LAY ZHANG RELEASES NEW MUSIC

Multi-platinum and award-winning pop sensation delivers new cross-cultural urban sound

I

nternational phenomenon and China’s top idol LAY (Lay Zhang) releases his new music video and EP, LIT, today by Zhang Yixing Studio. LIT is a twopart release featuring six songs each. All twelve songs on the EP are co-written by LAY himself, who personally co-produced every track, ensuring his message and story is clearly instilled in each song. LAY worked with producer heavyweight Murda Beatz (Travis Scott, Gucci Mane, Drake) on the EP. The new project strongly holds a backbone in modern hiphop with an enjoyable sound, never done before. For this first part of the album, the hit-making team integrated familiar

Chinese instruments and cultural metaphors with the soul of “Western music” and top-notch modern production techniques, mixing English and Mandarin lyrics in every song. The EP instantly grabs your attention from beginning to end. Each song has a rhythmic flow, entrancing vocals, and bassheavy beats delving into the new “pop meets urban” sound. 莲 translated into English is lotus. As a play on words, LIT sounds almost similar to 莲(lian)。Lotuses are a cultural icon recognized as something that “grows and blossoms from dirt/ mud”. This paints a perfect metaphor of LAY’s album; firstly, the duality of a twopart release, and secondly it represents a new birth

plus a new sound in the midst of all his past achievements. Through the tunes, LAY explores the concepts of solitude, arrogance, self-confidence, loyalty, resolution and courage. These six songs blend very ancient musical elements and concepts with the modernity of contemporary pop. From the lyrics, to the production, be prepared for an emotional and auditory journey. The focus track for the EP is the booming anthem and title song LIT and the already released hit song, Jade, showcases a combination of traditional “peking opera” and Chinese instruments. The cuttingedge production for songs like Eagle, H20, Fly, and Soul will give you an extremely refreshing journey through passionate lyrics showing a whole new blend of music.

LAY received tremendous success this year garnering international attention after joining forces with Steve Aoki and will.i.am for the hit cross-cultural collaboration Love You More, reaching #1 on the QQ Music China chart. He became a household name in Asia and one of the most beloved stars in the region with a loyal 49 million followers on Weibo and over 11.8 million followers on Instagram. As a solo artist, LAY’s career has skyrocketed from tremendous success becoming the highestranked Mandopop star on Billboard 200 chart and the first Chinese artist to enter the iTunes Top 60 in the US with his third album NAMANANA. Outside of music, he is a powerhouse in the acting world of TV and film and hosted multiple toprated reality shows in Asia. on China’s

Running Man is a South Korean variety show, forming part of SBS’ Good Sunday lineup. It was first aired on July 11, 2010. Running Man was originally classified as an “urban action variety”; a genre of variety shows in an urban environment. The MCs and guests were to complete missions at a landmark to win the race. The show has since shifted to a more familiar reality-variety show concept focused on games. It has garnered attention as being the comeback program for Yoo Jae-suk, the main MC of the program, after leaving Good Sunday’s Family Outing in February 2010. The show has become popular in other parts of Asia, and has gained online popularity among Hallyu fans, having been fansubbed into various languages, such as English, Persian, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Italian, Thai, Vietnamese, Chinese, Malay, Indonesian, Burmese, Arabic, Russian, and Turkish. The show has made it to the list of Business Insider’s 20 TV Shows of 2016.

CURRENT CAST YOO JAE SUK The main host of the show, who is known for his escaping abilities and quick thinking during race missions. As a main host, he has been featured as a protagonist in many special episodes, which presented him with a nickname of Yoo-mes Bond. He is shown to have a close relationship with a lot of the guests on the show, which he often boasts about to the other members. He is also often referenced to the color green throughout the show and is also known for his nickname “Grasshopper” from his first television appearances. He becomes one of the most capable players in the series, and is, along with Kim Jong-kook, considered to be one of the two main powers in the race missions.

