It only takes a moment for life to change. There is much to complain about in this world right now but it no longer seems to be such a big deal. On Friday morning July 17, a driver decided to get behind the wheel impaired, run a red light and hit another car with a mother and child inside and in seconds that car was impelled through the wall of my office building. Because they were restrained, no one was seriously hurt and, by the grace of GOD, no one was hurt in my office but life did change. I am taking this moment to thank the first responders, Champaign Police and Champaign Fire Dept and ambulance service workers, who arrived on scene and quickly and calmly assessed the situation, checked people for injuries, ultimately removed the car and made sure that everyone was okay and assured that most of our building was safe for staff to work. It only takes a moment to decide to drive impaired, it only takes a moment to properly restrain your children and yourself in your car, it only takes a moment to remind your loved ones how important they are, it only takes a moment to do something nice, it only takes a moment to see the good and not the bad and it only takes a moment to be gone.
