While other disciplines can be seen as different modes of transformation of "phenomenon" and "concept," architecture derives "form" by studying how form interacts with its intended audiences. Therefore, the perception of such connection is instrumental in helping a building's users make sense of their surroundings; in other words, whether a space is meaningful or not largely depends on whether a feeling of consistency is established between a realized building's form and its dwellers. Representational and formal architecture gestures may produce a strong sense of consistency during a short period. Still, at a larger scale in time and space, people will quickly see through the superficiality and become dislocated. People's understanding of architecture comes from consistency between the behavior mode a building delineates and its users' demand. The source of this sense of character is not limited to whether the architecture itself takes on a consistent appearance, but instead whether it provides an experience that first matches and then exceeds people's expectations. The way to create meaningful space is to regard architecture as anchor points, abandoning the obvious, and starting from the causes that shape users' living conditions. In such a state, with the accumulation of time, the representations of architecture in its users' cognitions will gradually transform from fragments to a coherent unity.

Projection of fictional imagination to reality & accumulated units

2019

In order to realize the coherence from concept to function, this scheme takes the method of "ModuleNarrative" as the starting point, introduces the basic module unit combination of the "Cairo mosaic" and translates into a three-dimensional dodecahedron, and draws lessons from the famous sci-fi work "Hyperion",by Dan Simmons, together with the story of “Yggdrassil” in Nordic mythology, the prototype of the giant tree ship the pilgrims took, and the story of the world tree connecting all races in the world, using superposition of multi-level dodecahedron models, so that the users can develop their own professional knowledge system in production, learning and research. At the same time, it can actively carry out multi-disciplinary integration and exchange activities. The design divides the space generation into "guide" and "slice" to generate the central dendriform space and to respond to the concepts. The design subject not only emphasizes the definiteness of zoning, but also uses gray space on a large scale, which becomes the external medium to introduce different professional fields. The site selection is combined with the site to connect the surrounding building groups, which becomes an all-weather open space for public communication between students and teachers.

Status Comparison

Nordic Myth

The world tree connects nine different regions of the world. Different races are usually separated while gather in certain situations. Users integrate the thought system they have learned into a "system" with complete internal logic, and from this system, ideas that conform to the system structure and laws are extended in an orderly way.

Learning-Systematology

In the process of research, users need to select the information to meet their ideological system. In the process of communication with others, the rules of information measurement, transmission and transformation can be summarized through mathematical logic.

Research-Information Theory The realization process of the product needs to meet the control relationship between biological and abiotic, forming a feedback mechanism which is in line with the actual use demand, so as to achieve the self-adaptive of product and ideological system.

Production-Cybernetics

Hyperion

By Dan Simmons, seven pilgrims with different stories setting out to the same destination in search of the source of their experience.

Concept Generation

The common point between myth and sci-fi works is that both of them reflect the creators' interpretation of the unknown. The former originates from unexplained natural phenomena, while the latter comes from the continuous exploration of technological innovation. The service objects of integration architecture of production, teaching and research also produce the process from design to realization. Such a system is consistent with myth and sci-fi in that they share the same idealistic nature. 4

Intention Transformation

The crown part of "World Tree" is transformed into annular Dendriform Space, branch support and pentagonal top cover; The "Nine Worlds" are transformed into the territory-like space division of podium; The infinite extension of tree root is transformed into the dense effect of Cairo Mosaic pentagons on the plane.

Requirement Outlook

People the service provided by this comprehensive building is intended for include both teachers and students on campus, as well as visitors and academic exchanging personnel outside the school. As time goes by every single day, the use purpose and demand degree of different groups will also change. The design scheme focuses on the promoting weak functions to provide better quality of life on campus.

Combination

Strategy Generation

The scheme is inspired by the famous sci-fi novel series, "Hyperion", by Dan Simmons. Students and Teachers of different subjects are like pilgrims in the book, and the different stories narrated converge in the center. "Yggdrasil" is a giant tree connecting different races in Nordic mythology. The podium around it for different subjects is similar to the living environment of these races. The ecological relationships among organisms are different in different levels of "tree". In the scheme, the relationship between different levels is compared with the ecological change from root to crown, forming a functional organization mode of mutual communication within the same layer and full streamline of thought flowing between different layers.

