UH MANOA POLICY ON GENDER EQUITY IN INTERCOLLEGIATE ATHLETICS G Gender equity in athletics extends the doctrine of fairness tto all areas of athletic activity at the University level. It is aactivated by a sense of moral obligation that exceeds any sspecific duty to comply with legal requirements, although it aalso recognizes the necessity of observing the tenets of Title IIX, Patsy Mink Act. Its desired effect is to offer women and men equal oopportunities to participate in sports for which there is ddemonstrated interest among athletes in Hawai‘i and to pprovide equitable levels of support for coaching, travel, sscholarships, operating expenses and facilities used. Beyond tthese specific goals, gender equity also fosters an attitude aand establishes an environment in which men’s and womeen’s sports are encouraged in comparable ways. Those who support gender equity are willing to coopeerate in frequent self-evaluations and to implement change sso that all student-athletes can have the same opportunity tto realize the highest level of their abilities. A copy of the plan titled, “Believe It, Achieve It,” is available in the Senior Woman Administrator’s Office. 2011 RAINBOW WAHINE VOLLEYBALL
