Attending this 35-hour comprehensive course will provide you with what you need to know to pass the Project Management Institute’s PMP® or CAPM® Certification Exam. At the conclusion of the course, you will be able to understand the concepts and vocabulary of project management from the perspective of the PMBOK® Guide - Fifth Edition. The course is taught by a PMI Registered Education Provider (PMI R.E.P.). The provider has been approved by PMI to issue professional development units (PDUs) for the course.
Certified Information Systems Security Professional
This PMP course has been approved for students to use their VA education benefits. Student’s VA education benefits will cover the cost of course fees. It will not cover the cost of material fees. CISSP Certification is an international standard designed to recognize the mastery of information security of a Common Body of Knowledge (CBK). This course both educates on and reviews the eight CISSP information systems security domains relevant to the professional certification exam. This certification is one of the requirements of the DoD 8570 directive. Prerequisites: Significant IT security experience is required and prior certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, MCSE or SCNP are recommended.

Mary brings three decades of project management experience to her interactive training sessions. She knows what it takes to successfully manage projects, and is skilled at sharing this knowledge. She specializes in preparing students to successfully sit for PMI professional credential exams.

He has taken numerous projects through the entire lifecycle process - including several large tasks for DoD, CMS, HHS, DOJ, SSA, INS, HCFA, US Military (Government Contracts), and numerous private organizations.

Mclasses will be moving in mid-December to Darlington Hall, 1st floor, College Entrance #2 for all Workforce Development BELCAMP B on Thomas Run Road. This move is temporary while Edgewood Hall receives a much needed renovation and 6,000 square CENTER C
I would like to let you know about some exciting changes that are coming to Continuing Education in 2016. First, registration feet of new open classroom and laboratory space. Edgewood Hall’s projected re-opening will be in 2017.

The Harford Community College/Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) partnership will offer apprenticeship training in the plumbing trade, giving construction workers a considerable advantage over those trained by informal means. ABC’s instructors are NCCER-certified and are professionals in their trade. They use the standardized NCCER (National Center for Construction Education and Research) curriculum that includes both classroom instruction and hands-on lab experience. Harford Community College has joined the Mid-Atlantic Transportation and Logistics Institute at Cecil College to offer CDL-A and CDL-B Commercial Truck Driver Training in both Harford and Cecil Counties. For a Class A license, students prepare to drive the Big Rigs. They attend a 300-hour program where a full 75% of the course is hands-on behind-the-wheel training. Students can attend a Monday–Friday daytime program for eight weeks or attend an evening/ weekend program for nine weeks. For the Class B license, students prepare to drive straight trucks such as beverage delivery, concrete mixers, dump trucks, and general delivery trucks. Students attend 160 hours of training with hands-on being approximately 75% of the course. Students can attend a Monday–Friday daytime program for four weeks or attend an evening/weekend program for seven weeks.

Using both classroom work and laboratory experience, students are given opportunity to troubleshoot, service and repair most large home appliances, such as refrigerators, air conditioning units, dishwashers, and washing machines. This certificate program includes courses specific to the kinds of tools needed and safety issues for a particular appliance. Students also learn about the theory and basics of refrigeration. Coursework often covers topics relating to the repair of:

CERTIFICATE Heavy Construction Equipment Operator Certificate NEW Construction equipment operators drive, maneuver, or control the heavy machinery used to construct roads, bridges, buildings, and other structures. Construction equipment operators use machinery to move construction materials, earth, and other heavy materials at construction sites and mines. They operate equipment that clears and grades land to prepare it for construction of roads, bridges, and buildings, as well as airport runways, power generation facilities, dams, levees, and other structures. Construction equipment operators work in nearly every weather condition. Workers often get dirty, greasy, muddy, or dusty. Most work full time, and some operators may have irregular hours. Some construction projects, especially road building, are done at night. Employment of construction equipment operators is projected to grow 19% from 2012 to 2022, faster than the average for all occupations. Spending on infrastructure should generate many new jobs for construction equipment operators. Workers who can operate multiple types of equipment should have the best job opportunities. The median annual wage for construction equipment operators was $40,980 in May 2012. Harford Community College will be using the NCCER curriculum on Heavy Equipment Operations.
Heavy Equipment Safety This course introduces the student to working around heavy equipment in a safe and responsible manner. The student will learn how to use personal protective equipment, set up barricades and barriers, and use flags and paddles to control traffic. This course also covers trenching and excavation safety precautions. Harford Community College will be using the NCCER curriculum on Heavy Equipment Operations. Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to do the following: explain the importance of safety when working with heavy equipment; state the purposes of signs, tags, barricades, and lockout/tagout devices used on construction sites; describe the long- and short-term health effects, firstaid measures, handling and storage, and/or required personal protective equipment (PPE) for a chemical using a material data safety sheet (MSDS); identify safeguards used in a highway construction work zone; state general guidelines for safe operation, maintenance, and transportation of heavy equipment; and explain the dangers of working around an excavation area with heavy equipment.
Identification of Heavy Equipment This course introduces the student to the most commonly used heavy equipment machines, including dump trucks, backhoes, excavators, and dozers. It also provides an overview of heavy equipment used in the mining industry. Coverage of drive systems and hydraulic systems is included. Upon completion of the course, the student should be able to identify the various types of heavy equipment and explain their primary uses, identify and explain the systems that make up the drive system used on heavy equipment, and explain the basics of a hydraulic system and identify hydraulic components.