Accessory Components

The top surface adopts the frame glass roof by the way similar to “Cairo mosaic”, which cling to each other through the coincide side lines, and floats to a certain height of the building entity; several root shaped inclined columns are added inside as concept elements.

Profile Perspective

The internal space organization creates a variety of space experience. The central dendriform space forms a circular streamline and oblique traffic, while the outer podium enables the external pedestrian flow to enter the building from multiple directions. The two different forms of formation echo the ecological environment concept that "tree" is rooted in the soil provided by school environment, surrounded by pores, and regards multidisciplinary learning, R & D and production as the sustainable supply of air and water.

Site Location

Outward Perspective 1 External Relations

The site of the scheme is at the edge of the school, adjacent to the designing departments and Art Museum. In the internal traffic of the campus, it is along the shuttle bus line and close to the east gate which is along the subway. The flow of people and vehicles gather from multiple directions, meanwhile lacking motivation to stay in the site.

Function Configuration

Functions re roughly located on the north and south sides of the scheme according to the locations. The north side is closer to the diocese district, focusing on the conceptual design, display of products, and catering close to the needs of students; the south side is closer to the main communication channel on and off campus, so it is more inclined to the public function of academic visiting from outside the school. The two groups of functions are connected with each other by the inner communication spaces.

Internal Perspective

According to the functional configuration in the scheme, different visual perceptions are added to the usage experience from the internal perspective. For example, the lecture room and meeting room are facing the central dendriform open space, while the digital reading room is facing the facade of the art museum, and the discussion terrace can have a panoramic observation of the external environment.

Dendriform Perspective Entrance Perspective

Many ways of entering the building are selected, and the entrance of the building also adopts different coping strategies according to the different functional requirements of the organization mode. The flow of people is divided and infiltrated, and the parallel and vertical combination modes are given for the access route. The model of these entrances, including concaved and open ground floor enhances the attraction for the flow of people, which corresponds to the important idea gathering function of the building.

Space Feeling

The geometrical generated architectural form provides space feelings with strong echoing characteristic under different perspectives, and also contains the metaphorical characteristic of guiding the line of sight direction and functional streamline. For the source of design inspiration, it achieves the effect of projecting fictional imagination to reality.

Prison Museum Tilanqiao,Shanghai

Commonality between modern society and special places 2018

Instructor: Weiguo Xu

This design is to build a Prison Museum on the planned green space near the old Tilanqiao prison in Shanghai. The design purpose is to illustrate the relationship between human and society through special building such as prison museum. The idea was come from Jeremy Bentham's "Panopticon" theory and Michel Foucault’s work,Discipline and Punish. In the proposal, through the exterior design and the arrangement of internal flow line, the space feeling connected inside and outside is created, meanwhile, making different visitors have different experience. It makes visitors experience the commonness between prison and social environment, and warns the world that the society also has the characteristics of realizing self-regulation at the minimum cost. The design reviews the history of the site, analyzes the factors that form modern people's selfnormalization behavior, and puts forward its own opinions on the transformation of different production relations in modern and modern society. Moreover, the proposal attached great importance to integrate the building with the surrounding environment, so as to create a landscape on the site.

Around 1800, a bridge across the narrow river channel was built near the Xiahai Temple. Because there was a primitive business form of selling baskets, it was called Tilanqiao.

The wharf began to be built in the Tilanqiao area, it became the starting point for modern Chinese intellectuals to study in Europe.

Since 1943, about 25000 Jewish refugees gathered in the Tilanqiao area to receive asylum and relief. Their existence has brought indelible influence on this area and the city.

In the 1950s, the low and old bungalows in this area began to be replaced by new lane houses, and then new village residential areas were built.

