15. Cultra Manor

Cultra Manor

Dr Hugh Kennedy, a distinguished medical practitioner and personal physician to the 1st Earl of Donegall, purchased the estate of Cultra from the Earl of Clanbrassil in 1671. The Manor and Pleasure Gardens were sold to the Ulster Folk and Transport Museum in 1961 and conversion of the building was undertaken to transform the main rooms into exhibition areas. After half a century, the Manor required refurbishment once again. A detailed stone survey and analysis was undertaken and the stone façade entirely cleaned and repaired. Internally, the major rooms were restored to provide a premier venue for corporate events, private hire and weddings.
