The earliest pagers in the 80s were one-way, which means that someone calls the number of the pager and then enter the phone number. The pager would display this phone number entered by the caller and alert the receiver by a ‘’beep’’ sound. Afterwards, it was up to the receiver to call back the sender by using a nearby telephone. This device was often seen worn around the waist by emergency personals such as doctors. It was only in the 90s that the two-way pager was developed, this newer model also had the option to include a short messaage. It’s popularity declined throughout the 90’s with the upcoming of mobile phones. The use of fax machine was widely popular in the buisness world for that it gave the opportunity to scan a document to convert it into an electronic data and then sent it to the desired person .By 1989 the number of users was estimated to 4 million worldwide.
