21st MSC Malaysia APICTA Awards: Best of the Best Ideas Developed by Home-grown Players

The MSC Malaysia Asia Pacific ICT Awards (MSC Malaysia APICTA) recently celebrated 27 winners and merit recipients at the 21st MSC Malaysia APICTA 2020 Awards, hosted virtually by PIKOM, the National Tech Association of Malaysia.

The MSC Malaysia APICTA provides recognition to outstanding achievements of individuals, students, entrepreneurs, SMEs and organisations with operations in Malaysia who have contributed to the development of the MSC Malaysia initiatives or in building applications and services for the benefit of Malaysia. It recognises creativity, innovation, and excellence in Malaysian ICT.

This annual Awards programme also provides an opportunity and an ideal environment for individuals and companies to gain local, regional and international exposure through on-going promotional activities, and through participation at the international Asia Pacific ICT Alliance Awards (APICTA).

PIKOM Chairman Danny Lee said, “With 21 years of track record, this

This is the first time that everything was done online – from submission of entries, judging process, final presentation pitch and the awards ceremony itself. A total of 104 entries were submitted last year under 14 categories with 38 judges from across all sectors, including the academia, industry and corporate.

Among the big winners were Agmo Studio Sdn Bhd for “Vote2U” under the Inclusion & Community Services, Hartalega NGC Sdn Bhd for the “Digital Transformation Journey Towards IR 4.0” under the Industrial Category, OrangeFIN Asia for “Orange Workforce – A Self-Sustainable Robotics Process

The Chairman of MSC Malaysia APICTA, Stan Singh stated that despite the current position contributed by the pandemic, the show did not stop. “We moved on to do it virtually from the start to the Awards ceremony. The judges volunteered and took time off to be engaged and for making it happen.”

Stan Singh was assisted by the Deputy Chairman Anthony Raja Devadoss and the PIKOM Secretariat in organising the awards.

Malaysia has also adopted the entire judging and compliance framework that was based on the proven APICTA International Judging System. Stan Singh is the Chairman

of APICTA International which consists of 16 economies, including China and Japan. This is to enable participants become familiar with the judging criteria, scoring system and requirements.

“Entries from the MSC Malaysia APICTA who qualify and fulfil all criteria would know what is required of them to compete in APICTA International with 16 other countries in the finals,” Stan continued.

All Winners of the MSC Malaysia APICTA 2020 will move to compete at the International APICTA event and ceremony which will be announced later this year.

MSC Malaysia APICTA was jointly organised with Malaysia Digital Economy Development. Malaysia won the bid to host APICTA International 2020 in Kuala Lumpur but due to the pandemic lockdowns across the economies, this event was postponed and now pushed to 2021. PIKOM is hopeful for Malaysia to still be able to host APICTA International.
