EXPAND YOUR TALENT JOIN US FOR AN UNFORGETTABLE LEARNING EXPERIENCE IN 2016

DEAR FRIENDS. Welcome to the seventh season of workshops by NORDphotography. It is true, “time does fly when you are having fun”.
I have the highest respect for creative people, and believe that developing a talent, no matter what level you are at, requires instructors that not only are great photographers but also equally great mentors and teachers of the craft. We operate with small classes, to ensure a tight nit group, where each participant has enough space to grow and be heard. This combined with inspiring teachers that are generous with their knowledge, and passionate about helping new creative talent find their way, gives results. We have participants that have been accepted into grant programs, found gallery representation, been published and exhibited. And equally important, found their creative voice, which have led them to start producing powerful personal project. This is what NORDphotography is all about.
WET PLATE COLLODION AND ALBUMEN PRINTING JILL ENFIELD
The collodion process, invented in 1850, was the first widely used photographic process that produced a negative image on a transparent photographic medium. Other methods of the time, such as the Daguerreotype, produced a one-of-a-kind positive image. With the collodion process, the photographer could make an unlimited number of prints from a single negative. This workshop will take you back to the beginning and teach you to create glass negatives and tintypes using wet plate techniques. Our instructor Jill Enfield, who has written two books on the subject, is regarded as one of America’s most experienced and respected alternative process artists. The workshop will cover the entire process from cutting and preparing glass & aluminum, mixing and handling chemicals, safety procedures, making portable darkrooms, assessment of exposure time, evaluation of results, and all that goes into mastering wet plate collodion and albumen printing. From the glass negative we will learn to produce a print using the albumen technique, which was the first commercially exploitable method of producing a photographic print on a paper base from a negative. DATES: TUITION: MATERIAL: LOCATION: image © Jill Enfield

THE NUDE AS FORM CONNIE IMBODEN
Our vision is so often limited by what we know that we see - what we expect to see - instead of what is actually in front of us. This can be particularly challenging when photographing the nude, a subject dominated by preconceptions. The nude, more than any other subject, is the most popular in the history of art, and possibly the most controversial.
We already have a myriad of preconceptions as to what a nude should look like, what is a beautiful nude, what is appropriate, what is not appropriate, what is tasteless, what is offensive, and so on. All of this contributes to the nude as an incredibly powerful and popular subject, while at the same time an extremely challenging one and difficult to see in an original way.
Through exercises, assignments, and discussions, the goal of this workshop is to learn to use the camera as a tool to discover new ways of looking at and interpreting the human form. By looking at it as form, we will learn to develop an intuitive visual approach in photographing the body in order to see it in a new way and be truly original with this most popular subject. DATES: TUITION: LOCATION:

THE SHADOW SCULPTOR WILLIAM ROPP
PAINTING WITH LIGHT - A PORTRAIT WORKSHOP William Ropp is known for his unique style, where his images are so dimensional and expressive that they look like they are sculpted from shadow and light. His portraits often evoke the feeling that it is the person in the image who is observing the viewer, not the other way around. When you add in the quality of light in his images, it is easy to understand why his work has grabbed the art-worlds attention.
This is a workshop for photographers whom want to push their portrait skills to a new level. Participants will learn how to create amazing and different portraits using William’s flashlight technique and his special approach in Photoshop. The workshop will be a combination of lectures, demonstration of techniques, photographing with local models, editing and retouching.
You will also gain an insight into his specific approach regarding the portrait; how he treats his models to get them to feel at ease and safe, and how just with a short talk he helps them to open up to the photographer so it is possible to “see the soul mirrored in their eyes”. DATES: TUITION: LOCATION:

THE AUTUMN LANDSCAPE EDDIE SOLOWAY
EXPERIENCE AND PHOTOGRAPH NATURE IN NEW AND EXCITING WAYS Our fall workshop with nature photographer Eddie Soloway is designed to push participants from seeing what’s right in front of their eyes, into the world of abstractions, reflections, layers, movement, and then deeper into the realm of concepts and imagination. This is a workshop suited for all levels. Our goal is to strengthen your skill, and develop your eye so you are able to create stunning images of nature, as you see and experience it. This workshop weaves together eye-opening outdoor experiences, technical lessons, image reviews, and Eddie’s one-on-one meetings with each participant. DATES: TUITION: LOCATION:

ICELAND Iceland is a country of sharp contrasts. A place where fire and ice co-exist. Where dark winters are offset by the summer’s midnight sun. The country is also known for its great variety in scenery and landscape. Iceland was the last European country to be settled, mostly by Norsemen in the 9th and 10th centuries. They came mainly from Norway and elsewhere in Scandinavia, and from the Norse settlements in the British Isles, from where a Celtic element was also introduced. The language and culture of Iceland were predominantly Scandinavian from the outset, but there are traces of Celtic influence in some of the ancient poetry, in some personal names and in the apperance of present-day Icelanders. Iceland is our newest destination, and we will start our journey there with a workshop with the acclaimed American Photographer Cig Harvey.
