What Learnt Last Year
‘Graphics can make
us see things differently’
I didn’t know that HMV stood for ‘His Master’s Voice’ until I Researched it. However even though I didn’t know that the dog meant something, I still knew that this was a music shop.
This logo is known national icon for all ages. The ‘M’ resembles McDonalds but the actual colour and shape looks like a French fry.
‘Don’t judge a shop by it’s sign’ Not all of the signs are sucessfull.
I saw this shop in town and I couldn’t work out what it was. I couldn’t read it from the choice of typeface.
I saw this sign and instantly thought of the beach. I wasn’t surprised when I found out they sold summer type of clothes. This logo does justice to the shop.
Every time I see this logo I feel warm inside like their hot chocolate. The coca bean gives it away that this shop sells coffee
This shop would probably bring in drunk people of the street mistaking it for a dance club.
I know by looking at this typeface that this shop sells expensive and traditional kind of clothing.
If I didn’t know what was sold in this shop, my first thought would be cafe or TV shop.
I didn’t realise that the ‘h’ made a house shape until I started the course. The simple detail in a letter shows the cause the charity supports.
At the first look of this logo I thought that it was a pub. Also the name does sound like it is a bar.
(Taken from FatMedia’s website) Webdesigners may build and programe websites. However Graphic Designers ‘design’ the website for the respected group or client. A visual mind is needed to think of something this creative.

Something as simple as a playlist and a piece of album artwork needs to be desgined for it to make sense and forfill its purpose.
‘It is a big part of our lives’ Graphics is everwhere we look even on our phones! I had no idea that apps were designed by Graphic Designers. It just shows how much we take stuff granted.

Mixing black and white/ grey with colour is my favourtie effect in working with images. It shows the intricate detail and also the vibrance it needs.
Advertising Eye-make up is one of my favourtie graphical aspects. It makes me think of stage makeup. It always looks so artistic the way designers present it.

I researched Chip Kidd on youtube and found this book. He explained that the book was about fraud, so he wanted to make it look fake. For his last attempt he took a red marker and wrote fraud on it.
I was introudced to book and jacket designer Chip Kidd, last year. I bought his book to learn more about his work. My favourtie of his books are ‘Dry’ and ‘Fraud”.
I was suprised when I found out that Graphic Designers also produce album covers, I thought it would be more illustrative. This is when I figured out that Graphic Design Is kind of like art.
I don’t need to see the whole poster to know that the product is perfume. I know now that there is more to selling this product than just including it in the poster.
‘Anything has a targeted consumer’
I used to think that flyers were produced by the club. Although I found out that the night clubs in this area have students produce them. It makes sense seen as the students know what people their age would be interesed in.
Thirsty? Slapping a close up of ‘coke’ on the side of the vending machine is not just to show what it sells, it also is pursuading people to buy the coke.
‘It can be informative’
Infographics is a simple and creative way to inform and instruct people. it is used everywhere and can range from public ie. charts to information about pregency. They are also quick to create especailly with using the pen tool.
Seasons are very impotant in the maketing world. The rush of the seasonal period means work for Graphic Designers/ Illustrators. Each season will have a different theme and appoarch and also vaierty.
‘Even the craftiest cards are designed. Colours, fonts and Images are guessed’.
Ocasions such as birthdays are just as important as seasons as they are always needed. In so many ranges and types of design.
Heatherwick anyone? I first came across Thomas Heatherwick’s work in college. He is not a graphic desginer but his ideas are worth researching.
Last year I came across him again when looking at christmas cards. I find it very unquie to use stamps yet clever to have them in the shape of a christmas tree.
