A Message from Our Director Edra Waterman

A lot is happening at HEPL as we move from Winter into Spring! There’s something for everyone at the library, whether that be through a resource or experience, and everyone has a story to tell. We’ve embraced a storytelling theme this year and welcome community members to share their library stories with us. We’re also excited to share storytelling resources to inspire and equip you to tell your story! This February, share the love of reading and challenge yourself by participating in our Winter Reading Program. In March, the Seed Library will reopen, and I think we are all looking forward to warmer weather and quality time outdoors. The spring quarter brings a new Paper Series to the Ignite Studio, and I look forward to seeing the creativity that comes from it. With all of this and more to come in 2023, we are always glad to connect with you at HEPL.

SPROUTING WEDNESDAY, MARCH 1

HOW IT works

1. LOOK UP

and be fearless with your gardening journey, whether this is the first time you’ve planted seeds or you’re a seasoned gardener.

One Seed Library user said it perfectly: “My kids love to go to the seed library and pick a few packets of their favorite things. We always try something new as well. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn’t, but we learn something either way.”

This year, you’ll see some varieties that are new to the HEPL Seed Library: Ping Tung eggplant, Aconagua peppers, Black Futsu squash, scabiosa, phlox, Little Bluestem grass, Striped German tomatoes, rose mallow, lavender, and more.

You’ll also see the return of many of your favorites, including five different sunflower varieties, zinnias, Matt’s Wild Cherry tomatoes, Kentucky Wonder beans, New Zealand spinach, Sweet Thai basil, and Dragon carrots.

Watch for more information in HEPL’s Bright Ideas email newsletter, visit the Seed Library webpage (www.hepl.lib.in.us/seed-library), check HEPL’s social media, or email us for more information at seedlibrary@hepl.lib.in.us.

Want to learn more?

Research to see which seeds are right for you! Use the Planting Guides as a resource to help.

2. PICK UP

Come pick up your pack of seeds at either library! Max 20 packs per person for the season.

3. PLANT IT The moment you’ve been waiting for! Refer to Seed Guides for tips and tricks along the way.

4. SHARE IT