H.O.T. (HIGH-DEMAND OCCUPATIONAL TRAINING) CERTIFICATE Solar Photovoltaic Installer This course uses a blended mix of instructor-led training and hands-on training. The students will learn solar-electric system design, installation, and safety procedures. Our hands-on solar trainer covers the common steps of a residential solar electric retrofit. The students will learn how to work with DC disconnects, inverters, AC disconnects, and load center/service panels to tie in with the utility. We will also demonstrate the connection of a live solar array feeding power into the grid.

Troubleshooting pest problems is a skill customers expect (and demand) from landscape professionals and public grounds managers. Weeds, diseases and insects are ready to attack weak turf and create an eyesore. Students learn valuable clues to effectively diagnose and treat insect, disease, and weed problems in turf. Introduction to Engineering Technology This course introduces students to the history, responsibilities, and career opportunities within the engineering technology field. Emphasis is placed on critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Also examined are the ethical standards that guide engineering practices.

This Maryland Board of Nursing (MBON) approved course prepares you to safely perform delegated nursing functions with clients of any age and various levels of physical, sensory, motor, and emotional ability. Those who successfully complete both the theory and the clinical components of the program are eligible to apply for certification with the MBON and to take the National Nurse Aide Assessment Program (NAAP) examination for certification as both a CNA & GNA.
Completing our EKG Technician program will prepare you for the National Certification as a Certified EKG Technician (CET). You will learn basic cardiac anatomy, patient preparation, arrhythmia identification, treatment modalities, and pharmacology.
This online program, accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS), meets the eligibility requirements for the American Society of Clinical Pathologist (ASCP) HT Registry Examination.

Paramedic Program
Physical Therapy Technician
Are you an EMT-B? Do you have what it takes to assess injuries, administer emergency medical care, extricate trapped individuals, and transport them to a hospital or trauma center? Complete this program and become eligible to seek certification as a Paramedic. This program prepares you to sit for the National Registry Exam. These classes progress as a cohort group.
Work directly under the supervision of Physical Therapists and Physical Therapy Assistants to help make therapy sessions more productive. As a member of the rehabilitation team, you will move patients to and from treatment areas; assist patients with their treatment plans and exercise programs; maintain a clean and organized work environment; perform routine clerical duties; order supplies; answer the phone; and fill out insurance forms and other paperwork. Students must be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma or GED. Physical requirements include the ability to observe the client’s activity both close up and at a distance of up to 30 feet away; sit/ stand in an upright position for approximately 6 hours a day; safely maneuver self or move another individual’s body parts; move objects in excess of 100 pounds; and lift and/or carry a minimum of 50 pounds without restriction.