HAHA The primary joker of the cast and is usually picked on by other members because of his height and his similar appearance to Pororo the Little Penguin. In the earliest episodes of the program, Haha had a tendency to feel as though he is the main lead in a movie created by his imagination, as well as be the playboy of the cast, as he always confesses his love to female guests. When things don’t go his way, he lashes out verbally, causing great laughter among the cast. However, this ended when he became engaged to singer Byul, changing to a “married man” and becoming very rough to female guests. He was one of the weakest player during the race missions, occasionally being picked on even while on the chasing team.

EPISODE 504

CURRENT CAST

At the crossroads of choice: Too much Dilemma

kim jong kook

The strongest member of the cast, Kim Jongkook is known for his strength and skill during the race missions. During the missions, he is known for his sudden appearances that are often accompanied by the soundbite “This is Sparta! taken from the movie 300. His smart tactics are often successful to eliminate the other members and as a result, he is known for having both brains and brawn. He is also shown at times to show off his aegyo. His only apparent weakness is women and he is often teased for having a particular fondness towards Yoon Eun-hye.

LEE KWANG SOO The tallest member of the cast, initially introduced alongside Gary and Song Joong-ki as one of the “variety rookies” due to his lack of experience on variety shows prior to Running Man. During the earlier episodes, he was known for framing his fellow members with embarrassing and often absurd rumors. He is often picked on by the rest of the cast, particularly Kim Jong-kook, due to his timid nature.

He is one of the weakest players, often the first to be eliminated during race missions. However, he has grown to easily betray his fellow members without hesitation. He is also known to be one of the most unluckiest and most penalized member, having earned the worst results in nearly every luck-based missions. It was revealed that he is one of the most popular members and earned a great reputation in various regions of Asia through the series, which left the others in shock. He gained the nickname “Prince of Asia” from this.

EPISODE 505

Eliminating Intruders: The Secret of the tradition village

song ji hyo

The bravest and luckiest member of the show, who initially only appeared as a guest, but was added to the main cast in episode 6. During the earlier episodes, Song Ji-hyo was often known to swear during broadcasts especially towards Haha and Lee Kwang-soo. She is often seen with confused or blank facial expressions most of the time. Throughout the series, she has been involved in the official loveline of the show alongside Gary. She is one of the strongest players during race missions with similar running, catching capabilities and intelligence comparable to Yoo Jae-suk and Kim Jong-kook, though lacking in quiz missions. She is also known as the female version of Yoo Jaesuk and Kim Jong-kook which is noticed by Lee Kwang-soo on ep 177. As the show occasionally hands out gold as the prize for winning the final mission, she is known to have always won it.

One of the youngest members of the show, who initially appeared as a guest for a couple of episodes. He was officially added to the main cast since episode 346. Since becoming a member, he quickly becomes a member of the unlucky group along with Yoo Jaesuk, Ji Suk-jin and Lee Kwang-soo. He is also referred as the #8, in terms of appearance. He replace Kwang-soo’s role as Jongkook’s lackey, and become his favourite person, accidentally making Kwang-soo fury and became abandoned.

YANG SE CHAN

The oldest member of the show and one of Yoo Jaesuk’s closest friends, having known each other for more than 20 years. He is shown to be jealous of the good relationship between Yoo Jae-suk and Kim Jong-kook. Dubbed the “Race Starter” during the race missions, he is shown to be one of the weakest members and is the most frequently eliminated, so easily that the other members would declare that the race has officially started after his elimination. He’s even dubbed as the group’s “black hole” because of this. He is also the most gullible among the cast, as he gets easily tricked, particularly towards business investments, though he is also sometimes portrayed to be smart, particularly towards Korean history.

JI SEOK JIN JEON SO MIN One of the youngest members of the show, who initially appeared as a guest for a couple of episodes. She was officially added to the main cast since episode 346. She has a capability to hold steel objects on her body like a magnet. She is known as the female version of Lee Kwang-soo and Haha because of her betraying other members, cheating and becoming a moth which is the same with Lee Kwang-soo and Haha. So Min is considered the new player of the cast after taking on the role from Kwang Soo, often getting flustered around handsome male guests, though the other members frequently tease her by pairing her with Se Chan. She becomes scary when money gets involved.

