EXPORT LICENCE / DATES Export licences may be required for any lot manufactured or produced 50 years or more prior to the date of export from the U.K. It is the responsibility of the buyer to obtain the licence and correct documentation prior to the exportation of the lot.

RACING CARS & DOCUMENTATION Buyers are reminded that the presence of an old HVIF (FIA papers) or other documentation does not constitute a ‘promise’ on behalf of the MSA or other issuing authority that they will be re-issued on demand. A car’s application for a Historic Technical Passport will be subject to the prevailing regulation in Appendix K and can be reviewed, much the same way Veteran Cars can be re-dated, as new information comes to light. The Issuing Authority can refuse to issue new papers. Any prospective purchaser should check the position of the Lot prior to bidding. VETERAN CAR CLUB OF GREAT BRITAIN DATING PLATES AND CERTIFICATES When mention is made of the Veteran Car Club of Great Britain Dating Plates and Certificates in this catalogue it should be borne in mind that the Veteran Car Club of Great Britain does from time to time review cars already dated and, in some instances, where fresh evidence becomes available, alter the date. Whilst the Club makes every effort to ensure accuracy, the date shown on the Dating Plate or Dating Certificate cannot be guaranteed as correct and intending purchasers should make their own enquiries as to the date of the car. REMOVAL OF LOTS A representative of our preferred transport provider E.M. Rogers will be present at the sale to assist with any transport requirements. All lots are held at the purchaser’s risk at the fall of the

hammer and must be removed not later than 1pm on the day following the sale. Please note, if lot(s) are not removed by then the standard charges as stated in our Terms and Conditions will apply. VEHICLE IDENTITY & COMPETITION HISTORY Any motor vehicle is sold as a collector’s item and not as a means of transport. Buyers are specifically warned that any vehicle sold as such may well have had parts replaced and paint renewed or be made up of parts from other vehicles the condition of which may be difficult to establish. The Auctioneer has to rely on information as to the date, condition and authenticity provided by the Seller and does not provide its own description, and does not and cannot undertake its own inspection of vehicles or other Lot and it is the responsibility of the Buyer to ensure that the Lot conforms to the description in the catalogue. The Auctioneer cannot check or verify the authenticity of the chassis or VIN number under which a vehicle is offered, but relies on the Seller’s description. Buyers should take particular care to verify in advance the authenticity of a vehicle that is claimed to have important racing, rallying or ‘ex-works’ history as it was common in period for a competition vehicle of a single identity to have more than one chassis, body or other mechanical components. This may have happened several times, both in a vehicle’s ‘works’ career and thereafter in private owner hands. Sometimes ‘works’ vehicles were fitted with different registration plates, so that a vehicle could meet a particular event’s start date deadline. These historical factors may lead to there being in existence multiple and competing claimants to the same vehicle identity.

1965 MG Midget 1100

1

Current Ownership Since 1973 ESTIMATE: NO RESERVE* REG NO: UN-REG CHASSIS: GAN2-20876 This Midget was manufactured in 1965, fitted with the 1098cc A-series straight-four engine and with a four-speed manual transmission and supplied new to a Mr. William Leslie Stephens from Horley, Surrey being first registered on the 21st of January 1965. The MG Midget is finished in its original British Racing Green with Black interior upholstery. Having only six owners from new (the first two from the same family), the Midget entered current ownership in April 1973 before being taken off the road and put into storage in 1976. Staying in long-term storage from 1976 until 2011, whereupon the car was mechanically overhauled before entering back into storage. Recommissioned to running and driving condition again between 2013 and 2017, the MG was returned storage immediately after and will now require light recommissioning again. The MG is understood to have covered 65,163 miles from new until receiving a speedometer change in 2017. The replacement speedometer read 32,472 miles upon fitting, with no mileage since fitment. The Midget will need re-registering due to no longer showing on HPI and the length of time off the road without being SORN. However it is offered with the original RF60 logbook.

1934 Wolseley 9 Saloon

2

ESTIMATE: £5,000 - 7,000* REG NO: CV 9845 CHASSIS: 2684112 Intended to complement the six-cylinder Hornet, the four-cylinder Nine joined the Wolseley range for 1934. Based around a sturdy ladder-frame chassis equipped with all-round semi-elliptic leaf-sprung suspension and four-wheel hydraulic drum brakes, the newcomer was powered by a SOHC 1018cc engine allied to four-speed manual transmission. Surprisingly roomy despite its 7ft 9in wheelbase and 3ft 9in track, the `baby’ Wolseley was reputedly capable of 59mph. While, the vast majority of Nines were supplied as four-door saloons, just 7,201 are thought to have been made (though, the spilt between open and closed cars is unknown). Finished in Burgundy with Black wings this charming Nine is believed to be 1 of just 107 examples known to survive and was subject to a speedometer overhauled in 2015 followed by an engine overhaul in 2017. Offered with original spare parts list and instruction manual, collection of invoices and silent features manual the vendor currently considers the engine, transmission, bodywork, paintwork and interior trim all to be in `Good’ order. Amazing value for enjoyable vintage motoring.

1957 MG Magnette ZB

3

Highly credible 51,000 recorded miles ESTIMATE: £11,000 - 13,000* REG NO: MJG 365 CHASSIS: KAT13/20089 Launched at the October 1953 London Motor Show, the Magnette ZA sports saloon was styled by Gerald Palmer. Equipped with independent front suspension, rack-and-pinion steering and hydraulic drum brakes, the newcomer was powered by a 1.5-litre B-Series engine allied to four-speed manual transmission. Arriving in October 1956, the updated ZB version had been tuned to develop 68bhp @ 5,500rpm. The fastest ‘home market’ 1.5 litre saloon available, the more powerful Magnette accounted for 18,524 sales and won its class in the 1958 BRSCC Saloon Car Championship. Believed but not warranted to have covered just 51,000 miles from new on account of its delightfully well-preserved interior and notably smooth-running original engine, ‘MJG 365’ is said to be ‘a superb car that drives exceptionally well’. The vendor further considers it to be ‘a very straight original car which shows no signs of past welding or corrosion’. Resprayed in its initial Island Green livery at some stage, the MG carries stickers for maintenance at 41,862 and 43,391 miles to the inner face of its offside A-post. Worthy of close inspection and coming to market with a fresh MOT certificate, this wonderful Magnette is rated by the seller as being in ‘very good’ (bodywork, paintwork, interior trim) or ‘excellent’ (engine, gearbox, electrical equipment) condition.

1998 Rover Mini 1.3i Cooper

4

ESTIMATE: NO RESERVE* REG NO: R336 WOM CHASSIS: SAXXNNAZEWD155137 This 1998 example is finished in Nightfire Red metallic with beige / black interior and has covered just 48,750 miles. In the previous ownership for some twelve years, when owned by a mother and then her son, it was acquired by the vendor in 2018 with some 46,000 miles recorded. During the current ownership, maintenance and repair has included replacement of the tyres, dash, exhaust, and catalytic converter. Retaining the original radio cassette, R336 WOM is offered with Swansea V5, current MoT to 28 April 2022, its original book pack, two keys and a fitted cover. Offered at no reserve it is described as being in “excellent” condition as regards it bodywork, paintwork, interior, engine, and transmission. The Mini’s association with the Cooper Car Company of F1 fame was formed in 1961, and for the following decade or so all performance versions of the little car bore the Cooper badge until the relationship was shelved in the early 1970s. However, the Cooper name was to reappear under Rover’s control almost twenty years later. With the demise of the ‘old’ Mini model survivors have become increasingly sought after and the best low mileage cars especially so.

1935 Hudson Terraplane De Luxe Saloon

5

ESTIMATE: £6,000 - 8,000* REG NO: DPD 361 CHASSIS: 52-3049 Built to right-hand specification and first registered in Surrey on November 22nd 1935 (or so its ‘DPD 461’ number plate would imply), chassis 523049 had migrated to Buckinghamshire by the early 1950s. Pressed into service as a Hackney Carriage by Derrick McCarthy of Langley Motors, a role its commodious six-light saloon body was well suited to, the Hudson was sold to John Carter of Berkshire in 1967 who had its taxation class altered to ‘Private’ and colour changed to ‘Red/Black’. Known to have belonged to Timothy Kermode of Maidenhead and Philip Kendall of Manchester thereafter, the five-seater has been in the current family ownership since 1991. Driven some thirty miles to our offices in June 2021 and starting readily for our photography session, ‘DPD 461’ appears to be basically sound. The paintwork is microblistered and the front seat needs locating properly but the car has a certain ‘oily rag’ charm to it. One half of the bonnet has been replaced as has the carburettor. Taken by the vendor and his late father to numerous shows over the past thirty years, the Hudson has been kept in running order throughout and has not long benefited from a minor brake overhaul.

1965 MG B Roadster

6

Desirable ‘Pull-Handle’ Example ESTIMATE: £8,000 - 10,000* REG NO: PTU 139C CHASSIS: GHN3L40685 The first incarnation of the MGB built from 1962 to April 1965 featured distinctive pull-type door handles and a 95bhp/1798cc engine with three-main-bearing crankshaft and while overdrive was an optional extra, the model’s top speed was more than 100mph. This ‘pull-handle’ roadster was manufactured in 1965 as a left-hand drive export model. Fitted with the 1798cc straightfour B-series engine with manual transmission, the MG B is finished in red with grey leather with red piping interior upholstery. From the history file, the MG has spent time in both the Queensland area of Australia and a period across the 1980’s and 1990’s in Oklahoma, United States before being repatriated and UK registered in 1997. Converted to right-hand drive from the original left at some stage in its life, the MGB has been in current ownership since 2009 with two former keepers since repatriation in 1997. Accompanied by a history file that comprises a large quantity of paperwork relating to the repatriation; several past MOT certificates; a large collection of invoices; a few past tax discs and a current V5C.

1992 Porsche 944 S2 Cabriolet

7

c.38,000 Miles & One Private Owner From New ESTIMATE: £18,000 - 22,000* REG NO: T.B.A CHASSIS: WP0ZZZ94ZMN430834 Manufactured in 1992, this 944 Cabriolet was registered new in the UK on the 13th of February 1992 being supplied new by JCT600 Limited of Hull. Fitted with the 2990cc straightfour engine mated to a five-speed manual transmission. The 944 is finished in Blue metallic paintwork with Blue leather interior upholstery and a Blue hood. This example has only covered 37,845 miles from new (at time of consignment) and has had only one owner from new, with the one previous registered keeper being a business associated with the vendor. Specified from new with optional extras of headlamp washers; headlight aim control and leather seats, the S2 Cabriolet is accompanied by the original book pack; a large number of past MOT certificates and several old invoices. The book pack contains the stamped service book containing eight service stamps (all but one from JCT600, with the other being from Porsche Centre Leeds) and three brake fluid change stamps, also provided by JCT600. Last serviced at 34,778 miles, the Porsche is further supplied with a current V5C and an MOT until October 2021.

1986 BMW 525i

8

Company registered and then one private keeper from new ESTIMATE: £7,000 - 9,000* REG NO: D439 XRB CHASSIS: WBADA320807933307 Built on 23rd October 1986, chassis 7933307 was finished in Alpine White with Pacific Blue cloth upholstery. Fitted with a 2.5 litre (M30) straight-six engine allied to five-speed manual transmission, its impressive specification included a limited slip differential, electric sunroof, light alloy wheels, electric windows and front sports seats. First registered to Rosgill Holdings Ltd of Burton-on-Trent on 11th November 1986, the BMW is thought to have served its only private keeper – Bryan Downer – as a company car before being transferred into his name on 20th August 1991. Taken off the road two years later, the 525i was then dry stored for almost three decades. Recently recommissioned via the installation of a new fuel tank, replacement exhaust, fresh battery and general servicing, ‘D439 XRB’ passed its first MOT since the early 1990s with ‘no advisories’ on 26th February 2021. The sports saloon appears to retain the vast majority of its factory applied paintwork. The interior is a true timewarp. The How Many Left website indicates that less than a dozen E28 525i manual cars are currently known to the DVLA. Said to be ‘great fun to drive’, ‘D439 XRB’ is worthy of close inspection. A rare, practical and fun classic.

