Whatever space and time mean, place and occasion mean more, for space in the image of man is place, and time in the image of man is occasion. - Aldo van Eyck, 1961 Each individual is similar to the point that affects its surrounding space. The relations between us and other things build invisible lines. I am curious about this interaction between space and human.

01 FRAME OF REFERENCE Liverpool Film School

Liverpool is a famous place for filming. Hundreds of films and television shows have been partially or wholly set in here.

Three frames are set up on the site based on the boundaries of early buildings. These frames divide the site into five zones: film pavilion, film plaza, reception, main-functional area, and external film studio. A straight street connects these zones and provides a film-related journey for visitors. In the first zone, pedestrians are attracted by the LED Billiards, which shows short clips of the film presented in the back cinema. Once they get into the film plaza, they are immersed in the exhibition of students' work. In the reception, visitors can have a glimpse of what happened next. Then, they come to the vast central atrium, which has high flexibility. Finally, they reach the external film studio. The brick arches and the scenery from the canal enrich the context for this film shooting area. Artistically, Moholy-Nagy's painting and theory are applied to the organization of the project. The simple geometries overlay with each other and are defined with various functions. From the top view, classrooms and offices form rectangles. The film studio creates a circle. The three frames are seen as three lines cut between these geometries. Also, the central street acts as the lines connecting all of them. Site & Context The film school, which is located near the Stanley Dock in north Liverpool, aims to express this city's film culture to all visitors. Numbers of famous films are shoot on this UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is also inside the Tens Street zone where connects Liverpool Water to other parts of the city and builds a creative district in Liverpool. For the overall planning strategy, the school only occupies half of the site and left an open plaza for all citizens to rest and enjoy the film's atmosphere.

Volume strategy: Spatial depth in Moholy Nagy's drawing The idea was generated from the painting 'Composition' by LĂĄszlĂł-Moholy-Nagy. The pure geometries are overlapping and set in various transparency. The lines, circles, and rectangles are related to each other and have their own identity and canvas relation. I try to use the site as the canvas drawing 3D masses refer to the site's characteristics. A similar feeling of pureness is maintained, and exciting spaces are formed by overlapping.

Water Collection

Transparent PV Panels

BMS system (Building management system

Granite pavement is used in the front plaza to allow water to permeate through the ground surface and be captured in the underground storage system. Some of the greywater can be used for the irrigation of the greenery. The purifying system is also installed.

The PV panels are located on the double-glazed roof and south elevation. Providing electricity for lighting and prevent over-heating of the building.

Stack ventilation + Mechanical ventilation

The roof glazing system and windows can be automatically open and closed to control the air ventilation due to various climate and light conditions. The installation of this system aims to provide suitable conditions for the users and save energy as well.

The cold air from the canal crosses through the south side building into the multi-stories atrium and comes out through the roof window. This natural ventilation is multiplied by the underfloor heating Because the heating system heats the air at lower levels. Moreover, as the construction section shows, heat recovery ventilation is also installed to provide fresh air. Especially for the studio and workshop, the dust is avoided, but the heat remains. Acoustic Louvers or silencers are installed to reduce noises.

Zoning

Underfloor Heating

WSHP

Depending on the using time and temperature, the building is divided into different zones for heating. The minimum energy is used to provide a consistent temperature for the whole building. The area, which is necessary to open 24h, has a separated heating zone. The south block may need less energy because it has been heated by strong sunlight.

1. Using the warm water running through the hightech plastic pipe installed on clip rails under the floor. 2. Using the heating energy from the water source heat pump. 3. hot air is generated at the bottom and is extracted from the roof window and side windows.

The heating pump is installed in the basement. Environmentally friendly energy is used, including circulating water from the canal and power from the windmill. 2. The WSHP Provides hot water for shower rooms and toilets and Reduces electric energy used for space heating. Also, electricity can be used for facilities like lifts to run.

Sustainability Strategy : Use emerge from the canal and wind

Shading in south facade The overhanging roof provides shading in the south facade. The transparent PV panels block the direct sunlight into the building. Also, low brushes outside the ground floor refectory add coldness into this area.

02 HOMELY HOUSE Loneliness to belong: Use co-living as a method to test the relationship among young people. Loneliness is common among college students. According to the university mental health survey in 2018, worry and loneliness are the primary mental issue and are very strongly correlated. High school to university is a significant social transition from one stage of life to the next. The relationship, routine, behavior, and roles change sharply in this late adolescence. For most students, this period is the first time they move away from home. The change of domicile and changes in the relationships with family members highly raise emotional loneliness, especially for international students (Int J Environ Res Public Health).

