educators identify, group, and teach students struggling to efficiently lift words from the page. Phonics Suite lessons teach students the skills they should have mastered in K–2. Lessons are flexible, and skills are taught in an appropriately paced, mature manner. The charts to the right illustrate just one of the many remarkable successes from all around the country. Screening measures (AIMSweb®, DIBELS®) will identify students who are struggling to read grade-level text fluently.

Decoding is not a significant problem for these students and is not impairing their reading comprehension. Students with a slow reading rate will benefit from fluency instruction.
These students are strong with the basics, but struggle with more complex words. They need targeted phonics instruction.
Phonics Blitz™ (pp. 4–5) is the appropriate Tier 2 intervention solution for students in grades 4–12. Phonics Boost™ should be used for students in grades 2–3.
These students need a Tier 3 phonics based intervention. Phonics Boost (pp. 6–7) is an appropriate solution for these students. When students have severe decoding weaknesses, Phonics Boost supplemented with Phonics Boost Plus™ (p. 9) may be the right solution for them.
Something other than decoding is interfering with students’ ability to decode.

Phonics Suite™
Diagnostic Decoding Surveys Teachers across the country use the Diagnostic Decoding Surveys to accurately and efficiently identify gaps in phonics knowledge. The surveys assess a student's ability to read familiar and unfamiliar words with varied levels of phonics complexity. The Diagnostic Decoding Surveys have seven different forms for progress monitoring. Administering both surveys takes just five minutes.
Decoding Surveys User’s Guide Provides all the information needed to administer, score, and interpret both surveys, including reproducible blackline masters of scoring sheets for the seven forms (A–G) of both surveys. The User’s Guide explains the research supporting the surveys and how they fit into an RtI model.
Quick Facts Informal diagnostic tool Pinpoints decoding weaknesses Works for students in grades 1–12
The Grouping Matrix ™ This free, web-based program enables you to group students (from the middle of grade 1 through grade 12) according to the type and depth of their decoding difficulties. The Grouping Matrix also provides instructional recommendations for each group of students and allows you to track individual and group progress. (To see grouping categories, refer to the chart on the inside front cover.)

Phonics Suite™
Phonics Blitz™ Phonics Blitz is a set of 50 explicit, multisensory lessons designed for students in grades 4–12 who have gaps in their phonics knowledge and are struggling to read fluently. Phonics Blitz helps students who misread unfamiliar words, struggle with reading multi-syllable words, skip or add words, read more slowly, and read less accurately than expected. Phonics Blitz students primarily need to break guessing habits, learn how to read multi-syllable words, and understand vowel spellings. Phonics Blitz lessons are often completed in just 10–12 weeks. The materials are recommended for students with mild to moderate decoding weaknesses.

More than 20 years of scientific, evidence-based reading research makes clear that all good readers must master certain basic skills. Those skills include the ability to decode words accurately – a skill that most struggling readers have difficulty with. This complimentary set of Diagnostic Decoding Surveys includes two informal diagnostic tools designed to quickly pinpoint decoding weaknesses in students of almost any age. The Diagnostic Decoding Surveys enable one-on-one assessment of phonics skills for struggling readers from the middle of first grade through adulthood. The surveys are efficient and easy to administer. For students with decoding weaknesses, the surveys can be used to identify which skills have already been mastered and which are weak. This complimentary packet contains everything you’ll need for initial assessment of an unlimited number of students. The packet also provides an explanation of how the survey results can be used to group students, and it offers guidance on how to plan effective, efficient instruction. www.reallygreatreading.com P.O.
