Visualising Energy Sources
Making Energy Visible Clean tech sources are made visible and displayed in prominent public areas and sightlines to prompt discussions. As seating areas
Geothermal and Micro CHP boilers are typically hidden in Utility rooms. Boilers form seating and overhead shelving within outdoor/indoor contexts.
AGAINST Energy stored in uninhabited utility rooms, hiding themselves from our comprehension and interactions.
As tables containing appliances
As lampposts and shaded canopies
Energy dissipated in appliances that we use everyday shoule be displayed and understood by people.
Solar panels are displayed along suburban lampposts. Contrary to the conventional ‘panel’ like configuration of solar panels, these panels are visually striking, forming shaded canopies for shelter.
2. Making Energy Tangible Clean tech sources are made visible and displayed in prominent public areas and sightlines to prompt discussions.
AGAINST Energy produced by a button, a click or a valve. People need to consicously engage with energy through its visualisation.
Cleantech devices modules that can be manipulated.
Electrical connections that can be manipulated

Consumer Devices that are manipulated Rather than a static configuration of appilances, they are arranged in order of power inputs, the user would be required to plug them in order which they are used.
3. Translation of Tangibility into meaningful, collective actions Clean tech sources are made visible and displayed in prominent public areas and sightlines to prompt discussions.
AGAINST Independent consumption of energy. The ignorance of energy within everyday contexts.
Using Clean tech to create new work environments: Solar devices could be manipulated to form outdoor working areas. The collection of working areas could form childcare centres for families and mothers with children.
Using Clean Tech to activate communal streets:
Using Clean Tech to activate communal streets:
Limiting energy to increase communal dependency :Electrical ‘off’ areas during working hours.A sociable, dependent community that disperses comforts.

Communities venture across various homes to acquire comforts like a bath, or a teabreak.

4. Offering alternative lifestyles in cities Clean tech sources are made visible and displayed in prominent public areas and sightlines to prompt discussions.
AGAINST A predominantly consumerist urban culture. Empowering citizens with producutivity, devices and pwoer.
City organised by energy consumption zones
Alternative workplaces and factories:
Alternative suburbs:
User can manipulate energy resources as a new form of democratic energy supply. Public space showcases clean tech and becomes a gathering point to discuss it.

MAKING ENERGY PUBLIC
Shared Housing in the suburbs - Scaling down and making visible energy production - Using Energy production to promote outdoor activity - Creating pedestrianised zones - Public square as empowerment for users’ individual agency.
Family Rooms Each young family shares a large bedroom that could expand when necessary.
Overall Core structure distributing electrical energy and allows for room to grow structurally
Energy Garden Table distributing electrical energy and allowing visualisation of different sources
SOLARCITY HQ
MAKING ENERGY PUBLIC Solar city is the largest supplier of renewable energy in the US. The proposal seeks a new workspace for the factory that brings a public realm into the production of energy. An element of domesticity is brought into the factory with children day cares and ‘mini parliments’.

Urban Energy Zoning
With the public space created by solarcity, a new form a urban zoning is introduced, whereby zones are distributed by consumption habits for clean tech.

The Open Factory
Public Square for clean energy - Opening up of expert knowledge to the public - Scaling down and making visible energy production - Using Energy production to promote outdoor activity - Creating pedestrianised zones - Public square as empowerment for users’ individual agency.
Mini Parliament of Energy The mini parliament opens up discussion and debate. Each facade panel contains appilances directly linked up to the energy source
The open factory The factory opens up to reveal its operations to the public, Energy monitors are suspended directly beneath the corresponding solar panel.
