Rescheduled World Tour Due to the pandemic that is currently happening across the globe, Big Hit Entertainment has announced that the North American leg of BTS’s 2020 Map of the Soul world tour has been rescheduled. The tour, a tie-in to their chart-topping Map of the Soul: 7 album, was set to come to multiple cities across the continent beginning in April. “We are closely monitoring and following the guidance of all local governments

regarding public events to ensure we are providing a safe environment for everyone involved as we continue to update our tour plans,” said Big Hit.

Break the Silence Docuseries In the meantime, fans can whet their appetites with the Break the Silence docuseries which will premiere May 12 exclusively on the WeVerse app and is available to preorder now. Armies might not get to catch the superstar

boy band on the road this summer, but they can revisit some of the group’s extravagant performances in the forthcoming docuseries. The docuseries tracks BTS’s 2018 Love Yourself World Tour and its 2019 extension, the Love Yourself: Speak Yourself Tour. The former saw BTS headline arenas around the globe, and they graduated to sold-out stadiums on the latter. The Love Yourself World Tour and Love Yourself: Speak Yourself Tour were career-

defining endeavors for BTS that further cemented their status as not just the biggest Korean pop group of the moment, but one of the biggest pop artists in the world. Appropriately, the Break the Silence trailer promises plenty of spectacular live footage from the gigantic concerts; watching the band members simply gaze across the empty venues before showtime is a wonder to behold. But Break the Silence also teases footage of the band members goofing off backstage, sharing vulnerable moments with each other and marveling at their own stature.

Preparing for a New Album

A new album from BTS is in the works, member RM announced on April 17 during a YouTube livestream. Part of a livestream series that RM says the members are trying out, aiming to show off part of their lives each week, the rappersongwriter used the opportunity to reveal BTS are working on a new album. “I’m sure many of you have guessed by now, but we’re going to be releasing another album,” he reportedly said, adding later that he’s unsure when it will be released. “We’ve begun preparing for it. We’re going to be sharing that preparation process with you. No details have been decided as of now, we’ve only just started talking about it. That we’re going to be creating something new. We’re going to work hard to do that.” RM’s livestream on BTS’s BANGTANTV YouTube channel is set to be the first in a series featuring the members of the act showing off their day-to-day lives as people across the world are kept

apart in the efforts to halt the spread of the coronavirus. The video fittingly featured the motivational hashtags “StayConnected” and “CarryOn” in its description, as the BTS members seek a new way to connect with fans while the global COVID-19 pandemic keeps people apart and puts a halt to live music events, including cancellations and postponements of many of the act’s Map of the Soul tour dates. The forthcoming, in-the-works album will be BTS’s first since Map of the Soul: 7, released in February. That album, fronted by singles “ON” and “Black Swan,” topped charts around the world, and went on to become the act’s best-selling album with over 4.17 million copies sold. The septet was recently recognized by South Korea’s Gaon Chart as the best-selling group from that country of all time, selling over 20 million combined albums since starting their career as BTS in 2013. Any upcoming album from BTS is expected to sell similarly well, and continue to lead to historic record-breaking achievements from the act.

Joining the Youtube Virtual Graduation Ceremony On May 5, YouTube shared that it will be hosting a virtual graduation ceremony titled “Dear Class of 2020.” Commencement speeches will be delivered by former President Barack Obama, Michelle Obama, BTS, Lady Gaga, former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, former Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates, Alphabet and Google CEO Sundar Pichai, and activist Malala Yousafzai. Variety describes the event as being carried out festival-style, with a mix of performances and talks that address traditional graduation-day themes. BTS and others will be performing at a virtual after-party. In addition, there will also be special appearances by Alicia Keys, Kelly Rowland, Kerry Washington, Chloe x Halle, Zendaya, and YouTubers Jackie Aina, AsapSCIENCE, Dude Perfect, Mr. Kate, and The Try Guys. The event premieres on the YouTube Originals channel and YouTube’s Learn@Home site on Saturday, June 6 at 12 p.m. PST.

THE KING ETERNAL MONARCH

yet to impress viewers By Dong Sun-hwa | https://www.koreatimes.co.kr/

S

BS’s romantic fantasy “The King: Eternal Monarch,” starring Lee Minho and Kim Go-eun, has been one of the year’s most anticipated TV series, but is yet to impress viewers. The first episode on April 17 scored 11.4 percent viewership, but the rating has been falling since, apart from a slight rebound on Saturday to 9.7 percent. The 16-part drama, set in a “parallel universe,” is a romantic story about two people

living in different “worlds.” Lee Min-ho plays Lee Gon, an imaginary Korean Emperor who tries to fight against evil, and Kim Go-eun appears as detective Jung Tae-eul. The series has been the talk of the town from the beginning because it was to be penned by star writer Kim Eun-sook. She was behind the success of hit soap operas including “Descendants of the Sun (2016)”, “Guardian: The Lonely and Great God (2016)” and “Mr. Sunshine (2018).” Most of her creations posted record viewership here and gained

massive popularity in Asia, propelling actors such as Song Joong-ki to stardom. People’s expectations for her latest offering reached a peak when two high-profile actors were revealed for the lead roles. The show is Lee Min-ho’s first drama since he was discharged from the military last April. But “The King: Eternal Monarch” is struggling. Numerous viewers point out that its storyline is hard to grasp and that the overall directing lacks proficiency.

“It was difficult for me to understand the plot without having previous knowledge about a ‘parallel universe,’” a viewer commented. Another wrote, “It seems the scenes are not connected to each other.” Some people also claim the script is making them cringe, while others said the acting was not subtle enough. “I cannot really get immersed in the series and empathize with the characters,” a viewer said.

DANIEL

HENNEY

on his role for the upcoming series “The Wheel of Time”

What are the similarities between you and Lan? It’s kinda hard because Lan is arguably one of the most badass character in the fancy world. But I suppose he tames beasts like I have. I mean simply, he’s very loyal, very protective, very task oriented, he values duty very much, and I think he’s such a very good man. I’d like to consider myself somewhere in that realm. I’m very protective of my loved ones. I try to take care of people around me as much possible and guide them the right way. I’m very loyal in friendship and other relationships.

What’s the most challenging aspect of playing Lan? The unrelenting physicality of the character. This is the first time in my life where I had this sort of fear - not fear of playing him, but fear of whether I can pull it off. The physicality, the action, what they’re asking of me. But we did, and I’m very happy with how it

turned out. It’s just a testament to the level of talent the stunt team has and the amount of time that we’ve been given to practice. It’s been such an experience for me. Really just surpassing my expectations, even of myself. It’s been really wonderful!

Can you talk about the sets a little bit? I can’t talk about much, you’ll have to wait and it’ll be worth it. What I can is that I’ve never before in my life seen sets like these. It is incredible. It’s like everything you’ve ever dreamed of, as an actor. As a fan of these books, I can only imagine what it would be like to see these sets. Numerous of times I’ve heard on our sets that the sets we have in Wheel of Time are just incomparable - the best they have seen. They are fantastic. And I will be going back to Prague as soon as the doors open back up. We’re heading back to finish this up - we don’t know when, but we’re all ready to go. And we’re keeping in touch. We’ll be back there ASAP.
