Nothing is the same, but we're making it the best we can. As of our press date of April 1, 2020, the College is operating in an online-only working and learning environment through May 16, at which time we will reevaluate. Although we are trying to move many noncredit classes online, it is not always possible. We have a lot of great classes planned for the summer and we hope to run as many of them as we can! Please visit harford.edu for updates. We have a link on our homepage that takes you to the most up-to-date information including class changes, registration and payment methods, and cancellations. There may even be some new additions for you to explore online, so be sure to check back often . Please know we are doing our best to keep everyone informed and we look forward to seeing you in class soon—whether online or on campus. Stay safe and be well.

COMMUNITY EDUCATION SUMMER 2020 MOTORCYCLE SAFETY
Basic Rider Course We provide the motorcycles for the beginning rider with little or no riding experience. Includes at-home e-course, classroom, and riding instruction. You must be able to ride a bicycle to participate in this course! You must provide driver’s license and valid email address at the time of registration. If a student is under 18 years of age, he/she must have a parent or legal guardian present at first class session to sign release waiver.
The following courses are approved by the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA). • Motorcycle Safety & Licensure (Basic Rider Course) • Alternate Basic Rider Course An online version of the Rider Handbook is available at: http://www.msf-usa.org/ downloads/BRCHandbook.pdf.
u CRN:
You must register for motorcycle safety training classes in-person, or by mail/fax and include a copy of your driver’s license. Please call 443.412.2177 for registration information. Although helmets (DOT certified), gloves, and eyewear are provided, for your best comfort and fit, you should consider bringing these items with you, if you have them, for the range part of the course. Classes will be held in the rain as long as conditions are safe; the decision will be made on site at the time. We break for hard rain, lightning, or other unsafe conditions. Student Stand-By Process at Harford Community College: If a class is closed because of maximum enrollment, students may choose to participate in the stand-by process. Sometimes a few pre-registered students do not show up for their course and their open spaces are available for stand-by students. To become a standby student, report to the class about 30 minutes prior to the scheduled starting time of the course and put your name in for a drawing. If space is available, the stand-bys will be randomly selected. You must pay for and attend the class at that time.

Continue exploring the world of To Kill a Mockingbird (1960) with Harper Lee’s recently discovered and published novel Go Set a Watchman (2015). Originally completed in 1957, and taking place 16 years after the events of Mockingbird as though a sequel, many scholars argue this is actually the first draft of that iconic novel for which Lee is now known. Join us as we watch Scout enter new levels of adulthood and independence in even more eye-opening ways than previously seen in Mockingbird. Readings will not be provided in class, so participants are encouraged to obtain a copy of the text prior to the first course date. CRN:

COMMUNITY EDUCATION SUMMER 2020 RELIGIOUS THOUGHT NEW! How Our World Began Every modern religious society has ideas about how life began. The great empires of the past had their beliefs and theories as well. With the age of enlightenment, these historical theories were turned upside down and new theories emerged. Study the creation story as we compare and contrast the various schools of thought about how the world began. The main emphasis will be to exam the western religion’s view of creation and compare these views to modern science.

COMPUTER TR AINING Certified Ethical Hacker To beat a hacker you have to think like one! Ethical hacking is the process of penetrating computers, networks, and applications that you have official authorization to access in order to determine if vulnerabilities exist. Once the vulnerabilities are discovered, what should be done to undertake preventative, corrective, and protective countermeasures before an actual compromise to the system takes place? This course will teach you how to look for weaknesses and vulnerabilities in target systems. You will use the same knowledge and tools as a malicious hacker, but in a lawful and legitimate manner to assess the security of a target system. Students will complete the exam in class.

Heavy Equipment Operators drive, maneuver, or control the heavy machinery used to construct roads, bridges, buildings and other structures. There’s a lot more that goes along with being a Heavy Equipment Operator than running the controls. Great operators know how to read construction stakes, how to calculate cut and fill for grading, and understand how to control surface and ground water on a job site. Having these skills will make you a valuable part of a construction team. Employment of construction equipment operators is projected to grow 10% until 2024. Spending on infrastructure should generate many new jobs for construction equipment operators. The average earnings in Maryland for 2015 were $22.67 per hour or about $47,160 per year. Harford Community College will be using the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) curriculum on Heavy Equipment Operations. Required Courses • Introduction to Heavy Equipment Operations (Must take prior to any other HEO courses.) • Heavy Equipment Operator – Site Work and Grading • Heavy Equipment Operator – Enhanced Site Work & Soils • Excavation Math & Interpreting Civil Drawings

Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV)/Drone Technology Drones, also known as Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (sUASs), and Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA), are gaining in popularity! The regulations are constantly changing, opening up opportunities for potential uses and occupations. Some of the industries that are benefiting from the use of drones are agriculture, meteorology, aerial photography, search and rescue, construction and even sports. The FAA has predicted that annual sales of these units will be about $7 million in 2020 and it is estimated that over 2500 jobs will be created in the State of Maryland by 2025. The Drone Technology Certificate from Harford Community College will help you learn about these versatile vehicles, understand the constantly changing regulations, and how to fly both small and large professional-use drones. The courses will contain information on how to pass the test to obtain FAA’s Part 107 Certificate as well as provide several hours of simulator training and hands-on flight training using professional drones. This Part 107 certificate is MANDATORY if you desire to fly professionally.