1979 MG B Roadster

9

46,000 miles ESTIMATE: £6,000 - 7,000* REG NO: CHASSIS:

DPL 516V GHN5 482377G

Introduced in 1962, the MGB Roadster enjoyed an eighteenyear production run. With nicely balanced handling and a good turn of speed, it merited the old MG marketing slogan ‘Safety Fast’. Based around a monocoque chassis featuring independent coil-sprung front suspension and a leaf-sprung ‘live’ rear axle, its 1798cc ‘B’ series four-cylinder engine was allied to four-speed manual transmission. Capable of over 100mph (especially if specified with overdrive), the provision of disc/drum brakes and rack and pinion steering greatly aided control. Today, it enjoys a very strong following and with its GT sister has spawned a dedicated support industry. Finished in Blue with Black upholstery, ‘DPL 516V’ is described by the vendor as being in ‘good’ (bodywork, paintwork, interior trim) or ‘very good’ (engine, four-speed manual plus overdrive gearbox, electrical equipment) condition. An older restoration, the 46,000 miles shown to its odometer is reportedly supported by ‘a file full of old MOTs and invoices’. Understood to have covered less than 4,000 miles since 2006, the Roadster is said to be ‘a very good driver’. Riding on correct-type Rostyle wheels and sporting a rollover bar for added safety, this tempting MG is offered for sale with V5C Registration Document, history file, fresh MOT certificate and spare keys.

1992 Carbodies Fairway Taxi

10

ESTIMATE: £7,000 - 9,000* REG NO: K133 EYV CHASSIS: SCRF3B3MXNC078029 The London Taxi Company was a taxi design and manufacturing company based in Coventry, England. It formerly traded as London Taxis International and Carbodies. Over 130,000 London black cabs have been produced at the London Taxi Company’s Coventry site over the past 60 years. Annual production averaged between 2,000 and 2,500 units per year. Around two-thirds of production goes into London via a dealership in Islington. This particular example of this iconic British stalwart of motoring, which is synonymous with London was arguably the best version of the iconic FX4 ever made. Fitted with a Nissan 2.7 litre diesel engine mated to an automatic gearbox ‘K133EYV’ has had just four former keepers and has been in current ownership since 2011. Offered with a collection of invoices, old MOT certificates and displays a credible but unwarranted 303,608 miles the vendor informs us the Taxi has been subject to general maintenance and two new rear doors under his ownership and currently considers the engine, transmission, interior to be in `Very Good’ order with the bodywork and paintwork all to be `Good’. Offered with an MOT certificate into August 2021. Great fun, practical and a real headturner.

1935 Morris Oxford Sixteen Saloon

11

ESTIMATE: £7,000 - 9,000* REG NO: APO 863 CHASSIS: 3508374 Bicycle manufacturer William Morris introduced his first car, the ‘Bullnose’ Oxford, in 1913 starting a tradition of Morris Oxfords that was to continue right up until 1971. Although smaller models- such as the ‘Minor’ and the ‘Ten’- were the mainstays of the range, Morris also maintained an interest in larger cars. A completely new car was announced for 1934 with a longer and stronger chassis and flexible mountings for the 2002cc engine whilst the gearbox gained synchromesh. Initially it kept the ‘Six’ name (reflecting the number of cylinders in the engine) but this changed to ‘Sixteen’ or ‘Twenty’ which came from the car’s tax horsepower category. Manufactured in 1935, this ‘Sixteen’ is fitted with the 2.0-litre straight-six engine mated to the four-speed manual gearbox. Attractively finished in Green and Black with Green leather interior upholstery, the Morris entered current ownership in 2011 as a restoration project. Restored across an eight-year timeframe by the vendor, the remedial works comprised a replacement ash frame from the A-pillars forward; new clutch; bodywork restoration and repaint; new brake and wheel cylinders; new radiator; interior refresh; new exhaust system and an engine service. Offered with the buff continuation logbook, handbook, a collection of MOTs and invoices and current V5C.

1994 Mercedes-Benz SL 280

12

ESTIMATE: NO RESERVE* REG NO: L888 MLB CHASSIS: WDB1290582F100546 Unveiled at the March 1989 Geneva Salon, Mercedes-Benz’s R129-series SL range was beautifully engineered. The choice of numerous contemporary F1 drivers and movie stars, it could be had with a choice of six, eight and twelve-cylinder engines. Powered by a 2799cc DOHC straight-six developing 190bhp/199lbft, the SL280 was reputedly capable of 0-60 mph in 9.5 seconds and 140 mph. Built in February 1994 for the UK market, chassis WDB1290582F100546 was specified with Imperial Red paintwork, Beige leather upholstery, five-speed automatic transmission, cruise control, Black fabric soft-top, airconditioning, rear seats and 8-hole alloy wheels. Acquired by its current (fourth) registered keeper in 1999, the Mercedes-Benz has since been treated to over £15,000 worth of maintenance and improvement work. No fewer than seventeen service stamps (the last one carried out circa 100 miles ago in September 2020) confirm that the SL280 has covered some 122,000 miles from new. Starting readily upon inspection and running well during our recent photography session, the past 6,000 miles have seen the 2+2-seater treated to a replacement steering box, uprated headlamp HID kit, new discs / pads all round and mid / rear stainless steel exhaust sections. A great summer cruiser, this tempting R129-series is offered for sale with book pack, history file and fresh MOT certificate.

1935 Ford Model 48 Five Window Coupe

13

ESTIMATE: £10,000 - 12,000* REG NO: UN-REG CHASSIS: 181797544 Introduced for 1935, the Model 48 featured a relocated 3622cc V8 sidevalve engine and transverse-leaf springs that sat outside its wheelbase. The result was `The Ford Centerpoise Ride - Smooth as a Swing’ and lower-slung bodywork the combination of price, practicality, and looks vaulted the company ahead of rival Chevrolet for the sales crown that year, with 820,000 units sold. A major advance was a true integrated boot on the saloons. A standard model and Deluxe option were available with extras being offered including an oil pressure gauge, two windscreen wipers instead of just one for the driver and a radio. Long sought after by the hot-rodding community the sale car is one such example. Imported into the UK in 2017 from Tennessee the Ford is offered with US Title and Nova import number. Fitted with a Chevrolet 327ci V8 engine, 4-barrel manifold plus 3-speed automatic transmission the vendor informs us the Ford will require a degree of recommissioning before returning to the road and currently grades the engine, transmission, interior, electrical equipment, bodywork and paintwork as ‘Average’. An unusual but rewarding project.

1974 Jaguar E-Type V12 Roadster

14

Matching Numbers, Home Market, Manual Car ESTIMATE: £40,000 - 50,000* REG NO: SAO 497N CHASSIS: 1S2577 According to HPi, this desirable, home market, Series III V12 Roadster has had just two former keepers and been in the current family ownership since February 4th 1983. Entered from a deceased estate, the two-seater has self-evidently been the subject of past restoration work. Equipped with the preferred four-speed manual gearbox, the Jaguar pleasingly retains its original 5.3 litre engine. Looked after for many years by a former Jaguar apprentice, Stephen Smith, the E-Type was MOT tested annually from 2006-2018 (covering a mere 3,000 miles in the process) and possesses a current MOT certificate valid until January 5th 2022. Treated to a new water pump and thermoswitch plus lubrication of all grease points in May 2019 and some minor recommissioning ahead of its most recent MOT pass earlier this year, the Roadster was repainted Primrose Yellow a few years ago and is thought to be free of any major structural corrosion. The careworn Black leather upholstery could well be original but the Black hood and matching hood cover look to have been renewed. The wooden boot floorboards are missing and the engine bay is scruffy. However, overall the car has an honest feel to it in keeping with its long-term ownership.

1947 MG TC

15

ESTIMATE: £12,000 - 14,000* REG NO: FSG 852 CHASSIS: TC3643 The TC was announced within five weeks of the end of WWII. The newcomer featured the familiar dual-cowl dashboard, fold-flat windscreen, cutaway doors, swept wings and rear mounted spare wheel of its predecessor. The major change was the welcome 4in increase in the width of the cockpit. Other refinements included: improved sidescreens, the replacement of the twin six volt batteries with a bulkheadmounted 12 volt one. Power came from MG’s proven 1250cc OHV XPAG unit, a slight rise in compression ratio lifting output to 54.4bhp and raising the top speed to almost 80mph. Though only available in RHD, it was exported worldwide, with exactly 10,000 examples produced before the model was replaced by the TD in 1950. Finished in the classic MG combination of Red matched to a Cream interior ‘FSG852’ has been in current family ownership since 2014 and is believed to have covered 127,000 miles. Subject to an engine overhaul in 2013 costing £2,606 and also receiving new axle shafts and splined hubs the MG is offered with Green logbook, collection of invoices, old MOT certificates back to 1988, weather equipment and V5c document. The vendor currently classes the bodywork, paintwork, interior trim and electrics as ‘Average’ with the engine and gearbox as ‘Good’. A great example to use and improve.

1951 Bentley MKVI

16

ESTIMATE: £24,000 - 26,000* REG NO: NTU 175 CHASSIS: B125LH First registered as ‘NTU 175’ to Rolls-Royce on 5th June 1951, this 4.25-litre MkVI was despatched to VickersArmstrong a week later, the two companies enjoying a close relationship borne out of WW2. Vickers retained the Bentley for three years. It then passed through the hands of three further keepers and has been registered to members of the same family since 1978. The MKVI is thus able to boast a known ownership chain from new. Accompanying paperwork includes the original Owners Handbook with handwritten notes relating to service works carried out in the 1960s, a total of 30 old MoTs dating back to 1965, various invoices, and the original buff logbook. The interior of the car is particularly impressive and still retains that distinctive and rather special ‘Bentley aura.’ Notably, the under dash toolkit is present and importantly, complete. The original under bonnet tools and jack etc are also all present, small details perhaps but all pointers to a long period of caring ownership. ‘NTU 175’ is described by the vendor as having ‘very good’ body, paintwork, interior and transmission with ‘good’ engine. He further informs us that the Bentley ‘has been recently serviced, is in good running order and pleasingly driving as a good MKVI should’.

1981 Austin Morris Mini 95 Van

19

ESTIMATE: £8,000 - 10,000* REG NO: DCA 489X CHASSIS: XLV10010770301 Introduced in January 1961, the Mini Panel Van was based around the same stretched platform as its Pick-Up sibling. Similarly exempt from sales tax as a commercial vehicle, it sported a pressed steel grille, sliding windows and external door hinges throughout its twenty-one year production life. Initially powered by an 848cc four-cylinder, it could be specified with the more powerful 998cc engine from 1967 onwards (both A-series units being mated to the same fourspeed manual transmission). Updated in late 1978 as the ‘Mini 95’ - its gross weight was 0.94 tons - the Panel Van was dropped from the range just four years later. Benefiting from a four-inch longer wheelbase, taller rear suspension turrets and under floor fuel tanks, the Pick-Up / Panel Van derivatives were arguably even more fun to drive than their saloon equivalents. Finished in Green with Black upholstery, ‘DCA 489X’ is described by the vendor as being in ‘poor’ (paintwork), ‘average’ (interior trim, bodywork) or ‘very good’ (engine, gearbox, electrical equipment) condition. Running and driving, this rare surviving Panel Van is summed-up as ‘a good, basically solid van’ and ‘a very worthwhile project’. The odometer shows an unwarranted 72,800 miles and the last MOT expired on 30th January 2019.

