It’s really exciting when you get to experience something international while living abroad. In Korea, most events are in korean, for obvious reasons, however; it’s also really great to be able to watch or attend something in your native language! In November, I decided to take a day trip to Daegu to see The Lion King, which is considered the biggest broadway musical in the United States.
it just in time, and bolted for my seat. The show is special to me because I saw it on broadway ten years ago, and it is the very first musical I have ever seen. Just being able to see it again in a country I consider my second home means a lot to me. I highly recommend that one watches it, whether it be in New York City, or in one of the three cities where it will be at in South Korea (Daegu, Seoul, then Busan).
I started my day early, and took the train to Daegu. It was only a day trip, because it’s so close to where I live, which is Busan (about an hour’s ride). I have a couple friends who live in Daegu. We met up for lunch and had delicous 닭갈비 (dak-galbi), which is spicy stir-fried chicken). After eating, I quickly made my way to the venue as I was running a little late. I made
As an expat, I am really proud to have seen how big a turnout it was in terms of Koreans attending. The show is in English, but there are korean subtitles. I was a little nervous about its popularity, but again, there were many people in attendance. The musical was very nostalgic for me, and if you go and watch it, I wish the same for you.
