AMBER LIU

To Host New Original Show

I’ll Ask The Stupid Questions

On Ficto Streaming Platform

Premiering on October 29, Special Guest Congressman Jimmy Gomez Discusses Voting

F

icto, a first-of-its-kind streaming service providing audience participation across its programming, today announced its new original show “I’ll Ask The Stupid Questions” with K-pop superstar Amber Liu. The first episode, premiering October 29th, will cover the critical topic of voting and the electoral process, ahead of the unprecedented 2020 presidential election. Liu kicks off the series interviewing Congressman Jimmy Gomez, who represents Los Angeles, and other political policy experts to discuss why people do not vote, why people should vote, the resources available, how the media can impact elections, and many other topics.

Liu is a K-pop sensation hailing from the record-breaking girl group f(x), she now enjoys a 12 million strong following on social media, who have supported her in a whirlwind career spanning beyond music. Last year, she released her full English album “X” and embarked on a national 24-city tour in early 2020. Now, she is extending her audience this Fall with her new show, streaming exclusively on Ficto. For anyone who’s ever been afraid of sounding clueless, “I’ll Ask The Stupid Questions” is a shame-free program where Liu asks the stupid questions you’re too embarrassed to ask yourself. The original show is produced by Steel Wool Entertainment and will feature Korean and English closed captioning.

From mental health to American politics and skateboarding, viewers can join the superstar and experts in their respective fields on a weekly inquisitive journey that answers the burning questions of the modern mind. The docu-series offers a closer look at one of the most successful K-Pop stars of our generation. Whether it’s learning how to skateboard with pro-skateboarder Jagger Eaton or finding out how we can support those experiencing homelessness with Amy Turk of the LA Downtown Women’s Center, the audience will be front row to a side of Liu rarely seen in her public life. “Growing up I always felt like Curious George. I had so many questions about every little thing. As I’ve grown older, I realized that I’ve become afraid of looking clueless and dumb. I feel like that fear has stunted my personal growth and I’ve had many conversations with people who’ve felt the same way. “I’ll Ask The Stupid Questions” is me trying to learn how to be curious again. I want to normalize learning and that it’s okay to ask stupid questions because you can get some really smart answers.” said Amber Liu.

“We couldn’t be happier to work with Amber— she is one of the most talented artists out there today, and someone who cares deeply about real issues. We have been following her career closely and are really impressed with how she engages in the communities that surround her. Having her tackle these topics with vulnerability and grace is a great way to kick off our slate of Ficto’s Original Fall programming,” said Mike Esola, Founder and CEO of Ficto. Described as a hybrid streaming service, Ficto has made headlines with its programming which allows viewers to participate in the shows that they watch whether through submissions, choices, social- based polling and location-based activations. Last month,

LG announced that LG WING owners can enjoy FICTO videos full screen while simultaneously interacting with other viewers via the second screen. Offering technology unique to its show experiences, Ficto enables social media clip sharing while complying with copyright law. LG has also teamed up with Ficto, Tubi, Rave and NAVER Whale in its new Explorer Project along with these platform partners that will elevate the mobile user experiences. Currently, there are more than 40 shows on the mobile streaming platform, with new shows premiering every week, spanning across genres— from docu-series, to lifestyle programming and entertainment variety shows.

KPOP LEADS CONTACTLESS

CONCERTS Article Exerpt from www.thediplomat.com | Layne Vandenberg

O V I D - 1 9 restrictions have adversely impacted live concerts and performances of musical artists across the world. While some artists have posted free online performances for fans to enjoy during quarantine, select music industries have taken the opportunity to develop new methods of delivering virtual entertainment. Amid the success of South Korean measures taken to abate the spread of COVID-19, the Korean music industry and K-pop fans alike have

mobilized to keep the art of the performance at the center of K-pop. Although the global pandemic brought live, in-person concerts to a standstill, KPOP — from entertainment companies, individuals artists to the fans themselves — have rallied to create new spaces for performance. The development of virtual concerts has not only allowed KPOP to maintain performance as a staple of the genre, but may prove to continue to push the global music industry forward in unexpected ways, as KPOP has done from its onset.

Autumn Foliage destinations Source: http://english.visitkorea.or.kr/

Cooling temperatures followed by the changing leaves from the vibrant greens of summer to a rich palette of red, orange, and yellow signal the arrival of autumn. Although numerous areas across Korea offer brilliant displays of fall foliage, the mountains are still considered a quintessential destination. This year, the leaves are expected to change color around mid-October at Seoraksan Mountain and spread south across the central and southern parts of Korea. Fall foliage generally reaches its peak two weeks from the time the leaves begin to change, meaning this year’s peak foliage is expected to reach the central region around late October, and the southern region in early November. This is when you can hit the road with friends, family, or loved ones to revel in the splendor of the changing seasons.

Seoraksan When it comes to autumn destinations, the first mountain that comes to mind for most is Seoraksan Mountain. A feast for the eyes throughout the year, rich colors make Seoraksan a main attraction in autumn. The most popular route to see the view of the East Sea, Sokcho and Daecheongbong Peak is the Ulsanbawi Rock Course, whereas the best places to enjoy the leaves are at Cheonbuldong Valley, Osaek Mineral Spring, Osaek Jujeongol, and Baekdam Valley.

Odaesan Odaesan Mountain’s vibrant fall foliage puts it on the map as an autumn destination. A popular vacation site year round, it is especially attractive during peak foliage season around mid-October, when many visitors go to see the change in leaves. Seonjae-gil Course that starts at Woljeongsa Temple is a popular trail with mostly flat walking paths and beautiful fall foliage along the stream.