The largest prison in the Far East was built by the Bureau of Work, Shanghai Public Concession in Tilanqiao area, where revolutionaries and war criminals were held in different periods.

The large area of the prison began to hinder the planning and construction of the city, and the transformation of the prison function has become an urgent matter.

Since the 1920s, Jews, Russians and other foreigners began to move to this area.

The Jewish Refugee Memorial hall has become the best place to preserve the Jewish cultural and historical imprint in the Tilanqiao area.

By the 1940s, Tilanqiao area had become a prosperous area of commercial prosperity, especially hardware and leather.

The wharf area for loading and unloading goods has been transformed into a riverside public space for citizens to visit, which provides guidance for the diversification of urban space.

Timeline

Social Patterns

The social patterns, which changes with the time gradually remind the residents of the impact of new power. The relations of production, by the way, adapt to the changes of the times, shaping a modern social form that has no actual supervision but can normalize the public.

The region’s changing from the primitive stage, being commercialized and gradually transmuted after violent turbulence, while in recent years, gradually starting to renew provides the ideological source for the design scheme.

The slow renewal of the primitive state maintains the stability of social relations.

The division of concession brought about the impact of social senses.

The reinforcement of heterogeneous state deepens the normalization towards the primitive state.

The participation of external social groups expands the social consciousness of native residents. The further development of society touches the boundary of self cognition.

City Superposition

Temples, prisons and refugee settlements bring memories of different historical stages. At the same time, the area is also adjacent to the new commercial plaza and the waterfront public space after the retirement of the old industry.

10

Behavior Model

People's behavior is closely related to the change of social production relations, so the injection of external power has changed people's primitive living habits in an irreversible way. People gradually adapt to this change and become real "modern people".

Architectural Patterns

With the development of time, the function of the nearby buildings gradually changes from the primitive composite function to the more subdivided social division of labor. This process is accelerating, corresponding to the self-awareness and social vision of modern people.

Streamline Analysis

In order to form a fuzzy space state for indoor and outdoor feeling, the streamline in the design is not limited to one route to a certain position. It can be passed from indoor to outdoor. In addition, people can visit the building with a loop line, and can get the experience of observation without repetition.

Strategy Generation

The building follows the design strategy from the perspective of public service, which makes the boundary between the internal and external of the two-story building not obvious. The first floor of the building forms three separated parts, and the second floor is connected in series to form a circular whole. The streamline arrangement inside the building makes visitors feel as if they are in a “Klein bottle”. The route of entering and leaving do not cross each other, which makes each visitor feel differently.

Subject Matters

Through different flow lines into a section of the building, visitors' perception of space will be different, which is similar to the opinion that people's different self-awareness is caused by the different subject matters in the society they refer to.

External Relations

Because of the four sides' average of the building itself, the external relations depends on the site. The two perpendicular axes of the entrance correspond to the living-commercial part and public open space part respectively, providing a good detour experience.

Internal and External Relations

The relationship between the interior and exterior of the building is not only formed by the scattered space guided by the subtle change of the volume, but also completed by the corresponding relationship between the external demands and the internal functions.

Site Design

In the design of the site, according to the axis direction, the plaza pavement is divided from the inside to the outside, which can not only guide the sight line from the outside to the inside, but also guide the streamline of people to the Prison Museum.

Visiting Experience

The visiting experience inside the museum is guided by the natural light transmitted from the oblique glass volume, which simulates the state of the prison and guides the visitors to think about the similarity between the invisible normalization in the society and the rules in the prison.

