Shape Page – TRIANGLE AND DIAMOND Developmentally, the triangle and diamond come after the circle and square. Motor experiences with slides, ramps, cones, and funnels make diagonal lines and these shapes easier for children.
Get Started
The first letter of the alphabet is one of the most difficult. Often, children mistakenly start at the bottom. That’s why the pre-stroke page is so important. Demonstrate starting at the top where the alligators are. Put the crayon on the arrow, say, “Big line slides down. Stop.” Make noises like the alligator is eating the crayon stroke “chomp, chomp, chomp” as you’re making the strokes. Color the alligators. Use different crayons to make each stroke. This also gives practice with picking up and holding a crayon correctly.