Would you like to increase your effectiveness as an English language teacher? This certificate prepares instructors to teach English as a Second Language in academic, community, and workplace settings. Students learn current theories of second language learning, lesson planning, and instructional techniques through the completion of four online courses and a practicum. GED® TEST PREPARATION CLASSES If you are an adult 16 years of age or older who did not complete high school, GED® classes will help you to prepare to take the GED® examination and earn a Maryland high school diploma. Instruction will include review and practice of those skills necessary for passing the GED® exam.
LITERACY EDUCATION VOLUNTEER PROGRAM The Literacy Education Department offers volunteer opportunities in the classroom instructional program. Classroom volunteers assist instructors in Adult Basic Education (ABE) or in English as a Second Language (ESL) classes which are held at locations throughout Harford County. Classes meet two evenings or mornings a week for 2 1/2 hours per session. Day classes meet in the Aberdeen and Edgewood areas. Volunteers may choose to assist in one or two class sessions per week. No specialized training is necessary, but new volunteers are strongly encouraged to attend an orientation session that will be held prior to the start of the semester. Course fees are charged for GED® classes. Senior adult and disabled retiree course fee waivers apply. GED® classes may be eligible for VA benefits. Code of Conduct When enrolling in Harford Community College, students accept and agree to abide by the policies and regulations of HCC, including those in the Student Code of Conduct, the Drug and Alcohol Policy, and the Computer Use Policy. Students should understand that violation of these regulations will subject them to the penalties and sanctions contained in these policies. Copies of these policies are available in the Office of Student Activities, Student Center, Lower Level.
REGISTRATION/ PAYMENT INFORMATION
Refunds and Withdrawals If the College cancels a class, 100% of the course fees and material fees will be refunded by check. Allow approximately four weeks from the date of cancellation to receive the refund. If payment was made by credit card, call 443-412-2208 to request that the refund be posted to your credit card. To withdraw from a continuing education class, call 443-412-2376, ext. 5 or stop by the front desk in Darlington Hall to complete a withdrawal form. The withdrawal becomes effective the day you contact the office. Book returns must be accompanied by a copy of the withdrawal form. If you withdraw before the first class meeting, the College will refund 100% of the course fees and material fees. If you withdraw before the second class meeting, the College will refund 50% of the course fees but no material fees. There will be no refunds after the second class meeting, and no official withdrawal is necessary.
Senior Adult Course Fee Waiver Maryland residents 60 years of age or older at the time of registration are eligible for a course fee waiver for some continuing education courses. These courses are state-
funded and contain the icon u in the course description. If the course description contains this icon, senior adults do not pay course fee costs for the course. Material fees, however, must be paid in full. Please note that for all courses there is no out-of-county surcharge for senior adults.
Disabled Retiree Course Fee Waiver Any resident of the State of Maryland who is retired from the workplace by reason of total and permanent disability is eligible for a course fee waiver for some continuing education courses. These courses are statefunded and contain the icon u in the course description. If the course description contains this icon, disabled retirees do not pay course fees for the course. Material fees, however, must be paid in full. Please note that there is no out-of-county surcharge for disabled retired students. To receive the disabled retiree course fee waiver, the student must provide certification from the Social Security Administration, the Railroad Retirement Board, or the appropriate federal pension/retirement authority stating that the student receives both disability and retirement benefits [Annotated Code of Maryland section 16-106-c]. A form for signature by a representative of the Social Security Administration is available at the Continuing Education & Training Office in Darlington Hall. The waiver is valid for one school year, or the remainder of the school year, beginning each summer.
Disability Support Services Students with learning, physical, or psychiatric disabilities may contact Disability Support Services (DSS) to arrange for reasonable academic accommodations. Current documentation of the disability must be provided prior to arrangement of accommodations for prerequisite or exemption testing and for college courses. A minimum notice of 10 days may be needed to provide some accommodations. Additional services include academic advising and career services. Maryland National Guard Waiver Members of the Maryland National Guard are entitled to a waiver of 50% of course fee only for continuing education vocational-technical/ certification courses. Eligible students must
provide a letter from their commanding officer certifying that the member of the Maryland National Guard has at least 24 months remaining to serve or has agreed, in writing, to serve for a minimum of 24 months. The College’s out-of-county and out-of-state residency surcharge is waived for courses meeting eligibility for a Maryland National Guard waiver, but the student is responsible for all other material fees.
Maryland National Guard Dependents Dependent spouses and children of a member of the Maryland National Guard and Maryland Air Guard may request a course fee and material fee waiver when a Guard member is called to active duty for a minimum period of six continuous months of service. Eligibility for the waiver for a given semester will be determined by the military status of the Guard member as of the date of the start of a regular fall or spring semester or the start of the first summer session. Eligible students must provide a copy of the spouse’s/parent’s military orders to active duty, along with the dependent military identification card.

