concept statement concept:

moment

I was committed to provide a soothing, harmonic and personalized pop-up store for Old Navy by using the designed elements of time intersection, time compression, and time cumulation. I wanted to design an oasis of men in town to providing a space where can let men shop here naturally For storefront, I designed a geometric sun shading which is composed by an intersected object as an emphasis on street. Old Navy signage just put on that. Next, inside of retail, I mounted intersection cashwrap which can be an emphasis to catch customers’ eyes ball. On the other hand, for fixture design, filter shade 4-ways fixture to show how Old Navy hold the moment for customers. Also the slatwall fixtures which look like a timeline wall to point the moment by different term of Old Navy’s merchandises. Free wood cases are not only as quick seating but also become a display stage For illumination, the fluorescents with dimmer change by time to create the general environment lighting even. Then, the fixed spot lights highlight the bullet merchandises for customers in retail and track lighting which to polish the merchandises on the walls For material, generally, I used reclaimed wood on fixtures to contrast with white paint walls with topaz texture to reduce the noisy from street. I choose ecological Concrete which have different

NEW world, NEW style ...

201

202

VIEW FROM FRONT DOOR Hao Design was committed to provide an intertwined environment with sidewalk, road, and exterior landscape

203

walls The exterior walls are only around 20% solid walls and the other transparent walls to transport more indirect day light into space. On the other hand, I make stair as an entire structure which connect to the exterior wall and hang down from second floor to reduce the supporters use. Generally, what I learned from international style is to simplify as much as possible but still serve the clients as good as possible. Materials : Ecological concrete with epoxy finish which increase smoothness to reflect the direct daylight.

204

VIEW FROM sidewalk Shade with ash to shade the directed daylight and intertwine with building. The other steel panel extend from entrance to the stair doesn’t link up with building to avoid the snow collection. The semi - closed exterior walls are to avoid the strong reflection from snow 205

material Ecological concrete with different quality of dark epoxy finish which increase coefficient of friction to avoid to slip and keep the heat.

206

VIEW FROM lake Angle brackets truss the second floor out of first floor for terminating into cantilevers. Staircase is a structure which extend from exterior wall to remove the supporters of stair

207

ceiling & floor I mount a cove skylight extend from first floor to the roof to refract daylight and also can be a chimney to release dirty air. Second floor trusses out as a positive and transparent structure. Entire top of structure have tactics to avoid snow water.

208

VIEW FROM lake Positive and negative construction to emphasize the design concept “intertwine“ curtains for windows are rotatable to control the refraction of daylight. The ash shades are going along the building to the basement and side of lake. 209

210

light I mount some shades on the solar path side which are rotatable and change by time. Cove of skylight become a principal illumination to entire building.

VIEW FROM ENTRANCE Solid wood furniture support to contrast with the bright walls and ceilings to create way finding. Electric LED panel beside stair can show off the works and autobiography of Stickley 211

212

furnishings To simplify the indoor structure and make place wider to release the room as gallery. Less is more!! All room can be more functional.

VIEW FROM EXIT OF STAIR Ceiling and floor are concrete with black and high coefficient of friction isn’t only to avoid sliding and also absorb the refracted daylight and heat the room

213

acknowledgement

I am very grateful for the strong support a guidance provided to me by all of the professors in my portfolio. They are Mr. Tobi, Mrs. Stephanie Mrs. Millie, Mr. Ernest, Mr. Roger, and Mr. Ivan, who helped me for good knowledge about interior design and also put me a lot in my portfolio. I am very thankful to them for the same.