Jirisan Jirisan Mountain is loved among Koreans for its beautiful charm. During peak foliage season in late October, the slopes blaze with brilliant colors. The areas around Ssanggyesa Temple, Piagol Valley, and Baemsagol Valley in particular are outstanding at this time. Jirisan extends across three provinces (Jeollanam-do, Jeollabuk-do, Gyeongsangnamdo), and many visitors choose to go on overnight hiking trips to fully appreciate the mountain. For those looking for a good hiking course, Hwaeom Valley Trail is the representative trail of Jeollanam-do.

Naejangsan

Naejangsan National Park boasts a high volume of visitors in late October, as to be expected from a top foliage destination. The most remarkable feature of this mountain during autumn is the tunnel of multicolored maple trees that begins at the ticket office. The maple trees that make up this tunnel stretch for approximately 800 meters planted at 5-meter intervals, making photos taken here appear perfectly composed.

Juwangsan Juwangsan National Park is characterized by rocky peaks, deep valleys and elegant waterfalls. Among the many hiking trails, Juwanggyegok Valley Course is one of the easier courses that offers a beautiful fall foliage view, and takes about two hours to complete. At dawn, the scenery of thick fog blanketing Jusanji Reservoir near Juwangsan Mountain, combined with the reflection of trees in the water, attracts visitors, especially photographers, to the mountain every year.

JEJU IN FALL

The turning of the leaves is one of the island’s symbolic images of autumn. It’s magical to find the leaves on the trees turning red, brown, or yellow. Jeju is the right place to enjoy seeing colorful and ample autumn leaves.

Hallasan The turning of the leaves is one of the island’s symbolic images of autumn. It’s magical to find the leaves on the trees turning red, brown, or yellow. Jeju is the right place to enjoy seeing colorful and ample autuma Hallasan Mountain is the tallest mountain in South Korea. The higher the altitude, the lower the temperature. So its climates differ according to the altitude and some 1,800 kinds of plants are distributed across the mountain. Various tree species make up every single different autumn scene. Whichever trail you choose to hike like Eorimok, Yeongsil, Donnaeko, Seongpanak, Gwaneumsa, Seokguram, and Eoseungsaengak, you will find wonderful autumn foliage. The easy courses for beginners are Eorimok and Yeongsil trails. Another option when choosing to hike Hallasan is the Dullegil trail system. ‘Dulle’ means ‘circumference’ and ‘gil’ means ‘trail’. The Hallasan Mountain Dullegil trail system is at an altitude of 600~800 meters. If you wanna hike and enjoy Hallasan Mountain in a unique way, Dullegil has what you are looking for. Among the five Hallasan Mountain

Dullegil trails, the Cheonasoop-gil trail is the best to enjoy autumn foliage. Cheonasuwonji, the starting point of Cheonasoop-gil trail, has an especially beautiful and wonderful view for autumn foliage.

Hangpaduri Hangmong Hangmong refers to the Anti-Mongolian movement. In the past, when Goryeo was invaded by the Mongols, Sambyeolcho, a resistance group, relocated to Jeju Island, reorganized military power, built earthen fortifications, and fought against the Mongolian troops in this place. There is an Exhibit Hall where you can learn about the related history. Leaving this historic meaning aside, it is a popular place for

those who love to gaze at beautiful flowers and trees. In late autumn, people flock to this red forest at Hangpaduri Hangmong Historic Site. It is definitely different from the views you get at other places, like Hallasan Mountain, because it is purely red and has a mysterious and magical vibe. Visitors are totally free to look around this wonderful tree world. Exhibitions are organized as well, if you’re interested in history.

Geumbaekjoro

Geumbaekjo-ro (’ro’ means road in Korean) is a road where a “secret carpet” is laid between Songdang-ri, Gujwa-eup and Susan-ri, Seongsaneup. Pampas grass fills the large fields and smooth ridges of large and small volcanic cones, or oreum, that dot both sides of the road. Geumbaekjoro is one of great roads for driving, especially in autumn. It is named ‘Geumbaekjo’ for the goddess Geumbaekjo, whom people living in Songdang village worshipped. Her children scattered throughout Jeju Island and became gods.

Gapmajanggil

Jeju Island is famous for its history of raising horses. There is a Korean saying, ‘Send a horse to Jeju, send a man to Seoul (the capital city of South Korea)’, meaning that Jeju is the best place to breed horses. ‘Gapma’ meant a fine, high-quality horse. ‘Gapmajang’ was a farm where only fine horses were raised in the Joseon period. ‘Gil’ means ‘path’. Located in Gasi-ri, Pyoseon-myeon, Gapmajang-gil has two trekking courses: Gampajang-gil trail and Jjolbeun Gapmajang-gil trail. ‘Jjolbeun’ means ‘short’ in the Jeju language. They’re all inner circular courses. You’ll return to the starting point, ‘Yuchaeggot Plaza (canola flower plaza, 유채꽃프라자)’ in the end.

Akkeundarangswi

Oreum volcanic cone is created by volcanic ejecta and seems like a hill. They are covered with silver grass in Autumn. Among plenty of oreum volcanic cones, we’d like to recommend you to visit Akkeundarangswi oreum volcanic cone in this time. ‘Akkeun’ means ‘small’ in Jeju dialect and ‘Darangswi’ is the dialect of Jeju which means ‘moon’. It is located next to Darangshi oreum volcanic cone. It is easy to reach the top. When you go up to the peak of Aggendarangshi oreum volcanic cone, you’ll discover stunning views in all directions and can’t stop taking a picture of all sceneries that capture your eyes. Silver grass definitely stands out.
