FABTECH!
The Biggest Metalworking Trade Show Goes Even Bigger for 2013 FABTECH 2013 is returning to Chicago in November and North America’s largest metal forming, fabricating, welding and finishing event is expected to attract record numbers. More than 35,000 attendees and 1,500 exhibitors are expected at the show, which covers more than 550,000 net square feet of floor space at McCormick Place in Chicago. FABTECH is a convenient one-stop shop to source the best products and services from the U.S. and all over the world. Exhibits will include live equipment demonstrations, offering visitors the unique opportunity to see, touch and compare products side-by-side and find cost-saving solutions. Simultaneously, the FABTECH educational conference will offer unique insights and expert speakers who will discuss today’s hottest topics in manufacturing. “FABTECH is an action-packed, four-day show that’s a must-see event for anyone who wants to take the pulse of manufacturing in the United States,” said John Catalano, show co-manager. “Attendees have the opportunity to see new products and new technologies, allowing them to create new ideas, new suppliers and new solutions for working smarter and becoming more competitive. As important, attendees and exhibitors also join a network they can access year round that fosters knowledge and contacts to stay current with industry developments in the year to come.” FABTECH’s annual expo comes as manufacturing continues to experience a renaissance in the United States. While challenges remain, manufacturers in the U.S. added 41,000 jobs over the past year and more than a half million jobs since 2010. In fact, manufacturing employment is up on a year-over-year basis for the 32nd consecutive month, the longest such streak since 1979.

forming and fabricating. In addition to incorporating 64 new sessions ranging from ‘Trends and Advances in Laser Technology’ to ‘What’s Your Company Worth,’ we have also added new workshops that address lean manufacturing, workforce development and press brake operation skills. We also expanded the number of learning tracks this year to include two new tracks: Job Shop Solutions and Automation & Robotics.”
“The economy and our sector is seeing growth and that means that attending FABTECH is more important than ever for manufacturers who want to stay ahead of the competition and discover the latest technologies, develop partnerships, exchange ideas and, of course, connect with potential buyers and suppliers,” said Mark Hoper, show co-manager.”
Education sessions are offered for attendees with a range of experience levels— from those new to the industry to those in need of a refresher to veteran attendees with years of experience who are seeking more in-depth training. Topics discussed will focus on practical solutions attendees can use right away to increase profits, improve production and achieve higher levels of product quality.
NEW EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM
PLAN YOUR FABTECH EXPERIENCE
This year, Fabtech introduces an expanded education program that will be held alongside the 2013 show in Chicago on November 18-21. The lineup will feature more than 100 valuable educational sessions, including 64 new courses that have never been offered at previous FABTECH events. Each session will offer unique insights from top industry experts on today’s hottest topics in manufacturing.
This year’s FABTECH show will feature more than 1,500 exhibits spread over more than 550,000 square feet of floor space. So, even with four days during the show, it will be tough for attendees to get quality time with each exhibitor. That means attendees will want to map out which exhibitors they want to see and make sure to visit them.
FABTECH is expected to attract more than 35,000 manufacturers to McCormick Place in Chicago. Over three days, attendees will view a record 1,500 exhibits, including live equipment demonstrations, on more than 550,000 net square feet of floor space. Simultaneously, the education program’s technical, operational, economic, and managerial sessions will offer participants the opportunity to discover solutions to advance their careers and their businesses. “This year’s education program line-up is truly outstanding,” said John Catalano, the show’s co-manager. “This is the most comprehensive program FABTECH has ever offered, providing a valuable learning experience for attendees in all aspects of metal

As in previous years, attendees can use the FABTECH site to view the list of exhibitors and even create a personalized show planner. And, for the first time this year, we’re offering something else to help attendees decide who to see during the show. A video contest! We’ve given FABTECH 2013 exhibitors one minute on camera to give their best pitch on why their booth is a “must-see” for show attendees.

• Green Industry News New Staco Literature Details Products to Help Companies “Green Up” their Operations and the Bottom Line Staco Energy Products has produced a new brochure which details their lineup of power factor correction products that help companies to more efficiently use their supplied power. Improving power factor can help companies “green” their operations by using energy more efficiently and it can have help save money as well. The new literature is available online at http://www.stacoenergy.com/ pdf/line-cards/PowerQualityCard_broprod.pdf or by contacting the company. Poor power factor plagues is caused by inherently inefficient motors – like those used on air conditioning/heating/ air movement systems, material handling equipment, pumps and motors used in process and manufacturing environments, and more. Staco power factor correction equipment is at use in many commercial and industrial environments. “If utility invoicing includes terms like ‘KVA demand’ or ‘adjusted (or billed) kw demand’ or ‘reactive power’” said Rich Zuccaro, Staco Power Factor Program Manager, “then they are likely paying a penalty or surcharge for poor power factor. If that is the case, then they can benefit from Staco power factor correction technology - often achieving payback in two years or less. In addition to being cost-effective, we offer products that are space-efficient, occupying a small footprint.”