Course Cancellation Policy The College reserves the right to cancel any class when there is insufficient enrollment. If we must cancel a class, you will be notified by mail, telephone, or at the first class meeting. The College reserves the right to change or cancel individual courses, programs, schedules, and/or fees.
Continuing Education Transcripts Available The Continuing Education and Training Division offers official transcripts to students enrolled in many continuing education work-related training courses and other courses. (Course description will contain the icon ¥.) Transcripts provide a history of continuing education and training courses completed and indicate the name of the course, start and end dates, course hours, and number of continuing education units earned. A $5 fee for each transcript requested is due at the time of the request.
Tax Credits Tax credits may be available for some continuing education coursework. Consult your tax preparer for details.
Textbooks If the course description indicates that a text is required, you may purchase the textbook at HCC’s College Store (443-412-2209) in the Student Center, or online at bookstore.harford.edu.
EMERGENCY INFORMATION AND CLOSINGS
If the College announces it is CLOSING because of inclement weather or other circumstances, all classes—both on and off campus—will be canceled. This applies even when a particular off-campus center has not announced it is closing. Sometimes an off-campus center such as Harford County Public Schools announces a closing. In such cases, HCC classes scheduled at that location will be canceled even if the College does not announce it is closing. When in doubt regarding closings, call the HCC Emergency Information/Weather Closings number, 443-412-2322, or check the College’s web page at www.harford.edu.
HOLIDAYS
Classes at Harford Community College will not be held on the following dates: January 1-3, January 18, March 27-April 3, and May 30. Classes at Harford County Public School locations will not be held on the following dates: January 1-3, January 18, February 15, March 25, April 5, and May 30.
PARKING
Parking and Traffic Control Procedures In order to maintain an orderly flow of traffic, provide reasonable and convenient parking, and create a safe atmosphere for all persons at the College, the following guidelines apply to all students, employees, and visitors of Harford Community College. Certain parking
lots have been designated for persons with handicapped parking permits, employees, students, visitors, and College vehicles. For details, refer to “HCC Campus Parking, Traffic, and Related Regulations” available from the Human Resources Office. Public Safety issues tickets for traffic and parking violations. High speed driving, reckless driving, and failure to yield to pedestrians may result in revocation of operating privileges on campus in addition to a fine of $150. The maximum speed limit on campus is 15 MPH. Pedestrians have the right-of-way at all times.
Disabled Parking Disabled parking is clearly marked and is reserved for those displaying a valid State handicapped vehicle registration plate or permit, or a temporary HCC disabled permit. If no disabled parking is available, permit holders may park in any un-numbered employee space. Temporary HCC disabled permits are available in the Human Resources Office for HCC employees and in the Department of Public Safety for students and visitors. Requesters must submit a valid doctor’s note to obtain a temporary HCC disabled permit. The fine for illegally parking in a reserved disabled parking space is $150.
Towing State law allows for towing of vehicles from fire lanes without warning or notification. Fire lanes are clearly marked, and this law will be strictly enforced for the safety of the community.

Campus Crime Statistics
The Annual Security Report contains three consecutive years of campus crime statistics and information on how to help keep individuals and their property safe on campus. It is published and available annually by October 1. Escort Services Public Safety operates an escort service at all times. The Public Safety vehicle is well marked and operated by a uniformed security officer. Call ext. 2272 from any campus phone for this service. All persons are encouraged to use this service.
Sex Offender Registry The College prohibits the enrollment of individuals listed on the National or Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services Sex Offender Registry or registered with the Harford County Child Advocacy Unit. A list of registered sex offenders is available from Public Safety, 443-412-2272.
Weapons/ Violence Prohibitions All persons who enter any College property are prohibited from carrying a handgun, firearm, or weapon of any kind. Only persons affiliated with a law enforcement agency who are licensed to carry a weapon and have notified College officials are exempt from this prohibition. Any form of violence, threatening behavior, or verbal/nonverbal harassment that involves or affects Harford Community College or which occurs on the College campus, or its satellites, off-site facilities, or in any off-campus location that could be considered an extension of the workplace [i.e., official travel] is prohibited. This includes threatening behavior, violent actions, and harassment by/against or between/among students, employees, supervisors, and visitors.