Summer Park Destinations Information from http://english.visitkorea.or.kr/

HANGANG PARKS Running from the east to west of Seoul, Hangang River is a popular attraction among Koreans, and even if you don’t make explicit plans to visit the river, you’ll definitely see it when touring Seoul. A total of 11 parks were formed along the Hangang River, and every summer, the parks host unique events and a variety of performances. From day to night, there are seemingly endless things to see or do here.

Ttukseom Hangang Park was a famous resort site even before its rebirth as part of the greater Hangang Park. The park consists of various amenities: music fountains, a riverside square, a rose garden, playground, and a nature learning center. Overlooking Hangang River, the Riverside Square is the venue for diverse cultural events and performances. Using a technology that bounces light off of the water called the “water screen” (installed on the main stage in the square), movies or cartoon shows are available to the audience from 20:00 to 22:00 during the holidays. The park boasts an exquisite cultural complex called Jabeolle (J-Bug), offering plenty of art and rest facilities as well as a magnificent view

of the Hangang River. Conveniently located near Ttukseom Resort Station, Jabeolle houses a café, tea house, and gift shop, as well as exhibitions by media artists. Ttukseom Hangang Park is open all year round and has a variety of attractions that change with each season. During the summer season, visitors can enjoy the thrill of windsurfing, waterskiing, and motor boating. During spring and fall, the park has a number of seasonal flower exhibitions. In winter, sledding and skating await. In addition, the park offers facilities for X-Games, artificial rock climbing, cruise ships, a Saturday Flea Market, a nursing mothers’ rooms, and women’s lounges, making the park a popular place for Seoul citizens.

For visitors who are traveling to Korea in summer, the outdoor swimming pools and water playgrounds at Hangang River are one of the top recommendations for you. Only open during the summer season, this is probably one of the most attractive offers to enjoy cooling waters in downtown Seoul. Among the 11 Hangang Parks, the five parks at Yeouido, Ttukseom, Jamwon, Gwangnaru, and Jamsil feature outdoor public swimming pools. In addition, Nanji Hangang Park and Yanghwa Hangang Park also have water playground facilities for visitors to splash around in. Don’t miss your chance to cool off with the Hangang River right beside you! From March to October, a variety of festivals are held at Hangang River for all citizens. Festivals celebrate seasonal themes, rotating among flowers in spring, water leisure sports and activities in summer, and fireworks in fall. Among the many summer festivals taking place in Seoul, Hangang Summer Festival is truly one of the best there is!

If you are looking for a good view to go with your coffee, lookout cafés are be the best option. These spots offer the best views of Hangang River, especially at dusk or sunset. Presently, there are two cafes each on Hangangdaegyo, Yanghwadaegyo, and Dongjakdaegyo Bridges. Of the six, we recommend Gyeonu Café and Jiknyeo Café on Hangangdaegyo Bridge, and Gureum Café and Noeul Café on Dongjakdaegyo Bridge as their central locations offer magnificent views.

Gureum Café and Noeul Café located on Dongjakdaegyo Bridge boast the finest view of all the lookout cafés on the Hangang River. The two cafés are very similar in size and they both serve coffee, juice, tea and other beverages. Furthermore, tourists who would like to satisfy their hunger can enjoy a Western-style meal such as pasta or pizza, too. Above all, both cafés offer an outdoor terrace where you can feel the river breeze while appreciating the nightscape coming alive as the sun sets.

One of the most famous evening attractions at Hangang River is none other than the Hangang River Ferry Cruise! The cruise offers a splendid nightscape of Seoul, attracting numerous international visitors non-stop. It’s also popular among couples as a date course or a marriage proposal spot thanks to its romantic atmosphere. The programs offered by the Hangang River ferry cruise vary according to the time of day. Visitors can hand-feed seagulls and watch a musical performance on the Story Cruise, enjoy a buffet during the regular Lunch or Dinner

Cruise, or take in the Banpo Rainbow Fountain Show and jazz music on the Music Cruise. Visitors can also enjoy a live guitar music performance on the Moonlight Cruise or even a baking experience and performance called Pang Pang Cruise for some interactive fun! Each cruise has a unique schedule and travel days, so travelers who are interested in these programs are advised to check the schedule in advance before visiting. International visitors are also reminded that proper identification such as a passport is required to board all ferries in Korea.

