CEO LETTER

Navigating a New Way to Student Success This fall is sure to be full of fresh and familiar experiences. As we emerge from the turbulence of the global pandemic, teachers and students are face-to-face again, heading back down the halls they’ve missed so much. But this year the EXCITEMENT AND ANTICIPATION of back to school comes with new, challenging waters all educators will have to navigate. The interrupted education experience of the past year has placed new hurdles for learning in front of students—particularly for the youngest. At Learning Without Tears, we believe that a STRONG FOUNDATION can withstand any disruption. Throughout the past year, educators and families have turned to us to help their students hone foundational skills like emergent writing, handwriting, and keyboarding. Teachers learned with us in virtual professional learning workshops, gaining the mastery they needed to stay ahead of the challenges on the horizon. And this fall, we are unveiling our new early literacy program, A–Z for Mat Man® and Me, helping students gain alphabet knowledge and beginning reading skills in a delightful new way. All our programs effectively support multiple learning environments. So, whether you are back to full-time in-person learning, hybrid, or virtual, our solutions will meet the needs of your students and teachers. It’s a bold new journey, but we’re right ALONGSIDE YOU helping you navigate your students to success.

Terry Nealon CEO, Learning Without Tears

The Learning Without Tears Story Our journey started at the kitchen table of a mom whose son was struggling with handwriting. Jan Olsen, an occupational therapist, developed a revolutionary new approach to handwriting that has helped millions of students. Since then, we’ve grown from one passionate entrepreneur to a team of hundreds. After more than 40 years, we remain a family-owned education company dedicated to our mission—

to help students build foundational skills with confidence, leading to lifelong success. As the company spread its wings,we saw opportunities to continue to develop foundational skills.

MAT MAN® AND THE GREAT ALPHABET PARADE This fun-filled read-aloud book is a starting point for the letter learning journey students will continue with the Student Letter Books. By using the same exemplar words for both the Student Letter Books and the read-aloud book, children will begin to associate sounds with letters, while they build oral language and word knowledge.

Introduce the Alphabet

Teach Alphabetical Order

The delightful alphabet parade helps children conceptualize the alphabet as a collection of letters that represent sounds and make words.

You can use the cover and the word list on the inside front cover to help explain the order of the alphabet.

A! Wow! st look at that apple. A is also for astronat and alliator.

Next p—letter . There’s a bi bae l, a bear with a ban o, a beatifl baby bll, and a brown bffa lo balancin on a ball.

Preview Exemplar Words Connect the Components Use this book to launch into either the Student Letter Books or the practice books.

The exemplar words from each letter book are integrated throughout the parade, offering a glimpse of the other stories.