It is the policy of Harford Community College that the College is a smoke- and tobacco-free environment. The use of any type of tobacco product, smoking device or equipment, or any item that simulates smoking (i.e. e-cigarettes) is prohibited on all areas of the College’s property, as well as off-campus sites supervised by the College. Violators of the tobacco policy are subject to a $50 fine and/or disciplinary action. Lifetime Learning Tax Credit The Lifetime Learning Tax Credit provides an annual credit of $1,000 for qualified tuition, fees and related expenses for, among other things, courses that develop or improve job skills. Consult a professional tax advisor for further information.
Interest-Free Monthly Payment Plan
Continuing Education students must have a minimum balance of $800. A minimum deposit of 25% is required when enrolling with FACTS, and students must have their total tuition and fees paid in full upon completion of the course(s) with a maximum of four installments. Applications are available at the registration desk in Darlington Hall and at the Cashier’s Office in the Student Center.

REGISTERING FOR CLASSES You may register for Continuing Education classes online, in person, by mail, or by fax. Please review the information below for specific instructions.
HOW TO REGISTER
Online
To register online, visit www.harford.edu/ resource/solar and click on the SOLAR link found at the bottom of the page for complete instructions on how to register and make payment. If you are a new HCC student, you must click on the “Continuing Education Noncredit Online Application” link in order to complete the online application process before registering. For questions about the online application process, registration, and/ or payment, call 443-412-2376, ext. 5. You may also visit your local Harford County Public Library for assistance with online registration. Please note there is no automatic drop for nonpayment of Continuing Education classes. You must contact the College if you wish to withdraw from a class.
In Person Students may register in person in Darlington Hall, Monday through Thursday, 7:30 AM to 7 PM; Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM; and Saturday, 9 AM to 12 PM. Payment by check, money order or credit card (Discover, MasterCard, American Express or VISA) is required at the time of registration. Cash cannot be accepted. For your convenience, a registration form has been provided near the end of this catalog.

REGISTRATION RESTRICTIONS
PAYMENT
1. Enrollment in Continuing Education courses is limited to those 16 and older, except for courses that specify they are open to those under 16. 2. Non-citizens must provide original documentation (most current resident card, work card, or visa) to register. Students must register in person at the Continuing Education Registration Office in Darlington Hall. Please note: Non-citizens who have never taken a credit or noncredit class at HCC must go to the Credit Registration Office in the Student Center the first time they register. 3. The College prohibits the enrollment of individuals listed on the National or Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services Sex Offender Registry or with the Harford County Child Advocacy Unit.
CURRENT MAILING ADDRESS
Students are responsible for maintaining a current mailing address with the College. All address changes should be reported to the Continuing Education and Training Office. If a student owes a debt to the College and does not maintain a current mailing address, that debt will be sent to a collection agency without further notice to the student. In this event, the student will owe an additional collection fee.
Payment for all Continuing Education courses is due at the time of registration. Failure to pay will incur a debt to the College that must be paid whether or not you attend the class. To avoid receiving a bill, please call 443-412-2376, ext. 5 before the class begins in order to process a drop.
RESIDENCY SURCHARGE
Out-of-county residents (except senior adults, disabled retired students, and students receiving a Maryland National Guard member tuition waiver) pay a $20 surcharge per course for each Continuing Education course that charges course fees. If you were an outof-county resident at the time of your last registration and have since moved in-county, you must complete a Student Statement of Domicile for Tuition Purposes form and provide two forms of identification in order to have the $20 surcharge waived when registering. You may obtain the form by calling 443-412-2376, ext. 5 or visiting the registration desk in Darlington Hall. Appropriate forms of identification include a driver’s license, voter registration card, or utility bill showing name and Harford County address. All out-of-state residents pay a $35 surcharge per course for all Continuing Education courses that charge course fees. Material fees, where applicable, are the same for all students.
HARFORD STUDENT ID
All students will be assigned a Harford student identification number. The H-ID begins with a capital H followed by eight randomly assigned digits. HCC will still need a Social Security number for certain mandated business functions; however, it will be used on a limited basis and kept in a secure environment. Because students will need to use the H-ID for College business transactions, students are required to know and remember their H-ID.

Harford Community College has partnered with the Susquehanna Workforce Network to offer a program in the Construction Trades. The Construction Trades Program assures a strong foundation for workforce success and entry into a variety of construction licensing and certification programs. In addition, apprenticeship is a strong possibility for those who meet the qualifications for the apprenticeship program. There is also an opportunity to transition into a credit program or permanent employment within one year.