After sunset, a latenight market pops up in various places across Seoul, including Yeouido Hangang Park and Banpo Hangang Park. This weekend-only event, called the Seoul Bamdokkaebi Night Market, lives up to its name by appearing at night and disappearing before morning, just like a bamdokkaebi (night goblin). The night market has been attracting crowds of Seoulites as well as numerous tourists every week. The biggest merit of this night market is that there is much to see and eat all in one place! Magic shows, DJ music performances, and buskers can be found throughout the market, and diverse international foods are sold at reasonable prices in food trucks. With a cool evening breeze, this is undeniably one of the best places to enjoy the nightscape of Hangang River. The night market operating hours and days vary by each location so be sure to check the details before visiting.

Some Sevit rose in popularity among the public after appearing in the movie “The Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015).” Located near the southernmost part of Banpodaegyo Bridge, Some Sevit is a cluster of three artificial islands that appear to float on the surface of Hangang River. The islands are known for their beautiful and colorful kaleidoscopic illumination at night. Some Sevit is one of the most famous attractions for taking in night views of Seoul. Across from Some Sevit are Banpo Hangang Park Dalbit Square and an outdoor performance stage, allowing visitors to be entertained with music and performances while enjoying the summer evening. Try taking a picnic at Some Sevit with chicken and beer for an unforgettable summer night by Hangang River. In close proximity to Some Sevit, visitors can find the all-time favorite Banpodaegyo Rainbow Fountain! This bridge fountain was recorded in the Guinness World Records in 2008 for being the world’s longest bridge fountain. The fountain runs 570 meters on both sides of Banpo Bridge with a total of 380 nozzles installed. Unlike a typical water fountain that spouts water from the bottom to the top, Banpodaegyo Rainbow Fountain shoots water from the top of the bridge, down into the Hangang River below. Over 200 LED lights illuminate the water spray in an array of colors as it dances to the exciting music in the background for a revitalizing and vivacious presentation.

Bukhansan

NATIONAL PARK 86, Dobongsan-gil, Dobong-gu, Seoul

Bukhansan Mountain is situated in the northern part of Seoul. Designated as a national park in 1983, the park is 78.45 kilometers wid0e, has 6 districts and extends out into Gyeonggido. The name Bukhansan means “big mountain in the north,” and it is also called Samgaksan Mountain. Bukhansan Mountain has such smooth curves that the large granite rocks sometimes look as if they would slide down the mountain. The sharp peaks provide contrast to the

dozens of valleys and rivers flowing below. The mountain has many different kinds of peaks but its main peak is Baegunbong. The granite peaks blend well with trees, and there are about 1,300 kinds of animals and plants living on the mountain. Among the granite peaks, the best known is Insubong Peak’s Giam rocks. The world famous granite rock peak Insubong is 810.5 meters above sea level, and there are about 100 mountain paths leading to the rock. When you

stand on Baegundae and look down, sometimes you can see as far as Seoul City and the Hangang River. Bukhansan Mountain has a rich history as well. Silla’s King Jinheung Sunsubi Monument on Bibong Peak, the Bukhansanseong Fortress built along the mountain’s ridges, Sangunsa Temple built by the monk Won-Hyo, and numerous other temples occupy the mountain areas. Especially, Bukhansanseong Fortress is a must-see tour site if you

are visiting the mountain. The fortress was built with a wall spanning about 8,500 meters, built specifically to stop foreign invasion. It is one of the representative mountain fortresses of the Joseon Era. In the fall, the view you can get from the fortress of the mountain is spectacular. Temples are also representative of rich culture that flourished on Bukhansan. The Seungasa Temple on the east Bibong Peak, with Maaeseokgayeoraejwasang (seated rock-carved

Buddhas) carved into a 5 meter granite rock, and the Munsusa Temple located halfway up the Musubong Peak, with purified mountain water dropping from the ceiling of Munsugol Cave, are indicative of both Bukhansan’s history and culture. With its granite peaks and Bukhansanseong Fortress, Bukhansan is perfect for hiking in all seasons. In the spring, all kinds of flowers bloom, and in the summer, lush forests carpet

the numerous valleys. The hiking path along the valley is perhaps the best summer mountain climbing course. And the fall is the perfect time to visit the temples and pavilions in their autumn colors. In the winter, the snow-covered mountain scenery is very beautiful. The park averages 5 million visitors and has received the Honor of being in the Guinness Book of World Records for being the national park with the highest number of visitors per square foot.

