HallyuPopFest opened to much fanfare, being the few music festivals to bring a full legion of Korean artistes, from veterans like Super Junior and Hyolyn to the new blood such as GWSN and TREI. I’m personally someone who dislikes music festivals due to the lack of focus on an artiste and the fact that I may not know some of the junior
performers as well, but HallyuPopFest 2019 was somehow one of the best Korean music festivals I went to - The performances simply somehow transitioned into one another well. All and all, over the two days period for the festival, HallyuPopFest 2019 was something I would start to reminisce about and hope for that will be another in 2020.

n May 4, 2019 in Düsseldorf took place the KPOP BIG5 Concert in the hall of Mitsubishi Electric Halle. This event was organized by NET Entertainment and Donuts Music N which together created KPOP BIG CONCERT (KBC). It was an event that brought together KARD, ASTRO, EXID, AILEE, & STRAYKIDS . For more than two hours, the artists performed on key songs from their discographies while placing the audience in a sensational atmosphere. On this day, the lucky ones were able to meet their favorite artists through Meet & Greet called Five & Live, including Hi-Touch accesses and Group Photos. In these packages were also included posters with printed autographs and photocards of the artists. Each group offered a performance of 5 songs for an average duration of 20 to 30 minutes per passage. They exchanged with fans from all over Germany and Europe, even from around the world. It was a concert similar to Music Bank or KCON. A concert gathering several groups on the same stage. This type of event is very popular worldwide because it allows fans to enjoy and discover several artists
throughout an evening. Before each stage, the artists were introduced with a short video. The concert began with the mixed group KARD from DSP Media including members BM, Jiwoo, Somin and J.Seph. They took possession of the stage with their energetic and elegant choreographies that motivated the public from the first minute of the show. Indeed, they started performing on Oh NaNa and Hola Hola. During the presentations the members exchanged with the fans in several languages, it was an exchange full of humor and adorable. They continued to perform on Don’t Recall, Ride On The Wind and Bomb Bomb. The leader BM started a game with the audience, the left side had to sing louder than the right side to see the t-shirt thrown on their side. The group ASTRO of Fantagio followed with members MoonBin, MJ, JinJin, Rocky and SanHa. Unfortunately due to his schedule the member EunWoo could not be present but the group was able to fill his gap perfectly. They started with All Night, Love Wheel and Crazy Sexy Cool. For the presentation, they changed the group greeting in German “Hallo, wir sind Astro” which mean “Hello, we are Astro”. Each member added a few
words of German. They were very noticed by the public especially through their slow songs that touched the whole room. The audience enjoyed singing with them on the exchanges. They finished on I’ll be there and Confession. The third group to perform was EXID from Banana Culture. The 5 members - LE, Jeonghwa, Hyelin, Hani, and Solji were reunited for their comeback since the single I Love U. This is probably why they choose to perform I Love U and DDD first. Unfortunately, LE had hurt her ankle and couldn’t dance during the choreographies. This didn’t’ prevent the group to fully resume their dances at 4, as during Solji’s hiatus. EXID announced their return with a mini album: WE, released May 15. They thanked their fans in the room for continuing to support them. We also learned that two members decided to leave their agency, it is Hani and Jeonghwa but they kept to remember that they will always be together and that they will find a way to perform again as group for their fans. After their speeches, they performed on L.I.E, Hot Pink, Up&Down. Ailee appeared on stage, great singer and performer of YMC Entertainment. She has sung her most popular titles, like U&I . As a reminder, the singer decided to leave her agency to launch on his own, this evening showed her all the love that her fans can have. The room was entirely lit with phone flashes during I Will Go To You Like The First Snow (Goblin OST), but also full of support during the exchanges on I Will Always Love You by Whitney Houston and I Will Show You. She
specifically dedicated this last song and Don’t Touch Me to women around the world. She made the audience sing with her and lastly sang on Atmosphere (Juncoco X Advanced). Finally, STRAYKIDS of JYP Entertainment closed the evening with the members Bang Chan, WooJin, Lee Know, Changbin, HyunJin, HAN, Felix, SeungMin, and IN . It is certainly the most anticipated group of this show and as soon as they arrived on stage they are cheered by the whole room. Their choreographies are picked up by the audience and everyone started to sing. They started with MIROH, Hellevator and District 9. Their performances are perfect, the group has shown all his talent and connect with their fans. During their talks, they introduced themselves in German and tried some aegyeo to the pleasure of the audience. They finished their stage with My Pace and YAYAYA. The fans spent a great night, each artist showed his love and talent to the fans by bringing a touch of happiness and wonder. The audience was able to respond by singing the songs and participating in the famous exchange talks between fans and artists. The overall atmosphere was exceptional. All the artists expressed their joys of being on stage and announced their intentions to come back. Astro, Ailee, and Stray Kids are preparing their respective European tours. Feel free to follow the news of these fabulous and talented artists. Finally, small end-of-performance gifts: Each group has signed T-shirts that they have randomly launched through the pit for the delight of some lucky fans.