The New Zu Mountain Cities Exploration of a new urban model 2050

Shenzhen -Hong Kong Bi-City Biennale of Urbanism/Architecture 2019.12-2020.1 Participants: Ziyu Zhuang (RSAA/Büro Ziyu Zhuang), Boyuan Jiang (Studio NOR) Team: Ziyu Zhuang, Boyuan Jiang, Na Li, Haozhen Yang(Concept Design:70%; Chronicle Compilation:50%; Drawing Arrangement:All),Zehan Chen, Xin Zhao, Hanfei Li The growing environmental challenge is once again threatening traditional human dwelling forms. The Global Sea Level Rise forces substantial amount of people migrating to higher-inland cities, intensifying the insufficiency of spatial resources provided by those old cities and towns, which have already failed to promptly respond to the massive data generated and required by urban

metabolism and management. As one attempt among many others to develop new dwelling models, a group of people, under the common name of the “Mountainers”, inspired by the ecological engineering of the Dujiangyan Irrigation System, decided to

establish the “New Zu Mountain City” in Chengdu’s surrounding mountains. Utilizing cutting-edge Material Science and Artificial

Intelligence technology, they try to achieve a new balance between artificial and natural environments by carefully and precisely reshaping nature itself.

Unlike those who choose to stay in the old city where traditional construction continues, the Mountainers partially restructured the

molecular sequence in the rocks to transform an entire mountain into a “supercomputer”, and improve crystal growth technology

to make real-time alternations to the mountain forms. Thus, the mountains, serving as both computing media and outcomes, can increase urban data processing efficiency and spontaneously respond to ecological changes and social demands by adjusting their own forms. As the mountains constantly changing their appearance, different social groups are connected both physically and digitally while every single citizen is updating and maintaining the city as a programmer. Seen from the old city, the New Zu

Mountain City, with its monumental “façade” and countless subtle formal nuances combining artificial and natural traces, manifests

the belief of the Mountainers: “There is no prior division between human and nature, as they construct each other: human is an evolutionary legacy of nature, and nature is an imaginary illusion of human.”

Real Scene of Dujiangyan

Dujiangyan is a model of architectures built by both man power and natural environment. For more than 2000 years, Dujiangyan has become an important factor in creating an ideal living environment for Chengdu Plain in the lower Sichuan Basin. Today, it has also become the ideological source for us to explore the new mode of human settlements.

The summertime Arctic Sea Ice cease to exist, and large areas of coastal low-lying plains around the world are salinized due to seasonal inundation. A large number of refugees from coastal and estuary deltas flock to higher-inland cities.

2030 CE.

In March, the Martian Immigration Plan “Marsch” is declared to fail due to the solar power supply system paralyzed by an intense Martian dust storm. The dispute between the “Space Faction” and the “Earth Faction” in the global scientific community comes to an end. In August, a multinational joint scientific research team announces major breakthrough in controllable fusion technology and successfully develops the first generation nuclear fusion drive engine, which utilizes a magnetic field to capture negative point materials and fuse them to produce energy. Governments in major countries immediately begin to adopt this technology in their civil projects.

2031 CE.

With further environmental deterioration and increasing population overload problem in global inland cities, urban management and maintenance costs have risen all the way up, and the original industrial era infrastructure has gradually failed to match the new technological requirements of the information age. In April, the Chinese government officially launched the "Luban Plan" aimed at exploring a new type of living environment. In December, a Chinese scientific research team announces major breakthrough in molecular sequence reconstruction technology, allowing humans to change the microstructure of matter at the molecular level on a large scale to adjust its physical properties.

Sight of the Mountaion City on the UFT

The "Plainers" adopted a more conservative urban formation mode to renew the technology in the industrial era, resulting in a faster and more developed transportation system, such as the "Chengdao" ultra fast train.

2033 CE.

Inspired by the Dujiangyan Irrigation System, Professor Pan Gu, a core member of the Chinese molecular sequence reconstruction technology research team, proposes the “New Road to Zu Conception”, hoping to create a semi-artificial, semi-natural human dwelling environment through carefully and precisely reshaping nature itself with molecular sequence reconstruction technology. This Conception is subsequently widely discussed in society and become a key scientific research project of the second “Luban Plan”.

2034 CE.

In April , Pan Gu' s team successfully develops a new molecular etching technology based on molecular sequence reconstruction technology, which can further change the local properties of matter through the conversion of the electronic energy level inside the molecule.

2035 CE.

Fushion Power Station

After the birth of controllable nuclear fusion technology, fusion power station, as the energy source of new Shushan City, has become an important part of the city.