Initially available with a choice of 2.9 litre SOHC (165bhp/176lbft) or 3.6 litre DOHC (221bhp/248lbft) AJ6 straight-six engines allied to either five-speed manual or fourspeed automatic ‘J-gate’ transmissions, the XJ40 allowed potential purchasers to prioritise performance over economy and vice-versa. Though, the smaller powerplant still boasted 0-60mph in 9.9 seconds, 120mph and 29.7mpg. Finished in the fetching combination of Satin Beige Metallic with Chiltern Tweed cloth upholstery, ‘G104 PDB’ was supplied new to its sole registered keeper by Mead Jaguar of Bolton on 18th August 1989. Serviced by Mead twelve times up to 37,273 miles, the XJ6 now shows just 49,783 warranted miles to its odometer. Notably well preserved, the saloon has been kept in dehumidified dry storage for over a decade. 1936 Vauxhall DX 14/6 Saloon

22

ESTIMATE: £12,000 - 14,000* REG NO: FW 7376 CHASSIS: 647020 Despite producing some of the finest designs of the Edwardian period, Vauxhall was far from secure financially in the early 1920s and was acquired by General Motors in 1925. From then onwards the firm concentrated on solid, well-engineered models aimed at the middle classes. The DY/DX was introduced in 1935 with a 1782cc six-cylinder engine and independent front suspension. Both the DY 12hp and DX 14hp Light Six had a revised chassis to fit the Independent Front Suspension. Common body styles were the 4-door saloon and an open tourer. Manufactured in 1936, this Mk.1 DX 14/6 is fitted with the 1.8-litre straight-six engine mated to the manual gearbox. Attractively finished in Black and White with Green leather interior upholstery, the Vauxhall has a recorded mileage of just 67,431 miles from new (at time of consignment). Understood to have been supplied new to a doctor before passing to an RAF pilot based at RAF Scampton, the Vauxhall is thought to be the only example specified from new with polished alloy centres with steel rims. Restored approximately 26 years ago which comprised an engine overhaul, bodywork restoration and repaint, brake overhaul and a complete rewire. Offered with a current V5C and a selection of photographs from the restoration. Entering current ownership in 2016, ‘FW 7376’ has two former keepers showing on HPI.

1977 Fiat 124 Spider

23

ESTIMATE: £10,000 - 12,000* REG NO: VUG162R CHASSIS: 1240510128054 Introduced at the November 1966 Turin Salon, the Fiat 124 Sport Spider boasted a handsome two-door monocoque bodyshell that was not only styled but built by Pininfarina (though, Fiat assumed responsibility for final assembly). Incorporating such thoughtful features as intermittent wipers and a hood that could be raised in under twenty seconds, the Sport Spider proved a great sales success. A staple part of Fiat’s model range until 1982 just under 200,000 are thought to have been made (though, over eighty percent were shipped to North America). The sale car is finished in the contrasting combination of Black bodywork and hood and Beige leather interior. It’s believed to have been imported into the UK in 1998 from Florida, since when it has been converted from left to righthand drive by Europart of Matlock. It was also treated to a new mohair hood in 2015 and a complete engine overhaul in 2017 plus re-cored radiator. Offered with a collection of invoices and old MOT certificates the vendor now classes the 1.8-litre DOHC engine, bodywork, interior trim and five-speed manual transmission all as ‘very good’. This handsome Fiat currently displays a credible but unwarranted 59,400 miles as has been in current ownership since 2013. Great fun for the remaining summer months.

24

ESTIMATE: £5,000 - 7,000* REG NO: M546GAP CHASSIS: WDB1290632F121475 Faster, harder-edged and more driver-orientated than its R107 predecessor, the Mercedes-Benz R129-series SL was launched at the 1989 Geneva Motor Show. Brimful of cutting-edge technology, its impressively rigid two-door monocoque bodyshell featured an integral rollover bar that deployed in less than a third of a second (if the car ever sensed an impending flip) and a fully automatic convertible roof. Propelled by a variety of six- and eight-cylinder engines all allied to automatic transmission, it was the sportscar of choice for many contemporary F1 drivers. Finished in the attractive combination of Silver with Blue cloth check interior ‘M546GAP’ has covered 105,900 recorded miles and has been in current ownership since 2014. Subject to £6,177 worth of expenditure in 2014 which included a cylinder head overhaul, new radiator, wiring harness and new rear brake lines this well sorted SL is offered with a collection of invoices including the aforementioned work, both hard/ soft tops, old MOT certificates and a collection note from Germany as it is understood the first owner collected ‘M546GAP’ in person from the factory. 1924 Buick Tourer

26

ESTIMATE: £18,000 - 20,000* REG NO: BF9349 CHASSIS: 1075732 Comprehensively restored in the United States before importation into the UK in 2020 this LHD Model 24-35 Tourer is understood to be in outstanding condition. Benefiting from an engine overhaul prior to importation - the relevant paperwork has unfortunately been lost in transit - but the standard of the restoration will be clear from a visual inspection and the sound of the engine running. One of the first manufacturers to successfully experiment with overhead valve gear, Buick was also the keystone on which William C Durant founded his General Motors Empire in 1908. Known for the quality and sophistication of its designs, the Flint-based concern produced some 115,176 cars in 1920. The following year’s adoption of new construction techniques that allowed the tourers to dispense with their hitherto cumbersome secondary bulkheads saw demand boosted still further. Fielding a range of four- and six-cylinder equipped sedans and coupes alongside its more popular open models, Buick placed third behind Chevrolet and Ford in the 1923 sales charts with 201,572 leaving the factory. Finished in Green / Black with Black leather upholstery this lovely example is described as having “excellent” coachwork, paintwork, engine, transmission and interior and is now ready to be enjoyed. Offered with V5C.

29

ESTIMATE: £28,000 - 32,000* REG NO: D896 UTU CHASSIS: WDB1070462A050905 The mighty Mercedes R107-series SL was launched in 1971 to replace the long-lived - and loved - W113-series ‘Pagoda’ SL that had first appeared in 1963. Though dispensing with Mercedes’ usual model identification, it was based on the suspension of the W114 saloon and the model ran till 1989 with more than 237,000 examples built: with the exception of the G-Wagen, this was the longest single series ever produced by Mercedes-Benz. Plenty of R107s (and its longer-wheelbase coupe variant the SLC) come to market but 500SLs are still a rarity, with only 11,812 built. Finished in Champagne metallic with Brown upholstery, ‘D896 UTU’ has covered just 90,784 miles (atoc) from new. 1963 Trojan “Cabine” Bubble Car

30

ESTIMATE: £11,000 - 14,000* REG NO: 656 GOU CHASSIS: 9858 The Type 153 was Heinkel’s three-wheeled competitor to the BMW Isetta, Messerschmitt KR200 and other bubble cars of the austere late ‘50s/early ‘60s. Powered by a rear-mounted single-cylinder four-stroke engine of 204cc (later reduced to 198cc), it featured a front opening door plus a fabric sunroof that served both as a fair-weather accessory and escape hatch in the event of the door becoming jammed. European production was carried out in Germany from 1956 to 1958, Dundalk in Ireland from 1958 to 1960, and by Trojan Cars on the UK mainland from 1960 until the cessation of the model in 1966. First registered in Hampshire (or so its ‘656 GOU’ number plate would imply), this smart example has self-evidently been the subject an extensive mechanical and cosmetic restoration. Forming part of a private collection in recent years, the Trojan is described by the vendor as being in ‘very good overall’ condition with regards to its engine, transmission, electrical equipment, bodywork, paintwork and interior trim. However, he recommends that the Type 153 – although running and driving – be recommissioned / checked over before any serious usage is contemplated. Offered for sale with paperwork file.

Correspondence on file reveals that Henlys might have regretted the sale if only because the buyer was a gentleman used to getting his own way who had the Convertible returned to Browns Lane for a bare metal respray under warranty and complained about its noise levels at illegal speeds! Nevertheless, he returned the XJ-S to Henlys for servicing eleven times up to 69,099 miles. 1968 MG C GT

33

ESTIMATE: £14,000 - 18,000* REG NO: NUO808G CHASSIS: GCD114215 Intended to replace the Austin-Healey 3000, the MGC was introduced in the autumn of 1967. While early reports criticised its ‘nose heavy’ handling, later ones were much kinder and, with 145bhp on tap, the model could complete the 0-60mph dash in 10 seconds and achieve 120mph flat out. Nevertheless, it was axed in 1969 after just 4,544 Roadsters and 4,458 GTs had been made, somewhat prematurely when considering the success University Motors subsequently enjoyed with the model. Finished in old English White matched to a Black interior ‘NUO808G’ has been subject to much recent mechanical fettling which has included a new brake servo, wiring loom, 12v batteries, fuel tank, wheel refurbishment with new hub caps and tyres, carburettor overhaul, replacement dashboard and new interior carpets. This particular example is the sole model fitted with an automatic gearbox from new and features factory electric windows. TTX 40 was acquired by its current owner in 2018 and was subsequently subject to a mechanical recommissioning at a cost of over £4,000. The vendor rates the condition of the bodywork, engine, electrical equipment, transmission and interior trim as ‘Very Good’ with the paintwork ‘Good’. Included in the history file are a collection of invoices, with most from 2018, communications with the Daimler and Lanchester Owners Club and a collection of informative information.

1999 Daihatsu Cuore Avanzato TR-XXR4

36

ESTIMATE: £9,000 - 12,000* REG NO: T336 LGB CHASSIS: L5125003751 Among the most extreme Kei-class cars ever made, the Daihatsu Mira Avanzato TR-XX was introduced in 1994. Powered by a turbocharged 660cc DOHC four-cylinder engine allied to five-speed manual transmission, it was reputedly capable of 0-60mph in 8.5 seconds and 100mph. Designed with the motorsport in mind, the subsequent R4 version boasted a limited slip differential and permanent four-wheel drive. A true pocket-rocket with roadholding and handling capabilities that evoked a Subaru Impreza WRX or Mitsubishi Evo, some 100 examples were officially imported by Daihatsu UK (and marketed as ‘Cuore’ rather than ‘Mira’). Eighty were sold as road cars with the other twenty being sent to Harry Hockly Motorsport for use in a one-make Rally Championship. Though, inevitably crash damage saw quite a few road cars being used to re-shell their competition siblings. Still wearing its C.H. Bull & Sons supplier’s sticker, this UK-supplied example is warranted to have covered just 13,000 miles from new. Said to ‘drive beautifully’ and to be in a condition commensurate with its minimal mileage, the Daihatsu is due to possess a fresh MOT by the time of sale. Offered for sale with original sales brochure, book pack (including stamped service book), invoices and press cuttings etc.

1977 Saab 96 V4

1970 Jaguar E-Type 4.2 Coupe

39

ESTIMATE: £50,000 - 60,000* REG NO: CHASSIS:

YYT107H 1R 20593

The Jaguar E Type wowed the world upon its launch in 1961. Here was a sportscar that offered performance to beat Ferrari and Aston Martin at just half the price, wrapped up in a cigar-like body that was unlike any other contemporary sportscar. This combination of style, speed and value endeared it to the world’s elite and the E-Type was one of the coolest cars in which to be seen throughout the 60 and 70s. The range expanded with a 2+2 joining the coupe and roadster, evolving through steady stages until the final Series 3 V12s bowed out in 1975. According to its accompanying Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate, chassis number 1R20593 was manufactured on the 16th of December 1969 and despatched to Henlys of London a couple of weeks later. Finished in Primrose Yellow with Black leather upholstery and sporting the preferred four-speed manual gearbox, the Jaguar was supplied new on the 10th of March 1970. Acquired by the previous owner in 1996 it was then subjected to a bodywork and mechanical restoration by a renowned TT winning engine tuner with an accompanying photo file. Bought by the vendor in September 2007 it has only done about 6500 miles since, enjoying just a few dry summer days out. It comes with a V5C, Jaguar Heritage Certificate and old MOTs from 2006 to 2018.

1951 Bentley MKVI Saloon

40

Current ownership since 2000 ESTIMATE: £22,000 - 26,000* REG NO: PRB 745 CHASSIS: B395LH Introduced in 1946, the MKVI was Bentley’s first post-war model. Built around a massive cruciform-braced chassis with independent front suspension and a leaf-sprung ‘live’ rear axle, it was fitted with a freshly developed 4257cc OISE (overhead inlet side exhaust valve) straight-six engine mated to a four-speed manual gearbox. Capable of over 100mph when clad in the factory’s understated but stylish ‘standard steel saloon’ coachwork, the MKVI quickly developed a reputation for being a refined yet responsive drive. Finished in Shell over Tudor Grey matched to a Red leather interior ‘PRB745’ was supplied new by Kennings Ltd of Clay Cross, Derbyshire where it has always remained in the same area and is the 4th from last small-bore example made. Having been in current ownership since 2000 and displaying a credible but unwarranted 71,266 miles ‘PRB745’ is offered with Brown logbook, handbook, chassis card records, tool kit plus a collection of old MOT certificates. Previously subject to an engine and gearbox overhaul by the vendor and fitted with an S/S exhaust the vendor informs us it is a ‘Very’ solid example and currently grades the engine, transmission, interior, electrical equipment and bodywork as Very Good’ with the paintwork as ‘Good’.