The concert began with a VCR in which Hyolyn is highlighted to warm the room before the beginning of “Paradise”. Accompanied by 2 dancers, Hyolyn began with a “hello Paris” which delighted the room. From “Dope”, she made her fans more dynamic by asking them to clap their hands. “Hello Paris, how are you?” in French to make the audience happy. She shared that she is happy to be here and thanked her audience for coming and hoping that everyone will leave with good memories. Her fans accompanied her during her singing and clapped hands to best support Hyolyn. She explained that she is happy to have heard the voices of the public and have her nervousness disappear. She continued with “Lonely”, taken from her first solo album of 2013, raising cries of joy in the room that applauded her performance! Hyolyn continued her concert without a hitch on his dynamic music while jiggling in front of the phones of the first ranks. After a few songs, the performer announced that the concert will contain songs from her former band, SISTAR. She had the audience repeat on “Ma Boy” and the festive “Touch My Body”. Fans played the game during performances and accompanied Hyolyn jumping and singing. She shared that she will continue with ballads, the first being “Goodbye”, used for the OST of
the drama “You Who Came From the Stars”. The time of a new VCR, Hyolyn presented sessions of learning choreography, clip recording or thoughts that pass through it. After the overexcited performance of “Dally”, the singer takes up again by recounting her experience of composing and learning choreography in the United States. For “Havana” by Camila Cabello, Hyolyn returns with a hat for a more original scene. After the performance, she explained that she is tired and that she will not forget that everyone came despite the heat. With “BAE”, the concert relaunched in a joyous way causing cheers among the fans who start from “popopololopopo”. She shared several “thank you” saying that she received a very nice gift from the fans. She launched into “youknowbetter” for which the public raised banners. The end of the song raised the public’s cries and Hyolyn shared that she is moved by her fans’ present in the room. “SEE SEA” launched the conclusion of the show in a lively and playful way. For “Love Like This” featuring Dok2, she returned wearing the t-shirt of the tour to also take a picture with the French public. During the end talk, Hyolyn left the microphone to her dancers so they can also thank the fans. The singer promised to return to Paris before finishing the concert with the dynamic “Bang bang” to dance one last time for her audience. During the whole show, Hyolyn did not fail to remind us that she is a talented singer through beautiful vocals.

Seoul Botanic Park Seoul’s first botanical park, Seoul Botanic Park, will officially open its doors on May 1 after concluding its trial operation. All zones of the greenhouse (Tropical and Mediterranean Zones) that were closed for two months from March 2019 due to inside supplementation will be open to the public starting at 9:30 a.m. on May 1. The “Marsh Park,” one of the four sections of the garden (Forest Field, Botanic Garden, Lake Garden, Wetland), that was previously closed due to preparatory work will open on the same day, allowing for full use of the entire 504,000 sqm area. The garden’s currently-owned 3,100 types of plants will be expanded to 8,000 types to actively collect plants and actively promote institutional exchange, research, and propagation with the goal of becoming Korea’s representative city-type botanical garden. The greenhouse will feature the Victoria lily that was first discovered by the Amazon River, a wild tree that grows in Queensland, Australia, an olive tree brought in from Spain, and other rare plants that are difficult to find in Korea and that are also in line with the exhibition concept of plants from twelve cities around the world.
Seoul Botanic Park is a “Botanical Garden + Park” within a space that is the first to be introduced in the country under the concept of an organic fusion of “park” and “botanical garden.” The four spaces of the garden include the Forest Field, Botanic Garden, Lake Garden, and Wetland. Starting from the opening day on May 1, the Theme Garden will be in operation from 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. for a small fee, and the park areas (Forest Field, Lake Garden, Wetland) will be open yearround (24 hours) at no charge. The Botanic Garden can be accessed at KRW 5,000 for adults, KRW 3,000 for teens, and KRW 2,000 for children. Through Seoul Botanic Park, the city plans to develop plant culture, take the lead in plant diversification research, establish a citizenparticipatory park culture, and realize the value of a growing botanical garden. General botanical gardens aim for plant research and preservation, but Seoul Botanic Park considers the improvement of plant culture in citizens’ lives as an important project and plans to focus on providing citizens various experiences related to plants.

of the festival, where local products and handicrafts are sold and contests, games and circus performances take place.
FESTIVAL
The four-week long festival begins with the brewing of a sacred liquor and the Dano shamanistic rituals, in which a central role is played by a sacred tree, the sinmok, and the hwagae, a ritual object made of feathers, bells and bamboo wood. One of the specific features of the festival is the coexistence of Confucian, shamanistic and Buddhist rituals. Through the rituals devoted to the deities, the region is believed to remain unaffected by natural disasters, allowing all its residents to live in peace and prosperity. Every year, a large number of visitors attend the various ritual performances and actively participate in events such as making Danoje festival fans, brewing the sacred liquor, drawing masks for the Gwanno Mask Drama, preparing and eating Surichiwi rice crackers and washing their hair in Iris water.

Bokbunja (Korean Wild Black Raspberry) is said to clean the blood and be good for the kidneys. Since the berries contain high levels of estrogen, they are popular with women who plan to have a child or women who reach menopause. Visitors to the bokbunja and watermelon festival will have an opportunity to do more than listen to local legends and economic statistics by picking some of the berries with their own hands. While few farmers open their bokbunja fields to outsiders, who often don’t know the proper way to pick and end up damaging the trees, there are still places where visitors can get their fingers stained. During the three days of the festival, a variety of activities are available. For instance, about 100 servings of hwachae, traditional Korean fruit punches, with watermelons will be served, along with other bokbunjabased snacks and foods, from rice cakes to chocolates.
