OVERVIEW OF OUR WINE CELLARS
R
eserve Wine Cellars use only the highest quality available materials and specialist applied finishes (when specified as an option). Our spiral wine cellars are not only beautifully detailed but also skillfully constructed, having been carefully designed to offer a more contemporary feel. Clean lines, natural colours and careful use of highquality materials combine to create a truly harmonious and desirable environment for the storage of fine wines. The importance of storing fine wines at the correct temperature cannot be overstated and this is why our wine cellars are located below ground to take advantage of the naturally cooler environment which we maintain by way of our tried and tested ‘passive ventilation’ system.
Air tightness between the cellar and rooms above is also an important consideration and this is where our hermetically sealed, electrically powered access hatches can be relied upon to ensure minimal temperature migration. From the earliest stages of the design process, we have taken into account possible client-driven design variations by incorporating a degree of flexibility into our wine cellar designs. Options covering tread finishes, lighting, access hatches or indeed any other areas of our wine cellar design are all possible. We also have long-standing relationships with a number of prominent specialist decorative finishing companies who are able to provide that unique finish should this be desired?
WINE CELLAR DESIGN
F
rom production of the first concept designs it was clear that an underground wine storage installation required to be constructed according to a number of specific design ‘principles’, primarily involving ease of access and economical use of space, whilst also and most importantly providing a suitable environment for the storing of fine-wines. Given that most wine cellars of this type are located underground due to either environmental considerations or space constraints, it was clear that everything from bottle sizing to economical storage to stair layout to access and environment, all required to be carefully considered in a fully coordinated manner. The use of our own in-house 3D CAD design and visualisation software proved to be invaluable tools in ensuring that all of the important components of the wine cellar could be accurately detailed and subsequently manufactured, enabling the final on-site assembly process to be carried out in one seamless operation. From the vertical co-ordination of the steps with the wine storage units, to the precise detailing of the high-quality stainless steel hatch frame and of course our trademark ‘Reserve’ capping plate, every component has been carefully considered to produce a superior quality fine wine cellar that will ‘stand the test of time’. All of our cellars are manufactured in a white finish as standard, although other colour options are available upon request. Specific interior lighting, floor and tread finishes as well as other areas of bespoke detailing are also available.
WINE CELLAR CONSTRUCTION
I
n order to ascertain client-specific requirements, it is necessary for us to obtain a detailed client brief which assists us in the preparation of a tailored proposal, accurately reflecting a client’s needs and desires. This will typically include obtaining details of wines to be stored, total number of bottles, cellar finishes and available access to the wine cellar. Once a ‘client brief ’ has been agreed, a formal proposal in the form of a written quotation and specification will then be prepared for the approval of the client. Where required, this may include us providing samples for approval where a bespoke finish has been requested. Building Regulations approval and input from a structural engineer are obtained by us as a matter of routine. Due to the high quality of finish demanded by us, this process typically takes around three months to complete from the date an order is placed.
This includes the manufacture of the storage units, spiral stairs, cellar capping, access frame and hatch and the passive ventilation system, not to mention the numerous other quality engineered components that contribute towards the creation of one of our completed wine cellars. Delivery of the various components typically arrives within approximately 10 to 12 weeks. Work can then commence on the excavation and formation of the below ground space into which the cellar base and ‘shell’ can then begin to be formed. Integration of electrical and mechanical services are also an important part of the construction process and this takes place in tandem with the precise installation of the aforementioned manufactured components. From on-site start to completion and subject to prevailing site conditions (water table, existing underground services obstructions) and final specification, you can realistically expect to have your wine cellar installed in approximately three weeks. It’s important to keep in ›
mind that by ordering an underground cellar from Reserve Wine Cellars, you’re obtaining a top-quality product that has been designed, manufactured and finally constructed to an extremely high standard. Please note that our cellars are constructed quite differently from other apparently similar cellars, whereby our build preference follows a more traditional construction approach (fully bedded rather than dry bedded) to help eliminate the risk of potential latent defects, thereby producing a monolithic and naturally more robust finished product.