1968 Rover 2000 TC

41

Entered from a private collection ESTIMATE: £5,000 - 7,000* REG NO: NHE106F CHASSIS: 41516080B Introduced in 1963, the 2000 was the sixth and last of the P-Series Rovers which began with the pre-WW2 Twelve. Designed in-house it bristled with innovation and was quite rightly the winner of the first-ever European Car of the Year Award. Braking was through discs all-round while fully-independent suspension comprised a novel de Dion arrangement at the rear and an equally unique rocker system operating horizontally-mounted coil springs at the front. The intention behind the latter was to create an engine compartment wide enough to accommodate Rover’s gas turbine unit, though this was never fitted to production vehicles. Initially powered by a 1978 cc (hence the 2000 name) OHC in-line four-cylinder unit, the maximum output was 90bhp at 5,000rpm. Some 322,302 P6 Rovers of varying engine capacity were produced before the model was superseded by the SD1 in 1977. Finished in Zircon Blue matched to a Cream leather interior the sale example is offered from a private collection and displays just 40,800 miles. Having been in current ownership since 1998 the vendor informs us he bought the Rover direct from its first and only other keeper. Offered with a collection of old MOT’s back to 1991 and V5c ‘NHE106F’ is currently classed as all ‘Good’ with regards to its bodywork, paintwork, interior trim, electrics, engine and gearbox.

1986 Jaguar XJ-S 5.3 HE

42

Entered from a private collection ESTIMATE: £8,000 - 10,000* REG NO: JSK 248 CHASSIS: SAJJNAEW3BC132516 A more relaxed and refined proposition than its E-Type predecessor, the XJ-S was a highly capable Grand Tourer. Introduced in July 1981, the so-called Series II variant was powered by a ‘High Efficiency’ (H.E.) version of Jaguar’s iconic 5.3 litre V12 engine which imbued it with better fuel economy, more power (299bhp/318lbft) and a higher top speed (152mph). While cosmetic changes encompassed the adoption of Starfish alloy wheels and burred elm wood veneers. Yet for all its performance capability, the Jaguar proved a refined and relaxing drive. Supplied new by Dutton Forshaw of Preston ‘JSK248’ is offered from a private collection, covered just 36,300 miles from new and has been in current ownership since 1998. Offered with bookpack, handbooks, service book stamped up to 1998 plus a collection of invoices and old MOT certificates back to 1992 at 25,404 miles. Recently subject to a new battery and two refurbished rear brake calipers the Jaguar has a current no advisory MOT into June 2021. The vendor currently classes the bodywork, paintwork, interior trim, engine, electrical equipment and gearbox as all being in ‘Good’ order. This wonderful XJ-S is a true timewarp.

1974 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow

43

Entered from a private collection ESTIMATE: £11,000 - 13,000* REG NO: 337 RUR CHASSIS: SRH19568 Launched in 1965, the Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow was a bold departure for the Crewe company. Their first monocoque design, it also benefited from olio-pneumatic rear suspension, power disc brakes and GM’s silken 400 series automatic gearbox (though, the latter was not adopted until 1968). Such ‘new technology’ did not encroach on the luxurious interior with its sumptuous leather hides, rich wood veneers and deep lambswool carpets. Performance from the smooth 6230cc V8 engine (upgraded to 6750cc in 1970) was assured, the car wafting forward on a seemingly unstoppable wave of torque. Still immensely cosseting to drive, Shadows offer a genuinely different ownership experience to their mass made peers. Finished in Silver Mink with Beige leather upholstery ‘337RUR’ is offered from a private collection and has covered just 54,800 miles from new. Having been in current ownership since 1992 ‘337RUR’ is offered with bookpack, handbooks and service book/service cards, collection of old MOT’s back to 1986 at 36,041 miles and current V5c. Supplied new by Mann Egerton & Co Ltd of Derby the Rolls is currently classed by the vendor as all ‘Good’ with regards to its interior, paintwork, electrical equipment, engine, gearbox and bodywork. A nice example.

1960 Austin-Healey ‘Frogeye’ Sprite

44

Entered from a private collection ESTIMATE: £13,000 - 15,000* REG NO: 406 PPD CHASSIS: AN539332 Intended as a spiritual successor to inexpensive pre-war sports cars such as the MG M-type or Austin 7 Nippy, the Austin-Healey Sprite was launched in May 1958. Fruit of the growing partnership between Donald Healey and Austin’s Leonard Lord, its design costs were kept to a minimum through some inspired BMC parts bin raiding. Built around a lightweight monocoque, it combined the Austin A35’s independent front suspension and four-speed gearbox. Powered by a twin-carburettor fed 948cc A-series four-cylinder engine developing some 43bhp and 52lbft of torque, it was capable of over 80mph. Credit for the Frogeye’s wonderful styling lies with both Gerry Coker and Les Ireland. Put on sale for just £669 including purchase tax rarely before or since has a sports car enjoyed such a large fun-to-price ratio. Finished in Pale Blue matched to a Dark Blue interior ‘406PPD’ has been in current ownership since 1991. Entered from a private collection the vendor informs us he has competed in numerous classic rallies with the Sprite with no problems. Subject to a previous self-evident restoration the Sprite is offered with Green logbook, collection of old MOT certificates, old Tax discs and V5c. The vendor currently classes the bodywork, paintwork, interior trim, electrics, engine and gearbox all as ‘Good’. Great fun for the remaining summer months.

1972 De Tomaso Pantera GTS

45

Rare European Specification Example ESTIMATE: £70,000 - 80,000* REG NO: YOD 772K CHASSIS: THPNMK03840 Originally supplied by Achilli Motors in Milan, Italy and later exported to the US (returning to Europe in 2013), when a major restoration commenced. This rare GTS is finished in red and black with DeTomaso decals and gold wheels (front wheels are magnesium 8” by Campagnolo and rears are alloy 10” by Ronin Industries, Italy). All suspension components were stripped, cleaned, powder coated, re-bushed and then re-fitted, ball joints and drive shafts were also replaced. The gearbox was stripped, checked and then rebuilt with a new slightly lighter than original clutch which is reputedly ‘good for 350 bhp’. The engine was stripped, cleaned checked and rebuilt replacing components where necessary. ‘YOD 722K’ is currently running on a 600 Holley carburettor with Pertronix electronic ignition and a more modern high torque starter motor. The interior has been re-trimmed and fitted with rake adjustable seats for comfort (original seats are supplied with the car and have been re-trimmed). 1931 Lagonda 3-Litre Low Chassis Saloon

46

The Subject of over £29,500 in Expenditure Since 2015 ESTIMATE: £48,000 - 55,000* REG NO: PN 7423 CHASSIS: Z9861 This 3-Litre Lagonda was acquired by the Litchfield Collection in September 1981 and is currently panelled in metal, although Lagonda Club records show that its coachwork was originally of the semi-fabriccovered type - the upper sections of all four doors still retaining this material. The car was offered for sale at auction in November 2008 and was purchased by prolific collector Stan Cale. By the time of his passing in 2013, the car remained in a non-running state and was bequeathed to his son Andrew. The services of respected Wakefieldbased restorer Bob Fenton were called upon and he carried out in excess of £29,500 of renovation work to put the car back into running order over subsequent years. This included the removal of much of the drivetrain, freeing off the seized engine, overhaul of the braking system, together with attention to the electrical components, paintwork and wheels/tyres. Starting readily upon inspection and running well during our recent photography session, the Lagonda remains presentable and useable despite approximately six years of inactivity - it will therefore require some recommissioning by the purchaser. Retaining its original stylish closed cockpit coachwork, PN 7423 is offered for sale with a current UK V5c registration document and small history file containing one 1981-dated MOT certificate and correspondence with the Lagonda club and Bob Fenton.

1947 Allard K1

47

Period Competition History and Unique Coachwork by Performance Cars Ltd ESTIMATE: £60,000 - 65,000* REG NO: CHASSIS:

UMX 82 71K 262

According to the supplied copies of Allard factory build ledgers, ‘71K 262’ was supplied new to Performance Cars Ltd of Dagenham as a bare chassis and was seemingly completed over a two year period by their in-house coachbuilders. ‘UMX 82’ was configured with completely unique open two-seater touring body, arguably more stylish and practical than the factory-bodied cars with a more aggressive front-end, curved shorter doors and a large hinging bootlid. First registered in 1949, the first decade of the car’s life remains uncertain, however the continuation ‘concertina’ logbook states the Allard was in the possession of keen racer Anthony R. Pickering of Malpas, Cheshire by April 1958. A 1968-dated letter from well-known rally driver Peter Valentine indicates the car’s first and previous owner was a Mr. J. Kempe-Roberts who is understood to have also regularly competed. Passing into the hands of our vendor in 2013, a full and comprehensive restoration began over a seven year period, with work carried out by respected restorer Bob Fenton. Parts were supplied by O’Neill Ford and Belcher Engineering (including sourcing a correct specification re-con gearbox). Offered for sale with a current UK V5c registration document and small history file containing a ‘concertina’ folding logbook, photographs of the car before the restoration commenced, various receipts, a souvenir programme featuring the car and correspondence covering many decades.

2007 Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet

48

ESTIMATE: £48,000 - 54,000* REG NO: YD57 VPR CHASSIS: WP0ZZZ99Z8S786216 Not surprisingly, given the Type 996’s wholesale re-engineering, the successor Type 997 - introduced in 2004 - represented evolution rather than revolution, the most significant changes being to the interior and exterior styling. The latter marked a welcome return to the 911’s traditional oval headlights, and the interior too was more classic 911 than that of the outgoing 996. Open cars typically suffer an inferior performance when compared with their closed cousins, but not the Turbo Cabriolet, which gave next to nothing away to the Type 997 Coupé, its maximum speed being around 193mph. Manufactured in 2007, this Turbo Cabriolet was supplied new to the United Kingdom and first registered on the 8th of September 2007. Fitted with the Tiptronic gearbox, this example is finished in Black with a Black leather interior and has covered just 49,586 miles from new. Entering current ownership in 2014, although a subsequent keeper change is showing due to transfer into the vendors business, with the Porsche having six owners from new (seven showing on HPI with the additional keeper change). Benefitting from £3,400 worth of expenditure at Porsche Cheshire Oaks in 2014, the Turbo is further offered with the stamped service book and other service records that illustrate five services with the most recent completed at the Porsche Centre Bolton at 48,615 miles. Accompanied by a quantity of past MOT certificates and V5C document.

1958 Dodge Royal Lancer Two-Door Hardtop Coupe

49

Part of a Chrysler collection for thirty years ESTIMATE: £21,000 - 24,000* REG NO: UN-REG CHASSIS: LD21368 A golden era in automotive design, the mid-to-late 1950s saw America’s Big Three vying to outdo each other when it came to extreme styling. The ‘Forward Look’ aesthetic pioneered by Chrysler’s Virgil Exner saw him crowned the unofficial ‘King of the Tailfin’. Refined in the University of Michigan’s wind tunnel, one of its most extreme interpretations was found on the 1958 Dodge Royal. Finished in Blue over White with Two-Tone Blue cloth upholstery, this fabulously over the top Dodge Royal Lancer is described by the vendor as being in ‘very good’ (bodywork, paintwork, interior trim) or ‘excellent’ (V8 engine, electrical equipment, automatic transmission) condition. Reportedly part of a Chrysler collection for thirty years, it is further understood to have been treated to much restoration work in 2016-2017 including engine and automatic gearbox overhauls plus a new exhaust, interior and brakes. Rating the Coupe as ‘a very powerful driver with a clean undercarriage that seemingly needs nothing to be enjoyed’, the seller also notes the four- / five-seater has ‘good chrome and two small dents to the rear bumper’. Resident in the dry state of Arizona until earlier this year, the Dodge has had duties paid into Europe and will be NOVA declared upon sale.