In October, based on the research result s of Pan Gu's team, material scientist Professor Jing Wei and her team successfully develops a crystal growth activator which can be applied to rocks. This “Rock Activating Agent”, allowing human to shape mountain forms at a low cost and to make rocks conduct electricity, lays the technological foundation for the realization of the “New Road to Zu Conception”.

2036 CE.

In September, the first-generation Rock Activating Agent achieved mass production. The “New Road to Zu Conception” once again become a hot topic for social discussion. The society gradually divided into two factions, namely the “Mountainers” and the “Plainers”, according to whether they agree with the Conception’s proposal. The Plainers criticize the Conception as a costly and environmental unfriendly project, and believe that the society should still focus on upgrading the existing industrial infrastructures. However, in the face of the increasing challenges of the living environment, the government still decides to set up an interdisciplinary team under the “Luban Plan” to advance the implementation of the Conception. In December, the “New Zu Mountain City Phase I Project Preparatory Command” is established.

2038 CE.

In May, the team led by Academician Gong Gong, the Engineering Department Chief of the Preparatory Command, completes the “New Zu Mountain City Phase I Design Proposal” and receives construction approval. Large-scale reformation of mountain mass using the “ Rock Activating Agent” officially starts.

2039 CE.

In November, major construction of the Phase I land transportation network is completed. Caves and rock bridges connect the mountains with each other, serving as pathways for pedestrians, vehicles, water resources and electrical energy, as well as reserved shortcuts for wildlife migration. In December, the “New Zu Mountain City Power Center No.1” is completed and put into trial operation, providing basic energy supply for the entire Phase I project.

Snow Scenery on the Rock Bridges

With the completion of the construction of the rock bridges covering the distance between mountains, the originally rugged and steep Road to Zu has been transformed into a thoroughfare, and the goods and materials can be transported efficiently through this convenient road. Meanwhile, the high-altitude wind and snow weather become a unique landscape.

2040 CE.

In April, the “Mountain Spring Water and Snow Melt Water Diversion and Pumping Canal and Tunnel Project”, constructed simultaneously with the land transportation network project, is completed. In October, construction of the first “cave housing” is completed. By constructing columnar rock towers in existing caves and introducing natural light through optical fibers, the settlement greatly reduces heating and cooling energy consumption.

2041 CE.

In January, the construction of the “Mountain Internal Power Grid” is completed. However, its periodic operation causes frequent fluctuations in the high-speed full-cycle compression communication network covering the whole city. Dr. Yu Gong from Pan Gu's team proposed the solution of rock surface etching to form a molecular-level integrated circuit network to conduct electrical signals. This solution uses the “mark” generated in the molecule to avoid the risk of the circuit network being affected by the external mountain rock morphological changes. In December, Dr. Yu Gong and the Scientific Research Department of the Preparatory Command integrates the molecular sequence reconstruction technology, the molecular etching technology and the crystal growth technology to successfully invents the second generation of “Rock Activating Agent”, which allows human to change the rock form and construct internal mountain electricity and data

2042 CE.

In September, the “New Zu Mountain City Rock Activating Agent Factory” is completed. Professor Jing Wei and Dr. Yu Gong form a scientific research team to begin developing the third generation “Rock Activating Agent” in the factory. In December, Gong Gong‘s team starts to carry out the feasibility design research work of the “New Zu Mountain City Phase II Project".

2043 CE.

On November 21, under the leadership of Academician Fu Xi, the head of the Supercomputing Center of the Preparatory Command, the first generation “mountain supercomputer”- the “Mounputer 1” is completed and put into trial operation. Using natural water cycle as its coolant, the cubic mountain contains a supercomputer centrally handling the massive data required for Phase I Project’s operation. Fu Xi further proposes a plan to build multiple small Mounputers in the city to form a joint computing network, namely the “Mounputer Net”, to improve processing accuracy of the system. In the same year, the New Zu Mountain City Management Committee designates November 21 as the city’s statutory holiday, the “Mounputer Memorial Day”.