suited for food and beverage, pharmaceutical, chemical, machine tool, production equipment, and other harsh application settings. The unit’s compact profile measures just 376 mm long x 56 mm wide x 20.5 mm high, yet outputs an ultra-bright, evenly distributed daylight illuminance of 1,200 lux: “Unlike other LED worklights that often produce the notorious ‘yellow ring’ effect that can result in eye strain, the CLKSA’s unique ‘micro-array lens’ evens out light refraction for more natural lighting and even light distribution,” says Paul Mizuki, Marketing Manager. “And the angled body and flat surface design of the CLK-SA delivers more than just a slim profile LED worklight; it also prevents dirt accumulation, enables oil and water to roll right off the surface and simplifies washdown and wipedown cleaning.” CLK-SA LED worklights operate on 24 VDC and consume just 12.5 W of energy. Optional M12 quick disconnect cables enable up to five CLK-SA units to be daisy chained together.

Dillon Chucks and Jaws introduces HPG500 – a premium boundary lubricant that prevents metal-to-metal contact under high load and slow speed conditions for either high-end manual chucks or power chucks. This premium, high-performance NLDI Grade 2, lubricating grease has exceptional mechanical stability, very high load carrying capacity, and excellent water and moisture resistance. It has a water washout rating of less than 3 % - making it one of the most water resistant products available. Plus, its unique formulation gives it outstanding rust and corrosion resistance, even in the presence of a synthetic and oil based coolant environment. This chuck lubricating grease handles high loads, and provides long term corrosion protection under the most hostile conditions.
An all-purpose industrial lubricant, HPG500 can be used in bearings, bushings, slides, pivots, tracks, etc., - all important engineering components of manual and power chucks. It is recommended wherever high lubricity, EP (Extreme Pressure) properties, mechanical stability, rust and corrosion protection, water washout protection, and good oxidation stability are required. Essential for the safe operation, and maintaining maximum gripping pressure of chucks, HPG500 is available in 14oz tubes. It can be purchased by the tube, in cases of 10 or 50 each. A greasing set, consisting of a grease gun, 2 tubes of grease and one grease adaptor fitting, is also available. HPG500 is also safe to use in your machine centers that require EPI grease.
Innegra H High-Performance Composite Fiber Innegra Technologies’ new Innegra H product line – a series of hybrid yarns for use in composite applications – is the first new product of its type in more than five years and is available at a significantly lower price point than similar composite fibers Innegra H can be used in most reinforcement and composite manufacturing processes and has numerous applications in a wide range of industries. Benefits range from, creating lighter weight and more impact resistant sporting equipment, to decreasing the weight of automotive body parts while reducing the danger of a crash-related catastrophic failure. Innegra Technologies also expects interest from the luggage, marine, ballistics and protective apparel industries – anywhere there is a need for adding value, safety, and durability to final composite parts. The Innegra H line, which will be honored with a JEC Americas Innovation Award at the upcoming October show, consists of high-performance olefin yarn co-mingled with other high-performance composite fibers, including aramid, basalt, carbon and glass to increase their durability and avoid the shattering effect of current lightweight composites. Hybridizing to gain performance is typicallyachieved at the fabric level or in multi-layer composite configurations. However, with Innegra H,hybridization is done at the filament level, allowing for a more homogeneous final part, resulting insignificantly improved impact and damage tolerance properties. The product will be jointly marketed by Innegra Technologies, Inc. and B&W Fiber Glass, a leading producer of technical fibers with deep expertise in the area of hybridization. Due to the growth in composite applications, as well as evolving performance requirements, Innegra H will deliver a new range of product development options for designers and engineers. Both companies expect strong industry interest in and adoption of this exciting new composite fiber series. “Clearly, the product fills a key industry need for stronger and more durable lightweight composite materials,” said Mark Smith, president, Innegra Technologies. “Before our launch we conducted thorough beta testing and shared our findings
with product engineers across our target industries, each of whom indicated an eagerness to use Innegra in their product improvement and development efforts. Simply put, this product has the potential to be a true game changer in terms of radically improving performance without the need to alter currently installed manufacturing technologies.”
