THE INTIMATE CITY Dining In The Urban - Urban Regeneration

TYPE: Individual Work / Academic Work PERIOD: 2020.5 - 2020.9 AREA: 27 Ha LOCATION: SKOPJE, F.Y.R.O.M SUPERVISOR: Anna Wang (21395114@qq.com) In 1961, Jane Jacobs wondered whether people’s growing indifference to urban life, as well as the increasing abundance and rising material standards of urban life would inevitably increase distance between people. The city centre is losing its diversity and significance as a place to live, with its roads turning to hell, its streets communicating and its sense of security disappearing. Privacy and fun are left in the room, while public spaces such as streets become boring and unattractive. Therefore, I introduced the concept of “intimate city” to the site, providing an opportunity to explore family habits in the public domain rather than at home, thereby regulating tensions in the city. By rearranging and planning the public space, a comfortable semipublic and semi-private space is formed to increase people’s sense of belonging. The project aims to break the boundary between public and private spaces in the city, ultimately creating a social commitment that can be extensively implemented to mediate tensions in many cities.

INTIMATE CITY: Dinning In The City

Dining, a relatively private activity, has great potential to make closer relations between humankind. Intimate actions in public space can shorten interpersonal distance as well as distance between humans and environment, showing a sense of intimacy. University of Tokyo did research on this, involving about 70, 000 people in its questionnaire and interview.

THE SHARED HERITAGE PARK Industrial Area Conservation & Regeneration

TYPE: Individual Work / Academic Work PERIOD: 2019.7 - 2019.11 AREA: 27 Ha LOCATION: XI’AN,CHINA SUPERVISOR: Zeng Mingyin (19427817@qq.com) 50 years ago, Xi’an’s textile industry was at the centre of the country, and workers from all over the country flocked to the textile factories in Xi’an, which bore witness to the industrial history and the city’s imprint. With the development and expansion of the city, these factories have been moved from the suburb to the urban development centre, and the surrounding areas have also been transformed from wastelands to residential areas. Coupled with the decline of the textile industry, the textile mills had to relocate to the outskirts of the city. The demand for the reuse of these industrial heritages is urgent and how to carry out the transformation directly reflects the sustainable development policy of this city. In this design, I transformed the site into a park, while retaining the industrial landscape and returning its use right to the residents, making up for the lack of green landscape in the blind expansion of the city.

9

TIME LINE

URBAN EXPANSION

History Of Factory 1955

The boundaries of the city are continually stretching. The site, located in outskirts in the 1960s, is situated in urban centers now. Along with continuous development of urban economies in the future, its population is rising, among which the proportion of senior citizens is mounting accordingly. Therefore, this site will confront severe problem of aging.

LANDSCAPE RENOVATION

SPECIAL LANDSCAPE

REBIRTH OF RAILWAY TRACKS

Lounge bridges and rails form unique landscapes. This running track stretches to integrate with that of the city.

Parts of these constructions will be dismantled and shifted to the north of the site, consistent with mirror-like water and other natural landscapes to form distinctive industrial landscapes.

Remain the original buildings of warehouses. Divide its internal area into small blocks endowed with various new functions, while its external railway landscape penetrates into its internal part, linking with that of the site naturally to achieve overall development.

THE CHILD-RESPONSIVE CITY CENTRE Shaping Urbanization For Children

TYPE: Individual Work / Academic Work PERIOD: 2019.12 - 2020.4 AREA: 33 Ha LOCATION: MIAN YANG,CHINA SUPERVISOR: Wen Cai (61397817@qq.com) The discussion about the relationship between children and the city has never stopped, which, however, has not changed the city’s development from the perspective of adults, and children still inevitably become the “silent majority” in the city. The city has become a beast of flood, and the busy life in city has gradually become a synonym of crisis. Rapid urban development forces children to stay away from streets, squares and other public spaces, and confines them to their homes. For many children living in cities, leisure time means staying at home and playing with mobile phones. This is the reality of life for most children today — but it really doesn’t have to be. This project takes a medium-sized city in China as the starting point to further demonstrate the potential and superiority of “child-friendly city” by reorganizing traffic and landscape to make the city safe and fun.

THE MONDRIAN'S VIRTUAL DOMICILE FOR HUMANITY Autonomous Configurations Conceptual Design

TYPE: Individual Work / Academic Work PERIOD: 2020.10 - 2020.11 SUPERVISOR: Lin Zhenhao (2827656752@qq.com) The aim of the project is to explore architecture as an ideological subject matter existing within a field of rhizomatic expansion consisting of other similarly abstract and speculative artistic disciplines. This project is inspired by the painter Mondrian’s Victory Boogie Woogie and combines the historical background. After analysing and sorting out how did he analyse the world, I further explored the relationship between individual values and universal values, forming the thinking space of the whole society finally.

The spiral characterizes not only the form but also the tempo of development. With each new turn, or twist, of the spiral, an even more significant path is left behind. Thus, it is possible to say that the process of development is linked with an acceleration of tempo and with continuous change in the internal time scale of a developing system. This regularity is found in the development of scientific knowledge, as well as in the development of society and of nature.

Seeking Self

When Mondrian created this painting, the craze of searching for the self would bring the awakening of various characters. But when such phenomena go to extremes, a series of tragedies will occur. And these tragedies will continue to grow and become a common scar for all mankind.

SPATIAL ANALYSIS A Affirmative

B Negation

In this space, people begin to have a preliminary understanding of the world. People’s understanding of Personal value and universal value is still at a moderate stage. The contradiction between them has not yet emerged, but it has begun to emerge.

C Negation

After critical thinking, people will discuss and communicate in this space. In this space, everything will be redefined. It is a painful process...

of

Negation

After the previous extreme discussion, all the disputes gradually subsided. People have finally realized that the two are not completely opposite. Personal values and universal values are integrated and developed and form a new framework for observing the world.

I hope to analyse and solve problems in daily life from the perspective of urban design major. After analysing the geography of 333 traditional villages in Si Chuan, I collated the data. Besides, I collected famous landscapes of Si Chuan on the Internet, and organized several tourist routes with the help of data such as public transportation. Visitors using these itineraries can not only enjoy special views, but also gain an insight into the significance of traditional Chinese rural conservation