DEOGYUSAN

NATIONAL PARK

159 Gucheondong 1-ro, Seolcheon-myeon, Muju-gun, Jeollabuk-do

Deogyusan National Park covers Geochanggun of Gyeongsangnamdo and Muju-gun of Jeollabuk-do. Starting from Mt. Deogyusan’s main peak, Hyangjeokbong, the ridges are about 1300m above sea level, and as it stretches southwestward for about 18km, it branches out in many directions to create a long series of mountains. For every branch of the mountain ridgeline, there are matching valleys at Mt. Deogyusan. Among these valleys, Mujuguche ondong Valley, stretching 25km from the Deogyu peak to Seolcheon River on the north, is the most famous. There are 33 wonderful scenes in the valley that are praised for their beauty, called Gucheondong 33 Kyeong. Susimdae is a valley 400m deep. Because water as clear as jade flows through here, it is also referred to as Suhwa.

Deogyusan also has three valleys that are grouped together: the Chilyeon, Jeoksang, and Munan. Among them the Chilyeon Valley is the most beautiful. It is famous for its Chilyeon Waterfall, where clear water passes by thick pine forest and winds through a series of rock formations. This water current has created seven ponds, and the way they are all lined up makes up for a very interesting view. Clear water circulates into each of these ponds, and then flows into another pond to create a series of seven segmented waterfalls.

The Chilyeon Waterfall complements the surrounding old pine trees and maple trees. In the summer, many vacationers, and in the fall, people looking for autumn colored leaves visit this area. Mt. Deogyusan has many beautiful valleys, waterfalls, pine forests, and intresting rock formations. Mujugucheondong local officials, in conjunction with the National Park Administration Office, provide visitors with many convenient facilities in order to make for a pleasurable stay.

SEORAK

SPECIAL TOURIST ZONE Sokcho-si, Gangwon-do

Seorak Special Tourist Zone is a vast zone included in 3 administrative districts, encompassing the entirety of Seoraksan Mountain. In this zone, visitors have various ways to enjoy Seoraksan Mountain and the natural environment of the East Sea region. Sokcho, which occupies the largest area in the zone, comes first when talking about Seoraksan National Park. Tourists can appreciate the picturesque scenery of the sea and coastal lakes as well as the mountain scenery of Seoraksan Mountain. Hikers can climb the mountain or ride a cable car. Sokcho Beach is a hot spot that attracts young people who fill the place with energy and life all through the summer. Abai Village, which appeared in several TV dramas for its unique atmosphere, and Sokcho Jungang Market offer local specialties,

such as abai sundae (Korean sausage) and dak gangjeong (glazed fried chicken bites). Goseong, which is bordered by Seoraksan Mountain and Geumgangsan Mountain, is part of the Northern Limit Line (NLL) that offers a unpolluted, beautiful landscape around the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ). Hwajinpo Beach near Hwajinpo Lake, which is a lagoon, and Songjiho Beach near Songjiho Lake are the best places to spend a peaceful vacation. At Hwajinpo Lake, tourists can visit the summer house used

by the first South Korean President Syngman Rhee and Castle of Hwajinpo, visited by the former North Korean leader Kim Il-sung before the division of the Korean Peninsula. Lastly, although it is a relatively small part of Seorak Special Tourist Zone, Yangyang has resources for mountain tourism and maritime culture, such as Seoraksan National Park and Naksan Provincial Park. Naksan Beach, Naksansa Temple and Hajodae are popular tourist sites. It is also famous as a district producing high quality pine mushroom.

