Each year, Harford Community College hosts a variety of cultural opportunities from national touring acts to local resident companies, jazz to classical to folk, magic to ballet to musical comedy. With the recent opening of the APG Federal Credit Union Arena, we have the opportunity to bring a series of quality concerts and special events that offer our residents a wide variety of artistic opportunities that are often only available in more urban areas. From month to month and year to year, you never know who will be gracing our stages, but you can be sure they will create an unforgettable memory. Check the various listings to select all of your favorites, but remember many shows sell out fast. Straight from PBS Kids and The Jim Henson Company, Dinosaur Train Live! is pulling into the Amoss Center! Join Buddy and his friends and family in this upbeat, interactive trip featuring an original story line, all new music, and a cast of life-sized puppets from Jim Henson. Led by the Conductor and a “live” human Paleontologist guide, audiences will travel in this real-life Dinosaur Train to the Mesozoic to learn about life science, natural history, and paleontology. DOG SEES GOD HCC Actors Guild By Bert V. Royal Directed by Tim Torre When CB’s dog dies from rabies, CB begins to question the existence of an afterlife. His best friend is too burnt out to provide any coherent speculation, his sister has gone goth, his exgirlfriend has been institutionalized, and his other friends are too inebriated to give him any sort of solace. Drug use, suicide, eating disorders, teen violence, rebellion, and sexual identity collide and careen toward an ending that’s both haunting and hopeful. If you’re saxophonist T.K. Blue, you turn to the soft(er) and the subtle, delivering an album that’s texturally rich yet wholly transparent. Blue’s brand of music is honest, sincere, graceful and direct; that same adjective set, not surprisingly, also applies to the man himself. Harford Dance Theatre, the same company that produces Harriet’s Happiest Halloween, brings this childhood favorite from page to stage in a magical adaptation of Carlo Collodi’s Pinocchio. Born from a talking piece of wood carved by Geppeto, the little wooden puppet encounters mischief around every turn as he meets up with shady characters like a sly fox, a mischievous cat, rockin’ jail birds, tap dancing monkeys, and all sorts of bad boys. Ultimately, Pinocchio learns that only by being truthful, selfless, and kind to others can he realize his dream of becoming a real boy. Explore accounts that have been handed down of freedom seekers who made their way through the Upper Chesapeake region prior to the Civil War, and the continuing impact of those accounts on families living here today.
Learn why Dr. Allen (author of Rethinking Uncle Tom: The Political Philosophy of Harriet Beecher Stowe) describes the fictional character Uncle Tom as an exemplar of human freedom, and discuss his account of the political thought underlying Stowe’s work.
Gather with us on the banks of the Susquehanna River as local spiritual and cultural leaders honor our ancestors by planting a tree in their memory, pouring libations and acclaiming the lifework of freedom seekers, abolitionists, and others who struggled to free themselves, others and our country from slavery. Spirituals and freedom songs will set the atmosphere.

Read and discuss W.E.B. DuBois’ classic work in the literature of black protest, in which DuBois insists on the fundamental dignity of human beings at a time when America was reconstructing and redefining itself in the wake of the Civil War.
Learn about the documented stories of those who sought or fought for freedom in the Upper Chesapeake, elsewhere in Maryland, and nationally. Among the lives whose stories engage and inspire, and will be included in the exhibit, are Joseph and Ann Hall, Sam Archer, Harriet Cole Baker, Margaret Morgan, Elisha Tyson, Freeborn Garrettson, and William Still.