Living Environment The living environment inside the mountain can be adjusted by the residents themselves. The columnar rock towers and natural light sources in the cave can not only effectively reduce the energy consumption of residents, but also shorten the distance between residents and the natural environment.

2044 CE.

In April, the first group of residents, mainly composed of the Mountainers in Chengdu, officially settled in the mountains through a lottery process. They begin to participate in various construction works including locally adjusting the mountain forms according to their own needs. In September, the Preparatory Command’s Environmental Committee announced that the “Phase I Environmental Protection and Rehabilitation Project” is successfully completed. In November, the Phase II construction of New Zu Mountain City begins.

2045 CE.

Ceremony

In July, the team led by Professor Jing Wei and Professor Yu Gong successfully develops the third generation Rock Activating Agent, enabling the mountain to spontaneously adjust its own morphology in real time responding to the electrical signals transmitted in the rocks. This invention prompts Fu Xi's team to speed up the research and development of the Mounputer Net.

Rock Activating Agent is an indispensable part of the production and life of residents in New Zu Mountain City, so the day when the factory produces Activating Agent and distributes it to every citizen becomes a festival for holding meetings.

2046 CE.

Five medium-sized Mounputers and many small ones are put into operation, marking the establishment of the Mounputer Net. In November, in view of the strong self-correction and confidentiality capabilities of the Mounputer Net supported by AI and blockchain technology, the People's Congress of the New Zu Mountain City votes to let the Mounputer Net to handle part of the nonemergency city management function. This decision effectively reduces government management cost and triggers relevant pilot reforms in many parts of the country.

2048 CE.

Academician Pan Gu, Academician Jing Wei, Academician Fu Xi and Professor Yu Gong are awarded the State Science and Technology Progress Award for their contribution to the New Zu Mountain City. The “Zu Mountain Model”, together with the “Lou Lan Model” and the “Dong Ting Model” are widely reported by international media as typical cases of China's exploration of new human dwelling environments, attracting visiting delegations from all over the world.

2049 CE.

Mountains

In May, the Phase II project of the New Zu Mountain City, with a total area of approximately three times of Phase I, is officially completed. In November, a large number of new residents move into the mountain city, greatly easing the overpopulation problem in Sichuan and Chongqing regions. The achievements of the New Zu Moutnain City have gradually been recognized by the Plainers, resulting in the disappearance of the dispute between the two factions.

"Mounputers" are the center of processing massive information of the New Zu Mountain City. In the process of city establishment, people gradually realize that technology can play a stronger role when organically connected with nature than only as technology itself. Therefore, there is a kind of simple reverence for the platform-shaped mountains containing both artificial form and natural characteristics.

2050 CE.

In August, all 23 first-generation Mounputers are upgraded to second generation. In November, the famous documentary writer Bai Taili published her new book, “The Road to Zu” on the “Mounputer Memorial Day”, which records in detail the entire founding process of the New Zu Mountain City from conception to construction. In December, the New Zu Mountain City is awarded the UN Habitat Scroll of Honor Award together with seven other new settlements around the world.

According to the different ways of their contribution to the society, the residents of the New Zu Mountain City chose different addresses in the mountain. With the Rock Activating Agent produced by the factories in the mountain as the pen, everyone became the compiler of updating and maintaining the social operation of the New Zu Mountain City. Many New Zu Mountain Cities are linked to each other, by the way they can check and correct each other to ensure the reasonable operation of the city group.

The Reverse Mode of Urban Formation The current urban growth modes are to build satellite city horizontally and to develop vertically to the sky or underground. In fact, it has become an image of mountains constructed by man-made materials and manmade environment. In the construction of the "New Zu Mountain City", people dig into the interior of the mountain and construct the city with the materials of the mountain itself, which is a reverse interpretation of the formation of the city. The transformed mountains are connected with each other in series, or take on enough functions with huge volume, or imitate the structure of Taihu stone, and become the product with dual characteristics of nature and artificiality.