seongnisan NATIONAL PARK

Sangpan-ri, Songnisan-myeon, Boeun-gun, Chungcheongbuk-do

Mt. Songnisan National Park is comprised of Mt. Songnisan and the valleys of Hwayang, Seonyu, and Ssanggok. Situated in the middle of the Sobaeksanmaek Mountains, which is the southwest branch of the Taebaeksanmaek Mountains, Mt. Songnisan is one of Korea’s most beautiful sites. The sharp granite peaks of Mt. Songnisan and the deep valleys of sedimentary rocks are spectacular. Therefore, Mt. Songnisan is also referred to as Mt. Sogeumgangsan, meaning a smaller version of Mt. Geumgangsan. One of Korea’s largest temples, Beopjusa, can also be found on Mt. Songnisan. Uisang indicates a sitting Buddha statue and Maaeyeoraeuisang describes the Buddha sitting on a lotus flower. The years have damaged the figure quite a bit, but it still maintains its original beauty. Visitors to the temple will witness the Cheongdongmireukbul, which is the largest Buddha statue in the world. With its numerous treasures and National Monuments, Beopjusa Temple is the best place in which to experience the brilliant history of Buddhist civilization. Mt. Songnisan’s deep valleys and the many Natural Monuments attract countless mountaineers and tourists. The cherry blossoms in the spring, green pine forest in the summer, and the lovely autumn leaves in the fall make this place beautiful all the year round.

wolchusan

NATIONAL PARK 280-43, Cheonhwangsa-ro, Yeongam-gun, Jeollanam-do

Wolchulsan National Park is located in the southern part of Korea. The name Wolchulsan means “mountain where the moon rises.” Starting with the Cheonhwangbong Peak (810.7m) at the center, the whole area is filled with rocky mountain peaks which all look special and unique. Walk for about 20 minutes past the National Park’s parking lot and Dogapsa Temple, and the entrance to Wolchulsan comes in to view. About 5 kilometers beyond the gate, you can see Gujeolbong Peak, shaped like nine large pots. Because this place always has water, it is said that a dragon used to live here. Another 500 meters further along you can see Maaeyeoraejwasang, a sitting Buddha statue, which is designated National Treasure No. 144. Just beyond the statue a path leading to the top passes through a lush green forest. When you reach the top of Wolchulsan Mountain, there is a large flat granite rock that can fit up to 300 people. Staring down from here gives you a great view of Wolchulsan Mountain.

Climbing down from the top, you can cross an arched bridge, 120 meters from the ground, 52 meters long, and 6 meters wide. To the left of Sajabong Peak, around the middle of the mountain, there is a waterfall pouring down into the valley as seven separate falls on top of each other, called Chilchipokpo Waterfall. On the way down to Dogapsa and Muwisa

Temples, there is a field of reeds by the road that becomes spectacularly beautiful during fall. The sunset in the west is also beautiful beyond description. In the spring, the azaleas, in the summer the cool waterfalls, in the fall, all kinds of lovely colors, and in the winter, the snow covered mountains and valleys – Wolchulsan National Park is truly a wonderful site to visit all year around.

chiaksan

NATIONAL PARK

Bugok-ri, Gangnim-myeon, Hoengseong-gun & Hakgok-ri, Socho-myeon, Wonju-si, Gangwon-do

Chiaksan Mountain has several peaks reaching heights of over 1,000 meters, including Namdaebong, Cheonjibong, Hyangnobong, Sambong, and Birobong Peak, the tallest of the peaks at 1,288 meters. Chiaksan National Park, designated in 1984, encompasses a 182.09sq.m area with a 14km-long trail connecting the peaks from Birobong Peak in the north to Namdaebong in the south.

In addition to these soaring peaks, the park also includes many deep valleys, unique rock formations, waterfalls, and tourist attractions. Some of the more popular destinations are Geumdae Valley, Taejongdae Rock, Seryeom Falls, and Guryongsa Temple. The park draws in hikers all year round, with bright azaleas in spring, lush forests in summer, vibrant foliage in fall, and a white wonderland in winter.

