The biggest issue of the site is clear to be seen: the viaduct with trains running from Manchester Piccadilly to Manchester Oxford road. The bridge arch is approximately 10m tall, which is the perfect height for two-storey retail units. Therefore, we decided to take the issue as opportunity and move away the several remianing buildings at the front of the site for maximun day light except for the authentic pub on the bottom right, and use let the viaduct pass through the site.

Arch positioning

In our project, there is a sky bridge at 40m above ground, serving as a public space for gathering and exhibiting. According to the wind analysis of Manchester and the height difference of both towers, it is important to stabilize the bridge. However, the penetration of our sky bridge is not parallel to the grid due to functional and circulation reasons, it is quite unlikely to connect the truss structure to the core of the towers. Therefore, we will introduce another technique called truss arch bridge. Basically, the truss arch is a classic bridge structure which has been put into construction for decades and easy to find all over the world. It is light, simple and easy to build, and the arch shape blends very elegantly with our existing sky bridge.

Arches with extra structural columns

Structurally, the arch extension continues from the current bridge and follows its span, each of the piers lands on an extra structural column, surpassing the current grid. Additionally, the whole bridge including the arch reinforcement should be installed as separated parts.

SITE

Site Analysis Located on the north coast of Java Island, Jarkarta is a tropical country with a typical monsoon climate. The site is near the center of the city, with heavy traffic, high population and building density, multi-religious neighbourhood, air polution, sinking ground...everything inside a developing country, which makes this project quite unique.

Kampungs in Jakarta

With a tropical monsoon climate, the vegetation in Jakarta is luxuriant. However, with only a humble one-way street in front of the site and a sidewalk occupied by Kakilimas (the Indonesian word for street vendors), there is no public space left for daily activities.

BONDING PROCESS

Concept

Nepal's traditional Vaastu Pattern

Our project will facilitate this bonding process through its building phase as well as its phase of use. The people for whom the building is intended will also be involved in the building of the school itself which leads to a sense of belonging, creating bonds between the people. We have created spaces to symbolize the different stages in personal development through education as well as the development of the community as a whole through teamwork. The aforementi o n e d s p a c e s a r e organized in an order of stages of development while also following the traditional Vaastu Purusha philosophy for a harmonized and peaceful site.

General Introduction Benefiting from Hangzhou's welldeserved reputation as a holiday destination, Antaeus Group are developing a new resort combining business and leisure functions. Covering almost 22 ha at the confluence of two rivers, Haskoll's competition winning concept design is being fully developed through scheme and detail design stages – including architecture and interior designs.

25

Fusing the Mangrove Tree's brand of culture-focused activities with local radition,Haskoll's designs fully exploit the riveredge to provide wetlands, a water park, traditional ‘water village'streetscapes, quaysides, spas and bridges. These nestle around a conference centre, cinema park and art and sculpture galleries. 1,600 keys are distributed in three types of hotel and a range of villas.

City Culture + Architectural Environment Creating more space customers to stay and talk and rest. Meanwhile to improve the shopping experience, which will no longer monotonous.

Landscape

Green Environment + Natural Space Introducing some natural items into architectural space, it can help to create some opened or semi-opened spaces, which are used to separate different functional areas gently. In the meantime, basing on those green spaces, some quiet and independent shopping spaces will be delivered to different shopping groups.
