DOKIBOT
DESKTOP TOY| CHARGING DOCK E-commerce Product |3D-print Project 2020
HAN S HONG | han.s.hong.id@gmail.com
Opportunity While the apple’s first stylus was a longwaited product for its royal users, it soon revealed some pain-points for them. The charging aspect of the stylus wasn’t the most joyful experience due to its nonintegrated funciton.
HAN S HONG | han.s.hong.id@gmail.com
Toy with meaningful function Giving the name as Dokibot, which evolved from “docking robot,” I also wanted to promote 3d-printable desktop toy with meaningful function. It became the first product to debute the e-commerce brand “mekatonik” which rolled out to focuses on a playful mecha-toy design for desktop. In this model, the toy should address the 1st gen Apple pencil’s charging issue - the cap. The robot’s body would connect the lightening cable to charging adapter in up-right position to allow the docking easy and naturally. At its angled forehead, it provides a spot for the cap to be stored while being charged.

HAN S HONG | han.s.hong.id@gmail.com
Prototyping Once we have solidified the concept, the key moving parts were modeled with engineering aspects through coloboration with engineer and prototyper. Through 3D printing process we evaluated each itteration of engineering revisions and improved the design to be optimized for the final prototype that will be made out of desired metal alloy through CNC milling process.

Finding the core frame - Post & Beam
Accomodating the needs of all office furniture functionality is not easy especially when we are looking for a great aesthetics. I’ve decided to come up with a core spine structure that can case-in the power & data and support the up-mounted components.

Engineering and technical assessment The extruded main body and special hardware were made in the US factories in order to assure the top quality material and machining precision. The first article, then, was fully tested to assess every aspects of usability including installation and the end-user experiences.

Technical Data
Using AI, exploded view and installation guide was created to support internal teams. Visual call outs on the exploded view helped Operations team to understand ILINE’s components break down while Marketing team took the vector drawings to complete the install guide for the packaging and the web portals.

why keep notes seperate? The ability to highlight and write notes on the margins is not there anymore. Although most devices comes with or allows a seperate program for note taking going back and forth between the textbook page and note interface is very inconvenient. Many students usually take notes on a physical note book.
VS Tablets
bring back the real book feeling! The ability of verifying how far along in book with physical volums on each side of the book is gone. In fact, many students stick with real text books for this reason. The current market’s E-readers are all flt and thine.

Concept development After the conceptualization, foam mock up was made to find a pleasing form and dimension. In order to study some intricquit moving parts I have components tear down an old semi-digital camera.

Realization Integrated weight-shifting technology sences how far along the user have read in ebooks and shifts the wieght blocks on each side of the body to provide feeling of real book.
Weight block 5 oz
Introduced by Fabian Hammert, the concept of this mechanism was aim to enrich display content with physical feed back. I applied this technology to bring back the feeling of real book’s mass shifting as readers go through more pages toward the end.

Re-defining the gardening utility chair Multi-functional chair for home gardening Creative direction: Concept design Individual project 2011
HAN S HONG | han.s.hong.id@gmail.com
Concept development Through a series of mock up session, I found the most suiting shape for the main components, the seat and the base. Three hand grips were also integrated to the edges of seating component in order to reinforce the stability feature for users.
Radius 12.5”
Height: 15”
Height: 2.5”
A few more iterations after, I came to the solution which can provide both stability and adjustability in structure as well as in appearance .
HAN S HONG | han.s.hong.id@gmail.com
Realization The CAD model was created in full scale. The entire structure was built in separate parts so that each part can be manufactured in 3D printer or industrial standard manufacturing process.
HAN S HONG | han.s.hong.id@gmail.com
Scaled Model I used SLA printing to generate complex surfaced parts, all of which are broken down in group of components that would be manufactured in mass production.