After hundreds of years of urban renewal, the new buildings and original architectural spaces overlap and echo each other, forming a hybrid urban form. Under

Scenery Experience The scheme is located in the Tianqiao area of the south section of the central axis of Beijing city. The flow of people brought by the former site of ancient palaces, memorial public places and commercial areas on the north side gradually reaches a critical point. Meanwhile, the residential area on the south side of the area, which is more inclined to urban residents, can not be separated due to the lag of planning and the ritualized architecture of temples, which makes the area become the low tide of urban space.

the overall of the grand narrative of Beijing Central Axis, Site of this project is the part which locates outside the old city, that is, the junction between the religious temples and the noisy and prosperous civilian settlements with civilian market and showbiz characteristics, which contains not only memorial public space and service functions with an urban scale, but also small-scale space serving local communities.

The techniques of Chinese classical paintings are introduced to explain the different states of buildings in the design. The different images in the painting are transformed into architectural

At present, the relationship between the area and the central axis is in a state of "virtual contact". In order to enhance the connection, multiple means are used in the scheme to enhance the dimension of public space, such as expanding green space, reappearing the traces of historic sites by modern means, establishing internal space logic, and the concretization of cultural introduction.

language, and the relationship between the interior and exterior space of the buildings, the users and the functions is explained by the virtual and real painting techniques. At the same time, the painting technique of Chinese classical painting, that express the evolution process of time by changing the picture, is used to show the pattern of urban renewal. Based on the spatial logic of perspective parallel to the line of sight in Chinese classical paintings, the design distills the way of urban renewal in historical changes, becoming the renewing mode of the area that echos the history, bases on the present and conforms to the future. Different methods are used to materialize the imprint of history, reserve and reappear the relics of various times. The state of architecture in the new era becomes a new interpretation of traditional culture, and extending from this area to the urban space on the central axis of the city.

Site Strategy

After a field visit to the site, it is found that little communication between the residents and the outsiders. Although some complements for the peripheral functions are in the urban construction, they are isolated due to the lack of mutual connection. Therefore, the site strategy adopted in the design is to start from the connection, and take the internal road system as the link to establish a new space order.

Conceptual Representation

In the generation of architectural form, traditional Chinese painting techniques are used as the starting point of architectural language. The site of the scheme is a field located in the outskirts of a big city in history, and gradually becomes a part of the city with the expansion of the city. The urban and landscape paintings of traditional Chinese paintings are mainly presented in the form of long scroll, while in the scheme, the central axis of Beijing city is regarded as a painting scroll, and the site is a section of it.

Texture Changes

The urban texture of the site has undergone many changes in more than 200 years. With the change of time, the main orientation of urban texture renewal, that is, the guiding role of policy, capital and residents' spontaneous behavior, has also changed. At the same time, the integrity of urban texture and the motivative force of change also fluctuate with the guiding role. This historical development process makes the urban texture in the lot accumulate the remains of many historical periods. The superposition of templar, commercial and urban service buildings, as well as the superposition of traditional Chinese urban planning mode and modern western urban planning mode provide a sufficient ideological starting point for the emergence of the scheme.

20

Internal Organization

In the scheme, another focus is the organization of internal transportation, public space and function. Its internal traffic uses the current situation of the subway station to reach the site, forming a combined state of internal community bus, motor vehicle P + R and bicycle loop; the internal public space starts from the mode of external flow of people, with wedge-shaped green space in the north and existing texture configuration in the South; the internal function starts from the expected state of the flow of people penetrating and staying at multi-level receiving position.

Perspective-The Temple of Agriculture

The concepts of tradition and innovation blend with each other in accordance with the logic that history has brought to the city. The line of sight interposes from different angles in the modern form of traditional culture and the communication space transformed from ancient remains.

As the inheritance of history, it retains the possibility of developing to the sky or underground, and becomes the base of the future urban appearance.

Under the logic of binary unity of opposites, the estrangement between ancient and modern, memorial and marketplace, city and community can be reduced, while facing the city with an attitude of openness and facing the future with an attitude of inheritance.