1958 MG A 1500 Roadster

50

ESTIMATE: £15,000 - 17,000* REG NO: PFO 281 CHASSIS: HDR43/57499 The Syd Enever-designed MGA was a breath of fresh air for the Abingdon marque, as it replaced the last of the venerable T Series cars, whose origins dated all the way back to the TA of 1936. Launched at the 1955 Frankfurt Motor Show, it featured a separate chassis penned by Roy Brocklehurst and was powered by the 1489cc straight-four BMC B Series engine. Suspension was independent with coil springs at the front and by live axle hung on semi-elliptic leaf springs at the rear. Braking was by Lockheed drums all-round, and steering was by rack and pinion. This MGA 1500 was manufactured in 1958 and was manufactured in left-hand-drive for the North American market and originally finished in Old-English white. Fitted with the 1500cc B-series straight-four engine mated to the manual transmission. Now finished in red, the MGA features red leather interior upholstery. Repatriated in 1996, ‘PFO 281’ entered current ownership in 2016 and has had only three former UK keepers. The MG is due to be driven to the sale and is offered with a current V5C.

32,000 miles from new ESTIMATE: £9,000 - 11,000* REG NO: DDK 131W CHASSIS: GVGEJ1AG516767 Introduced in 1965, the MGB GT was a more comfortable and versatile proposition than its roadster sister. With a top speed of over 100mph courtesy of its 1798cc B-series engine and a capable chassis featuring independent front suspension, rack and pinion steering and disc / drum brakes, the enclosed 2+2-seater merited the old MG marketing slogan ‘Safety Fast’. Finished in Black with Black leather upholstery, this smart looking GT is warranted to have covered just 32,000 miles from new (accruing less than 1,000 of those since 2006). Boasting a period ‘Sport T Top’ twin-pane glass sunroof, the 2+2-seater is described by the vendor as being in ‘very good’ (bodywork, paintwork, interior trim) or ‘excellent’ (1.8 litre engine, four-speed manual plus overdrive gearbox, electrical equipment) condition. Pleasingly retaining its full book pack including the ‘Passport to Service’ with six stamps, the MG is said to be ‘very nice underneath and in the engine bay’ with the latter sporting what appears to be an aluminium undertray. Converted to run on unleaded and reportedly ‘lovely to drive’, this striking GT is worthy of close inspection and offered for sale with V5C Registration Document, book pack, fresh MOT and numerous old MOTs / invoices.

1928 Sunbeam 25HP Tourer

53

ESTIMATE: £35,000 - 45,000* REG NO: RM 6740 CHASSIS: 1130LK Beginning life as a Saloon or Limousine, this imposing Sunbeam is understood to have acquired its current lightweight Tourer coachwork – which was reputedly first fitted to a Lagonda – in circa 1970. Retaining its original 25hp running gear, the four-seater is powered by a 3.6 litre OHV straight-six engine allied to four-speed manual transmission. Semi-elliptic springs up front are complemented by cantilever springs to the rear and the four-wheel drum brakes enjoy a degree of servo assistance. Boasting much the same road presence as a WO Bentley costing ten times as much, ‘RM 6740’ has been ‘breathed on’ with a bespoke inlet manifold hosting triple SU carburettors. Other modifications include the addition of an alternator, coil ignition and a facet fuel pump. However, the original Autovac, dynamo and magneto all remain in situ should a new owner wish to reinstate them. Belonging to its previous keeper for twentyone years, the Sunbeam was looked after during that time by James Hewing of Haslemere. Reportedly treated to some £9,000 worth of expenditure during 2017-2018 including the installation of a new 4.0:1 crown wheel and pinion and replacement half shafts, the Tourer is described by the seller as being in ‘good overall’ condition with regards to its engine, gearbox, electrical equipment, bodywork and paintwork.

54

1 of just 374 home market examples ESTIMATE: £45,000 - 55,000* REG NO: CHASSIS:

ULU540F 1E 21707

For many people, the E-Type remains the ultimate production Jaguar. A car whose heady blend of styling and performance were so exceptional at its 1961 Geneva Motor Show launch they continue to cast a smooth, elliptical shadow over the marque’s new sports cars some 55 years later. Never officially referred to as such by Jaguar, the so-called ‘Series 1.5’ cars appeared in late 1967. With its flowing lines and wonderful 4,235cc 6-cylinder overhead camshaft engine, the ‘Series 1.5’ Jaguar E-Type fixed-head coupe has to be one of the finest sporting cars of its era. 1 of just 374 home market examples ‘ULU540F’ is finished in Dark Blue, its original colour on the date of despatch on the 19th December 1967 to its original distributor Henly’s of London. 57

1 of just 160 examples ESTIMATE: £50,000 - 55,000* REG NO: SVR532W CHASSIS: 37037 In 1975 Ferrari had introduced a 2.0-litre version of the Dino 308GT4 - the 208GT4 - to take advantage of the Italian market’s vehicle taxation system, and it did the same following the introduction of the successor 308 GTB and GTS models in 1980. The 208 GTB and GTS used the same V8 engine, with reduced bore size for a capacity of 1,991cc which was Ferrari’s solution to avoid Italy’s 38-percent VAT on cars with engines over 2.0 liters. Finished in the classic Ferrari combination of Rosso Corsa matched to a Cream leather interior ‘SVR532W’ was first registered in 1981 in Italy and is understood to have remained in its home country until 2015 when it was imported into the UK. 1947 Morgan 4/4 Series I

60

Current ownership since 1966 ESTIMATE: £26,000 - 30,000* REG NO: OAA 881 CHASSIS: 1744 Morgan made its name with its fearsome brand of three-wheelers and the 4-4 (later 4/4) was its first four-wheeled creation (4-4 signifying four wheels and four cylinders). Launched in 1936, it was initially powered by an 1122cc OISE four-cylinder Coventry Climax engine, but this was superseded in 1939 by a 1267cc Triumph unit driving through a Moss gearbox. It proved deservedly popular and, by 1939, 663 Two-Seater examples had been produced. Like its earlier brethren, the 4-4 was quick to prove its worth in competition contesting such blue riband events as the Tourist Trophy (1937) and Le Mans 24 hours (1938, 1939). Indeed, Prudence Fawcett and her co-driver Geoffrey White won their class and finished 13th overall during the 1938 running of the latter event. Finished attractively with Red coachwork and Black wings ‘OAA881’ has been in current ownership since 1966 and displays 53,368 miles. Registered new in France the Morgan was repatriated in the 1950’s. Subject to an extensive restoration in 1998 by Four Elms Morgan which included a new chassis, Ash frame and new wiring loom ‘OAA881’ has also benefited from a previous engine overhaul with the dashboard French polished by sculpture Rowland Emett. Offered with Brown logbook, collection of invoices, old MOT’s and workshop manual the vendor currently grades the engine, transmission, interior, electrical equipment, bodywork and paintwork all as ‘Very Good’.

1976 Ferrari 308 GTB ‘Vetroresina’

61

1 of Just 154 UK-Supplied Examples and Two Owners From New ESTIMATE: £90,000 - 110,000* REG NO: OPC 97R CHASSIS: 19907 Supplied new in September 1976 and registered by Maranello Concessionaires for their own use, ‘OPC 97R’ was specified in striking ‘Blu Dino’ with contrasting beige leather, ‘period’ brown carpets and air conditioning. The Egham-based home of all things Ferrari retained the car for twelve months, later selling it to Mr. Lambert of Banbury on the 18th September 1977. Paperwork on file documents a full service history - Maranello Concessionaires (1977 - 79), Modena Engineering (1979 -1981), Rardley Motors (1982 - 1993), Alscot Park Garage, later trading as Ginger Tom (c1995 - 2013) and Wren Classics (2017 - present). Seemingly retaining the majority of its factory paintwork and all-original interior; the bootlid, nearside rear wing, door, front wing and bonnet were freshened in 1989. Mr Lambert sadly suffered a spinal injury in 2016 and decided to part with the car after forty-plus years of ownership. Offered through Brightwells’ June 2017 ‘Bicester Classic and Vintage’ sale, the 308 GTB exceeded all pre-sale expectations by some margin, entering ‘the trade’ at a figure of £122,200.00 - The v5c registration document therefore lists just Mr. Lambert and one previous keeper - the supplying dealership Maranello Concessionaires. A truly unique opportunity to purchase a rare ‘dry sump’ 308 GTB with an enviable checklist - highly original ‘timewarp’ condition, finished in a rare and iconic colour, with low ownership, warranted mileage and a factory toolkit.

1936 Railton Eight Fairmile II Drophead Coupe

62

1 of just 35 known survivors and a former prize winner ESTIMATE: £30,000 - 40,000* REG NO: MG 5013 CHASSIS: 644877 A notably early Fairmile II Drophead Coupe with a side- rather than rear-mounted spare wheel, chassis 644877 was supplied new by University Motors of London and thus wears one of the ‘MG’ number plates that they effectively monopolised during the 1930s. Off the road for many years before being re-registered with the DVLA in 1983, the Railton was still very much a restoration project when acquired by the vendor’s father later that decade. A pattern maker by trade, he undertook a photographically documented body off, chassis up renovation which tested his considerable skill set to the full. Completed three decades ago with assistance from various family members, the work has stood the test of time well. The doors have begun to scuff the bottom of their apertures and there are a few cosmetic imperfections but overall you can see why the four-seater completed so many rallies and won numerous awards. Driven some thirty miles to our offices in June 2021 and starting readily for our recent photography session, ‘MG 5013’ pleasingly retains its original body plaque, Hudson ‘Power Dome’ ally cylinder head and height adjustable driver’s seat. A decidedly rare Post-Vintage Thoroughbred that is capable of keeping up with modern traffic. Offered for sale with V5C Registration Document and restoration photographs.

1971 Jaguar E-Type V12 Coupe

63

Desirable Right-Hand Drive, Home Market, Manual Example ESTIMATE: £40,000 - 50,000* REG NO: WKY 659K CHASSIS: 1S50698 By 1971, Jaguar’s jaw-dropping E-Type had been in production for a decade. Despite continual improvements, new emissions legislation in the all-important American market threatened to strangle the big cat’s performance. Jaguar responded by giving its revered sports car fresh claws in the shape of a 5343cc V12 developed from the stillborn XJ13 Le Mans project car. The new engine was both effortlessly powerful and eerily refined. With some 272bhp and 304lbft of torque on tap, the Series 3 E-Type once again had 150mph in its sights. A revised wheelbase yielded better cabin space, while a wider track front and rear, new antidive front suspension geometry and fatter tyres improved the road holding. Imbued with a more muscular stance thanks to its flared wheel-arches, re-profiled wings and larger grille, it also benefited from vented disc brakes and a restyled interior. This home-market, right-hand-drive example was manufactured in 1971. Fitted with the 5343cc V12 engine mated to the desirable manual gearbox. In current ownership since 2018, with four former keepers showing on HPI. Having covered only 35,126 miles from new (at time of consignment), the E-Type is offered with a history file that contains over 25 MOT certificates, numerous invoices, several tax discs, original handbook and current V5C. Subject to a new alternator, shock absorbers and brakes in 2018.

1993 Vauxhall Lotus Carlton

64

1 of just 284 made ESTIMATE: £38,000 - 42,000* REG NO: L753 OMP CHASSIS: SCC000019N1259307 Main dealer serviced at 1,434, 7,853, 17,726, 26,888, 35,795, 44,493 and 54,000 miles, ‘Number 866’ had covered some 57,875 miles by the time that John Farnsworth Esq. bought it from Gade Autos of Hemel Hempstead on 7th July 2001. The latter returned the super saloon to the Vauxhall network for various jobs before selling it to Hugh Garrett Esq. in 2012 at some 75,000 miles. The result of a lengthy search to find the most structurally sound example he could, ‘L753 OMP’ was sparingly used whilst part of Mr Garrett’s private collection. Purchased by the vendor because his father had already had a Lotus Carlton for many years, ‘Number 866’ still shows less than 78,000 miles to its odometer. No stranger to high performance machinery, the seller treated the Vauxhall to refurbished alloys, new Toyo Proxes T1 tyres and a professional suspension set-up. The Imperial Green metallic paintwork remains highly presentable as does the Anthracite leather upholstery (with the exception of the offside rear passenger headrest stitching). Pleasingly retaining its original space saver spare wheel, this iconic 1990s super saloon is offered for sale with original Service Literature binder, book pack, assorted invoices and MOT valid until April 2022.

