Monterey 50

Walking Tours

Saturday 17 June, 1.30-4.30pm

Aly Mir started guiding people around Jimi Hendrix’s flat at 23 Brook Street in 2003. Since then over 30,000 people have been on his walking tours around London.

50 years ago, in June 1967 - the Summer of Love - Jimi Hendrix played one of the most iconic performances of the sixties, if not ever. Having "torn Europe to pieces" after arriving in London in 1966, this was Hendrix’s comeback to his native USA, where he had previously been performing in tiny, New York clubs as Jimmy James & the Blue Flames. Hendrix arrived in the US a relative unknown, apart from those who had witnessed his performances in Britain, and “when he left the stage, he had graduated from rumor to legend”. 50 years on from Hendrix’s legendary performance at Monterey, we celebrate with a series of talks by notable Hendrix experts. Refreshments provided. Venue: Studio Tickets: £25

Hendrix Walking Tour 1- In Jimi’s Footsteps Saturday 1 July 2017 12.30-2pm; 3.30-5pm

The last in a series of three Jimi Hendrix themed walking tours. Lasting an hour and a half this tour will take you to nine locations in Oxford Street and Soho associated with Hendrix. Starting from Hendrix’s home in Brook Street the tour visits the site of a number of venues that Hendrix frequented, including The Speakeasy, Bag O’Nails and the place of his last public performance. Tickets: £15