Sobaeksan

NATIONAL PARK 494, Namhangang-ro, Danyang-gun, Chungcheongbuk-do

Sobaeksan Mountain is renowned for its natural splendor and mystery, standing tall in the middle of the Korean peninsula, and offering several magnificent peaks, such as Hyeongjebong, Sinseonbong, Gukmangbong, Birobong, and Yeonhwabong. Its captivating seasonal beauty (royal azalea in spring, wildflowers in summer, autumn foliage in fall, and snowscape in winter) attracts visitors year round. The open grass field on Birobong Peak (1,439 m in elevation) is reminiscent of a scene from the Swiss Alps. The Sobaeksan Optical Astromony Observatory (SOAO) located upon Yeonhwabong Peak (1,349 m in elevation) is the historic cradle of Korean astronomy. The Sobaeksan Royal Azalea Festival is held near Danyang-gun in early June every year.

gyeryongsan NATIONAL PARK Banpo-myeon, Gongju-si, Chungcheongnam-do

Gyeryongsan National Park stretches across Daejeon, Gongju, and Nonsan. This spectacular mountain is 845.1m above sea level and was made a national park in 1968. The origin of the word Gyeryong (‘Gye’ meaning ‘chicken,’ and ‘Yong’ meaning ‘dragon’) comes from the fact that the ridgeline looks like a dragon wearing a chicken’s crest on its head. The topographical features are what make this mountain stand out and its mysterious folklore is what makes it so interesting. There are 15 summits on this mountain, of which Cheonhwangbong (845.1m)

is the main. Several others include the peaks of Sambulbong, Sinseongbong, and Gwaneumbong. This mountain is famous for its many interesting sites, with its fantastic rock structures, on the west side the Yongmun Waterfall, to the east Eunseon Waterfall, and to the south Amyongchu and Sutyongchu Waterfalls. In the spring, cherry blossoms bloom on Donghaksa Mountain trail, and during the summer the lush green of the Donghaksa Valley is very beautiful. During the fall, the maple trees reveal their

crimson colored leaves around Gapsa Temple and Yongmun Waterfall. And the snowcapped peaks of Sambulbong in the winter are simply breathtaking. Gyeryongsan is full of rare animals and plants, beautiful waterfalls and a rich history with mysterious legends and cultural treasures. To the east is Donghaksa Temple; northwest, Gapsa Temple; southwest, Sinwonsa Temple; and southeast, Yonghwasa Temple. GOD OF HIGH SCHOOL It all began as a fighting tournament to seek out for the best fighter among all high school students in Korea. Mori Jin, a Taekwondo specialist and a high school student, soon learns that there is something much greater beneath the stage of the tournament.

Ten years ago, “the Gate” appeared and connected the real world with the realm of magic and monsters. To combat these vile beasts, ordinary people received superhuman powers and became known as “Hunters.” Twenty-year-old Sung JinWoo is one such Hunter, but he is known as the “World’s Weakest,” owing to his pathetic power compared to even a measly E-Rank. Still, he hunts monsters tirelessly in low-rank Gates to pay for his mother’s medical bills. However, this miserable lifestyle changes when JinWoo—believing himself to be the only one left to die in a mission gone terribly wrong—awakens in a hospital three days later to find a mysterious screen floating in front of him. This “Quest Log” demands that Jin-Woo completes an unrealistic and intense training program, or face an appropriate penalty. Initially reluctant to comply because of the quest’s rigor, Jin-Woo soon finds that it may just transform him into one of the world’s most fearsome Hunters.

7 LEVELING SOLO

There is nowhere that Seon Jin can find solace. At school, he is ruthlessly bullied due to his unsettlingly quiet nature and weak appearance. However, this is not the source of Jin’s insurmountable terror: the thing that he fears more than anything else is his own father. To most, Jin’s father is a successful businessman, good samaritan, and doting

parent. But that is merely a facade; in truth, he is a deranged serial killer—and Jin is his unwilling accomplice. For years, they have been carrying out this ruse with the police being none the wiser. However, when his father takes an interest in the pretty transfer student Yoon Kyun, Jin must make a decision—be the coward who sends her to the gallows like all the rest, or be the bastard of a son who defies his wicked parent.