2004 Land Rover Defender 110 TD5

65

Only c.52,000 Recorded Miles and Two Keepers ESTIMATE: £18,000 - 22,000* REG NO: VIG 3392 CHASSIS: SALLDHA573A647284 The Land Rover was launched in 1948 and, incredibly, production of the traditional Defender only finished in January 2016 after a continuous run of 67 years. Outwardly, there is little to distinguish the post-1983 vehicles from the Series III Land Rover. Internally, coil springs offered a more comfortable ride and a permanent four-wheel-drive system derived from the Range Rover featuring a two-speed transfer gearbox with a lockable centre differential. A modernised interior and a new series of progressively more powerful and modern engine characterised things under the skin. The Defender was fitted with an all-new 2.5-litre, five-cylinder in-line turbo/diesel engine and is mated to a five-speed manual transmission. Manufactured in 2004, the Defender was initially registered to the UK Ministry of Defence under registration number ‘AW 99 AB’. With only one subsequent keeper since leaving M.O.D ownership, the Land Rover was subsequently restored in 2020. With just 52,664 recorded miles at the time of consignment, ‘VIG 3392’ is offered with a current V5C and paperwork relating to the Land Rover’s registration to the M.O.D.

1986 Ford Capri 2.8i

66

ESTIMATE: £12,500 - 15,000* REG NO: D974 XAV CHASSIS: WF0CXXGAECGS34626 Performance flagship of the Ford Capri MKIII range, the 2.8 Injection was introduced in 1981. Powered by a lusty Cologne V6 engine allied to four-speed (and later five-speed) manual transmission, it was capable of 0-60mph in 7.8 seconds and 130mph. Finished in striking Rosso Red with Grey Recaro interior, ‘D974 XAV’ was supplied new to a certain Miss Sharp and then later owned by the engineer Ken Costello (of MGB GT V8 development fame). Accompanying paperwork includes the Ford’s first ever MOT certificate, original service book, owner’s handbook, numerous old MOTs and assorted invoices etc. Dry stored for seven years prior to being acquired by renowned car dealer, collector and historic racer John Brown in 2012, he then set about restoring the Capri. Stripped down, the bodyshell was refurbished and the mechanicals gone through. The Cologne V6 was thoroughly overhauled and tuned to develop a claimed twenty percent more power. The suspension bushes and ball joints were replaced, the interior leather re-upholstered and new tyres fitted etc. Having covered less than 1,000 miles since its refurbishment was completed in 2014, ‘D974 XAV’ remains highly presentable. The vendor informs us that this appealing ‘Fast Ford’ runs and drives well and will be presented for sale with a fresh MOT certificate.

1989 Jaguar XJ6 Sovereign 3.6

67

Ultra rare five-speed manual example ESTIMATE: £5,000 - 7,000* REG NO: JSV 515 CHASSIS: SAJJHALH7AA592352 Finished in the elegant combination of Arctic Blue Metallic with Barley leather upholstery, chassis 592352 is notable for having been specified with the larger 3.6 litre DOHC straightsix engine and Getrag five-speed manual transmission. The vast majority of XJ40s were equipped with automatic transmission and the manual gearbox, when ordered, was typically mated to the smaller 2.9 litre powerplant. Sportier and more engaging to drive than its appearance might otherwise suggest, the XJ6 was supplied new to J.H. Foster Esq by Appleyard Jaguar of Harrogate on August 1st 1989 and serviced no fewer than twenty times up to 104,800 miles (less than 100 miles ago). Presenting far better internally and externally than one might expect of a Jaguar with a six-figure odometer reading, the four-seater has obviously been much loved. Taken in and out of dehumidified dry storage over the past twenty-one years, ‘JSV 515’ passed its first MOT test in a decade with no advisories on 8th April 2021. Pleasingly retaining its original book pack and ‘wolf in sheep’s clothing appeal’, this highly unusual XJ40 would doubtless be welcome at JEC and JDC events.

1965 Jaguar MK X 4.2 Litre

68

ESTIMATE: £22,000 - 26,000* REG NO: ECA 292C CHASSIS: 1D51855BW The MK X’s wider track, lower roofline, quadruple headlamps and squat, vaned radiator grille heralded a new image for the marque. It was the first Jaguar Saloon to feature independent rear suspension, while the front had the proven set-up of double wishbones and coil springs. At launch it was powered by a 3.8-litre version of the company’s ubiquitous straightsix, DOHC XK engine. However, upgrades for 1964 included: an increase in capacity of the standard engine to 4.2-litres and a new all-synchromesh, four-speed manual gearbox. Braking was by discs all-round and power-assisted steering was standard. By the time of the 1966 London Motorshow, the range had been renamed 420G, some 5,763 of which were built before the model was superseded by the XJ6.. 1 of just 3,719 MK X 4.2 Litre cars made to RHD specification ‘ECA292C’ has had just two owners since 1997 and previously featured in Jaguar Enthusiast Monthly magazine. The subject of much past restoration work not to mention an LPG conversion and beautifully retrimmed Beige leather upholstery the MK X is offered with a history file and the vendor currently classes the engine, gearbox, interior trim, electrical equipment and bodywork, as ‘Very Good’ and the paintwork as ‘Good’.

1973 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow

69

Current family ownership since 2001 ESTIMATE: £6,000 - 8,000* REG NO: SPD637L CHASSIS: SRH15394 The Shadow’s arrival in 1965 was none too soon and did much to reverse the notion that Rolls-Royce was falling behind the times. It resulted in many firsts for the company, including: unitary construction rather than separate body/ chassis units, disc rather than drum brakes and independent rear suspension. Though shorter and narrower than the Silver Cloud III it replaced, the John Polwhele Blatchleypenned newcomer nevertheless possessed greater space for both luggage and passengers and certainly boasted far more contemporary looks. At launch it was powered by a 172bhp V8 engine of 6230cc, though this was enlarged to 6750cc during 1970. The car’s famed ‘magic carpet’ ride was achieved courtesy of a high-pressure hydraulic system licensed from Citroen. Finished in Dark Blue matched to a Black leather interior ‘SPD637L’ has covered 124,900 miles from new and has been in current family ownership since 2001. Offered with a collection of invoices, drivers handbook, original sales brochure and old MOT certificates back to 1983 at 87,417 miles. Included in the sale is a detailed mechanical report from 2020 and the vendor currently grades the engine, transmission, interior, bodywork and paintwork as ‘Good’ with the electrical equipment as ‘Average’.

1999 Jaguar XJ8 4.0

70

Two former keepers and 64,000 miles from new ESTIMATE: £6,000 - 7,000* REG NO: T85 SBV CHASSIS: SAJJJALD3CH875552 Penned by Geoff Lawson and stylistically indebted to its XJ6 (X300) predecessor, the XJ8 (X308) was launched in 1997. Powered by a new generation of 3.2 or 4.0 litre AJ-V8 engines, it was a strong performer with the latter unit developing 290bhp and 290lbft; outputs sufficient for 0-60mph in 6.9 seconds and 150mph. Hailed by Motor Trend magazine as a ‘musclecar in a tuxedo . . . that gets sweeter by the mile’, the XJ8 4.0 is an undoubted modern classic. Reputedly 1 of just 8,369 XJ8 4.0 cars made, chassis SAJJJALD3CH875552was supplied new by Thornes Jaguar of Wakefield. Finished in special order Antigua Blue Metallic with Cashmere leather upholstery, its impressive specification also included an XJR-style mesh grille and factory sunroof. Retained by its first owner for eighteen years, the four-seater has covered just 64,000 miles (a figure substantiated via eight service stamps). Described by the vendor as being in ‘very good’ (bodywork, paintwork, interior trim) or ‘excellent’ (4 litre V8 engine, automatic transmission, electrical equipment), he further informs us that ‘T85 SBV’ is ‘lovely to drive with no known issues’. A stunning looking machine, it is offered for sale with book pack and ‘no advisories’ MOT certificate valid until June 2022.

36,000 miles from new ESTIMATE: NO RESERVE* REG NO: BG53 ARU CHASSIS: SARRJSLPB4D311886 A clean sheet design developed during BMW’s custodianship of Rover, the 75 won What Car magazine’s ‘Car of the Year’ award in 1999. Allying modern dynamics to pleasingly retro styling (both inside and out), the newcomer could be had with a range of petrol and diesel engines (1.8 – 2.5 litres) mated to either manual or automatic transmission. Available in Classic, Club or Connoisseur trim levels (with an SE variant of each), the 75 was never achieved the commercial successful it deserved. Finished in Silver with Dark Grey cloth upholstery, this particular example is described by the vendor as being in ‘very good’ (bodywork, paintwork, interior trim) or ‘excellent’ (1.8 litre engine, five-speed manual gearbox, electrical equipment) condition. Showing one former keeper on its V5C Registration Document, ‘BG53 ARU’ is warranted to have covered just 36,000 miles from new. The accompanying book pack includes a service book with four stamps, the last at 24,606 miles. Sparingly used in recent years, the Rover is said to be ‘a very good driver’ and ‘a lovely old car’. Coming to market for the first time in twenty-four years, this appealing marque specialist restored TR6 is accompanied by a history file and its original wheels.

The MG had one previous private keeper from new and is offered in running and driving condition, although would benefit from some light recommissioning due to the lack of use over the past approximately twenty-one years. Accompanied by a current V5C, original jack and a past logbook.

1988 BMW 635 CSi Highline

93

ESTIMATE: £14,000 - 18,000* REG NO: F600 NAN CHASSIS: WBAEC820908188007 A natural rival to the 928 and XJS, the four-seater 6-series proved more capacious than the Porsche and sportier than the Jaguar. Immediately recognisable thanks to its distinctive ‘shark nose’ frontal styling and thin pillared glasshouse it boasts real road presence. An impression backed up by the various versions of BMW’s mighty M30, SOHC straight-six engine fitted throughout the range. Second only to the BMW Motorsport tuned M6 version, the 635CSi’s 3430cc unit developed some 216bhp. This 635 CSi was manufactured in 1988 and was supplied new to the United Kingdom. Fitted with the 3430cc straightsix engine mated to the automatic transmission. Finished in the attractive colour combination of Delphine Grey paintwork with Grey full-leather interior upholstery with electric Recaro sports seats. ‘F600 NAN’ has covered a total of 135,419 miles from new (at time of consignment), although only c.10,000 of those miles have been across the last fourteen years. Entering current ownership in 2014, the BMW has had ten former keepers. Last serviced at approximately 134,000 miles, the BMW has further benefitted from approximately £1,260 expenditure at Moorland Classic Cars in June 2021 and is offered with current V5C, a collection of invoices and past MOTs and an MOT certificate until April 2022.

1969 Jaguar 240

94

ESTIMATE: £8,000 - 10,000* REG NO: LPV916G CHASSIS: 1J3802DN In the Autumn of 1967, the MkII range - less the discontinued 3.8 - morphed into the interim 240 and 340 models intended to bridge the gap prior to the launch of the XJ6 in September 1968. The 240 continued as a budget model until April 1969. Output was increased from 120 bhp at 5,750 rpm to 133 bhp at 5,500 rpm and torque was increased. There was a slight reshaping of the rear body and slimmer bumpers with over-riders were fitted. This RHD, manual overdrive example, is finished in Grey Metallic matched to a Blue interior. Having been in current ownership since 2015 and displaying 49,600 miles ‘LPV916G’ has been the subject of much expenditure which includes electronic ignition, new water pump, alternator conversion, new carburettors, new wire wheels, updated stereo and parrot phone kit all done during the vendor’s ownership. Subject to £400 worth of mechanical fettling last year and understood to have received previous work to the engine the Jaguar is offered with a large collection of invoices and old MOT certificates dating back to 1993 and the vendor currently grades the engine, transmission, interior and electrical equipment all as Very Good’ with the bodywork and paintwork as ‘Good’. Although exempt ‘LPV916G’ is offered with an MOT certificate into October 2021.