The altar wall of the Temple of Agriculture is transformed into an elevated walk, and its central axis is transformed into a sunken walk.Together with the branching buildings , forms the image of city with "green hill" and "white water".

Spatial Sequence In the scheme, the view direction of each node can be integrated into the direction of Beijing urban axis to form a dendritic echo relationship. Taking the original central axis of The Temple of Agriculture as the main channel in the north-south direction, several nodes along the original wall of The Temple of Agriculture enclosed the spatial sequence of the south side of the site. Each part of the space sequence in the scheme carries part of the function from the outside to the inside. Different directions of space guidance build a link connecting the functions of each part. Compared with the mutual enclosure on the north side of the site, it forms a complementary relationship. 21

Site Plan

City of Dimensional Fibers Yangliuqing, Tianjin UIA-HYP CUP 2020

This design takes "urban fiber" as the concept, intending to seek a way to break through the "pseudo humanistic care" in the post media era. In the current social environment, the information received by people is highly fragmented and instructive, which makes people lack the overall perception of time flow for their own position and perception of the external world. At the same time, due to the confusion of the ways to get material and information, the "humanistic care" that people feel is actually a specious "fake one". The design explores to construct a city structure with complete circulation of material flow and information flow by quoting two kinds of fiber forms, namely "cell" and "textile", so as to enhance urban residents' perception of time and make them have spontaneous perception and identity for the place the stay at. In the design, the four plots are respectively defined as commercial and cultural area, residential area, media information area and material & energy supply area; the four areas are linked and overlapped with composite diversified public spaces; the central subway station becomes the transfer hub of material and information, which makes urban residents become the evolutional factors of updating the urban state spontaneously, which is more conducive to people to find the position of themselves in the city, forming a mutual humanistic care and cognition.

Its layout echoes with the other three blocks, while the corridor and the overhead channels parallel or oblique to it in the inner part, form a streamline relationship similar to the chemical reaction and energy flow inside the cells.

The concept of commercial and cultural area is the ability of fabric fiber to absorb in the diversified complicated public space state, and enhancing the commercial

vitality and cultural influence. The multi-layer corridor space, hydrophilic platform

and slope, dry sprinkling pool are used to simulate the state of various sections of the fabric fiber.

The surrounding public space extends the residence time of material flow and information flow in the plot.

Based on the concept of "cell wall / membrane" of the residential area, according

in Tianjin, the canal wetland waterfront forms two different traffic modes of wet

Public Space-Waterfront

According to the status of Tianjin as a shipping center and the characteristics of Yangliuqing town, which is close to the canal, water is used as a factor reflecting the flow of time is introduced into the shaping of the flow state of material and information in this design, thus, creates a variety of distinctive waterfront spaces.

Public Space-Overhead

The subway station is located in the center of the section, where the junction point of the axial cultural corridor serves as the platform for the station hall to enter the ground floor; the rolling display of information in the media center is located above the station hall, forming an eccentric position with the main body of the media center building. The sunken and uplifting step square below forms the corresponding relationship with the theme.

Travel Experience

The travel experience in the scheme is divided into two parts, namely, the central media hall and the overhead, sinking and waterfront public space connecting the four plots. The interdependent relationship between the density change of material and information and the open and compound change of public space is, at the transition point of public space modes, the density of material flow and information flow changes, while the change trend of open and compound alternates.

26

Time Scale

In order to emphasize the time scale relationship, the operation of subway lines can be observed from different angles in public space, showing the change of material flow with time; while the change of information flow with time will be shown with the working state of the media hall, supplemented by the news broadcast on the rolling screen. On the basis of every day's circular experience, the state that a larger time scale can show is also considered. For example, Tianjin has a temperate monsoon climate, so the traffic mode of the public space on the Monsoon Waterfront will change with the dry and wet season; and the botanical landscape sound insulation belt between the subway up and down routes under the pedestrian corridor also changes with the seasonal circulation.