I try to search through Herman Hertzberger's theory about how spatial conditions can stimulate community life and human interaction. In his student apartment in Amsterdam, students eat their meals in huge open catering. Students get a sense of belonging since they know what each other are doing. The resident on the upper floor can lean her body forward and chat with others in the garden. Moreover, the function of the building elements depends on the users. The bench on the balcony turns into an eating table. The window turns into a chatting room ( Aldo van Eyck's work). The project is located near three universities in Liverpool. These strategies are adopted to create an affiliative community for each resident. • Minimize individual activities. • Remain the character of each resident. • Maximum the encounter, communication, and interaction.

03 PURE GALLERY A place for each citizen to share their story

Liverpool has been the city that fights for LGBT rights and social equality for a long time. Lesbian and gay pride, combined with art exhibitions and talks, are announced unofficially since the 1990s. It paves the way for the contemporary Homotopia festival held annually in Liverpool from late October to November every year. The festival shows excellent examples of how an assortment of art, like film, theater, photography, comedy, and storytelling, can significantly enrich social justice work. "Tales from the city exhibition" is also held in the Museum of Liverpool, celebrating the 50 years of LGBT life in Liverpool. Moreover, a Pride festival held on the closest weekend to 2 August has become one of the largest Pride festivals in Europe.

Inspired by the artwork, Turn the Space Over, I wish the project could turn the darkest side out and stimulate people to understand each other through painting and communication. I am also willing to see it be demolished one day as there is no sexual inequality. The three stages of fighting are focused on: 1. In the 18th century, gay bars ( or molly houses) let people freely be themselves without prejudice from others. 2. In the pride parade, they go out of the crowd and declare their right. 3. The Homotopia festival uses art to make more people understand. The stages are transformed into three zones inside the gallery that visitors can feel protected, proud, and equal. Regardless of their sexual orientation, each citizen should be encouraged to place their artwork in the gallery. The project is similar to other festivals but lasted for a long time until this specific social issue has been solved.

"Turn the space over" is Richard Wilson's artwork in the East of the site at the cross key house, a famous derelict building in Liverpool. It consisted of an 8 meters diameter ovoid cut from the facade and can rotate in three dimensions. The specially designed rotator is placed at the back for this dynamic movement. From my perspective, this movement gives the darkest side a chance to be viewed by the public. Linking this with social equality, I hope my building could break the boundary between people with different sexual orientations. All love should be the same.

Jounery Air gallery

The urban explorer arrived at a space like no other. Beautiful sculptures were situated on an undulating surface, and slots in the ground showed glimpses of space beneath. Curiosity pulled her into the building, where she descended slowly down. There she encountered a large area with an undulating ceiling. The soft light came through from above. She wandered around the space and stopped at a painting that stirred something inside her. As she stood there, tears came to her eyes. Exploring further, she looked out on to a courtyard where leaves of ivy were softly moving in the breeze. She then ascended stairs rising higher and higher until she reached a new linear space. The art displayed here was beautiful and intense. With a sense of direction and purpose, she continued.

04 PARADISE The operating manual for Post - Covid community

" We are called to be architects of the future, not its victims. " Buckminster Fuller stated that architects should constructively act to endless crises ahead instead of passively solve the issues that already emerged.

Thus, life after the Coronavirus should be seriously considered. What if the Coronavirus never ends or a more severe disease happens? The designer assumed that humans are in extreme living conditions with the ongoing epidemic. Each citizen should seriously follow the rules announced by experts. This new community is a place, which provides adequate medical support to each citizen and guarantees healthy urban life.

To limits the chance of cross-infection, the hospital should be placed inside the postcovid community. Moreover, Other facilities depend on residents' demands should also be considered. Recently various strategies have already been used to enable the normal function of public spaces (collage right) . The design would turn these strategies into the spatial qualities of the community.

The site is located in the suburb of Paris. The monumental postmodern housing ‘Les espaces d’abraxas’ , designed by Richard Bofill, is opposite to the site. The analysis is made among multiple courtyards in the surrounding contexts. The routes of visitors define the openness of these courtyards. It is concluded that the enclosed courtyard is an efficient way to register and examine residents entering the community, which is vital to control the epidemic.