1964 Triumph Spitfire MK1 Special

96

ESTIMATE: £8,000 - 10,000* REG NO: 695 CRK CHASSIS: FC26443 This amazing wooden-bodied Special was built on the underpinnings of a 1964 Triumph Spitfire Mk1. The builder, Roger Cawthorne, wishing to showcase his woodworking talents created the 1930s style coachwork from teak, yew and mahogany with brass rivet fixings. The wood has a varnished finish which the vendor reapplied in 2017. Purchased by him in 1989 from a gentleman who never registered the car having bought it from Mr Cawthorne (hence the builder is shown as the previous owner on the V5), ‘Woody’ was used for fun and to attend Triumph club meetings before being laid up due to a growing family. As testament to the craftsmanship involved it won the Specials Section of the Triumph Sports Six Club International Concours in 1990 and has been featured in the TSSC magazine ‘Courier’. The car retains the original Spitfire chassis, 1147cc engine, gearbox and running gear and features a number of one-off custom parts including windscreen, brightwork, radiator, grille, lights, interior, dash, mudguards, exhaust, handbrake, chrome sidesteps and tonneau cover finished in green vinyl to match the seats. Offered with Swansea V5, this unique special is MoT exempt and offered with some photographs of the original build plus sundry correspondence. We are advised the registered mileage of just 5,500 is evidenced by the MoT certificate record.

1986 BMW 316

97

One previous owner and 64,700 miles ESTIMATE: £5,500 - 6,500* REG NO: C479 LFM CHASSIS: WBAAC52000059054 Styled by Claus Luthe who had also been responsible for penning the NSU Ro80, the E30-generation of BMW’s longrunning 3-Series has become a cult classic. The entry level model - the 316 - was introduced in 1982 and powered by a free-revving 1766cc SOHC engine that developed some 89bhp and 103lbft of torque. Weighing just under 1000kg, the 316 was surprisingly sprightly with a quoted 109mph top speed. Facelifted in 1987, saloon versions of the E30 remained in production until 1991. Finished in Lapis Blue with Blue cloth upholstery, ‘C479 LFM’ was supplied new to its previous keeper by Red Rose BMW of Chester. Warranted to have covered just 64,700 miles (a figure substantiated by nineteen main dealer and specialist service stamps), the 316 pleasingly retains its original book pack, dealer plates and two keys. Riding on recently refurbished alloy wheels shod with fresh tyres, the four-door saloon is described by the vendor as being in ‘excellent overall’ condition with regards to its engine, five-speed manual gearbox, electrical equipment, bodywork, paintwork and interior trim. A true timewarp that seemingly still wears the majority of its factory paint and boasts an unusually well preserved interior, ‘C479 LFM’ is worthy of close inspection.

2001 Land Rover Defender 90 TD5

98

ESTIMATE: £6,000 - 8,000* REG NO: FKZ 4670 CHASSIS: SALLDVA87YA196342 The Land Rover was launched in 1948 and, incredibly, production of the traditional Defender only finished in January 2016 after a continuous run of 67 years. The Defender was fitted with an all-new 2.5-litre, five-cylinder inline turbo/diesel engine and is mated to a five-speed manual transmission. Manufactured in 2001, the Defender was first UK registered in February that year. With just six former keepers and a recorded mileage of 88,613 miles at the time of consignment. PLEASE NOTE: There is no V5C present with this lot, the new owner will need to apply.

1982 Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit

Only c.19,600 Miles and One Family Ownership From New ESTIMATE: £16,000 - 20,000* REG NO: MHB 322X CHASSIS: SCAZS0005BCH03462 The Fritz Feller-penned Silver Spirit debuted at the 1980 Paris Salon. It was not entirely new, however, and employed the floorplan of the outgoing model as well as its proven OHV 6750cc V8 powerplant. The opulent incomer was lower and longer than the Silver Shadow and featured a considerably larger glass area. Courtesy of its finely-tuned Girling hydraulic self-leveling suspension, it was said to provide the best roadholding ever offered by the marque. There were a total of four iterations of the Silver Spirit, via which it remained in production until 1998. Finished in two-tone Ice Green over Forest Green paintwork with Green leather interior upholstery and was supplied new Howells of Cardiff on the 4th of January. ‘MHB 322X’ has covered just 19,642 miles (atoc) from new and has been in one family ownership since new, (three keepers are showing on the logbook). The accompanying service book contains eleven entries (many from main dealers), with further service records from Hanwells Rolls-Royce accompanying. Following a period unused between 2014 and 2020, the Rolls-Royce was subject to works totalling approximately £7,400 during 2020 at Hanwells Rolls-Royce and Bentley specialists. Provided with an MOT certificate until November 2021 and a current V5C.

2005 Porsche 911 Carrera

100

48,600 miles from new ESTIMATE: £30,000 - 35,000* REG NO: EU54 CXN CHASSIS: WP0ZZZ99Z5S700750 First registered on January 14th 2005, this exceptional ‘C16’ 997 Carrera has covered just 48,600 miles from new in the hands of three careful owners. To purist specification – i.e. rear-wheel drive, manual and with far fewer driver aids than a current 911 – it also benefits from the less bore-scoreprone 3.6 litre engine which was treated to a new clutch, battery and replacement IMS and RMS bearings in February 2021. Finished in the sought-after combination of Seal Grey metallic with Black leather upholstery, ‘EU54 CXN’ boasts a Porsche switchable exhaust, Navigation DVD Europe, heated 16-way adaptive sport seats and Xenon headlights not to mention the desirable Sport Chrono Plus pack comprising a dashboard-mounted stopwatch and sport button that simultaneously stiffens the suspension, tightens the throttle response and slackens the traction control. Serviced at 4,323, 8,687, 14,013, 16,621, 17,220, 17,761, 30, 134, 46,701 and 48,358 miles (seven main dealer, two specialist), the 911 is worthy of close inspection. More of a Ferrari man, the vendor was drawn to ‘EU54 CXN’ by its condition. Said to be a potential concours contender, it is offered for sale with book pack, tailored indoor and outdoor car covers, embroidered mats, standard exhaust, tool kit and passenger door umbrella etc.

Understood to have been used for competition earlier in its life, the TR3 has several uprated parts. Provided with a new tonneau cover in 2017 along with a renewed carburettor jet and engine servicing costing c.£1,150, the Triumph was subsequently serviced again in 2018. CONDITIONS MAINLY CONCERNING SELLERS AND CONSIGNORS 1.1  An Entry Form in respect of each Lot must be completed fully and accurately, with an honest description of the Lot, signed and dated by the Seller and accompanied by the Entry Fee, when the Lot is entered. The Auctioneer may at any time ratify an incomplete form. 1.2  Any documentation pertaining to the Lot must be sent with the Entry Form to the Auctioneer’s office, or in any event delivered with the Lot to the Premises. If a sale is

lost because of the failure of the Seller to disclose to the Auctioneer all information which may reasonably be expected to affect the provenance, title, value or any other aspect of the Lot, the Auctioneer will charge and the Seller must pay the stated rates (both to Seller and Buyer) plus VAT. 1.4  If the Seller wishes to retain the registration number of a Lot, it is the Seller’s responsibility to notify the Auctioneer in writing on the Entry Form. It is the Seller’s responsibility to take all necessary steps to ensure that the current registration number is retained and a new number allocated prior to the Lot being sold. If the Seller does not do so, the Auctioneer shall not be responsible for any loss or damage whatsoever and howsoever arising out of the Seller’s loss of the right to the registration number following the sale of the Lot. 2.1  The Auctioneer shall have absolute discretion whether or not to accept any Lot for sale and shall be entitled to select the auction place, date, catalogue placement and photographs for the Lot. 2.2  The Seller gives the Auctioneer full and absolute right to photograph and illustrate any Lot placed in its hands for sale, and to use such photographs and illustrations as are provided by the Seller at any time at its absolute discretion (whether or not in connection with the Sale), with indemnity against copyright infringement. 2.3  The Seller is wholly responsible for the factual accuracy of, and for any judgments or opinions expressed in, the catalogue description of each Lot entered by him, and for any error, misstatement or omission of information in that description. Whether the description has been prepared by the Auctioneer or the Seller, a copy of the typed text will be provided

to the Seller within a reasonable time prior to the Auction, and unless the Seller reacts with comments or changes prior to the Auction, the Auctioneer may treat that description as accepted by the Seller. 3.1  The Seller warrants to the Auctioneer and to the Buyer either that he is the true owner of the Lot or that he is duly authorised to sell the Lot by the true owner, and is able to transfer or procure transfer of good and marketable title to the Lot free from a third party claims or encumbrances. 3.2  In the event of an unsettled hire purchase, finance agreement or any other charge or lien affecting the Lot, the Auctioneer reserves the right to settle the amount due of such charges not exceeding the Sale Proceeds and if the Sale Proceeds are less than the charges outstanding the Seller will be responsible for the settlement of the balance forthwith. There will be a charge of £75 plus VAT for this service. 3.3  Each Lot, in the condition as described on the Entry Form, and with all keys, spare or extra items and documents shall be delivered to the Premises at the expense of the Seller. The Seller of a Lot not held by the Auctioneer at the Premises or under its control warrants and undertakes to the Auctioneer that the Lot will be made available and in a deliverable state at the time stated by the Auctioneer. 3.4  The Seller shall indemnify both the Auctioneer, its Employees and Agents, and the Buyer separately, against all payments, costs, expenses, demands, or any loss or damage whatsoever and wheresoever incurred or suffered by any of them in respect of any breach of these Conditions on the part of the Seller. 4.1  The Seller shall be entitled, prior to the sale to

place a Reserve on any Lot, this being the minimum Hammer Price at which the Auctioneer is authorised to sell that Lot and to make its usual charges. A Reserve once placed by the Seller shall not be changed without the consent of the Auctioneer. 4.2  The Auctioneer may, at its option, sell the Lot at a Hammer Price below the Reserve but in any such case the Sale Proceeds to which the Seller is entitled shall be the same as if the sale had been at Reserve. 4.3  Where no Reserve has been placed on the Lot the Auctioneer shall in no way be liable should the Lot be purchased for a price below the lowest estimated selling price. In any event, any written or oral estimate of likely selling price given by the Auctioneer is an expression of opinion only and may not be relied upon by the Seller nor give rise to any claim. 4.4  If a Reserve is placed by the Seller in a currency other than Pounds Sterling, such a Reserve shall be calculated and converted into Sterling at the spot rate of exchange quoted to the Auctioneer by the National Westminster Bank Plc at close of business on the last banking day prior to the date of the Sale. The certificate in writing of the Auctioneer as to such rate shall be conclusive. 4.5  Where a Reserve has been placed, only the Auctioneer may bid on that Lot on behalf of the Seller. Should the Seller buy in his own Lot, the Seller must pay to the Auctioneer its stated rates (both Seller and Buyer) before the Lot is removed. 5.1  The Seller may by notice to the Auctioneer withdraw the Lot from the Auction. If the Seller does so he shall be liable to pay the Auctioneer the stated rate of the Seller’s and Buyer’s commission

For the purposes of this clause the estimated value shall be the higher of:(a) the Seller’s estimate of value as previously notified to the Auctioneer or if more than one figure the highest figure or if none; (b) the value estimated in the catalogue or if more than one figure is given the highest figure, or if none, (c) the Auctioneer’s reasonable estimate of its value; (d) plus VAT on such fee in either case and expenses; 5.2  In the event that the Seller withdraws the Lot from the Auction the Seller shall arrange for the collection/removal of the Lot at his own expense within 2 working days after the date of withdrawal provided that the Seller may not collect the Lot unless or until any withdrawal fee payable under Conditions 5.1 shall have been paid in full and any storage charges have been met by the Seller. 6.  The Seller authorises the Auctioneer to deduct from the Hammer Price commission at the Stated Rate subject to the relevant minimum commission for each Lot, plus Expenses and VAT on both. The Seller acknowledges the Auctioneer’s right to charge and retain the Buyer’s Premium also in accordance with Condition 14. 7.  The Seller of a Lot which is a road going means of transport warrants and undertakes to the Auctioneer that, as at the date of the Sale, either: (a) the Lot will be VAT paid in the EU and registered in the UK, will be lawfully usable on the public road,

