research Task1- Digital Printing
3D Printing:
3D printing is an additive process that an object is created by laying down successive layers of material until the entire object is created. The positive point of a 3D printer is that it makes the object more creative, better quality and less wasted. However the negative thing about the 3D printer is that it is expensive. In the future the 3D Printer will help the environment because it will have fewer wasted materials and possibility of longer life spans. This fashion designer, Iris van Herpen made this garment with a 3D Printer.
Digital Printing:
Digital printing refers to methods of printing from a digital-based image directly to a variety of media. It usually refers to professional printing where small-run jobs from desktop publishing and other digital sources are printed using large-format and/or high-volume laser or inkjet printers. The negative point about digital printing is that it does not print out light colour inks very well. But the positive of a Digital Printer is it improves your artwork being processed by a computer, and then printed directly onto the surface of your product. This picture is a garment made by a Digital printer and the designers are called Basso and Brooke.

Customised Printing:
Customised printing is where you make your own style on a piece of clothing or a shoe. The shoe brands Nike and Adidas have their own website where you can make your own trainer for your own style. The positive parts of customised printing is they have verity of designs, its eco-friendly and the results become dramatic and distinctive. However the negative results show that customised printing can be quiet expensive and you can only choose from a limit of patterns and trainers. For example this girl has made her own style of shoe and has put her name at the back of the shoe where the brand name should have been and put a flower pattern instead of a colour. To customise your own shoe it would cost ÂŁ145 however it depends on what type of shoe you pick to personalise and the prices will go higher or lower. You can also customise clothes other than just shoes.
Laser Cutting:
Laser cutting is a technology that uses a laser to cut materials, and is typically used for industrial manufacturing applications. The positive point about laser cutting is it seals all the edges so the fabric doesn’t fray and also it cuts out detail neat. The negative points about a laser cutter is that sometimes some laser cutters don’t cut or engrave metal.
This is a garment made by Christian Louboutin who is a fashion designer and he has used a laser cutter to make this dress.
3D Body Scanning:
3D body scanning is the uses of body models generated by 3D body scanning are unlimited. These include: custom fitting apparel, sizing standards development, 3D product development, animation and graphics, health and fitness management and computer gaming immersion. The positive is it shows the clothing of what you are going to buy or want without trying them on. However the negative points about 3D body cutting is you can’t feel the fabric. For example: you wouldn’t feel a jumper and see if it would be itchy on your skin.
This is a picture of a 3D scanner scanning a person’s body. This is a 3D scanning machine.
CAD:
Computer-aided design (CAD) is the use of computer systems to assist in the creation, modification, analysis, or optimization of a design. CAD software is used to increase the productivity of the designer, improve the quality of design, improve communications through documentation, and to create a database for manufacturing. CAD output is often in the form of electronic files for print, machining, or other manufacturing operations. The positive points about CAD is that you can use Photoshop and but make up on and airbrush but the negative points is it’s not really it is fake. This is a picture of an example of the use of Photoshop.
Summary:
The impact that digital printing will have in the future is that people will become lazy because there will be machines to do their work for them and also children who will be born into the world that will have lost normal working skills. This impact will decrease our skills because it will make us lazier because the machines will be doing the work for us.it will have an effect on underprivileged countries because people wouldn’t have jobs because the machines and the company’s won’t need people to do the job because the machines can do them quicker.

Evaluation of Digital Printing The strengths of digital printing is it provides the ability to print high quality full colour. Its also faster and accurate, it makes no mistakes in the limited work it does. Its cheaper to print and the cost effective for small print runs because there is less initial involved. You don’t have to wait until it is dry. Its easily to scan in a design and digital printing is best used for printing high detail. However the weakness of digital printing is it can only be used on white or light coloured garments and it only does limited print after a certain amount it doesn’t support and some cracking in the print when a job is creased or foldered. The opportunities with digital printing is that you save money on expensive print shops. You can also print on other media, such as business cards, stickers and more. The cost is effective. Its easy to do reruns, which means you can do it again and its portable it can be transferred by email and downloads to anywhere n the world. However the threats with digital printing is that designs could and can be used again and nozzle's can get blocked when printing.
Laser Cut experimentation and design development. I Hand tested my laser cut design before sending it through to the laser cutter to make sure the pattern would work how I wanted. Here is the hand cut experiment I completed.
Evaluation of laser cutting The strengths of laser cutting is that it has visually effective with the details and accurate. It’s a fairly process and technically effective quality can not. Also CAD designs quicker and combines techniques digital print and laser cut. The weakness of laser cutting is the distorted could appear squashed. Its always not bespoken which means 1 off due to mass production. Its restricted by the process which must be a ‘stencil’ which could effect pattern with a continuous line. The opportunity about laser cutting it promise exclusivity use digital print and other fabrics to entice the laser cut. It quickly pays for its self and hold down shift- NOT the process. The treat of laser cutting is some fabrics cant be used as they would set on fire or melt. Light colour fabrics leave a brown single mark which would be not suitable. The larger it is the more the details take longer-back log. Its also expensive to start the process. The larger the detail takes the longer back log but relying on the machine working the production could stop or staff could be sick and there's no other specialist training. My laser cutting design, I used adobe illustrator to do my laser cutting and did not turn out right because the image was not right and it corrupted. I can improve this by getting a different and more suitable image for next time.
