Last month the Happy Munkey team attended the “Stop Asian Hate protests” following the murder of 8 Asian men and women by a White terrorist. In the last year the Asian community has seen an astronomical rise in hate crimes as a result of anti-Asian propaganda related to the Covid-19 outbreak. Alongside community leaders like Kristin Jordan, Nadir Pearson, Amy Denesen, Elana Frankel, and Esther Kim, we marched down the city streets holding signs that read, “Stop Asian Hate” and demands for justice. The route began at Union Square and ended at the famous Columbus Park in Chinatown, where a second even larger protest was set to begin. What felt like thousands of people came out in support. While there is still so much work that needs to be done, It was beautiful and extremely powerful to see the city come together and support the Asian community.