The Seller shall make arrangements either for the Auctioneer to re-offer that Lot for sale, or forthwith to collect the Lot and to pay the Expenses. If such arrangements are not made: (a) by 1pm on the day following the date of the Sale, the Seller shall be responsible for the costs of any removal, storage and other expenses related to that Lot; (b) within 3 months after formal notification by the Auctioneer to the Seller, the Auctioneer shall have the right (pursuant to the Torts (Interference with Goods) Act 1977 or any legislation that re-enacts or replaces

In any event the Auctioneer will be entitled to try and effect a sale as the Seller’s agent within 14 days after the date of the auction (that time limit does not apply to a sale by the Seller). If the Auctioneer does so sell the Lot, they will also be entitled to their normal commission. 10.1  Where a Lot is sold, the Auctioneer shall initiate payment, by bank transfer, of the Sale Proceeds to the Seller 14 days after the Auctioneers have received in cleared funds the Total Amount Due from the Buyer. Should no bank details be provided by the seller, the Auctioneer will effect payment by sending its cheque, drawn in favour of the Seller, 14 days after receipt of cleared funds, by first class mail at the Seller’s risk. 10.2  If before the Total Amount Due is paid by the Buyer (whether or not because the Auctioneer has given credit terms to the Buyer) the Auctioneer pays to the Seller an amount equal to the net Sale Proceeds, title in the Lot shall pass from the Seller to the Auctioneer. 10.3 In the case of overseas Sellers, the Sale Proceeds will be paid to the Seller either in Sterling

129

or in such other currency available to the Auctioneer as may have been agreed in writing between the Seller and the Auctioneer before the date of the Sale. The Auctioneer shall calculate the rate of exchange for the Sale Proceeds by reference to the spot rate of exchange quoted by the National Westminster Bank Plc at close of business on the date of the Sale, whichever is more favourable to the auctioneer. 10.4  If the Auctioneer receives notice of any dispute related to a sold Lot before the Sale Proceeds have been remitted to the Seller, the Auctioneer may withhold payment from the Seller until it thinks fit or until the Dispute is resolved, whichever is earlier. 10.5 The Auctioneer retains the right to withhold partial or total payment for any Lot if items committed to the Sale by the Seller and sold as part of the Lot, including any relevant documents, have not been delivered by the Seller. 10.6 The Seller shall maintain their insurance of the Lot until they are in receipt of the Sale Proceeds 11.1 If the Buyer fails to pay the Auctioneer the total Amount due within 21 days after the Sale, the Auctioneer will notify the Seller and take the Seller’s instructions as to the appropriate course of action. So far as in the Auctioneer’s opinion it is practicable, the Auctioneer will at the Seller’s expense assist the Seller to recover the Total Amount Due from the Buyer, but the Auctioneer shall be under no obligation to institute proceedings in its own name. 11.2  If circumstances outside the Auctioneer’s control do not permit the Auctioneer to take instructions from the Seller, the Seller hereby authorises the Auctioneer, at the Seller’s expense, to agree special terms for payment of the total

Amount Due; to remove, store and insure the Lot sold; to settle claims made against the Buyer or the Seller on such terms as the Auctioneer shall in its absolute discretion think fit; to take such steps as are necessary to collect the monies due by the Buyer to the Seller; and if necessary to rescind the sale and refund money to the Buyer. CONDITIONS MAINLY CONCERNING THE BUYER 12.1  Any motor vehicle is sold as a collector’s item and not as a means of transport. Sometimes ‘works’ vehicles were fitted with different registration plates, so that a vehicle could meet a particular event’s start date

deadline. These historical factors may lead to there being in existence multiple and competing claimants to the same vehicle identity. 12.2  The Buyer shall be the person making the highest bid at or over Reserve (if any) that is accepted by the Auctioneer, and the Contract shall be concluded at the fall of the hammer. The Auctioneer shall have the absolute discretion to settle any dispute related to bidding at the Sale. All sales are deemed not to be sales in the course of a business, unless notified to the contrary. 12.3  Every bidder shall be deemed to act as a principal unless the Auctioneer has, prior to the auction date, acknowledged (either by acceptance of the Bidder’s Registration Form which discloses the true principal, or otherwise in writing) that the bidder is acting as agent on behalf of a disclosed principal. 12.4  The Auctioneer may in its absolute discretion refuse to accept any bid, advance the bidding as it may decide, withdraw or divide any Lot, combine any two or more Lots, and in the case of dispute may put up any Lot for auction again. 12.5  A prospective bidder should register his intention to bid for a Lot by completing fully and signing a Bidder’s Registration Form prior to executing his bid. If this has not been completed before the fall of the hammer, the Buyer shall forthwith complete the Bidder’s Registration Form. The Bidder shall also provide photographic identification. Failure to do so shall not invalidate the sale, unless the Auctioneer, in its absolute discretion, so decides. 12.6  Any bid which fails to reach the Reserve may be submitted by the Auctioneer to the Seller and if

the Seller accepts that bid, the Lot will be deemed to have been sold to the Buyer at the sum bid at the fall of the hammer and the normal Terms and Conditions will apply to that sale.

refundable by HM Customs & Excise on proof of export).

13.1  Where a Lot is illustrated by a photograph, in the case of a vehicle with a registration number visible, that number will not be transferred with the vehicle to the Buyer unless the registration particulars appear in the written part of the description and the transfer has been authorised by the Seller. If the vehicle is sold to the Buyer before the formalities of the allocation of a different registration number to that vehicle are completed with the DVLA, the Buyer accepts that he will take all steps necessary to co-operate with either the Seller or the Auctioneer to have the number re-transferred to the Seller or as may be, and will take no steps to register the vehicle with the number in his name.

16.2  Unless he has already done so, complete a Bidder’s Registration Form as in Condition 12.5 above;

13.2  Whilst the interests of prospective Buyers are best served by personal attendance at the Sale, the Auctioneers will if so instructed execute bids on their behalf. Neither the Auctioneer nor its Employees or Agents will be responsible for any error or default in doing so or in failing altogether to do so. Where the Auctioneer executes bids on behalf of an absent bidder, each Lot will be bought as cheaply as is allowed by other bids and any relevant Reserve. 14.  The Buyer shall pay to the Auctioneer in respect of each Lot the Buyer’s Commission calculated on the Hammer Price at the stated rates as set out above. 15.  Where a Lot is described in the Catalogue or announced at the time of Sale as being subject to VAT on import, VAT will be payable in addition to the Hammer Price (which VAT may or may not be

16.1  Upon the sale of a Lot, the Buyer shall:

16.3  Pay to the Auctioneer the total amount due, at latest by midday on the day after the Sale, notwithstanding that where the Buyer wishes to export the Lot, an export licence may be required which must be obtained by the Buyer at his own cost; 16.4  Accept that any payments received by the Auctioneer from a Buyer may be applied by the Auctioneer towards any sums owing from that Buyer to the Auctioneer on any account whatsoever, without regard to any directions of the Buyer or his agent, whether express or implied. 17.1  Until the total amount due has been received by the Auctioneer: (a) title in a Lot shall not pass to the Buyer but the risk shall; (b) no Lot may be taken away by or on behalf of the Buyer. 17.2  The Buyer shall be responsible for any removal, storage and insurance charges and any other Expenses on any Lot not paid for and taken away by 1pm on the day following the day of the sale. 18.1  If a Buyer fails either to pay for or to take away any Lot, the Auctioneer may without further notice

to the Buyer, at its discretion and without prejudice to any other rights or remedies it may have, exercise one or more of the following rights or remedies, as may be relevant, in relation to any and all remedies for non-payment that the Auctioneer may choose to exercise. The Buyer will pay to the Auctioneer all legal and other costs borne by it on a full indemnity basis. 18.2 To charge interest at a rate not exceeding 3% per month over Natwest Bank’s base rate on so much of the total amount due as remains unpaid after the date and time referred to in condition 16.3 for the first two months. After that period of time to charge interest at a rate not exceeding 1.75% per month over Natwest Bank’s base rate on so much of the total amount due as remains unpaid after the date and time referred to in condition 16.3. 18.3  To issue proceedings against the Buyer for payment of the total amount due and/or for damages for breach of contract. If the Seller decides to sell the Lot elsewhere, the Auctioneer may proceed against the Buyer for the Commission which it would have earned both from the Seller and the Buyer together with VAT on both had the Buyer paid for the Lot in accordance with these Conditions. 18.4  To rescind the sale of that or any other Lots sold to the same Buyer at this or any other Sale, in respect of which title has not passed. 18.5  To resell the Lot or cause it to be resold by public or private sale, such that any deficiency in the total amount due resulting from such resale (after giving credit for any payment) together with the full costs incurred in connection with the Lots shall be paid to the Auctioneer by the Buyer; any surplus in excess of the Sale Proceeds of that resale shall

belong to the Seller.

GENERAL CONDITIONS

18.6  To store the Lot at the sole expense of the Buyer and to release the Lot only after payment in full of the total amount due, together with the accrued cost of the removal, storage and insurance and all other expenses incurred in connection with the Lot.

20. The Auctioneer in all respects acts and will be treated as agent for the Seller (except where the Auctioneer is expressly stated to be selling as principal), and is not responsible for any default by the Seller or the Buyer to the other party.

18.7  To retain that or any other Lot sold to the Buyer at the same or any other auction and to release the same only after payment of the total amount due.

21. The Auctioneer will not accept any liability for damage sustained to a Lot that is attributable to members of the public or non-Auctioneer operatives during the Sale or any removable items left within lots during the same period. Any claims for damage and / or lost items must be submitted to the Auctioneer in writing no later than 3 working days after the date of the Sale and include a valid quote for repair or replacement and digital photographs where applicable.

18.8  To apply by way of set-off any Sale Proceeds of any Lot then due or at any time thereafter becoming due to the Buyer towards settlement of the total amount due and expenses and the Auctioneer shall be entitled to a lien on any property of the Buyer which is in the Auctioneer’s possession for any purpose. 18.9  To reject or ignore any bids made by or on behalf of the defaulting Buyer at any future sales or insist upon a cash deposit before accepting any bids in future. 19.1  All Lots are offered as seen with all faults and defects without any guarantee or warranty attaching thereto as to condition, roadworthiness or otherwise and with all faults and defects whether apparent upon examination or not. 19.2  In any event, neither the Seller nor the Auctioneer shall be liable for any indirect or consequential loss whatsoever, and the maximum liability of the Auctioneer together with its Employees and Agents, in the event of any claim against them arising from the sale of any Lot shall be limited to the Hammer Price plus Buyer’s Premium in respect of that Lot.

132

22. The Auctioneer shall be under no liability for any injury, damage or loss sustained by any person while on the Auctioneers premises (including any premises where a sale may be conducted or where a Lot, or a part of a Lot, may be on view from time to time) except for death or personal injury caused by the negligence of the Auctioneers or its employees and agents in the course of their duties to the Auctioneers. 23. The Auctioneer shall have the right, at its sole discretion, without assigning any reason, to refuse any person admission to its Premises or attendance at any of its Sales, or to view any Lot. 24. The Auctioneer shall keep and use any data relating to the Buyer and the Seller in accordance with the provisions of all relevant data protection legislation. The Buyer and the Seller consent to such data being kept and used for appropriate purposes,

including informing the Buyer and the Seller of any offers or other matters of interest from time to time. 25. The copyright in all written matter and illustrations relating to Lots shall remain at all times the absolute property of the Auctioneer, and any person wishing to use such materials, or any part of them, shall require the prior written consent of the Auctioneer. 26. If any Condition or part of a condition in these Terms shall be held to be invalid or unenforceable, the validity or enforceability of the remaining Conditions will not thereby be affected. 27. These Conditions shall be governed by and construed in accordance with English Law. All transactions to which these Conditions apply and all matters connected therewith shall also be governed by English Law. Each of the Auctioneer, the Seller, the Buyer and any bidder hereby submits to nonexclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
