in the next 5 years is to be number 1 entertainment company in the States and to become the next YG entertainment in the States. HM: What does success look like for the company? Steve: Success to my company is to have growth within my employees and people who work with me. The only way we succeed is to help others grow. We plan on working with bigger artists and become a full service agency. HM: What is the biggest risk to the company? Steve: Biggest risk for the company is always trying to stay innovative and leading from the front. Competition will always be there so we always have to work the long hours to not fall behind. HM: What is your vision for the company? Steve: My vision for the company is to become bigger than YG entertainment but from the states. HM: What directions do you plan to take the company in? Steve: The direction that I want to take the company

in is Touring & Marketing company that produces artists. HM: What sets SIVA Group different from other companies in the same field? Steve: Our marketing and network is second to none. We understand its all about the fans and making them happy with our projects/events. We want fans to come out of our shows satisfied with the events. We know nothing works out perfectly, but we strive our best to do the best we can. HM: How do you plan to showcase korean music to the public who are not familiar with korean music? Steve: We plan on incorporating Korean music with other American artists to help it get more exposed so that other people who are not familiar can get familiarize with Korean music. HM: SIVA Group has just reached it 3 year anniversary how does that make you feel? Steve: Hitting 3 years definitely gives me a sense of accomplishment. We know this is just a starting point and can’t wait for the next 30-50 years of business. HM: What’s the biggest competition factor with other us organizers that are bringing the Korean artists? Steve: There will always be competition and I think it’s very healthy. I live by competing but never comparing to others. HM: What is SIVA Group doing in direct contribution to the hallyu/kpop fans in us? Steve: We are creating more awareness in all parts of the US and having programs for people to get training and learn the business. HM: Fans in the states have been struggling recently with being able to afford sudden overflow of Korean concerts, however, they are not giving up and are doing their best to attend the concerts, could you recommend some ways or tips for the fans about what they can do to save up and find travelling & accommodation to make their dreams come true? Steve: I see many kpop fans are young and may not have enough funds to pay for tickets. I would recommend taking on any opportunity working with a company if they are offering jobs or volunteer options. I always took the initiative to learn and network.

DUMBFOUNDEAD in LA What do you do on a Saturday night if Dumbfoundead, a rapper from Los Angeles, is in town on tour? You attend the show and have an awesome time of course. That is exactly what HALLYU Magazine did. Dumdfoundead’s 2017 “We Might Die” North American Tour came through Las Vegas and we were there. The show was attended by a diverse group of fans ready party ranging in age from teenagers to people in their 30’s and older. Dumbfoundead’s longtime friend, DJ Zo, opened the show hyping everyone up for what was to come. During the set Drew Hunnids danced on stage interacting with fans and excited the crowd even more by tossing out Dumdfoundead and Year of the Ox swag. After the set, Year of the Ox - a rap duo from Virginia tore up the stage with Rocking with the OX. After a brief introduction from Lyricks during an instrumental break JL began spitting lyrics and there was no end in sight. With a mug in hand full of honey water, Lyricks did not get left behind. Before the 4th song of their set, the guys took a breather and engaged with the crowd. They shared stories of the glorious tour life traveling from one tour stop to another stuck in a 12 passenger van with multiple male companions. Lyricks continued to release fire

every time he opened his mouth. It was a sight to see as the rappers interacted with the crowd once again throwing heart signs with their fingers reciprocating the love being given. The rappers closed their set strong with their 2016 hit Seven Rings. The crowd was sad to see them leave but that meant that Dumbfoundead would be moments away from gracing the stage. If you had your back to the stage, you would’ve have known that Dumbfoundead had found his spot on stage as the cheering reached new heights for the night. The crowd was no stranger to who was on stage and even held up placards with the rapper’s Korean name welcoming him. Harambe was the opening song for Dumbfoundead’s stage. After every few songs the rapper would take time to converse with the crowd and found that many in attendance were long time fans of his – for every song that was performed on stage, the crowd would sing along. He shared how he grew up in Los Angeles and had many Mexican friends and sung, Cochino, dedicating it to the Latinas in attendance that night. As he shared that it was his birthday week, he found that many of his younger fans were in the crowd, but he decided to throw it way back and sang Cell Phone. Year of the Ox joined Dumbfoundead on stage and performed Genghis Khan, Ancestors, and KKB (Kai Bai Bo) after teaching the crowd how to say

“Rock, Papers, Scissors” in Korean. The set continued with several more songs with Year of the OX supporting Dumbfoundead echoing lyrics of each song. The show closed as DJ ZO joined the guys on stage for the last song, but that was not enough to appease the crowd and they took to the stage again with Banned as an encore performance. After the show, Year of the Ox and Dumfoundead greeted, signed autographs and posed for pictures with all the fans before they left. So if the next time you are looking for something to do and Dumbfoundead is in town, go and enjoy his show. It will be full of the old school hip hop feels from the 90’s with lyrics in the songs containing his roots as several languages (English, Korean, and Spanish) are intertwined. You will not be disappointed.
